A Hogwarts Yule Ball Roleplay

A soft golden glow illuminates the ballroom entrance. Festive music trickles melodically from somewhere afar. The ceiling has been enchanted to reflect the starry night sky with a full moon glimmering as if one could reach out and touch it.

You peek through the glass doors and see witches and wizards, dressed in their finest, standing to the sides expectantly. Waiting, you think, to catch their nerves and to let the music and moment overcome their inhibitions.

The finery is exquisite. Some attendees even sport filigree masks that cover their visages partially or fully. Students from Hogwarts mix with students from the Mahoutokoro School of Magic and the Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Sigh. A beautiful couple begin to dance; one slender form moving gracefully as a swan and the other a perfect companion to every step. A few others join the dance, while others get drinks or hors devours and mingle.

You stand at the threshold....

~ Meanwhile ~

Students attending the ball frolicked innocently or mischievously or nervously but beyond the glow of their naivety there were ominous clouds rolling towards them with full speed.

A man and a woman wearing dark robes, spied upon the festively decorated castle from the Forbidden Forest.

The man and woman found a sleeping tree fairy from a snow covered tree. The man held it between his fingers, and quickly plucked its wings and collected them in a vial.

The mewling tree fairy was jolted out of its slumber. The woman pulled her skull mask off her face and looked at the tree fairy before incinerating it in blue flame.

"We need human blood as well," said the man in a low growl.

"It's a ball," the woman said, "bound to have someone come out here. For one reason or another."

The taller, broad man took out his wand and smirked. "We can help things along, I bet."

Welcome to A Hogwarts Yule Ball Roleplay

Hello. This roleplay is set in the mysterious and wonderous world created by J.K. Rowling. Specifically at a Yule Ball in contemporary times so far into the future from where the books left us. It's inspired by a love of the world of Hogwarts itself, of balls and dances with intrigue and surprises, and a bit of mayhem and possibly murder.

The roleyplay officially will open IC on December 24, 2018 at 5PM EST...

Rules

1. Enjoy developing an original character for the RP. Your character may be a student, or a professor, from any of the schools mentioned in the OP. For purposes of avoiding weirdness characters should be age 16 or above. No great grandchildren of the Potters etc. though, thanks.

2. Do not godmode, metagame, or take any unilateral actions against another player. if in doubt, ask first.

3. Be familiar with the site rules which apply here. Particularly:

Offensive Material: As mentioned previously, we use the US movie rating "PG-13" standard. Mild swearing may be tolerated, mild sexuality may be hinted, but explicit or excessive versions of either or both will result in moderation intervention.

4. Post quality - each post should be about a paragraph long at minimum. Dialogue, description, action all round out posts nicely. As do images (although images shouldn't stand in for content but augment it).

5. Post quantity - characters who don't appear at regular intervals are sometimes taken to the bottom of the Great Lake by the merpeople. We thank the merpeople for their services to the castle.

6. Tone - you may choose to just obliviously enjoy a perfectly lovely, antgsy or melodramatic Yule ball. You may find yourself embroiled in a thwarted murder, ritual sacrifice, and other unsavory shenanigans. “It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

7. Camaraderie - Isn't it lovely when players all get along together (OOC) and build this harmonious melody of posts that create a magical evening? Let's keep our mischief managed.

At the age of 12, Khongtaghar attended Mahoutokoro to study magic. He graduated 8 years later. After the graduation, he began teaching the history of magic at the school.

Character Biography: Dubious rumors about who exactly fathered Trevor, or even if that was his actual given name, is quickly overshadowed by his surprisingly “No-Maj’d” childhood. He was adopted by a husband and wife duo of teachers, often responsible for keeping an eye out for magical children. Growing up, the young boy knew about Magic, and practiced it often enough, but was drilled in the art of “do it yourself” ingenuity that would be otherwise absent from the hidden world of Magic. As such, he was able to use his hands for some incantations (as wands were forbidden off-campus in Ilvermorny) in case he found himself in a bit of a bind. He became good friends with Lucien, and the two often swapped homework (Lucien was adept at handling magical creatures, while Trevor became rather adept in the art of potion-work and D.A.D.A.)

Like many here, he wishes to leave behind the business, especially his ever growing opinions that the Statute of Secrecy was not only outdated, but counterproductive. Ironically enough, he doesn’t see purity of blood as a non-issue, his philosophy being “if you have something, work with it”. If No-Majs can be taught to keep an eye out for magical beings and creatures, than surely a Pureblood could learn the finer points of a computer. But for now, he wants to shake off the stress of school and dance in the new years.

For tidbit’s sake, his wand is that of Ebony, ten inches, with a Snakewood and Coral core.
Despite residing in Boston for a good many years, Trevor is a Missouri-man by heart.

Character Biography: Julius Howler is an single child coming from an quite wealthy family. With his father being an businessman and his mother being an owner of an broom company. Which often end up making Julius spending most of his childhood alone, atleast until he met his childhood friend a red head named Emily Magn. Ever since they met, people around them would consinder them inseparable. When the other one was down, the other one was there to help them up. If one was lonely the other one would be right there next to them. While there where some that wondered why they are not in relationship, most wonder why they even are friends. With two quite diffrent personalities. Julius being calm, sly, witty, ambitious and competetive. While Emily is laidback, honest, complacent, kind and patient. Even so they still have very little arguments, both even have several similare views.
However when both got to hogwarts they ended up in diffrent houses. With Emily in Hufflepuff. And so Julius must find new friends in his house, which ended up being difficult. Julius did however find a friend in a person that shared his intrests in potions, chess and dueling. Named Jean Whitby. When they can Emily and Julius meet up either to simply talk, or too play chess. Something which is manly Julius that wants to do.

Julius dreams to become professor in defense against dark arts. He hoped that during the dance that at the very least get to dance with one girl.

Like many here, he wishes to leave behind the business, especially his ever growing opinions that the Statute of Secrecy was not only outdated, but counterproductive. Ironically enough, he doesn’t see purity of blood as a non-issue, his philosophy being “if you have something, work with it”. If No-Majs can be taught to keep an eye out for magical beings and creatures, than surely a Pureblood could learn the finer points of a computer. But for now, he wants to shake off the stress of school and dance in the new years.

For tidbit’s sake, his wand is that of Ebony, ten inches, with a Snakewood and Coral core.
Despite residing in Boston for a good many years, Trevor is a Missouri-man by heart.

Which often end up making Julius spending most of his childhood alone, atleast until he met his childhood friend a red head named Emily Magn. Ever since they met, people around them would consinder them inseparable. When the other one was down, the other one was there to help them up. If one was lonely the other one would be right there next to them. While there where some that wondered why they are not in relationship, most wonder why they even are friends. With two quite diffrent personalities. Julius being calm, sly, witty, ambitious and competetive. While Emily is laidback, honest, complacent, kind and patient. Even so they still have very little arguments, both even have several similare views.
However when both got to hogwarts they ended up in diffrent houses. With Emily in Hufflepuff. And so Julius must find new friends in his house, which ended up being difficult. Julius did however find a friend in a person that shared his intrests in potions, chess and dueling. Named Jean Whitby. When they can Emily and Julius meet up either to simply talk, or too play chess. Something which is manly Julius that wants to do.

Julius dreams to become professor in defense against dark arts. He hoped that during the dance that at the very least get to dance with one girl.

Networking at a ball, what a Slytherin. The disgust at Gryffindor is appreciated too #Slytherin. I enjoyed the characterization in this post, definitely the best in the entire thread. Cormac is a character that is distinctly himself but also fits into the world of Harry Potter, this is a post that could be recognized as Harry Potter even if it was standalone. I enjoyed the networking angle and sticking to that angle, especially with the ending of the post.

The entries from Danceria demonstrate nice color and well-done character interaction, blending well with the scene and adding to it.

Raionitu's entries present enjoyable characters that pull the reader into their lives.

Cormac's main character, clearly autobiographical, is nonetheless both dashing and intriguing. His well-written contribution adds elegance to the scene.
