Government Explaination: Elections take place on a regular basis, but only involve officially licensed political parties and movements that can participate. A unicameral National Convention is elected by universal suffrage. The executive branch is led by the Supreme Political Council, whose members are elected from amongst the National Convention, and which is headed by the President. Rodolphe Lucien Desdunes, a Creole of Colour born to a Haitian father and Cuban mother, formerly active as historian, journalist poet and police officer.
Relations: The Republic of Louisiana has excellent relations with the Commonwealth of the English Americas, which it considers a fellow republican and enlightened system despite minor differences and overlapping claims in the Midwest territories.
Louisiana furthermore has cordial ties to Alta California and New France, maintaining prosperous commercial ties with both, and warm relations with Mexico.
Despite being a breakaway former colony of France that originally declared independence due to a combination of slave revolts and and influx of Republican and anti-Orléanist revolutionaries, relationships with the Kingdom of France have known a significant boost in recent decades due to the far-reaching democratisation of the French government.
The German Republic is another venue for closer cooperation in the future that the Louisianan government is looking into developing.

Administrative Division(s): Illinois Country (Pays des Illinois), Lower Louisiana (Basse-Louisiane)

State Religion: Catholicism
Other Religion(s): African animism, Muskogean tribal religions, Protestantism
Ethnicity: French Creole (including descandants of French colonists and of mixed European-African relations), Cajun (Acadian), Senegambian (descendants of African slaves), Muskogean (Native), Métis (mixed European-Native), Isleño (descendants of Canary Islands immigrants)

Main/Accepted Culture(s): Creole, Cajun, Senegambian, Muskogean
Other Culture(s): Métis, Isleños

Type of Economy: Agricultural and commercial, centrally guided
Economy Explanation: Louisianan economy is mainly based on plantation agriculture, fur trapping and naval commerce, with the port city of Nouvelle-Orléans being the main commercial hub. The sparsely populated northern areas along the Mississippi river are used mainly by coureurs des bois fur trappers and local traders who conduct commerce with the Native tribes in the area, but is also used for agricultural production of wheat, corn, hemp, flax and grapes, as well as having some production of salt, lead and timber.
Lower Louisiana is the much more densely populated and prosperous area, home to a more sedentary lifestyle, where large-scale tobacco, indigo and rice plantations abound.
Naval trade with other European colonies in the Caribbean, as well as in North and South America, is of supreme importance to Lousiana, and is conducted mainly through the port cities of Nouvelle-Orléans and Baton Rouge.

Important Resources: Tobacco, indigo, rice, fur, wine

Military Explanation: The Army of Louisiana is consists of a relatively small professional force of around 90,000 soldiers, reinforced by conscription., as each Louisianan male is expected to serve a year in armed service to the Republic. The main role of the Army is the protection and defence of Louisiana's border and the patroling and pacification of the Tribal Areas (Zones Tribales).
Since Louisiana has known very little in the way of conflict in recent decades, and the coexistance with the Muskogean tribes is generally cordial to friendly, the Armed Forces are not the most advanced ones in the Americas. Lousianan military doctrine focuses on defensive warfare and irregular tactics borrowed from the Muskogean tribes.

Military Branches:
Army: The majority of Louisianan troops serve in the light infantry units, named the chasseurs. They are equipped with rifles and dress in either blue or green uniforms, as is showcades below.
https://i.pinimg.com/736x/13/c6/08/13c6 ... 05eea7.jpg

The other main part of the Army is the cavalry, which is of supreme importance to Louisianan internal security due to its vast size, especially in Illinois Country. The Louisiana Cavalry is based on the French Hussars, but has been equipped with modern rifles and revolvers alongside their cavalry sabre.

Navy: The Marine de Louisiane is quite extensive, as it is of the utmost importance for the protection of naval trade and commerce, as well as the protection of the city of Nouvelle-Orléans. The Louisianan navy counts 15 battleships, of which three are of the dreadnought class, as well as 12 cruisers, 23 destroyers and 1 submarine. The Navy is tasked with the protection of the coastline and the defence of civilian shipping to the West Indies, the Commonwealth, South America and Europe.
Air Force: The Armée de l'Air de Louisiane is a very recent addition to the Armed Forces, although interest in aerial reconnaissance and combat has been peaked due to the usefulness of it in the thinly-populated hinterland of Louisiana. At the moment, the Armée de l'Air counts three Blériot XI aircraft purchased from France, as well as a dozen hot air balloons and two Astra-Torres airships.
Other Military Branch(es): /

Goals: Maintain a stable economic powerhouse and an example of Republican rule.
Domestic Issues: Race relations; coexistance with tribal Natives in the northern territories; modernisation of the economy
Foreign Issues: The Northwest Trust Territory, which at the moment is claimed by Louisiana as part of Greater Illinois Country but its at present controlled by the Commonwealth; relations with France and with neighbouring countries.
National Figure(s): /

History:

Louisiana was founded as a French colony in 1682 by famous French explorer Cavelier de La Salle, following discoveries by explorers such as Pierre-Esprit Radisson, Médard Chouart des Groseilliers, Louis Jolliet and Jacques Marquette.
Originally part of New France, and encompassing the entire area of the drainage basin of the Mississippi River and stretcing from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico and from the Appalachian Mountains to the Rocky Mountains, the massive plot of land basically covered most of the American territory in between the British colonies on the East Coast and the Spanish territories in the West.

While massive in size, most of the area never saw more than a token French presence in the land, leaving the majority of Native tribes mostly unbothered by the official incorporation into the French colonial empire. Upper Louisiana, also named Illinois Country after the Algonquin tribes that lived there was especially thinly populated by French settlers, usually limited to coureurs des bois explorers, trappers and fur traders who established profitable commercial ties to the Native population.

Lower Lousiana, by contrast, steadily grew in size and importance, although significant French settlements remained almost exclusively limited to the coastline. In time, flourishing commercial seaports such as Nouvelle-Orléans, founded in 1718, and Baton Rouge became established names in the Gulf of Mexico, trading with Spanish and French colonial possessions in the West Indies. Starting in 1719, African slaves started to be imported into Lower Louisiana in order to provide labour force for the growing plantation economy. In a few decades time, the Black population of Louisiana would outnumber the French settlers and their descendants.

In time, Lower Louisiana became a wealthy colony, be it still relatively small in number of European settlers. Plantations growing tobacco, indigo and rice became part and parcel of the colonial economy. In 1755, a significant influx of French-speaking refugees and immigrants from the former French colony of Acadia took place, laying the basis of what would later become Louisiana's Cajun community.

Over time, the descendants of French settlers started developing a distinct Louisianan culture and self-awareness, different from the French mainland. The Louisiana-born Europeans started calling themselves Creoles, referring to their seperate status as a people.

Over time, however, the quite lenient (for a slave state) laws regarding slavery, racial relations and miscegenation led to an ever increasing amount of mixed-race relations, children and even marriage to freed slaves. The mulatto population of Louisiana eventually became sufficiently large and influential that the term Creole started to be applied to them as well. This has led to the Creole status losing much of its original racial content, being applied to all Louisiana-born inhabitants that are not of African or Muskogean blood.

By 1830, over 70% of Louisiana was estimated to be of either African or mixed-race descent, and at least 30% of Africans were freemen, a very large percentage for the time. Senegambian freemen started playing an important role in growing crops and operating as independent farmers, especially in Lower Louisiana.

Starting in the 1780s, Louisiana became a haven for exiled and refugee revolutionary thinkers, philosophers and intellectuals, as well as banished opposition figured who were forced to Louisiana by the Bourbon monarchy.

When in 1830 the July Revolution broke out in France, many Creoles enthusiastically supported the new revolutionary wind that was blowing through the colonial homeland, hoping for more liberal and progressive change for the colony.

However, soon after Louis-Philippe d'Orléans took over as King of the French, the hopes of the Louisianans were dashed when France strengthened its grip on the colony, and it became clear that far-reaching democratisation was not on the new king's agenda.

After the failed Republican uprising of 1832, thousands of Republicans, revolutionaries and Jacobins moved to the colonies, many of them settling in Nouvelle-Orléans, bringing their radical ideas with them. In a plantation colony already brewing with growing Creole discontent and looming threats of slave revolt, this proved an explosive mix.

In 1834, mass demonstrations by Republican agitators and the poor masses of Nouvelle-Orléans were violently suppressed by French royal forces, leading to growing discontent. On the countryside, slave revolts became more and more frequent, with hundreds of runaway slaves forming maroon communities in the bayou.

Eventually, on July 14 of 1835, a combined force of Creoles, exiled French revolutionaries and Maroon guerilla figters successfully besieged and captured Nouvelle-Orléans. The very same day, the Republic of Louisiana was proclaimed.
