My magic slowly changes the body of the practitioner, so it could cause issues with channeling other magicks the farther you get.

Don’t worry, many see magick as a weapon, but in reality its the best economic device, just look at G and his rune of preservation.

Fair enough, you don’t have crazy about the bear thing. Perhaps the ears allow them to be more acute, and sense things from far away. Would be good in war, so they know where hidden troops are.
