I'm considering a few concepts but one i might try if allowed is possibly a remnant of the old magic, i.e someone that still uses it strongly and it is quite clear from appearance. Her motivation is something i'll decide on later.

Old magic is something players can't use sadly. Most forms of modern magic comes from either using a Vim devices, channeling Vim energy, or gaining it from a mutation or augment. Finding a true remnant of old magic would be like finding the Holy Grail or the Philosopher Stone in this world. However they are still people who are still devoted to it still existing in this world, some to the point that it becomes almost like a religion to them. A rather fitting turn of events as it's tragic fate was tied the departure of the gods and the gateways to the spirit realms closing.

Modern magic as replicated a good deal of what old magic use to do (but with the usual claims that old magic was far more potent in powers and capabilities) but many hope that one day modern magic will fully replicate everything old magic use to do. However branches of modern magic that deals with spirits and the spirit realm is said to be the closet that modern magic has come to mimicking old magic. It's the one of the reasons why necromancy and demon summoning isn't entirely illegal world over, most placed heavily regulate and/or restrict them with a few banning the two for moral and religious reasons.

And I went on a tagnet. I might make my next post describing more about Vim sense it will help everyone if they knew more about it.

Vim is by definition on the world of Numina a naturally occurring magical resource that possesses a variety of uses such as energy propellant, manufacturing, and infusions. Vim has found it's way into every facet of modern society, with technology and sorcery being the most known examples. Yet even with the century use and study of Vim it's origins still alludes even the brightest minds of the day.

Some believe that Vim is the remaining life and spiritual force of past inhabitants of the world, others believe it is the remains of the old magic. Regardless of which theories is correct what is known is that for Vim to form it most come from something else. While most prefer to use Vim by using technological devices and weapons more archaic forms of Vim manipulation is used by others; from weaving Vim into clothing, applying Vim based ink on to one's flesh, or even infusing Vim into one's body (most often by potions but pills and powders also exist). These methods bare striking similarity to how certain individuals would utilize the arcane energies of old magic Channeling Vim energy in ritualistic actions to mimic old magic is yet another archaic and popular form of Vim manipulation and in modern times is treated as a fom of science.

Vim comes in five naturally occurring forms with each possessing their own unique properties and abilities. Yet the different forms of Vim can be combined to produce new effects they would not be able to do on their own and can naturally and artificially merge together to form new fonts of Vim with new abilities and properties.

These are the five natural forms of Vim.

Vuk: Vuk is one of the most common forms of Vim. Found in areas of dense vegetation and rich in minerals it is fame for its strength, resilience, vigor, and vitality. Appearing in forms such as stones, crystals, plants, fungi, and even patches of soil or even metal ores, Vuk is green in color which makes both easy and difficult to tell it apart from its environment. Vuk is primarily used in metallurgy as it makes both weapons and armor much stronger than usual (some armors and melee weapons being able to resist bullets from all but the most recent firearms). Vuk is also used in fertilization, preservation, pesticide, cosmetics, creating artificial dyes, concrete making, fertility treatment and birth control.

Vuk is used on the revolutionary but controversial field of chaemerics, a field in which one manipulate the strands of life within a being to create mutations in a being, graft new body parts with special powers, or even create new life. The new science of chaemerics even improves the operation and connection between organic muscle control and nerve connevtiins to mechanical limbs and implants, it even lessen rejection to a degree. When used with Virl it assists with medical treatments and drugs and when mixed with Vis the two lead to the development of skyscrapers. Vuk has even been known to produce physical enhancing drugs and potions that recently have caused controversy in their use during sporting events.

Virl: Virl was interestingly the third form of Vim discovered, an oddity due to most civilizations being close to large bodies of water. Virl is found in bodies of water; from rivers, lakes, to even the shores by the beach. Virl has even be found under the sea and in large ponds and streams and even in swamps (a location in which one can find Virl with Vuk). Virl has been known to take on the form of blue liquids, often in small ponds and puddles, gel-like crystals and spheres, powder, and has even been found to easily infuse in wildlife. Virl is known for its flexibility and malleability, making a jack of all trade sort of Vim.

Some use of Virl include in the use of water sanitation and purification, pummeling and sewage, a form of water communication, used in the engines, propellers, and paddle wheels of ships, refrigeration (when assisted with Vis), air conditioning (once more with the assistance of Vis), controlling aquatic life (a rather archaic form of Virl used in rural communities). The most famous application of Virl is the utilization of medical infusions to promote good health and increase longevity in people. These medical infusions have even been used to calm the minds of those stressed or afflicted with madness.

Virl is the one form of Vim that is the most easy to infuse with wildlife, often a good indication of one being close to deposits of Virl is to find mutated wildlife.

Vis: The second rarest form of Vim, due in part to the location where it is found and it's very nature. Vis is found on mountainous terrains and in canyons. Appearing as clouds, gases, dust, powder, glass like structures, almost clearish liquids. White with hints of yellow in color it is known for it's airy and ephemeral nature, being incredibly fragile when in solid form.

Vis most famous applications is being a vital component in the construction of airships and airplanes and when combined with Vuk in the construction of skyscraper. Vis property of altering the mass of an object means that with Vuk body armor can be worn to grant the wearer increased protection without sacrificing mobility too much. Vis when combined with Virl and Vash can be used for ventilation systems (Virl for cold and Vash for heat), Vis is used in the assistance of sound based devices like the gramophone and is a vital component in telegraphs. Vis is used in air storage and purification, playing a role in the railway, pneumatic tubes and vacuum tubes, wind generation and manipulation.

Some people inspired by stories of old have used Vis to make real life flying carpets and while it works this methods like the protection offer by both airships and airplanes, meaning of one isn't killed or had fallen off by strong gusts of wind will be covered in the guts of insects you flew directly at.

Vash: The second most common form of Vim and the first whose properties and abilities was used, albeit after years of failure. Vash is a volatile form of Vim with misuse resulting in explosive reactions. Vash is found in deserts and volcanic regions. Taking on the form of orbs and mists of plasma, electrical sparks, burning ashes, rocks, heated crystals and burning fluids and powders, and melted metal ores and rock. Red in coloration Vash is the most difficult form of Vim to work with but when used delivers great benefits.

It was first used in blast furnaces, it was when Vash was used that Vuk finally became usable in being smelt and refined. Vash would later play a vital role in kicking off the industrial revolution as it was used in the many steam engines that now exists in the world and be used to make electricity and magnetism possible, though Vash powered gas lamps can still be found in most cities and towns. Vash also changed the nature of warfare when its violate nature was used to create gunpowder for firearms, explosives, and flamethrowers and acids. Of those who use Vim tattoos those using Vash ink is common due to the powers it grants them.

Interestingly Vash is used by some artists to give them more energy to stay up longer and even increase their passion to create great works of art, yet overuse of Vash infusions has resulted in these artists both figuratively and quite literally burning out. Athletics and soldiers also use Vash along with other forms of Vim infusions and implants to increase their performance but like the artists they too risk burning out.

Vali: The rarest form of Vim and was once thought to be nothing more but a myth. Appearing in crystalline forms, energy mists, orbs of energy, fluids, and other more unusual forms. The exact location of Vali is unknown to the general public but many suspect it is found in subterranean terrain and in locations where the divide between the material world and spiritual realms are at the most thinnest, some even believe Vali comes from the heavens themselves. Black and purple in color the exact properties of Vali are not as well understood to most as some capabilities seem to be more of rumors than fact, yet one rumor that seems to be true is Vali causing insanity to some individuals.

Some of Vali's prepelixing capabilities include necromancy, Vali has been noted to conjure spirits of the dead and reanimate corpses. This property is used in some medical institutions to bring back the recently deceased, a revolutionary but deeply expensive process. Other properties include ut seemingly possessing psionic powers as those who use it gain psychic powers or it giving them prophetic visions. Vali even manipulates different forms of energy but seems to lend towards electricity as a default. Vali has been known to grant people the ability to use magic, strength or lessen magic, or even nullify magic in a area. Locations with high concentration of Vali can make spirits visible to the naked eye and rumors persist on it creating gateways to the spirit realms.

Rumors of Vali being able to manipulate spacetime have neither produced evidence of it being possible nor evidence to suggest it can't. Those who believe that Vimmis the residual remains of old magic believe Vim is the one form of Vim closely linked to Old Magic, that the others are forms of Vim arose when Vali became heavily influenced by the environment it was on.

-Enhanced capabilities: The vash that had been infused into her body allows for better performance overall.

-Dimensional instability: Due to Catherine's awoken powers combined with modern forms of magic, the area around her is generally unstable and could collapse at any moment. She uses this to her advantage in combat by collapsing herself almost as a form of teleportation. This however only works within a 10 meter radius of herself and if done improperly can result in the full radius collapsing.

-The essence of life: When close to sources of virl, she can easily use it to begin healing her own wounds or that of others. At the same time it does help to maintain her youth.

Bio
Catherine had a relatively uneventful childhood, born to a pair of unknown parents she was left in an orphanage where she spent almost her entire childhood. During then it was almost the peak of the Vim revolution. The reality was that Catherine was the child of a small faction of religious fanatics, clinging to the remnants of their beliefs and believing that Vim could bring about the old times. As such the orphanage was a cover to acquire children from parents who had forsaken them in order to create a near perfect embodiment of the gods.

The process was brutal and highly inhumane. Many children died but that was not a concern for them, primarily because of the orphanage operating in relatively rural areas and that it was rarely checked up on. Documents were forged for the dead children, claiming they had been adopted and with some cash this was all accepted. They seeked out a rare birthmark in children, one that granted them the affinity to magic and the gods. After many years, it finally manifested in their daughter, Catherine. It first took the form of a small curve with a jagged line piercing straight through it on her back and slowly spiralled out more and more. It was there and then that they decided to put her through the creation process.

The process was too painful to detail but by the end of it all she had come out as an enhanced human. However the magic infused within her and the Vash and Virl inside clashed. This caused the area around her to be generally unstable and in her first outburst after being released she almost wiped out the entire orphanage but only destroyed the holding areas. This left nothing behind, only a crater. She eventually left the orphanage, leaving behind her a bloody trail. Her mind no longer existed as Catherine, she was something else, something different, something that her parents could not for see coming. All that remained of the child, was a vengeance for the new, and a blood lust to bring about the old world.
