Yeah, I was thinking of making a very proud character, and the first person to come to mind was Roman Torchwick.

If I reuse the character I'm thinking of reusing, I'm possibly thinking of the Yakuza group he's part of (in a certain manner), being affiliated with some villain faction that already exists. As far as I can tell, the only group with criminal ties that operates in Japan that I can currently see is Toaslandia's White Serpent.

I don't know how you're supposed to drown or suffocate someone that's a giant, for example. She's basically still only vulnerable o electricity and flames.

I chose the durability because I decided to try a more classic hero this time. If she is vulnerable to someone and they injure her, she's injured for a long time, but she isn't to most things, or else the durability/time warping in her body would be nothing but a giant drawback.

Also, anything that can cut off her supply to oxygen works as well. She hates dust and sand, because coughing and choking is terrible for her, and a force field over her that cuts off her supply of oxygen is a great way to knock her out or kill her. She is vulnerable to electricity and powerful flames, but they do more surface damage than anything, electricity making her stiff and sore for days and flame causing the top layer of her skin to grow hot and stay that way, a very painful few weeks as her body slowly tries to reverse the damage.

There are something like forty meta-humans in the Syndicate alone that could hurt/kill her, with more out in the world, many of them villains, and there hundreds of meta-humans with electrical powers and thousands with flame. She's not quite as tough as she might seem, just escalated in a world where people are beyond the bounds of what should be.

You can still be extra durable without being immune to the vast majority of attacks. Durability is fine. This is just overpowered. Especially if some of the weaknesses you listed only do surface damage to cause soreness but not really have an effect in a battle.

You're saying she's not as tough as she seems but she's still stronger than everyone else that's currently on the team and it's not really close.

JAN SOROK

"What am I supposed to write here?.."

Image

VITALS

Name: Jan Sorok
Nickname/Alias: Lech
Appearance:
Image

Gender: M
Age: 19
Build: 5'5" / 52 kg

Primary Ability:

  • Psionics: Psionics is an umbrella term for powers which involve reading and projecting one's thoughts and mental power either for mental or physical effects - and it is the power which manifested within Jan and now follows him throughout his life. The most obvious use of psionics is, obviously, telepathic communication with any other human beings - however, psionics is a very catch-all superpower and this is far from the only application of Jan's powers.

Other Abilities:

  • Telepathic Communication: The ability to communicate with others from a distance through thoughts. The power Jan uses the most often, sometimes even subconsciously, reading the thoughts of other people around him without being fully aware of what's happening.
  • Mind Sensing: As Jan's telepathy does not have a sight limitation (but other powers like telekinesis do), this is pretty much a required secondary power for it. He is able to sense the presence of other conscious minds within a few kilometer radius and reach out to them - as such, the range limitation of Jan's mind sense is also the range limitation of his telepathic powers.
  • Mind Network: If Jan reaches out to more than one person with his telepathic powers, he forms a network of connected minds with him as the central "server", allowing people who might not have telepathic powers themselves to communicate with others who are a part of this "mind network" through a distance.
  • Telekinesis: The ability to control and manipulate objects with one's mind - say, lift up objects, throw them or crush them. A fairly versatile use of Jan's powers, though it has very clear limits - manipulating objects above his own weight inflicts significant strain upon his body, which grows exponentially with every single body weight added on top. Lifting, say, a ton of weight telekinetically (say, a heavy car) might just leave him unconscious.
  • Psionic Constructs: The ability to channel psionic energy into physical constructs, such as blades or tools. The least trained application of Jan's power out of those which he has unlocked, as such, he can only create the most basic constructs such as shields or swords.

Power Drawbacks:

  • Telekinetic Strain: As stated earlier, Jan's telekinesis has clear limits on how much matter he can control or push at once. There is a point in which the strain becomes so hard to bear that no amount of willpower can power through it.
  • Physical Frailty: Jan is as physically durable as a mundane human person - and perhaps even less so, seeing as he is smaller and lighter than average. If you stab him, he will bleed out. If you toss him out a five story window, he will die. And no amount of telepathy or telekinesis will change that.
  • Inexperienced: Jan is one of the youngest members of the Syndicate and has had far less time to develop the extent of his powers than any of his peers. As such, even if his primary ability is far from a shabby or limited power, he can fairly easily be defeated by opponents with more experience and/or training, assuming he doesn't have backup.

Equipment: Nothing notable.

DETAILS

Nationality: Polish
Hometown: Warsaw, Poland
Sexuality: Straight

Personality: Having suffered through the loss of his family at the hands of villains and being dragged through the underbelly of society, Jan has resolved to never, ever, ever allow anyone else go through the same again. This is the concept which is central to the young hero's life and serves as his primary drive, both to improve, to continue being a hero and to push himself to the brink in battle. In general, though, he's a calm, collected and talkative guy, though not really the type to open up - whether it's because he doesn't want to or because his English skills are still lacking is something he doesn't offer an answer to.
Biggest Flaw: Jan has a strong sense of right and wrong and is dutifully dedicated to doing the former, which means that the word "compromise" doesn't exist in his vocabulary. If he has decided that something is the right thing to do - even if it's far too dangerous for something like him, even if his allies have voiced disagreement, even if it compromises a plan, even if it's not actually the right thing to do - then he's going to do it, no matter what.
Main Skills: The years of living on the street, fending off for himself, have given Jan plenty of experience in street fighting and surviving by himself, among others - even if it has also left him frail and malnourished.

Biography: Jan was born to Jozef and Katrina Soroks, a family of middle class, religious public servants in Warsaw, the capital city of Poland - not really thrown into complete poverty, but far from a wealthy family, either, especially since it's still Poland we're talking about and not, say, Western Europe. The boy's early life went pretty inconsequentially - the nation was in the midst of an economic boom, the Great Recession came and went without leaving any lasting impact, and though the country's political development was... not necessarily for the best, but since Jan's parents were PiS supporters and voters, they kept their seats in administrative office fairly smoothly. Jan himself spent his childhood immersed in comic books, Western television, and hoping to one day follow the steps of his morther and father and help make the lives of other better by fighting for them in public office.

Until he turned around 14 years old, which is when everything started going to crap. You see... Poland, and especially its right-wing elected government, have always been one of the most vocal opponents of radical left and the Red Storm specifically, their superheroes paying additional attention to roopting out these far-left terrorists within their country and pushing for their neighbours, especially Germany, to follow up with similar efforts. Running out of patience with the uppity Easterners, the Red Storm opted to make a show of force, by committing a mass act of terrorism in the country - and the target they chose was Poland's Ministry of Internal Affairs, where several squads of terrorists were sent to infiltrate the complex and slaughter everything standing on two legs which isn't one of their own or an ironing board. And, unfortjnately, this was also the ministry in which Jozef and Katrina were working, and just so happened to bring their son to their place that day...

The faint sounds of screams and gunfire echoing from the corridors was enough of a hint that nobody with a sane mind would wish to stay in their office for too long - however, the Soroks, stuck in a crowd of fleeing public servants, did not manage to escape in time, and as soon as the first of the Syndicalist terrorists caught up to them, both Jozef and Katrina were gunned down in seconds, while their son barely leapt to the side in the nick of time. Enraged, Jan stretched his arms forward and, alongside screams of anger, bent the barrels of the weapons of the assaulters and tossed several tables, drawers and cabinets without touching any one of them, knocking out half of them and forcing the rest to step back in surprise and confusion at the boy unlocking his innate powers at this very instant, giving him enough of a window to flee and escape the complex without any further incidents.

Jan was tossed into the world with a shellshocked mind, still failing to grasp the terror he witnessed in front of him, no parents or guardians - his parents' home was inherited by his uncle, who lived in Norway and had zero interest in taking in a nephew, and the rest of his extended family were either too distant or already dead - and freshly unlocked psionic abilities. Fearing (unreasonably so) that he might still be targeted by the Red Storm, the boy offered to not offer himself to any authorities, say, child protection services, and instead began living all by himself, becoming a vagabond, falling to the lowest underbelly of Polish society - living off what he could gather, scraps and the occasional short-term job, witnessing rampant crime, violence and suffering he had never even heard of back during his comfortable middle class life, and getting into incidents with thugs or even police almost every single day. Faced with malnutrition at the point in his life when he should be having his teenage growth spur, Jan was left frail and shorter than his peers - but still refused to give in.

He hated it, he hated it all - and he was so close to breaking and becoming like the rest, too. However, he found solace in a few things. The first one was God, which had been a major presence throughout his whole life regardless thanks to his parental upbringing. The second was the innate feeling that despite all that happened, he was still different from others. He did not see himself as a thug, he never brought himself to steal to survive, he didn't want to act selfish or like a psychopath... and he was where he was exactly because of others acting selfish and like psychopaths. And if so, then the true path to solace is to make sure that what happened to him doesn't happen to others. That he should try to use his powers to prevent what he himself failed to prevent. Starting around 16 years old, Jan would occasionally start to take up on vigilantism - stopping robberies, assaults or muggings with his psionic powers, take down the scum with police nor any other authority ever bothered to touch. With each life saved, with each person's day made just a little better, his conviction grew greater and greater.

After finally reaching 18 years of age, Jan - now emotionally grown up, but not physically - caught wind of an initiative started by the Syndicate, the plan to form a team of superheroes in London and the ongoing recruitment effort to make it real. As much as Jan hoped to put his skills into use for his country, he also could tell that there's little he can change in the poverished suburbs of Warsaw - offering his meager skills to a team of fellow heroes could give him the experience needed, too. As such, with the bare savings he had at his disposal, the psionic vigilante made his way to the United Kingdom, though a combination of bus rides, friendly travelers picking him up on car rides, some travel on foot, and finally a ferry to Dover, where he reached out to the local Syndicate headquarters with the desire to join Team Fox. For the first time in a long time, he received a full lunch - however, it wasn't easy to convince the Syndicate to accept his offer. Jan was, after all, considerably younger than the average age and far from being in perfect physical conditions. However, psionics are always a useful addition to any team, and this is the line with which the Pole finally managed to convince his superiors to allow him into Team Fox.

He received a costume, something he had not been used to in the past - he'd fight crime in whatever clothes he had available in the past, after all, not even taking up on a specific identity - and adopted an alias, dubbing himself "Lech", after the legendary hero and founder of the Polish people, as a symbol of his national affiliation remaining a strong part of his identity.

REI FUJIWARA

"It's just how the world works. Nothing more than that."

Image

VITALS

Name: Rei Fujiwara (Fujiwara Rei or 藤原麗)
Nickname/Alias: Rei-chan, Shion Miyazawa (pseudonym), Shirasu158 (online name), Shiryō (死霊, translates to Dead Soul/Ghost/Wraith), possibly other nicknames
Appearance: Delicate, slim physique with straight black hair long enough to reach his thighs. Easily mistaken for a girl in both appearance and voice, a misconception aided by his choice of clothing. Yellow-green eyes. For some reason, he often seems to have a lollipop. He also tends to wear quite a bit of jewelry. Despite having a fairly high income, he doesn't tend to wear much in the way of expensive clothing, though it can vary. Could be designer clothes at times, a school uniform, or cheap hoodies at others. Has tattoos on his back (seems to be based on a skeletal depiction of Kiyohime from Japanese folklore) and piercings in certain places. Often wears flower-styled ornaments in his hair.

Gender: Male
Age: Age is unknown exactly, though he appears to be in his mid teens, and at the very least claims he's 16. Could be younger or older, though (he was an orphan, and the exact date of birth is unknown, too, and he had no birth register).
Build: 5'4" and 110lbs (50kg).
Status: Metahuman
Classification: B

Primary Ability: Molecular Manipulation:

Regenerative Healing Factor. He can heal. Fairly self explanatory. It's passive, not instant, and whilst he can recover from extreme damage that average people definitely wouldn't return from, the speed of healing depending on severity of injuries, and it is still painful. Repeated injuries, electrocution, drugs, objects blocking the healing process, misaligned body parts, etc can interfere with healing process. The most serious injuries cause him to enter a death-like state, though as soon as key/core elements of his nervous system regenerate - which is what his body will try to repair first, he'll regain awareness, at least to some extent, even if he may not have healed enough to do much more than that). After healing, may be rather tired/hungry/dehydrated. He'll essentially heal from all manner of things given enough time, but this doesn't exactly mean he's immune to injuries and can just shrug stuff off.
Other Abilities:
1: Molecular Oscillation. He can vibrate the molecules of living (including himself) and non-living matter at high speeds with various effects, most commonly to passing through or harden other molecules. It takes the form of very powerful vibrations produced and directed from his body. The uses for this are many and varied, but they range from allowing him to skate at high-speeds across solid surfaces and disarm opponents that strike him with weapons, all the way up to carving through high-carbon steel with his fingertips. Electricity can be a problem; a static shock will slow him down for a minute or two, but getting tasered or hit with an electrical superpower is going to put him out of commission for hours when using this ability. He also has significantly more trouble using his mobility powers when surfaces are icy.

2: Phasing/Intangibility. Utilising his molecular manipulation, he can transform his body into an intangible form, deciding what objects his body can interact with. He generally has to focus on it to be phased (meaning he can be surprised and attacked) and he can only phase through something as long as he holds his breath (after all, he's not phasing all the air around him along with him, so he only has the air already in his body). The denser the material, the harder, more difficult and sometimes even painful it is to phase through it. He may also need a certain precision and attention to control what phases and what doesn't, and could end up in a troublesome situation, to say the least, if this is not managed carefully. That includes being forced to become tangible when still travelling through a physical obstacle, and being in essence, telefragged. Such a situation would likely result in him being severely injured, for instance losing an arm if he becomes tangible while it is still part way through a wall. His phasing, molecular oscillation and self-detonation take energy, so he can't use them endlessly without resting/regaining energy.

Electricity can interfere with the phasing process, arcing into his body, re-constituting the molecules of his body without his input and forcing his entire body to become tangible again. Some other form of energy/particles may be able to get to him, as well. Whilst being intangible may allow him to avoid attacks, in turn he has to become tangible to do damage. For instance, to use a gun, it has to be tangible to work - so he'd have to become tangible too, to use it, otherwise the bullet would phase through things.

Theoretically, if he becomes intangible on particular frequencies, he can also make himself invisible, though because light won't reach him, he would be effectively blind. The same concept can be applied to sound, so to avoid sound-based attacks he'd have to render himself deaf. He can bring others with him into intangibility, but they need to be in direct physical contact beforehand. Before mastering this ability, there'll obviously be trouble controlling it properly. Phasing through walls and floors accidentally, phasing into things, loosing objects, clothing, etc.

When he gets better at using this skill, he may be able to use phasing offensively if he concentrates, with a weapon/object or body part of his being phased into another person, without his own body being affected negatively (so doing stuff like literally taking someone's heart out might be possible - just an idea though).

3: Self Detonation. Using his ability to manipulate molecules in his body, he can set of a chain reaction that involves a rapid, volatile build up of energy, resulting in an explosion. The size of the explosion can vary. Generally not the first course of action, for obvious reasons. He literally explodes. He can potentially set off a smaller explosion from part of his body, though he'd still pay a price for it. Fairly costly, uses a lot of energy, and isn't an instant recovery deal. Useful, and more so than it would be if he died easily. Still generally something he avoids doing unless necessary, or ordered to do so. This manipulation of energy and molecules is again related to his intangibility and molecular oscillation. May add some more weaknesses/prerequisites, though I'm not sure what else to add (open to suggestions, like particular things being able to neutralise this power, such as electricity, energy draining, some sort of interference like a bioelectrical canceller/molecular stabiliser/device that messes with/supresses/controls his body's energy and molecular activity, and/or other things - this may also work for blocking the oscillation and phasing powers). Not instant, so it could possibly be interrupted while building up.

Power Drawbacks: See next to respective powers. Not really a drawback to his powers as such, but his youth means he lacks the experience others might possess. Also not really power-related, but he's not exactly a tank. Strength and endurance are areas he could be considered to be deficient in.

Equipment: Various concealed knives, garrote wire, Makarov PM pistol (Baikal IZH-79-8 variant), Remington 870 shotgun, Škorpion vz. 61 machine pistol, Vektor R5 assault rifle and some RGD-5 frag grenades. On some occasions he also uses a katana. For some longer-range assassinations he tends to use a Norinco NDM-86 (Chinese Dragunov copy). Obviously not all at the same time, but he has used these on different occasions.

DETAILS

Organization: Ryōgokuya-kai (they are loosely affiliated with Lux at the moment, so by extension, them)
Profession: Assassin, torturer, Yakuza (among other things, see bio)

Alignment: Evil

Nationality: Japanese
Residence: Shinjuku, Tokyo
Sexuality: Pansexual

Personality: Personality-wise, he's a bit tsundere, though if he gets attached to someone enough, possibly a bit yandere. Generally fairly cynical, though he can enjoy himself and cast that to the wind sometimes. Bit distrusting of others, though he usually masks it behind a faint smile. Can be a bit mischievous. Has a dry or sarcastic sense of humour, and can sometimes be a bit too honest when it comes to telling people things they don't want to hear (perhaps knowingly). Tends to assume ulterior motives when others approach him. Aware of his appearance, and those that others can find it appealing. Likes being admired by others. He also uses the advantages of being thought of as a girl, including sometimes being treated preferentially. Has something of an inferiority complex. He can sometimes come across as oddly innocent, cheerful and kind, yet at other times as cold and empty. He can at rare times be remarkably fearful and eager to obey others, should he be cornered or overpowered. Rei is usually emotionally distant, refusing to allow anyone to become too close to him, though he may not always succeed, and can come off as shy rather than harsh, a demeanour supported by a lack of experience in anything approaching a healthy relationship. He sometimes displays fear and anxiety at the touch of others, though his outer façade or "shell" of calmness is usually a sufficient mental barrier. He can be considered to have a dedicated, almost obsessive will regarding whatever task he puts himself to, or is assigned to. Perhaps it was his brainwashing, or perhaps something akin to Stockholm syndrome or something else, but he developed a bit of an obsession with Miyahara and Isayama.

He lacks much in the way of social skills, and in some ways is naïve, yet at the same time pessimistic and jaded, ruthless to those that get in his way, yet also expecting or anticipating others to grind him into the dirt, or attempt to do so. He's used to not having anyone else to protect him, and is accordingly wary. When torturing or killing others, he sometimes displays the ecstatic glee of a sadist who "feels alive," while at other times he simply displays an empty, apathetic, broken countenance; the appearance of someone who simply does not care anymore. Uncertain what emotions he feels are genuine or not. Unfortunately for him, his most vivid memories are the ones he would most like to forget, though he sometimes justifies the things that have happened to him, as being something he deserved. Sometimes seems a bit absent-minded. May have memory problems due to drugs. Said drug-usage in the past has also led to some of his mental irregularities. Probably has PTSD. Wants to be useful to others, to have a purpose. Fears being discarded, being seen as useless, and failure. Tries to show others his best ability, but he feels it's never enough. Quite fond of playing online games in his spare time. Likes sweets, chocolate, fast food, Nissin Soba pot noodles, games, success, clothes/fashion, music (including metal), reading, being useful to others, being praised and liked by others, people with a sense of humour, tattoos and piercings, red, purple, black, smoking, jewelry, tea, dogs, snakes, cats and other stuff. He fears being trapped/restrained, failure, not being of adequate use to others, weakness, powerlessness, ceasing to exist, being ignored by others, or getting too attached to someone, and then being betrayed or losing them.

Biography:
Probably born unwanted, with parentage and date of birth alike unknown, he began life as an orphan in Kamagasaki, or Airin-chiku as it is currently known; one of the less reputable parts of Osaka, and the biggest slum in Japan. A metahuman from birth, he had always possessed remarkable healing abilities. He spent quite a bit living among the detritus of society, stealing to survive. An ageing homeless man named Iwao Fujiwara gave him a name and taught him to read and write. Rei was sometimes picked on due to his remarkably feminine looking appearance, though he tried to use it to get people to protect him. Sometimes locals looked after him and helped him. Of course, given his situation, living in a crime-ridden, dangerous environ, such an approach had mixed results. There were always people who targeted those unable to defend themselves, and thus it was for him. Certainly, some people had compassion, but it was just as easy to encounter people that at best, cared nothing for him, or at worst, wanted to use him as a tool to satiate their own desires. At times, he acted as a spy or messenger for local gangs.

Soon enough, he was unceremoniously picked up off the streets by some shady looking people. In essence, he was kidnapped and ended up being sold into slavery by a local Yakuza group known as the Komasa-gumi. Thus began an involuntary entry into into the sex industry, though he was usually not paid, and often drugged during the process. Considering his particularly feminine appearance, it wasn't too surprising that there were very soon interested parties, though he was still quite young at the time. He was often drugged, though the nature of said narcotics varied (among various others, they included heroin, meth, cocaine and ecstasy). Sometimes he remembered, and was unable to move. Sometimes they made him stop caring. Sometimes he woke up, his mind empty and unaware of what had transpired. His "brainwashing" was aided by drugs, and this included his memory being tampered with and overwritten.

In debt to a certain Yakuza organisation identifying itself as Ryōgokuya-kai, he was told it would take twenty years to pay off the debt, and prostitution was the main means of doing so. He had to both repay the debt, and cover the costs for looking after himself. The organisation did not release people for free, and if he ever desired to escape the hell he had been raised in, this was the only way out. However, fate would ensure he never escaped. It later turned out that the total sum he 'owed' would never be repayable, and he was little more than property. He might in time have purchased himself a certain level of freedom, but he could never be free from the world he grew up in. At some point he would stop caring. It was simply the way the world worked. At another point, he would steadfastly cling to this life. Unsurprisingly, this lifestyle had a mental toll on him, and at times he fell ill with a fever and collapsed, at which point he would be rested for a day or two before returning to his work. His ability to heal meant that he was singled out for the most extreme things, something also undoubtedly affected him psychologically. He was often filmed, and the recordings were sold on the black market as "back videos" or backdoor videos as they were known in Japan. At some point he developed an addiction or dependency to one of the drugs he was given, and he came to have a habit of taking it in the form of sweets. Subsequently, he ended up developing a habit of regularly collecting sweets to nibble on, including lollipops.

Several years passed. At some point he fell into the hands of someone who decided to keep him a bit more permanently, the Ryōgokuya-kai Yakuza boss himself, Seiichirō Miyahara. It could have been worse, Rei told himself. At least he was useful to others. At least he had food and shelter. Sometimes clothes, too, though they were usually those worn by women. It sometimes hurt, and Rei sometimes suffered abuse that easily rivalled that of his previous "patrons" when servicing Miyahara, his subordinates and guests (be they male or female), but at least he didn't die. Surely ceasing to exist was worse. Inevitably, his warped mind warped even further. He deserved it. Then it became a gift, a blessing. Along the way, he was sometimes told to run errands, eventually learning how to blackmail or murder the enemies of whomever owned him, often lowering their guard through his apparent femininity and youth in the process. Also played a role in orchestrating conflicts between rival criminal organisations, and spreading misinformation to them and the authorities. Such a vocation was obviously dangerous, and ended up in no small share of fights. Sometimes things went well. Other times, not so much. He knew well enough by now, how to take a beating. One way or another, he endured, and did his job as best he could.

Thus it was, that from a mere tool, he became a weapon. He would work his way into their trust, or at least a situation in which he could kill them or take important information from them, and escape. Rei came to target numerous individuals, beginning with minor nuisances... debtors who avoided keeping their promises, reporters... the family members of officials and low-level judges. At some point he also began targeting traitors or rivals within the Ryōgokuya-kai. He sometimes served as interrogator and torturer, too, tending more towards psychological/mental torture rather than physical, knowing that it means more evidence left behind. It gradually escalated. If he didn't perform adequately enough, or even failed, he would always pay a price. Unsurprisingly, he rarely failed. Such became his life, and after enough time, all the prostitution, blackmailing, torture, fighting and death pretty much became a blur. Somewhere along the way, he was adopted into the Ryōgokuya-kai, though he was considered little more than Miyahara's plaything. He was also taught Shūkōkai karate by Ryūzō Maeda, one of Miyahara's top subordinates.

In spite of all these ordeals, it would only be later on that his true potential would be unveiled, and his abilities drawn out. The Ryōgokuya-kai had already established tentative links with the city of Ningbo from their dealings in China, and was avariciously viewing the potential profit to be had from the city's recently burgeoning black market trade links, and recent rumours of a major drugs transfer in the area. There were some triad groups willing to do business, but certain individuals, wary of a newcomer organisation making their presence felt, were doing their best to ensure that this particular endeavour failed. Accordingly, Rei was sent to spy on them, and in due time, neutralise at least some of them. At some point during the exchange, things deteriorated rapidly. It soon became apparent that several major triad groups were vying for control over the area, and had been lured in by rumours of various sorts. Conflict rapidly broke out in the city, and Rei himself was soon caught up in it.

The Ryōgokuya-kai's men in the city start vanishing, and they begin catching on. They organised a gathering a little to the north west of the city, near its outskirts, in order to consolidate and plan a proper course of action in regards to recent events, and the increasingly belligerent actions towards them by local triad groups and these mysterious disappearances. The gathering was ambushed, and casualties were sustained on both sides. Rei's own memories of what happened were a blur. All he remembers is blood, bullets, corpses and pain. He vaguely recalls that he himself shot a number of people, before another metahuman appeared, an athletic-looking Chinese woman, bursting through the defences. He felt himself hurtling through the air, and slamming into the wall, before collapsing, bleeding and broken. Within a minute or two the sounds of shooting stopped. His vision swam, and his body cried out in agony whenever he tried to move. Someone approached, noticing he was still alive. Rei recalls little after that, save for a hand lifting him up by the throat, and then tightening, reducing the pain and fear to a vague haze, before fading into unconsciousness.

He later awoke bound and gagged in a dark room, chained to a radiator. His situation soon became apparent. Whoever was behind the attack, seemingly one of the triad groups, had taken him away as a hostage following the ambush. Noticing his recovery from his previous condition, they realise that Rei is a metahuman. Under repeated interrogation and torture, Rei is forced to endure, again and again. Then it happens. A brief lapse in the interrogation occured, and the interrogator left the room. Able to think coherently once more, Rei gathered his will, a determination to break free and return to his master dominating his thoughts. It was then that he triggered what would reveal itself to be a new ability. He phased through his restraints, and re-solidified on the other side of the room, inadvertently leaving his tattered clothes next to the radiator. Forcing himself to walk in spite of various injuries from the interrogation, he realised he had awakened something new in himself, he began testing his powers inside the room. Focusing, he began vibrating the molecules in his right foot, and kicked the door. The interrogator, a burly-middle-aged Chinese man, received quite the shock on the other side, as Rei blasted a hole through the metal door. As the man reached for a pistol, Rei moved to the side, phased through the wall and reappeared next to him, phasing back and promptly delivering an oscillation-enhanced slash across the man's throat with his left hand. Virtually severing the man's neck, he continued on.

Soon enough, a darkly comical scene arose. Several dozen hardened Chinese criminals up against a naked Japanese youth. What followed was a bloodbath for the triad, the floor littered with bullet casings, blood and dismembered limbs. Pausing to rest, he then began pursuing a pair of survivors, who had fled down a nearby corridor. Following them, he entered the main hall of the triad base. He saw the two survivors, frantically babbling to man who seemed to be the leader. He also saw the better part of a hundred men in the hall.

Evidently this wasn't going to be so easy. Things got worse when the metahuman woman from before appeared from a door at the opposite end of the hall. Already tired and injured, and only just having acquired his new power, he expected he would have to go down fighting. In dire straits once again, he pushed himself. A seemingly suicidal idea came to him. He began manipulating the molecules in his entire body, creating a form of explosively volatile energy in his body, and beginning a chain reaction that would result in a big explosion. Needless to say, it more than did the job. The building was totalled, and the triad men were reduced to a state not conducive to life.

The first thing Rei remembers in the wake of that, is returning to consciousness in some form of containment tank, hooked up to a variety of odd-looking technological devices, his arms and legs bound, and a breathing apparatus connected to his mouth. Time passed. It could have been days, or centuries, for all he knew. It certainly felt like the latter. He lost track of how many injections, incisions, implants, and other things were carried out or done to him, as they experimented on him. He saw masked figures warped into dull, indistinct entities by the distorted, thick glass of the tank. The murmur of voices followed, and he vaguely discerned that he was in a facility owned by a corporation affiliated with the Ryōgokuya-kai. The only reason he had survived before, was because of his healing ability.

It turned out that following the earlier debacle in China, he had been recovered by the Ryōgokuya-kai. Miyahara had established connections with an unscrupulous Japanese company involved in biotech and genetics research several years earlier, Mitsubayashi Corporation, and made a deal to have Rei experimented on, in an effort to make him more useful and stablise the power he had evidently awakened. Mostly isolated, he saw countless others chosen for a specific test, vanishing and never returning. He had sometimes witnessed with his own eyes, what happened to those whose bodies rejected the tests, or to whom malfunctions in artificial alterations occurred, resulting in their bodies essentially breaking down and mutating simultaneously, becoming barely human wretches. Before long, it became simply another fact of life. The experiments eventually bore fruit, and his molecular abilities were stablised and rendered easier to control. From overhearing conversations about the research, Rei also became aware that his body possessed an inherently unique molecular structure and nature, and that there were still many mysteries to be uncovered regarding his body. There was even talk of cloning him to see if his abilities could be replicated or better understood.

Following this, he underwent a few more tests before being released, returning to Miyahara's side, more capable than ever before. He mainly operated in Japan, residing at a fairly expensive condo with a rent of 580,000 yen, in Shinjuku. Of course, in truth it wasn't actually owned by him, and only a fraction of the money was actually his. He traveled elsewhere, including South Korea, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Brazil, Australia and the US, sometimes masquerading as a student, supposedly travelling with an "uncle" or distant relative. As before, his activities varied considerably, and amounted to essentially whatever the Ryōgokuya-kai wanted him to do. He had long occupied an odd position in the Ryōgokuya-kai, as someone sold to them as a child, as little more than a slave, and as someone sworn by the traditional Yakuza oath as a loyal "child" of the oyabun/godfather. He was technically yakuza, and a dangerous individual in his own right, yet at the same time subordinate to proper members of the syndicate. As far as Rei saw it, it was simply natural.

Whilst cautious in utilising his new abilities, rumours had been circulating in the criminal underworld over the last year or two, and he had begun accruing a certain reputation amongst Yakuza, contract killers and their would be employees, especially regarding certain cases where he seems to have gained access to and killed a target through unknown means. At other times explosions have rocked areas such as police headquarters, meeting places for rival Yakuza, and other locations. Of course, mysterious disappearances and deaths would also attract the attention of the Japanese authorities, some of whom have been searching for a suspect for a number of cases. Nonetheless, Miyahara and the Ryōgokuya-kai continued using Rei's metahuman abilities to carry out various 'errands,' while Rei's identity and relationship with the Ryōgokuya-kai was still unknown to authorities. It was known that a dangerous metahuman had led to some Yakuza groups being unusually active, but the details were still unknown. Most prominent Yakuza were monitored by the police, and younger members who felt they had something to prove notwithstanding, they usually tried not to cause enough trouble to get shut down and arrested en-mass by police.

Recently, the Ryōgokuya-kai has loosely begun aligning themselves with Lux, with Miyahara recognising the potential power and wealth to be gained from such an arrangement. By extension, he has gradually started the process of leading the other members of the Kantō-Shinnō-Doushi-kai alliance down a similar path. Subsequently, Rei has been ordered to obey Lux's leadership however they see fit. Of course, this alignment isn't set in stone yet, and could change depending on the circumstances, but as it is, it is the current path being tread by the Ryōgokuya-kai.

For reference, the Yakuza group Rei is afiliated with, the Ryōgokuya-kai, are a large (numbering around 11,860 people), fairly wealthy Yakuza syndicate, currently led the ambitious kumichō/oyabun (boss) Seiichirō Miyahara. Miyahara himself also happens to be a metahuman, with a reputation for helping himself to some of the 'goods' from their human trafficking. He also has a reputation as a ruthless, smart operator, even by Yakuza standards. Under his leadership, the Ryōgokuya-kai has been growing in power, connections and influence over the past decade. In the last few years, some of their rivals have been hemorrhaging territory and suffering defections to the Ryōgokuya-kai. Their activities are rather varied, including racketeering, human trafficking, organised prostitution, contract killing, extortion/blackmail, luxury items fencing, information brokerage, stock market manipulation, drugs trade, gambling, arms trade, pornography and various other things. On the legal front, they have businesses involved in real estate, construction and the entertainment industry. They also have some connections with several uyoku dantai (右翼団体) or Japanese ultranationalist far-right groups (Yakuza often use them as camouflage) as well as ties with politicians in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. The Ryōgokuya-kai was formerly known as Zen-Ryōgokuya-rengō-kai, and are based in Tokyo. They are part of an alliance of Yakuza known as the Kantō-Shinnō-Doushi-kai (Kanto Shennong Association), with Miyahara's growing power bringing the Ryōgokuya-kai to an increasingly dominant position in the alliance. Among certain of the groups more closely aligned to the Ryōgokuya-kai in this alliance, there has been talk of directly merging them into the Ryōgokuya-kai. Another prominent figure, also integral to the success of the Ryōgokuya-kai, is a metahuman woman named Sanae Isayama, the wakagashira (first lieutenant) of the syndicate. Whilst Sanae may seem fairly mild-mannered at first, most members of the Ryōgokuya-kai know that she can be quite vicious, sadistic and cunning behind her apparently tolerant facade. As it is, Rei himself is particularly quick to obey her orders. Sometimes she comes to him for a bit of "stress relief". Miyahara also has a daughter, Kaede Miyahara, an impetuous and hot-headed girl, though fairly approachable, if one ignores her family, and the scary-looking people that tend to follow her around.

Among various fronts, they are closely associated behind the scenes with the Mitsubayashi Corporation, an unscrupulous Japanese company involved in biotech and genetics research, with a certain subdivision dedicated to experimentation with metahuman powers, and attempting to awaken or strengthen them. An important figure in the company's research is Professor Kōji Mitsubayashi, along with Junior Associate Professor Takahiro Arakawa and Assistant Professor Yukihisa Toma.

Professor Mitsubayashi researches areas such as biomedical engineering/biomaterial science and engineering, nano/microsystems, perceptual information processing, analytical chemistry and biofunction/bioprocess, measurement engineering, and device related chemistry. Arakawa focuses on measurement engineering, control engineering/system engineering, general applied physics nano/microsystems and electron device/electronic equipment. They have researched a broad range of of topics, including electrochemistry, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science and biochemistry, pursuing interdisciplinary research in bio-MEMS, bio-optics, bio-electronics or bioinformatics by combining biotechnology and information technology.

They are also aided by a leading Japanese biologist (including subtypes like computational biology, biochemistry, biophysics and microbiology), Anri Hosokawa, a prominent neuroscientist, Ryūnosuke Takano and a roboticist named Kaori Utsunomiya among various others.

I must warn you about making just a villain and not someone on the main team.

I mainly say that because the World Thread isn't as active as the main story thread and basically if you want to do anything there, you'll probably have to find someone else that wants to play out that scenario and then write it there with them, instead of just following whatever is going on in the main story.

But of course, this style is possible and I myself have some plans there, you just need more collaboration.

Anyway, looks good, accepted.

What if I added that electricity overrides her time distortion due to its speed, essentially stopping her in time, and when she gets out she is in pain for days as it slowly works itself out of her system? Would that be better?

And you want that instead of just general durability... Because?

If you went that route you could remove the weaknesses to specific attacks alltogether in exchange for not having immunity from most attack types.

I personally find general durability a bit boring, and I want Babylon to be the type of person who can take a mortar round to her face and be essentially unharmed (aside from the force of it knocking her back) while a taser could override her power and freeze her arm in time, rendering her stuck in place. It seems amusing to me how the scale of damage can be so distorted. She would have to carefully stay away from anyone who could leverage electricity against her, limiting who she could fight in close quarters (or not so close quarters, if it is a meta human with excellent range), so would that be a proper drawback to augment the existing ones?

So basically you want her to be so durable that every opponent we face needs to have some kind of electricity based attack or the fight will be hilariously unfair since they have to go up against a giant who doesn't take damage to the vast majority of attacks and can only be shocked, burnt, or choked out?

JOURNALIST APPLICATION

VITALS

Name: Muriel Harper
Nickname/Pseudonym: The Harpy
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Female
Age: 40

DETAILS

Outlet: The London Looking Glass
Bias: Sensationalist
Home City: Liverpool, U.K.
Nationality: British
Integrity Rating: 4

Personality: A Survivor, somewhat cynical of what most people would call “obvious truths”. Gets a kick out of exposing others’ “dirty laundry”.
Bio: Muriel Harper was a promising student on track to become a professor of English Literature when an unexpected pregnancy and the pressure by the baby’s father’s family for an abortion put her into the hospital for an extended period of time. A clerical error at the hospital not only resulted in the abortion but also a full hysterectomy.

Harper went through a good deal of therapy and eventually was cleared by the psychiatrists to re-enter society. However, Muriel was determined to make the hospital and her lover’s family pay for what had happened to her. She went back to school to study journalism and managed to find a private detective willing to teach her the arts of investigation. She landed a job at the news tabloid, “The London Looking Glass”, where the articles she wrote caused an investigation of that hospital with many high and low ranking persons losing their jobs. Likewise, using the truth she’d learned with her detective skills, she ruined the reputations of her former lover’s family. She did not shed a tear when the patriarch committed suicide and the matriarch moved to France.

The owners of the London Looking Glass love what her stories do for their circulation, even though they are a little bit afraid of her.

Over the years, Harper’s reputation earned her the nickname, “Harpy”. She knows that her contemporaries hate her, but they don’t understand her mission, or the woman.

I've had boss characters that aren't that powerful.

Or someone like Raphaella who has a power that can cut through anything, or possibly the black magic blade user or the Boston girl with her blasts of supercharged kinetic energy.

Also, she can be restrained. Her mass manipulation, for one, does not apply to organic matter, meaning against another person she is effectively fighting without her strength, so a stronger person could simply wrap their arms around her and choke her out if they got the chance. She could be handcuffed in a way that denies her leverage to get out, no matter how weak she makes the restraints, or in a larger scale battle she could get trapped under rubble, unable to move or even breathe. A hydro-kinetic could drown her, an aero-kinetic could suffocate her, an earth manipulator could try to make her choke to death on dust, or other ways. If you know of her, think of Alexandria from the web serial WORM. She seemed invulnerable (and was far more so than my character is), but she still went down when someone was able to think around her invulnerability to find her weak points.

Babylon cannot let her guard down because any attack that can get through effectively means it will cause catastrophic damage. Even on her own team, Raphaella could cut her down in two seconds given the chance, and that's only one in a group of twenty. She may be immune to conventional weapons, but her immunity doesn't extend as far as it might seem.

I don't know if I am just poorly explaining this, but it seems so clear in my head.

If this doesn't work, I can try to fix the durability to some other method.

Raph can cut through anything, sure, but she has to be able to get to melee range first. And even then she's useless if disarmed, or if her blade isn't long enough to penetrate to anywhere vital.

True, but that is still amazing. No room can hold you, because you can cut through the walls or windows. You could topple buildings with your swords by simply dragging your sword along the side as you walk down the length of it, destroying vital supports. You could cut through a street light and send it crashing on top of an enemy with just the right cut.

And even in the situation where you could kill her in seconds, Babylon wouldn't have much long range capabilities at all, and Raphaella would only need one good hit to bring her down. Like I said before, she is immune to most, but that simply means what can get through is nearly guaranteed to seriously harm or kill her, if not keep her injured for a long time.

But if it is still to much, I will try to find another kind of durability. I don't want to take up too much space here or break the rules.

The reason Raph is considered a lot less powerful than Babylon is because with Raph you can just shoot her and Babylon can take a mortar to the face without taking damage, like you said recently.

It doesn't matter if she's hurt when her weaknesses are taken advantage of if those weaknesses are the only ways to get to her. Is she supposed to perform perfectly on basically every mission where the enemy doesn't have some kind of highly specialized counter to her?

I would like to point out that Babylon can't really hurt anyone that much due to her mass manipulation not working on organic objects, not can affected objects cause much pain either. In terms of actually hurting people, she is very hard to kill, but she is also no better at doing harm to people than anyone else. If Raphaella is a glass cannon, Babylon would be an indestructible dull knife. She can potentially cause you to hurt, but shes not going to do anywhere near the damage, except she does have tenacity, somewhat evening it out. Also, she has the same sort of range restriction.

However, I sense this conversation will go nowhere if I continue trying my preferred method of durability, so I will try adapt it to something more agreeable.

Buildings are slightly more structurally sound than that Auph. And sure, no room can hold her, if she has a bladed object. Disarm her and throw her in a room and she's easily held. Raph's key weakness is being disarmed, which anyone theoretically can do. The problem with Babylon is that she simply locks out far too many people from actually hurting her.

I have a few fairly quirky durability powers that aren't straight up durability I could TG for you to look over if you want.

Hm. Perhaps I shouldn't be rereading Worm right now. The Siberian did exactly that with her indestructible object (i.e. her body), but I suppose wildbow isn't an architect either.

Also, any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I'm not nearly as creative as I fancy myself to be.

Ummm Toaslandia, you're response to my post is kinda of....impossible. For one thing Sage was shape shifted at the time, several times actually, even the police wouldn't have the footage yet as they had to contain fire, and you shouldn't have any idea of where Sage is yet. The security footage wouldn't be public yet, about all that is known is the school was attacked, had tags linked to The Wayward, and that a picture was uploaded on a blank, throwaway account.

Neither face Sage used to trash the school, or do the upload look like the one she used to get home. The World Thread isn't entirely build to be a sandbox, and just jumping in on whatever is happening. It's supposed to be snapshots of social media, news posts, world events, or pre-planned things (Such as what Sage is doing). You really need to be discussing with people what you're planning, what you want to do, and get other people involved. It's not it's own thing, it's for sub arcs, and pre-planned things, not just whatever you want to do. I'll reiterate, as I'm trying to be nice, you want to find other people, plan things, and talk it out, not just reply to whatever.
When we lose one we love, our bitterest tears are called forth by the memory of hours when we loved not enough. - Maurice Maeterlinck

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love. - Washington Irving

It is easy to hate and it is difficult to love. This is how the whole scheme of things works. All good things are difficult to achieve; and bad things are very easy to get. - Confucius
