I don't think a spell like this would be a good idea. Firstly, that would take a VERY complex spell to make sure nothing goes wrong, secondly it would take tons of energy to morph a humanoid into a bird form fit for flying, thirdly I don't think you could transform back without talking unless you yet again made the incantation even more complex to allow for some non verbal trigger to return to normal form.

Update on that based on some topical discord discussion, runes are more often used for shapeshifting than incantations for obvious reasons, as Yigros’ magic is very finicky and needs specifics. Relatively easier to make a biological diagram than to describe the entire biology of something, right? It still requires some artistic skill, as you have to actually draw it out, but that’s the tl;dr. Did I miss anything, Cy?

I think that's all we covered.

Just to add more information about the 'runes': there is a written form of High Irrisic and that can be used for spells, but what we're talking about here is drawing a relatively large and intricate symbol on the ground or some other surface (ground is customary) that can be translated into spoken or written 'spells'.

These Runes contain all the information for the spell, but isn't reliant on proper pronunciation and can be drawn at any pace. But a spoken shapeshifting spell would require multiple paragraphs of words to all be perfectly pronounced and completed to not risk death or partial spell completion.

Name: Alaric Tolna
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Age: 23

A towering though thin young man, with steel blue eyes and coal-grey hair. He armors himself with a long hauberk of mail, with a steel lamellar cuirass, and a skullcap-like round helmet with a nasal bar and an aventail.

Weapons: Spear, szabla, tabar axe, steel crossbow (450 lb-class draw), dagger
Magic User: N
Tier 10-B

Personality: High-flying and outgoing, Alaric is generally a very friendly and approachable person, and loves to have fun when not on duty. Music and tales are some of his favorite pastimes, and he keeps a prized flute in his pack. However, his time in service of the Emprise Pallad has tempered the excesses of his personality a little, and he tries to be serious and focused when it comes time for work.

Bio: The youngest son of respectable but rather unnotable frontier merchants, Alaric lived a comfortable, carefree childhood. However, by being the youngest, he always felt overshadowed by his elder siblings and babied by his parents, and that feeling only grew as he became a teenager. His eldest brother was first in line to take over the business, the middle brother was going to the provincial capital to study at a university, and his elder sister would likely get married to another merchant and help take over their business. But for himself? Nothing concrete, except the money he got from his parents and from helping around the town. He wanted to be independent, standing clearly alongside his siblings, but how?

Adventuring turned out to the answer. A well known, even respectable profession, adventurers got to travel around the land doing whatever quests they wanted, and those who were successful could achieve great fame and fortune. It sounded like a lot of fun, plus there were plenty of adventurers around his age too. Being so free of responsibility now worked in his favor, since he could pursue adventuring full time - it was perfect for him. So, when he was 17, he pooled together enough money for a simple sword and gambeson, registered with the local authorities, and started his first quests along the frontier he lived in. His parents were anxious at first for their little boy, but they were also happy that Alaric had found something to devote himself to.

Quickly though, the frontier got kind of boring, with not much to do. The capital was the next logical step; temporarily boarding with his brother, he looked to take his nascent career to the next level. However, the community was completely oversaturated with adventurers, leaving little free work available. Many of them were the children of nobles with more money then sense, who were just looking to have some fun in their spare time. There was no chance of teaming up either - he was ignored, even ridiculed by them the first few times he tried, his frontier background making him seem like a bumpkin and his wealth comparatively nothing to what they had. Many more adventurers were too experienced for him to follow, and they had connections to all the right people while he had none. Insulted and feeling wronged, he left the capital in anger, swearing that he'd come back and show up all of those fools who had wronged him!

Distraught over that ordeal, he stumbled across a temple of Light on the road back to home, and sought refuge inside it. There he lived for a couple weeks, following the Aarkin there in their rituals, trying to calm himself down and reflect on his failures, and learning a little about the Light in the process. While contemplating inside, he remembered a group he'd encountered years before, the Emprise Pallad.

A votive order of men-at-arms sponsored by the Aarkin of Mu'Rhodin, their goals were simple - defend truth, spread justice, and generally ensure that Light was always victorious over Darkness, through both their actions and mannerisms. Unlike most orders, they did not require noble birth; rather, they required a vow to the Light and to emulate its ideals as perfectly as possible. Furthermore, though based in a small town called Vodekosk, members regularly traveled around the land like adventurers, performing quests for the sake of Light. Back when he was a kid, a couple Huzars - their term for a man-at-arms, as non-nobles could not use the title of "knight" - had come to his father's aid, protecting a caravan of goods during a period of heavy bandit activity. With newfound purpose from his time there and the help of the Aarkin in the temple, he sought them out, wanting to shed his shame and become anew, a man of the Light.

Simply joining turned out to not be so hard, with their recommendation helping things along. He hurried back home to inform his family, then he embarked on a trip to Vodekosk. This time however, he wasn't alone - his younger sister, the youngest of the family, had finally gotten old enough to venture out on her own, and inspired by Alaric, she decided to follow him on this new adventure. Though difficult, they passed the order's test, with the ritual of the Silver Chalice inducting them as members of the order. Pooling their money together, and with the help of the Quartermaster, they managed to get some functional, effective - though not necessarily flashy - equipment for their new lives. And then, the training began, consisting of all sorts of weapons, both ranged and melee, and in the ideals exemplified by the Light.

Nowadays, Alaric is a Traveler of the Emprise Pallad, a sort of a trainee stage required to be passed before becoming a full Huzar. In this state, he quests from place to place by himself, combating the ugliness of the Dark through whatever actions he can, all to prove his devotion to his vow. He proudly carries the memories of all lands he visits in his journey, displaying his assortment of regional weapons and trinkets like some sort of war paint. All of the details of these missions are in letters sent back to Vodekosk, to prove his faithfulness to the Captain - the head of the Emprise. In fact, he's almost done, just needing one last major success - and this request, whatever it is, given to him by one of the Aarkin, might just be it.

Skills: Familiar with a wide variety of weapons, has a better than average understanding of economics and haggling, can easily talk to most people.
Flaws/Fears/Shortcomings:

Flaws: Is very prideful when it comes to proving himself and his worth, and can be casually vain. Enjoys money and wealth more than he should as a huzar in training. Despite the teachings of the Light, he like most humans secretly feels distrusting of the other sentient races, especially the ones who look the most different from the human form.

Shortcomings: Can be annoyingly boisterous, has a bad tendency to act rashly, is very insecure about his past and is quick to anger over it.

Fears: That he really is just a loud hypocrite rather than a true warrior of the Light, who will eventually be revealed for who he is.

Name: Erik Beron, aka Ser Erik the Tall
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Age: 48

Image to be included later. Possibly.

Erik is a mountain of a man, standing close to eight feet in height, with immensely broad shoulders, heavily muscles, but slightly chubby. His hair is short and peppered with small flecks of dark grey against otherwise dark brown hair, including his close kept beard. Scars decorate a good amount of his (rather hairy) body, his face being no exception. In particular, a rather large scar over his right eye, and one across his left cheek. His eyes are a dark green, darkened further under prominent brows. Most of his features tend to be obscured by his heavy armor, a thick steel darkened to a spot grey colour, including a thinly visited greathelm.

Weapons:
Image
This but with a slightly flared tip and a straight crossguard. The entire sword reaches to about six and a half feet long, and is quite thick, about half an inch at it's thickest.

Image
This but with a much larger head, and a much shorter spike coming from the head. The mace is about two and a half feet long.

Image
This, but without the design on the inside. It is seven feet tall and three and a half feet wide, about an eighth of an inch at it's thinnest (within the frame) and a quarter of an inch at it's thickest (the frame itself).

Magic User: N
Tier 9-C

Personality:
Nihilistic and rather grouchy most of the time, Erik believes that he has no honor, and that most do not act simply on honor. He believes that the world is a cold, cruel place filled with cold, cruel people who do nothing for anyone but themselves despite their own thoughts, and includes himself in such a broad category. He believes that those who do try to be honorable and heroic and whatnot end up either becoming terrible people, or end up dead. He can be quite violent and I'll tempered, but is perfectly willing as a subordinate to those with the right coin. He considers himself close to the god Krall, but only in the sense of the fact that Erik finds solitude in war, otherwise he is somewhat distrustful of the gods.

Bio:
Bio:Erik was born on a small farm in a kingdom to the North, under unfortunate circumstances. Too large for his mother's womb, he had to be cut out, which effectively killed her in the process. Erik was born during the winter, and barely survived himself until the end of the season. At a young age, he showed to be much larger and stronger than others his age, and even more so than those decently older than him. Erik often kept to himself, but was subject to being easily aggravated with others, causing him to get into plenty of fights as a child, and as large and strong as he was, he could even take adults, though such a circumstance never really happened. At age of 17, a mysterious fire took his home and his father, the only family that he had. Erik was immediately accused of it, but due to lack of evidence, he was let free. For years, the event haunted his mind. Shortly afterwards, he joined his nation's military, proving to be a ruthless and physically impressive specimen, towering above the rest, quite literally. Though not the most talented fighter in some areas, he is still a force to be reckoned with, and what he lacks in agility, he more than makes up for in raw strength. Due to his capabilities, he eventually left the ranks, becoming sellsword and as such, became quite a devastating mercenary, acting as the hand for those who employed him for most of his days.

Skills:
Massive strength and constitution, skills in melee combat, capability in unarmed combat, skill in riding and mounted combat, intimidation.

Flaws/Fears/Shortcomings:
Erik, while a skilled warrior, often allows his anger to get the best of him at many moments. He is also brutally honest man, and prefers a lack of company, these, among other personality traits, make him far from socially apt. He also has an aversion to magic and poison, referring to them as coward's weapons. Lastly, it should be noted that Erik suffers from severe headaches every once in a while, to which he must take a small amount of a mysterious medicinal liquid to ease, which he keeps in a drinking skin on or near him him at all times.
