Horses' hooves thundered down the winding path that looped its way between the massive and foreboding trunks of ancient trees whose canopies blotted out the already rapidly fading light of the setting sun. Four riders pushed their mounts to the limit, racing against an invisible deadline. The rising of the moon would bring with it untold horrors, and none of the company would wish to be there after that. Looking up, the youngest rider caught a brief glimpse of something white and silver moving quickly above the branches of the trees, following them closely. At the front of the pack rode a middle-aged man, graying slightly at the temples of his dark hair. His face was stone, always looking at the next bend in the path, vigilant for signs of the enemy. Behind him, rode a hooded woman with sharp, angular features, beautiful in a dangerous way. On her back hung a bow made of some strange material. Riding on the third horse was the younger one; the apprentice of the first. His eyes were wide, darting anxiously at the thick grove of trees to their left and right as apprehension gripped his features.
The last horseman rode a slight distance behind the others; watching the group for signs of trouble. He looked to be the slightly younger the first, with a short red beard visible under his hood, and the scabbard of a sword hanging from his hip. Darkness had well established itself, choking their vision and whispering the danger of hidden threats. Then, an unearthly scream shattered the night and the group yanked on their reins, coming to a stop, looking round in confusion and worry. The unmistakable sound of large beating wings came down from above, followed by a thump and the sound of rustling fabrics. Whirling around in the saddle, the apprentice's eyes landed on a fifth figure clad in white robes standing in their midst. "We're too late," said the newcomer, scanning the trees. Nodding the leader dismounted and motioned for the others to do the same. "What's the plan then,?" The leader asked the white robed man. "Same as before, just with an added obstacle."
"Then lead the way."
With scarcely a sound, the group followed the one who arrived not on horseback like the rest of them through the dense forest, climbing over and under massive roots covered in a thick mat of moss and ferns. Travelers never came this way; no path could be made through the impossible terrain, but for the group, the going wasn't the worst to come. They heard nothing more of the beast that had loosed the scream, but its presence was all around them, following them. "Can you feel that?" The apprentice asked his master, only to be met with a finger to the lips. Realizing his error, the student closed his mouth and nodded.
"Over here." The white-robed figure called from up ahead. When the others joined him on a small ridge, they were met with a hole roughly 50 feet across, but stretching down farther than any of them could see. "Is it...?" The apprentice questioned hesitantly.
The stranger nodded under his robe. "Sheol."
"Then we don't have a moment to lose," The Bearded man said, reaching into a bag and pulling out a pointed object that looked like a star. It was metal with four prongs and a yellow gem stone resting in its center. He handed it to the white-clad figure who's hand's began to glow with a golden light that flowed into the gemstone. Giving it a toss, the star levitated out to the center of the hole and remained stationary. "Are you ready?" The man asked the leader and his apprentice. Before they could answer, the sounds of heavy footsteps and cracking branches stole their attention. "I think it might be larger than we expected. Can you two handle this? I'll deal with the beast." The robe-wearing stranger asked. "We can handle it." The leader replied.
"Averila, Bartimaeus, stay and protect them in case I don't come back." Without another word, The strange man moved off into the darkness. Signs of the creature's presence were everywhere; large five-toed tracks, broken branches, massive scratch marks on the bark of trees. It all pointed to this being much larger than the one that hunted it. After several tense minutes of tracking, the robed man came to a small clearing. All around, the monster's presence leeched into the area. An orb of light formed in the man's hand before flying into the air, illuminated the area and casting harsh shadows at odd angles. Then, He saw the beast emerging from the trees. It was faceless with pale skin, and multiple sets of extra arms. It moved in a strange conjoining of a lizard and a serpent; slithering as much as it was walking. "Hellbeast..." He spat as he drew his sword which seemed to faintly glow in the dim lighting. The monster stopped, and waited, staring at the man in white robes with unseen eyes.
Suddenly, the monster lunged, its face splitting in half to reveal a maw of razor teeth. The fighter held up his left hand, and let loose a beam of golden light, striking the hellbeast in the face, causing it to bellow in pain and recoil from the attack. Charging forward with unnatural speed, the strange mage swung his sword at the monster's underbelly, creating a large gash that elicited another cry of pain. Enraged, the monster swiped at the man, catching him with its massive claws and batting him away. He rolled across the ground and quickly getting back to his feet. His robes began to move, shifting over his shoulders and unfurling into large, white wings. The monster roared and lumbered towards the winged figure, rearing up to crush him, but the angel dodged by flying up with a massive downbeat of his wings. With the monster's rear four legs on the ground, the hellbeast used his remaining four limbs to try and knock the silver clad figure out of the air. With a display of aerial supremacy, the angel swooped through the battery, dodging attacks from all sides.
Flying into the air, the winged man gathered an orb of Light in his hand. He flung it down at the beast. The orb streaked through the sky, and exploded upon impact, burning the beast and causing it to recoil. The fighter seized the opportunity and flew down to on the creature's back, driving the sword into its spine. The monster thrashed and attempted to throw him off, but the fighter held on. He Channeled the Light, letting it flow from his hands and down his sword. Letting out a final scream of torment, the creature collapsed to the ground, burned inside out from the Light. "Another demon falls to the Angelic Legion. May the Light burn your soul." Jumping down from husk, the angel's wings wrapped around him, shifting back into their cloth form.
When He rejoined the rest of the group, the leader and the apprentice had tendrils of Light flowing from their hands and into the Star that levitated above the pit. The golden energy seemed to swirl around the star before being focused through the gem and fired down the hole. Slowly, chunks of earth were floating back up to the surface. When they fitted into place, a golden light shone through the crack, sealing them back into place. "Looks like you are still in one piece." The man named Bartimaeus commented as the strange man returned returned. "Yes, I live for another day. But that fight could have gone poorly." Hel held up a claw from the monster. Bartimaeus let out a low whistle. "I don't think I've ever seen a Hellbeast that large."
"No, it was fully mature, normally too big to crawl out of Sheol, but when the gates are getting this large..." Bartimaeus nodded. Finally, the last chunk moved into place, and the pit was sealed. The Priests stopped channeling the Light, and the start fell to the ground, steaming in the cool night air. The robbed man walked over to fetch the star and returned it to Bartimaeus. "The Aarkin thank the Seekers for their cooperation."
"It's the least we can do. Let me know if you uncover another Gate." Shaking the winged man and the older Priest's hand, Bartimaeus and the girl named Averila started walking back towards their horses. "What now?" The Priest asked the robbed one. "I'm not sure, Isaac. Return to the tower, I have some old friends to reach out to. We need to find a way to seal Sheol again. Samael is growing stronger, somehow. If this keeps up, soon there will be nothing keeping the demons at bay."
The Priest nodded and the two Aarkin headed back to the path. Unfurling his wings, the other man took off into the night sky...
Welcome
Hello, and welcome to Yigros! I had an RP with the same name and some similar plots, but this will stand on its own (though I will pull some things that I liked from the old ones). The world of Yigros is old and full of stories of gods and demons. In these tails and legends, objects of great power came into being. Many were sealed away and lost to time only to be found by the most devoted adventurers. The Seekers were founded by those individuals devoted to finding and securing these powerful artifacts. They serve no direct allegiance to any mortal kingdom, however Queen Meleane II, ruler of Carvhail has granted the Seekers a sanctuary to operate freely.
You can either play as an already joined member of the Seekers, or someone who was attracted by the promise of coin to help them on their quests.
Rules
- I am the OP and my word is final
- No godmoding- stick to some amount of reason in fairness. Admit your character's limits and play accordingly
- Stupid actions will likely result in your character's death
- Don't make assumptions about lore, or add things without permission or asking first. I know this is largely open ended, but this rule stands regardless
- overpowered characters will not be accepted without special permission
Character Creation
Since I'm leaving this so open-ended I want to incorporate a system for determining player power to make everyone in relatively the same ballpark, as well as providing a way to scale enemy power levels. The VS Battles Wiki offers a teiring system that I think will be good for determining general power level.
Guideline for character creation
- Your characters should be roughly human in power level, but low 7-C is the absolute-limit
- Any of the classic fantasy races (Humans, elves, dwarves, and orcs) are automatically allowed, but for any other race ask me before
- Magic is rare, and does not necessarily make one more powerful than a swordsman. (more on magic will be explained later)
- We will be tracking down powerful artifacts, but your characters should not start out with powerful weapons
Application
- Code: Select all
