Place of Origin: Drumcoo by Enniskillen

- In great shape
- Able to handle his Lewis gun properly
- Incredible loyalty, doesn't question orders
- Ruthless
- Can be completely stoic in difficult situations

RP Experience: I hope that this is enough?
Personal History:
Jacob Drummond was born on a farmstead close to Enniskillen to a humble, deeply devout presbyterian farmer named James Drummond. Jacob was James's third son. Steven had three brothers and three sisters, and they all grew up helping the family on the farm. Steven's oldest brother Caleb left for America when he turned eighteen, and Steven's father became an alcoholic after his wife had to go through three miscarriages. The calvinistic faith also had a lasting impact on James Drummond's mental health, as it consistently pressured him. The absence of a father figure in Jacob's life meant that he had to become a man by himself, which he did. James's second-born son died due to tuberculosis, and Jacob had to work the fields with his younger brother so that the family didn't go completely bankrupt.

During the later thirties, especially from 1938 onward, Ulster went through a process of military buildup. Army recruitment campaigns were bolstered, and the Ulster Volunteer Forces received political power comparable to that of the first world war. Enniskillen was a town that was mostly filled with Ulster-Scots. Nearly all of the farms around the city were owned by protestants, as they had settled there hundreds of years ago. There was an Irish minority within the city, working industrial jobs. That minority was often demonised and found it difficult to come by. The Ulster Volunteer Force groups active in Enniskillen and the two regiments stationed there played into the distrust of Irish people. By dividing the populace, the UVF managed to squeeze a lot of Ulstermen into the army through propaganda. One of those men was Jacob Drummond.

Drummond joined the army in '38 when the British government increased army spending to bolster a sizeable force against the nazi regime on the other side of the channel. Drummond joined this unit, because he couldn't really go to any schools; his family could hardly sustain itself, and, although Jacob basically ran the farm, his younger brother became of age to sort out those things himself, so 17-year-old Jacob eventually entered service in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He lied about his age to try and get some action overseas, but unfortunately for him the boat to India transporting the first battalion left several months earlier. So Jacob trained with the unit in Enniskillen, until that damp September day when the Empire declared war on the Hun.

The Inniskilling Fusiliers's 2nd Battalions was moved overseas together with the British Expeditionary Force. Jacob and his unit arrived in Thionville in Alsace on the 12th of October, where Jacob quietly settled until he volunteered to join the 1SAG. Jacob's "George Coy." frequently received orders to man the frontier with Germany, in which anything rarely happened, aside from Axis/Allied planes flying over the defensive positions to inspect the quality of the defences. Jacob met a girl in Thionville and he wanted to bring her back to Northern Ireland, but the war rolled on and newspapers told the tale of Polish forces being slaughtered in Tuchola, Lwów and Warsaw. Every third soldier bringing a French girl with him wasn't going to be a great plan to high command.

Jacob joined the army to see action, and received minor commendations from his NCOs and platoon leader because of his weapon handling ability and charisma. He got the opportunity to join the 1. SAG, and immediately jumped at it, as he was thirsty for combat.

Name: Edward Arkwright
Date of Birth: 10th of May, 1919 (21 years old)
Rank: Lance Corporal
Parent Branch/Unit: Royal Marines
Physical Description/Picture:
Image

Place of Origin: Aston, Oxfordshire.
Combat Experience: None.
Specialities and Skills: Edward displays excellent marksmanship, a reminder of his hunting trips, and is rather good at throwing things, mainly grenades. He has adequate hand-to-hand combat skills, and is comfortable carrying heavy loads.
Weapons of Choice: Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield Mk. III * (100 rounds in charger clips)
Webley-Fosbery .38 8-shot Automatic Revolver (32 rounds in clips, a heirloom brought from home)
2 No. 36M Mills Bomb grenades
3 No. 69 Defensive grenades
RP Experience: Fractured
It's quite short, but most RPs I participated in faded rather quickly.
Personal History: Edward Arkwright was born in a rural section of Oxfordshire to a relatively wealthy veteran of the Great War. He enjoyed a good education, living in what could be considered as the rural England idealised by the writers of the time. Arkwright went hunting with his family, attended church on Sundays, and aided in his father's work. The young man was fascinated by politics and mechanics, perhaps due to his father's tales of the conflict and the brewing tensions in the continent.

These interests slowly dragged Edward away from his sheltered world and his studies, which he began to see as boring, bland. When Poland was invaded, Arkwright was one of the many men who strolled over to the recruiting office despite their father's experiences in France. During training, he was seen as a promising soldier, and was assigned to the unit. For Edward, this was the golden ticket: the earlier he sees action, the better.

Cheers.

Had a read through the RP examples you gave and I'm gonna have to say sorry, I don't feel you're up to the standard I expect. I suggest approaching one of the RP Mentors abd maybe try again in a few months times if this is still going.

Name: James Cook
Date of Birth: 3/9/13
Rank: Sub-Lieutenant
Parent Branch/Unit (ie Army, Royal Engineers, etc): Royal Navy
Physical Description/Picture: TBD
Place of Origin: Thame, Oxfordshire
Combat Experience: Four years of ship board service, has seen combat in the Middle East.
Specialities and Skills: Experienced sailor, decent shot.
Weapons of Choice: Large calibre naval guns. But also handy with a rifle.
RP Experience: Excalibur
Personal History:

Sub-Lieutenant James Cook is a 26 year old officer, commissioned into the regular Royal Navy. Born to a family of gentleman farmers, with no naval tradition, Cook's parents dreamt of bigger and better things for their only son. He performed well at school, particularly in the sciences, and achieved the grades to attend Oxford University. Here he spent two years, studying medicine, and earning a double blue in rowing and cricket. In 1936, it seemed that James Cook was rapidly progressing down the path that his parents had always dreamt of.

However, the young man grew restless. With a desire for adventure and a yearning to see the world, he grew resentful of life at Oxford and of those who, it seemed, were living vicariously through him. Without consulting family or friends, Cook withdrew from Oxford without completing his degree and enrolled that same day in the Royal Navy. To say that his parents were not best pleased would be an understatement. The decision fell particularly hard on his father, who had been a conscientious objector during the Great War, and still held to pacifist ideals. However, the youngest member of the Cook family was not to be put off, and was eventually commissioned a Sub-Lieutenant and posted to the Mediterranean Fleet.

His first, and to date, only posting was to the venerable HMS Warspite - the Grand Old Lady of the fleet. Serving as a member of Admiral Dudley Pound's staff, Cook spent an uneventful year and a half aboard Warspite as she conducted Aegean, Adriatic and Mediterranean seas. In 1939, Admiral Pound was replaced by Vice Admiral Cunningham. Pound was bound for the Admiralty, to serve as First Sea Lord, and Cook was slated to transfer to the Royal Navy signals school. He envisaged a return to sea 18 months hence, as a full Lieutenant with the coveted (S) rating - a sure start towards climbing the ladder to flag rank. However, this meteoric rise was put on hold when, whilst on leave, he found himself in Palestine. During this time he became caught up with a platoon of the Gwentshire Rifles and participated in a skirmish action between that platoon and local rebels. During this action, Sub-Lieutenant Cook acquitted himself notably under fire and was lightly wounded in the face of the enemy.

His recovery from wounds received meant a delay in transferring to signals school but opened up a new avenue of possibility. War was declared, and a shady new group was being formed and one that the Navy did not wish to be left out of. It was quietly asked if Cook might not wish to volunteer for this new initiative. It was an offer he did not have to think long about. Now, Cook finds himself at sea again - but this time transiting to the South Atlantic and an uncertain future.

Name: Daniel Rosenberg
Date of Birth: 13/2/1917
Rank: Corporal
Parent Branch/Unit (ie Army, Royal Engineers, etc): British Army
Physical Description/Picture:
Image

Granted the person in the picture (Benjamin Meirtchak for those wondering) was actually a Polish officer instead of a British soldier, I couldn't find any other pictures that I thought would suit what I had in mind for my guy.

Place of Origin: Salford, England
Combat Experience: He spent two years in India with the Army and six months in Spain fighting for the Republicans.
Specialities and Skills: He is an excellent sniper, having racked up 23 confirmed kills in Spain and 10 in India, a good cricketer and boxer and he can speak a couple of different languages, namely Hebrew and German.
Weapons of Choice: Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I which he had modified to work as a sniper rifle, Webley Mk IV revolver and a switchblade.
RP Experience: If you're talking about my RPing experience, as in how long I've been doing roleplays, then I've been doing them off and on for a few years. Ignoring any nation-related stuff (as in WorldVision, NS Sports and the like), I've been in two incarnations of Blake Holsey High and I'm currently in Road Trip 2038, which kind of doubles as my first combat-based RP.
Personal History: Daniel Jonathan Rosenberg was born in the Broughton area of Salford, England on 13th February, 1917. Born into a relatively middle-class Jewish family, he was the third child (and eldest son) of Jacob and Rebecca Rosenberg, a tailor (and former RFC gunner during the war) and a stay-at-home mum respectively. Growing up, he had a fairly alright childhood, although he did receive a fair amount of discrimination based on his religion and his height, which was 5'4" by the time he was 18, making him shorter than both of his older sisters and his younger brother Simon. Although he did get into trouble a fair amount due to the fights he caused as a result, as he got older he found a way to channel by taking up boxing and cricket, although he still found his way into a fight every now and then.

In his late teens, he started to take the looming threat of fascism seriously. Although he had not paid that much attention or even cared about it when the British Union of Fascists was first formed, he would soon get involved with anti-fascism around the same time a couple of his friends joined various socialist movements but also around the same time the BUF turned antisemitic. Doing his bit by breaking up meetings and the odd street fight (although he bought a switchblade around this time, he fortunately never used it), it eventually got to the point where, while he was in London to visit relatives in the East End in October 1936, he took part in what would become the Battle of Cable Street, a clash between the Blackshirts, the Met Police officers sent to supervise them and a group of anti-fascists who outnumbered both the previous groups combined; he'd also claim that there he punched a Blackshirt so hard in the face he broke a bone in one of his fingers which wasn't exactly true as, though he did punch a BUF member in the face that day, he merely bruised said finger instead of breaking it.

In January the following year, he and a couple of his friends headed over to Spain to fight in the Spanish Civil War, helping out the Republican side as part of the British Battalion of the XV International Brigade. While Daniel doesn't actually have any strong feelings one way or the other about socialism or Communism, he still figured he might as well do his part in fighting fascism over in Spain. It was there where he got into becoming a sniper, having volunteered to do it as he didn't want to be up close and personal all the time. Although he started off shaky, either missing or wounding enemies, he soon got into the swing of things and grabbed his first confirmed kill in mid-February when he took down a Nationalist soldier during the battle of Jarama, followed by four more during that very same day. He would get thirteen more kills during that battle, followed by nine more during the intervening months before a combination of homesickness and a shot in the lower chest from a countersniper took him out of action and forced him to go home in early July 1937.

Two months after returning home, the injury healed and he decided to join the army, mostly to see if he can show off his skills but also because he wanted to officially serve his country. Although there were some concerns about his height from friends and family members, he was accepted anyway as part of the Lancashire Fusiliers. After completing his basic training, which he did anyway despite him feeling that there was no need for him to do it, he was shipped off to India as part of the 1st Battalion and was stationed in the Northwest Frontier to help calm things down up in Waziristan. At first he did basic line infantry stuff or stayed at the garrison but there were moments where he was given his time to shine. The first moment came in January 1938, where he grabbed his first confirmed kill as a British army sniper when he took out a small group of tribesmen (7 of his 10 confirmed kills in the area) before they could launch an attack on a group of RAF members about to do a mission; this course of action would see him get promoted to Lance Corporal. He would get a few more kills on and off during the intervening years and would finish his stint in Waziristan as a Corporal, having been promoted in June 1939 even though there wasn't really that much action that year.

In September 1939, shortly after Britain declared war on Germany, he was transferred over to the 2nd Battalion and sent back home to England. While it was nice for him to return to his homeland as well as have the option of fighting the Nazis, this was shortlived as he was sent over to Europe the following month as part of the 11th Infantry Brigade. However, he didn't see much action with them as he would get transferred over to 1 SAG in late October, a move he felt was best for him as he figured his sniping skills would work better alongside the company's guerrilla tactics. That and, like everyone else, he figured the sooner he got to see some action the better.

Hopefully this should be alright with you. While I'm more than happy to change certain details, namely his height and confirmed kills, or even add some things you think were missing I would still like him to be a sniper and, as strange as this sounds, I'd still like him to be short. Fortunately, he has no medical issues or anything like that other than seasickness, he's just small.

Thanks. Besides, I was a little bit worried that he wouldn't be accepted for one reason or another but that could just be me worrying too much. I should get a post up later today, if not tomorrow.

Any chance you'd agree to host an unofficial US Army SIS, within the group?

Perhaps if you can come up with a good enough backstory.

Another possible route for an American character is via the French Foreign Legion.
