The Fading Light of V'landriel OOC (Closed)

Postby Cheylabinsk » Sun Nov 04, 2018 4:30 pm

Hi, this is the first I've actually posted on these forums, but I've got some RPing experience under my belt and wanted to find some more active RPers to write with. This idea is still under development, so I'm fully open to any suggestions or comments!

A long time ago, a golden age prevailed in the world of V’landriel. Adventurers traveled across the realms, and from them arose great heroes. Mighty and ancient races clashed on the battlefield, elves and dwarves, humans and orcs, halflings and ogres alike. Brotherhoods were forged, and many quests for the destiny of kings and peoples were undertaken. All who lived in this time knew it was an age of glory. Honour was found in arms and service as knights, in wizardry and mastery of powerful magicks, in communion with nature and spirits. Many names reside still in the books of lore of the great and mighty.

When a golden age such as that passes, when its luster begins to fade, how does the world move on? What, indeed, is the bravery of heroes worth in an age where it is set against the swift, cold, and merciless delivery of mechanized death?

Greetings and welcome to the world of V’landriel, your stereotypical generic high fantasy setting… taken seven hundred years in the future, taken to new limits and extremes, and taken to a grim, dark mockery of what it once resembled. Most of the known world is ruled by the Imperial Yllendyr Sovereignty, a jingoist, nationalist dark elf empire which has enslaved millions of individuals belonging to other, “inferior” races, with the remaining parts embattled in futile resistance. Can your race rekindle the dying light of a world descending inevitably into dystopia, or shape a new world which beckons from beyond the waves?

In this NRP, you will take the role of either a subject nation of the Yllendyr or a colonial nation in this world’s equivalent of the Americas. A major crisis within the Sovereignty will result within the first few posts of the RP, which will lead to the independence of most subject peoples, and you will supervise their transition to becoming a fully fledged nation on the world stage. The Old World is in a technological state equivalent to around 1900, and the New at a maximum of around 1750, though you’re free to play a stone age tribe if you wish. As the RP grows, I’ll likely add the option to play groups or individuals for those that are interested in that sort of storytelling.

Note for Magic: This RP uses a unique magic system whereby instead of the four classical elements, each mage is specialized in a state of matter or being. There are five of these:

Solid
Liquid
Gas
Plasma
Mind

Mages of each type can only manipulate the physical world in that state, by interfacing with a metaphysical plane on which only that matter exists. For our purposes although it isn’t technically accurate, fire counts as plasma and plasma mages are able to manipulate it. Finally, mind mages are able to perform feats such as telepathy and vision through and control of animals and low-intelligence sentient beings such as goblins, etc. Each species will have an alignment towards one of the five elements, and you are allowed to choose this on your nation sheet. A more detailed explanation will be forthcoming as the RP approaches time for the initial posts to go out, and of course I can answer any questions you might have.

If you've read this far, I greatly appreciate it and hope you'll sign up for this RP and help to build a very unique fantasy world!

I'm also planning on using a Discord for this, if you let me know if you're interested I can message you the link.

Oh, thanks a lot! That's super useful. What exactly do you mean by roster, like a roster of players?

I should probably throw a set of rules on there too now that I think about it. It'll just be general stuff, no powerplaying, etc.

I'll also put out that I could use a Co-OP or Co-GM at some point, as while I have a lot of experience nation RPing, I have less so being a moderator.

Unsure what to put for religious beliefs. I don't think it would make sense for every nation to have a separate pantheon, but I don't know of any to begin with. Do Yllendyr beliefs predominate in any of their subject states? If so, what are they?

The Yllendyr are athiest, so that wouldn't really impact much, though they do have a lot of traditions emphasizing respect for nature. I'm also planning on having a cult of Yllendyr who worship the moon as a goddess, but those will be a minority.

By the way, this RP originated on discord, so a few people only have their nation sheets there. You can take a look if you want more examples.

Here is mine as an example.

Nation Name: The Imperial Yllendyr Sovereignty (commonly called the Imperium)

Flag:
Image

Type of Government: Absolute Monarchy

Head(s) of Government: Emperor Naerzo Lunastri (age 162)

Economy (Main imports, exports, industries, technology level, etc.): The economy of the Yllendyr is primarily based still around a guild/artisan system, though industrialization has become increasingly common for mass market, low-level consumer goods. Magic is particularly integrated into the guild system, and most guilds have a large number of experienced enchanters to increase the quality, durability and usefulness of items like luxury goods, weaponry and armour, and clothing. The elite of Yllendyr society typically shun mass-produced, industrial goods in favour of these artisans. Primary exports are these luxury goods, books and other literature, magical items and potions, coal, silver and grain. Primary imports are many types of machinery and components such as steel and cement.

Primary Species: Yllendyr (dark elves)

Population: 147 million (112 million Yllendyr, 35 million various other races)

Culture: The Yllendyr culture emphasizes four main aspects: love of nature, love of magic, love of fellow Yllendyr, and the demonization and belittling of all that is foreign or destructive to those ideas. Aside from other elves which they treat with more respect, the Yllendyr are harshly elitist and discriminatory to other races, believing it as their natural right to hold dominion over them. As a result, martial culture is deeply ingrained in Yllendyr society, and major noble families compete over spots in the leadership of the Sentinels, the most prestigious of those institutions.

Religious and Other Beliefs: The Yllendyr are generally athiest, but they have a deep respect for the natural world, and believe that the spirits of their ancestors still inhabit the forests. They take care to offer thanks to their ancestors for every tree they chop down, and are cautious in this to avoid removing too many. There is also a minority religion centered around moon worship, the Disciples of Luna.

Location/Territories: Northeastern peninsula on the largest continent in the old world, also has a colony just beginning to become developed on a part of the new world closest to their continent.

Climate: Primarily temperate with some cooler regions to the south, forested with sparse grasslands.

Military: The Yllendyr Imperium maintains three general army divisions: first, the Imperial Sentinels, second, the Imperial Army, and thirdly, the Imperial Navy. The Imperial Sentinels are strictly Yllendyr-only, and typically three legions (20,000 men each) are stationed in each constituent nation of the Imperium. They are highly disciplined and highly equipped, with the finest rifles, armour and sabres made with care by the Armament Guild. The Imperial Army is much larger and widely varied, and the vast majority of each auxiliary legion (auxilia for short, 50,000 men each) is composed of subject peoples. A strict rule is in place which prohibits more than 20% of a legion in a constituent nation from being citizens of that nation, to cut down on potential rebelliousness. Each legion regardless typically consists of infantry, cavalry, and a dedicated artillery team which recently also includes machine gunners. High leadership for the Army is exclusively elf (meaning other elven citizens besides dark elves are allowed) but many officers come from subject peoples and are extensively rewarded for their loyalty. Finally, the Imperial Navy is the pride of the Yllendyr, boasting over two hundred of mostly ironclad ships armed with cannons and flamethrowers of varying sizes and classes.

Magic Prevalence/Usage: Near universal, but mostly used for cultural and economic purposes rather than as a tool of war. Liquid alignment.

History/Background Info: To be added

Corrupt Dictatorship

Postby Union Princes » Mon Nov 05, 2018 3:29 pm

Nation Name: Kitagawa Shogunate
Flag:
Image

Type of Government: Absolute Monarchy
Head(s) of Government: Shogun Emperor Toshiko Kitagawa
Economy: Heavily industrialized with access to coal and iron ore deposits, Still exports agricultural products such as tea, incense, and rice.
Primary Species: Humans
Population: 88.7 million citizens
Culture: Split between three branches: Honor, Loyalty, and Duty. Easy to please and quick to anger, the inhabitants, called the Yamato, in civil life are raised on a code of conduct on justice and wisdom based on class. Inevitably, Yamato are very disdainful of the Yllendyr ever since they executed Emperor Toshiko's grandfather. Social classes, from highest to lowest, is split between the Shogun, Kazoku (comprised of the Daimyo), Samurai, Merchant and middle class, and farmers and lower class workers. Due to Kitagawa society heavily militarized, a Yamato male is expected to serve at least 2 years in the military when he reaches 18 years of adulthood. Yamato are very respectful of another race's culture since they expect the same level of treatment back. Only the Yllendyr are the only exceptions of this etiquette.
Religious and Other Beliefs: Traditional Yamato religion, Kami-no-michi, is the worship of ancestors and nature spirits and the belief in sacred power in both animate and inanimate things. Under Kami-no-michi, the Shogun Emperor is revered as a descendant of the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu-omikami. This is why Yamato was utterly shocked when the Dark Elves executed the Shogun Emperor after he surrendered. This is the official religion of the Shogunate.
Location/Territories:
The territory I want is North of this guy's territory (Brown Color), preferably touching his northern border. So Almost looks like Brazil but without the South Region of it
Image

Climate: Has all four seasons with mild, temperate weather. Lots of hills and mountains with plenty of plains, marshes, and natural harbors around the coastline. There are forests present but not very dominate of the region.
Military: Even though its still traditional where the Daimyo and the Samurai are officers and generals of the Shogunate Military, promotion through the ranks are becoming more based on merit rather than lineage but this is more apparent on a company and battalion level. Even though the Shogunate military is not as elite as the Yllendyr, it makes up for it through its sheer Fanaticism and undying loyalty to the Emperor and the Shogunate. This would lead to extremely dumb but exceedingly brave Kamikaze soldiers and sailors.
Magic Prevalence/Usage and Elemental Alignment: Seen primarily as a tool in civic society mainly used by exorcists to weed out demons. Occasionally, magic would be use in combat but only if deemed necessary.
History/Background Info: Prior to the Kitagawa Shogunate, the territory was ruled by warring factions of Daimyo and Samurai that fought petty feuds and civil wars over the centuries. Even though a Shogunate was proclaimed, it was quickly split apart after a Shogun's death. It wasn't until the Dark Elves arrive when the Yamato Warlords band together and formed a Shogunate to drive them out. Due to the Dark Elves's superior technology and tactics, the newly-formed Shogunate was defeated in every battle and the subjugation ended with the Shogun Emperor executed and his son taking his place as a puppet ruler to the Yllendyr. Despite the humiliating defeat and the outrageous treatment of previous Shogun, the Shogunate quickly adopted technology from the Dark Elf overlords at the cost of its pride and ethnic treatment. So vicious was the anger towards the Dark Elves that numerous uprisings occurred, especially the Samurai class, under the guise of restoring national pride. The revolts were crushed but the perpetrators were secretly pardoned and lightly punished due to the fact that everybody despised the Yllendyr for their treatment of the Yamato people.

Nation Name: The Qallupilluit
Flag: N/A
Type of Government: Theocracy: Under normal circumstances, the Qallupilluit live in disunited nomadic tribes, which are each no larger than a few related families, and have no formal leadership. However, the older members of the tribe, and each tribe's shaman, have some informal authority. Shamans choose their successors from the most magically-gifted members of their tribe, but generally will pick one of their own daughters. Shamans are tasked with performing protective and medical magic, scouting the waters above, performing rituals over scavenged bones, settling disputes and enforcing laws, and preserving the tribe's oral history.

During a Godfall, the shamans of all the gathered tribes elect one of their own as a "High Shaman", to lead the tribes and perform necessary rituals. The High Shaman thanks the Leviathan for its sacrifice, purifies its soul, and begs the Sea-Mother for more blessings. She also officially declares the beginning and end of the Godfall, and commands the collective military of the Qallupilluit if war becomes necessary.
Head(s) of Government: High Shaman Mithna Green-Teeth
Economy: Under normal circumstances, the Qallupilluit are semi-nomadic scavenger-gatherers, who primarily consume marine snow and animal bones that have fallen to the bottom of the abyssal plain. They also practice animal husbandry, raising dark hoppers, (Horse-sized transparent crustaceans that resemble fleas, used for transportation.) yeti shrimp, (Cow-sized pale white shrimp with yellow-brown setae, raised for their bones and skin.) and scissor worms. (Massive pale white worms with heads the size of small houses, which resemble Bobbit worms and are ridden in battle.) Some tribes also engage in limited trade with non-hostile surface-dwellers, exporting unique jewelry and animal parts that can only be found at the bottom of the sea, and importing industrially-produced goods such as metal weaponry.

Qallupilluit society changes drastically during events known as "Godfalls". Leviathans are rare creatures resembling whales with turtle-like shells, but are several kilometers long when fully grown. Leviathans who are near death instinctively migrate the northern waters inhabited by the Qallupilluit, where their corpses fall to the bottom of the sea. This signals the beginning of a "Godfall". During a Godfall, all the creatures of the seafloor congregate around the Leviathan's corpse, to feed off of it, or to eat the other creatures that have flocked to it. The Qallupilluit are no different, and their population experiences significant growth during a Godfall. The Qallupilluit consume the Leviathan's bones, as well as the bones of other scavengers. Eventually, the Godfall's High Shaman will decide when the corpse is entirely used up, and the tribes will disperse, returning to their previous manner of existence. Godfalls generally occur about once every 150 years, and a single Leviathan corpse can sustain the Qallupilluit for up to 80 years. Very rarely, a second Leviathan will fall to the seafloor during an already ongoing Godfall. This event is known as a "Twinfall", and is considered an extremely good omen.
Primary Species:
Image

The Qallupilluit, known by most surface-dwellers as "Fish-Hags", are an aquatic species of scavengers that live at the bottom of the seafloor. Qallupilluit resemble human women with pale skin and black hair, but their skin has a green tinge to it, their eyes and blood are entirely black, they lack noses, they have radial mouths resembling a lamprey's, and their digits are long and webbed for rapidly moving through the water. What appears to be "hair" growing from the back of their heads are actually thin feathery setae, which look black due to the black blood passing through them. The Qallupilluit use these setae to filter oxygen from the surrounding water or air, and will suffocate if they are severed.

Qallupilluit live in symbiosis with a virus that has infected their entire population. This virus makes the Qallupilluit unable to consume anything but bone, but allows them to see even in the lightless depths they inhabit, renders them immune to other diseases, allows them to survive on land for extended periods, and makes their blood extremely toxic to non-Qallupilluit. Qallupilluit are able to vomit up their toxic blood as an attack.

Qallupilluit begin life as millimeter-long non-sapient larvae, birthed in large numbers. Female larvae will eventually develop into fully-grown Qallupilluit, but male larvae remain larvae. Adult females consume large numbers of male larvae to induce reproduction.
Population: 50,000
Culture:
Religious and Other Beliefs:
Location/Territories: https://i.imgur.com/oh55KG6.jpg The territory usually inhabited by the Qallupilluit tribes is denoted by the black line. The 67th and 68th Godfalls are respectively marked by the green star and the red star.
Climate: Underwater
Military:
Magic Prevalence/Usage and Elemental Alignment: Unsurprisingly, the Qallupilluit have a strong affinity for the Liquid element, and are skilled manipulators of water and blood.
