October 1st, 1947

Wuhan, the seat of power in China was bustling with activity. Men and women walked in and out of buildings, most native Chinese with the few foreigners sticking out like sore thumbs in the crowd. The matters of this city were not their concern, and most of them were probably aiding reconstruction efforts at Shanghai or Beijing. These matters, that are greatly affecting the native citzenry were political in nature. For starting from today, it would be election season. It was on December 29th, 1911, Sun Wen, Father of the Nation, would be elected as President by the Nanjing Assembly, and only two days later, be inaugurated as China's First President. December as such seemed like a fitting time to hold the elections, and the two months before it be used for campaigning purposes. As of now, several political parties put forth their choices for presidential candidate, but only 2 had enough supporters to really matter (kinda like America). These were the same two parties that, under decree of the mighty Soviet Union, cooperate in their efforts to unite China. The first of these two would be the Kuomintang, or KMT for short. Having been the ruling party for a majority of the Republic's history, and even surviving a split in the party upon Sun's death, the KMT held a reliable supporter base in heavily populated regions like Shanghai and their seat of power, Wuhan. Their candidate, Wang Jingwei, the current president of China, originally refused to run for a second term as president, but was pressured by the appearance of the second party, the Communist Party of China, or CCP for short. the CCP had its roots in the May 4th Movement, where several thousand Chinese protested China's betrayal at the hands of the victorious Entente, in the form of the 21 Demands, the Versailles Treaty, and the transfer of Chinese soil to Japan. Some of these protesters would find solace in Marxist ideals, and eventually create the CPC. Unlike the KMT, who had its supporters in heavily populated areas, the CPC drew its power from the droves of men and women living in rural conditions, who found themselves harmonious with the CPC's socialist promises. Their candidate would be Mao Zedong, or as they advertised it, the 'Soldier Candidate,' for his tactical prowess proved useful in kicking out the Japanese. The climate was tense, as these political positions were polarized by the ideological conflict between the Soviets and the US.

OOC:In this Nations history, India got independence from the UK in 1939.

Bharitya Commune, October 2nd, 1947

India got independence from the United Kingdom in 1939. However, India quickly descended into chaos. After bloody civil war, in 1940, the Marxist-Leninist militia compromised with the nationalists to form the Bharitya Commune. It would be democratic and the All-Hindu Assembly was legal. Now, the commune stands tall as it undergoes rapid industrialization.

M.N. Roy sits in his office. He is Chief Minister of the Commune. However, there is doubt he will hold that position for long. The AHA is rising in popularity, and the elections are in 2 weeks. He ponders where the Commune will be in the cold war after the elections.
October 16th, 1947

The People have spoken! The AHA succeeds in securing a victory. V. D. Savarkar is the Chief Minister and Subhas Chandra Bose will be the Prime Minister/Commander in Chief. With the elections finished, the AHA gets to work. They order a full mobilization of the army.

Hôtel de Brienne, Paris
07:00 AM, 1er Octobre 1947

A cold morning rose over a surreal Paris. Its bombed out ruins and crumbling walls rotted amongst old palaces and apartments from the last century, blurred together by a sea of fog and a coat of snow. From his brightly painted guard post, a lone sentry wrapped in thick cloth tried to pierce the clouds that surrounded him and his little island: the entry to the Ministry of War.
The deafening quiet of the morning was interrupted as two headlights pierced the air. A black Citroen emerged from the ground-level clouds, filled with familiar faces and followed by another. He approached the vehicle and tapped on the window.

"Mon général !" he began, saluting. His breath condensated as he spoke. "Vos papiers, s'il vous plaît. Ce n'est qu'une simple précaution."

The illustrious driver complied and handed over a few documents. Typically, hugh ranking officers had chauffeurs, but the manpower and money were needed elsewhere, and nowadays five rode in simple cars like a family. Along a cold and sharp wind, paranoia blew over a weakened France like the cursed Aquilon. The country was still recovering from several years of occupation and months of fighting. Though the damage was comparatively light, her once great armies now lay in disarray, and would not be able to withstand a blow from the Soviet Union, who many were sure would come.
All the documents were legitimate, and so the black cars continued into the court. Their occupants excited and walked through the white flakes into the warmer interior of the Hôtel de Brienne.

~

"All is quiet in Algeria," began Henri Teitgen as he settled down, "And the new Indochinese government is cooperating. The rest of our provinces have been brought back under our fold. The First Army has moved in to secure our portion of occupied Germany, the Soviets seem to be calm for now though we are getting worried reports about their developments in weapons technology..."

The Ministry of War was still in disarray after the end of the war. Bound by a low budget, it nevertheless had to keep the peace over perhaps the largest empire in existence. Their few recovering armies had been deployed in a rush to secure their land. Its new minister, Pierre Henri Teitgen, was still being brought up to speed, though he was as competent as one could be. Procurement letters were sent, reports were filed and meetings like the one being held were being conducted nonstop. The ringing of the typewriter had been as constant as the chatter of the machine gun in the proving ground.

Imperial Federation of Northern Mexico
Federación Imperial del Norte de México

It started in 1924 when the Frente Popular de la Gente (Peoples Popular Front) won the 1924 general Mexican elections and shortly after began several reforms. No one is exactly sure how, but a gentleman by the name of Leon Trotsky began stirring up riots, and workers strikes in Mexico City, and the surrounding area. After a protest boiled over into a massacre by the police the strikes, and riots became a full-on revolution leading to the "March on Mexico City". The President called in the military to handle it only for them to blunder it, and be forced out of the capital, and the surrounding area. The Comuna Unida de México (United Commune of Mexico) was declared in the early morning of January 7th, 1925, and Leon Trotsky served as an advisor to its leading body the Comité de Seguridad, Revolución y Acción del proletariado (Committee of Proletariat Security, Revolution, and Action).

The early stages of the civil war were mostly between militias loyal to the president, and militias loyal to the commune due to the military fracturing on all levels. Communard revolutionaries in the Navy seized the state of Veracruz while a military triumvirate in the south deemed the president's government unfit to lead. Eventually, the president himself was killed in an attempt to flee to the loyalist holdouts north. The
Gobierno de transición del norte de México (Transitional Government of Northern Mexico) was established to counter the southern pretenders and lay claim to being the legitimate state of Mexico. From 1925 to 1927 the transitional government held the line, and nearly managed to take Mexico City, but ultimately failed.

The southern oligarchy itself had a few successes as well but eventually began to lose ground with one of the generals being killed in the battle of Manzanillo, Colima. Seeing the end coming one of the two generals decided to defect to the Central American Federation leaving the last general in charge of a few hundred thousand men. In a suicidal rush at the battle of Puebla, this general made a famous last stand and was killed leading his men into battle. The northern government had been practically split into three enclaves by late 1928 until an American veteran leading a few thousand veterans of the great war came into the conflict in early 1929. In a rush to glory, this veteran had a bit of a "going native" moment as he ventured across war-torn Northern Mexico.

He converted to Catholicism and married the daughter of a local rancher back in Sonora coming to eventually play a vital role in the leadership of the northern government. In what is known as the Compact of Durango Jack made an agreement with reactionaries, ranchers, aristocrats, and highly influential Mexican Mormons to take control of the government through a bloodless coup. Several U.S congressman, some in the American military, and some companies supported the move thus making the transition easier. Instead of simply being a military dictator/warlord like some had wanted he instead lead the charge. The Proclamation of Independence (October 1929) had the world see an unusual development as the northern government become the government of a new nation instead of a mere contender in a civil war.

Taking notes from history he with the backing of several prestigious families, ranchers, and other prominent reactionary leaders decided to don a crown and declare the new nation an empire. The U.S didn't know what to make of the situation initially since some thought their American appointee was going power hungry or mad. Regardless his military prowess aided in his legitimacy especially when the navy of northern Mexico sank the communard fleet in Veracruz, and marched on Mexico City in 1931. This was after defeating three communard waves to seize the capital at Guadalaraja the previous year. Instead of simply forcing unconditional surrender of the southern communards he allowed them to have peace albeit with the awareness they no longer had control over Northern Mexico.

It has been 18 years since the proclamation of the empire with his chant of "Soy uno de ustedes, un mexicano del norte." (I am one of you, a fellow northern Mexican). It has been sixteen years since the triumphant peace, and now after another world war, an entire generation has grown up under this emperor, and his empire. Crowds gathered in the capital as people shouted: "viva el norte de México" waiting on the aging emperor to make another public appearance. They would have to wait as both the Emperor and his bodyguards were currently in the Guadalajara Cathedral for the emperor's daily prayers. The emperor as he aged became increasingly more religious, and weary of the fact the world was slowly setting itself up for yet another world war.

OOC - I'm changing some insignificant stuff from my app around to make it better

Image

Québec City, Québec
October 3rd, 1947

Sarah Koslova walked into her new office. Being Supreme Chairwoman was new, but she had experience with leadership before - joining the military the second she was allowed to, after the revolution in 1936, she quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a Major, and saw the worst of the Second World War - and the moment it ended, she ran for office.

She sat down at her desk, opening it and pulling out her files. Her predecessors had, for eleven years, toed the line between America and the Soviet Union - even fighting on the Eastern and Western fronts in Europe, as well as supporting the Chinese in the Pacific Front and pushing the Axis out of North Africa. This was necessary at the time, to ensure that their fledgling nation, weak at the time, was not interfered with. No longer.

Canada had a twentieth of the population of the Soviet Union or America, but was the most resource-rich country in the world. In the next world war, they would be a battleground.

Already, Sarah had plans for militarization. Weapons manufacturing, science, technology development and infrastructure would all be taken over by the military so as to turn Canada into a veritable fortress. Airbases and forts were already being constructed in the Yukon, near Alaska, and all across the Southern Border. The arctic was being secured, and the entire military being massively increased in size and quality.

Stalin had been invited to do a tour of Toronto, Québec, Montreal, and then all the way up to Banff, Jasper, Vancouver, and Victoria, before inspecting the new militarization of the far North. Letters had been sent to Kim Il-Sung, Mao Zedong, and Wilhelm Pieck upon Sarah's election victory.

Canada would no longer be a great power - they would be a superpower. The world would bow to Socialism, spearheaded by Canada. The world would come to know true equality, and they would welcome it with open arms.

October 4th 1947
Currently the US was busy. It was supporting the Kingdom of Greece in their civil war against the communist Provisional Democratic Government of Greece. It was also dealing with having the Communist at their doorstep in Canada. While an invasion from Canada alone was laughable they were no where near as powerful as the US and her allies if the Soviets send troops there they could invade the US from the north or Alaska. To counter any attack 4 US divisions would be deployed on the main US-Canadian border to defend against any potential assaults there while another three US divisions would be sent to Alaska to defend against any Canadian attack.

The US would not bow down to the tyranny of Communism just like how they did not bow down to Fascism.

Chinese elections were in full swing. The ordeal was going to be tough. Both major parties needed to reach the 550 million Chinese that lived between the frosty Soviet-Manchu border and the mountainous wall that is the Himalayas. In truth, anything concerning China's population would be an ordeal. The census of '46 required men and women to trek from the far reaches of China to Wuhan in order to register their names, and still they only reached an approximation. This time, it would be the government trekking to them.

In a small rural village down Southwest, not too far from the Indochinese border, the CPC was making one of its many campaign tours across China. Trucks would unload flyers and speeches along multiple locations in this cross-country trip. 'Elect the CPC! With a candidate that braved the Japanese!' said the campaigning politicians as they stepped out of the truck to greet the locals. The villagers promptly surrounded the vehicle, watching as it unloaded batches of flyers and a sack or two of rice. The CPC after all was the party of the peasantry.

OOC: Nothing, just an update on the electoral season.

London, Great Britain
5 October 1947

For Winston Churchill, he was well within his second term. Despite a large push by the Labour ministers in Parliament to break from the wartime coalition and put one of their own in the position of Prime Minister, the population of Great Britain felt very passionate about Winston Churchill remaining their leader after successfully steering them through the war against Germany. So, when Winston Churchill won re-election, it shocked the Labour Party's leaders, who thought they were going to be the clear winners.

Now, two years after that election, a lot had happened. In this year alone, on the 4th of March, Great Britain and France signed the Treaty of Dunkirk. Both nations still fear that - in the future - Germany may once again, for a third time, spark a world war. If such a war were to break out, Great Britain and France would be strong allies defending each other against German attack. If Germany - or any other nation for that matter - declares war on France or Great Britain, the other partner in the Treaty of Dunkirk will join the war on behalf of their ally. Churchill felt great about continuing to have strong relations and alliances with the French. The two nations did maintain hold on very sizable empires and they had the resources to mutually benefit and aid each other in times of war.

Restrictions on foreign travel, which had been established during the war, were revoked in the Summer and the nation rejoiced at being able to travel freely without restrictions by the government. Princess Elizabeth announced her engagement to Lt. Philip Mountbatten in July and, again, the nation and the empire celebrated the happy occasion.

The worst cases of the year however, have been from Mandatory Palestine. British army involvement in Mandatory Palestine have increased as the British seek to assist the Palestinians in maintaining order. In late July, British forces had apprehended three militants belonging to the Jewish underground group, Irgun. The three had been sentenced to death. Irgun, in return, captured two British army officers and threatened to hang them if the three militants were executed. Both Winston Churchill and the leaders of Mandatory Palestine condemned Irgun for their actions. The execution went on as planned and Irgun announced the two officers had been killed. In response, Palestinian police officers and British troops in Tel Aviv opened fire on a crowd of Jewish citizens; five were killed and others injured.

In early August, the killing of the two British army officers sparked anti-Jewish riots across northern England. Churchill publicly spoke against the killing of the two British army officers and spoke openly in condemnation against the Jewish militant group, Irgun. He didn't apologize for the attack on Jewish citizens in Tel Aviv by British troops and Palestinian police officers, but he did deliver a speech warning against antisemitism in Great Britain, "lest we end up thinking and acting like the Nazis we just defeated." The anti-Jewish riots in Northern England ended within 12 hours after his speech. Churchill remains privately concerned about the rise in hostilities in Mandatory Palestine and fears a war between the Palestinians and the Jews is on the horizon if tensions don't de-escalate.

Hôtel de Brienne, Paris
12:00, 10 Octobre 1947

Earlier that year, the French people had elected Vincent Auriol. A weak populist, he had promised economical growth while he united France under a single banner. His agenda called for the communists and right wingers to set aside their differences and work together: France should quietly mind its business. However the military politely disagreed: it wasn't Auriol who had handled the situation in Asia, nor had he pulled out the African miracle. It wasn't him who would push the Soviets out if they ever came. Thankfully enough, he left enough room for them to act.

A man strolled out into the courtyard of the Briennes Hotel. There, a car was waiting for him. And so did another man exit and leave, and another. All carrying briefcases, they rode to the embassies in Paris.

Top Secret. For the eyes of the addressed only.
To the leaders of the United States, the British Empire, and the Scandinavian Empire
From the French Ministry of War

The rapid and aggressive expansion of communist regimes over the world poses a threat to our nations and their ideals. The Soviets hold power in Eastern Europe for now, but we cannot guarantee that China, Canada and the Mexican Republic will not fall like dominoes due to their meanings. Therefore, on behalf of the French military, we call you all to a meeting in Dunkirk to discuss the possibility of a military alliance between the countries of the North Atlantic, qnd a containment policy.
- Henri Tietgen

Tangier port, Maroc Français
12:00, 10 Octobre 1947

The tall radar antennas rose over the countryside surrounding Tangier as workers toiled at its port. If there was one aspect of France that had remained throughout the war was its navy. From Brest to the Guiana, whether with the Richelieu battleship or the humble Fantasque destroyer it was her that would rule the waves.
The once-humble port of Tangiers was being renovated, and unlike many such projects being carried out on the colonies, it was to become a crucial base. Now that the Soviet Union held influence over sections of Asia, Europe and even Canada as well as Mexico, the transfer of weapons and troops to spark Revolution would spell disaster for the the Western Block. It could not be afforded. Under orders of the Ministère de la Guerre, the destroyers Fantasque and Indomptable were moved to Morocco, where they would help the Montcalm with the interception of ships at Gibraltar. In the English Channel, the Richelieu would operate, aided by other two destroyers. The rest of the fleet would be spread to hold the colonies.

To Henri Tietgen

I am writing in response to your previous message addressed to British leaders. Naturally, as a message from the French Ministry of War, it was delivered to me. I am writing to inform you that I, as well as Sir Churchill and many others in the British government and the British public, agree fully with you that the rapid expansion of Communist regimes poses a serious threat to the nations of the free world. It was especially sore to see the Canadians turn towards Communism. Therefore I must report that I will be notifying Sir Churchill of your invitation to meet in Dunkirk to discuss matters. As of the writing of this letter, I will confirm that you may expect me in attendance at the meeting.

11 October, 1947: Former King Vittorio Emanuele III asks that he be recognized as a hero for his resistance to Mussolini and be restored to, at the very least, his rule as King of Savoy. Luigi Einaudi has decided to let parliament answer the question of the royalty. Conservatives have agreed that local monarchy should be restored, though some state that allowing regions to act as autonomous countries within the borders of Italy threatens national unity. Liberals generally oppose the move though some Christian Democrats, including Mr. Einaudi himself, support Papal control over Lazio.

Top Secret. For the eyes of the addressed only.
To Henri Tietgen
We agree to this proposal the Soviets and their allies must be contained and the US has every intention on doing what we can to do just that. We advise we do this quickly we have no idea when the Soviets or one of their allies tries something. I along with multiple members of my cabinet will come to Dunkirk to discuss this alliance.
From President Harry Truman of the United States of America

Pierre Henri Tietgen, French minister of war, quickly explained to his wife that he would come home late, that he loved her, and hung up. The answering letters were more than satisfactory.

"Très bien! Reply that we'll be waiting in the 20th of October at 10:00 o'clock in the morning, at the Hôtel de Ville. Officially, it'll only be a discussion on the European economical situation. Now we only need to wait for the Scandinavians."

French Embassy, Hue, Indochina
06:00, 11 Octobre 1947

Émanuel Schmidt was a courier for the French embassy in Indochina. Working the night shift, he was tasked with delivering documents thought too important to send by radio, telegram or mail, or driving VIPs around. Like many men in his profession, he was only kept awake by the liberal application of coffee and a profound love for his homeland.
He loaded his pistol and rechecked the sealed package. This time, he was to take the armoured Citroen, and he would be accompanied by armed agents. If the Vietnamese accepted the package, he would come back, this time with some bigwig from the mainland. Nothing special.

Plan de Campagne Jaune

Given the geopolitical situation, the French Ministry of War believes that China may fall to a communist regime during the upcoming elections. Of such an event was to transpire, it would shift the balance of the region, and pose a direct threat to Indochina, and an indirect threat to France and it's allies. Thus, we politely ask for military access to the Tonkin province. If the Indochinese government chooses to accept, one field army as well as accompanying equipment and ships will be sent there under the pretext of training and joint exercises. In truth their goals are to
1 - Prevent a possible commun coup d'état and intervene if necessary,
2 - Monitor eventual Soviet shipments to Canada or Southern Mexico.
Please consider our demand. If you choose to reject it, no harm will come to you from our part as a consequence, and this letter will for all intents and purposes never have existed.

New Delhi, October 21st, 1947

Savarkar declares the Bharitya State and dissolves the Commune, ending any elections and imposing direct rule on the states. This was stated is his campaign for Chief Minister, and he stays true to his word-However, the fate of the state lies within the Chinese election.

It goes like this. China is a powerful nation. Getting on the wrong side of it will ruin any hope for the future of the young, changing nation. Whether to abandon communism or not, so dependent. The least Savarkar could do is... he turns to a map of Indochina which is next to his state in the map. He looks closely at the Kingdom of Siam. His army is mobilized. An invasion would be easy. Easy, without the Indochinese or even worse, French intervention. He decides to test the West. He sends a telegram to the Siamese Kingdom:
To the Foreign of Affairs of the Kingdom of Siam:
We ask you give back the Southern Burmese area which was stolen from us in the Indian Civil War.
Failure to do so will result in military intervention.
From the Bharitya State.

Siam-Burmese Border, October 30th, 1947

Subhas Chandra Bose glances at his army. They are building up on the border. Armed with signature Indian rifles, they ride in vehicles manufactured in India. The old British tanks are gone. And soon, maybe the British themselves. Those dirty lapdogs had drained the Indian subcontinent of everything!!! He was getting of track. Hopefully the military arriving would pressure the Kingdom to give the state's rightful territory back.

Canada Announces Scientific Programs
31st October, 1947

The State News Apparatus has announced today that Canada will go ahead with many scientific programs. These programs are to look into space travel, atomic weapons, super-crops, medicines, and others.

Although Canada did not pick up German scientists during the Second World War, it is hoped that determination and the Canadian spirit will get us through it.

Canada has announced that it plans to send the first human into space by 1955, and a group of young men and women have reportedly been selected already to do the job; their identities have not yet been released.

Canada hopes for peaceful relations with all other nations of the world.

October 10, 1947
Taiwan

Oh how these men had fallen from grace. Reduced to a small insurgency in the island of Taiwan, beset by an ever-present, iron-willed military that survived both world wars. These men were once in the running for ruler of China. These men are all that's left of the Right-Wing KMT, and they have a story to tell.

Upon Sun Wen's death, a scramble for party succession took place. On one side we had Wang, now the current president of China, and on the other we had Chiang, now the leader of a 100,000 strong insurgency in the Taiwanese mountains. The schism caused by these two powerful figures clashing was so great the KMT fractured in two and a civil war erupted along ideological disputes. In the end, Wang, who cooperated with the CPC won out. Chiang and his men escaped however, and began fighting a brutal war of survival. They'd be chased from Nanjing to Fujian, and then from Fujian to Guangxi. There they would hold out against what few KMT forces were present as the majority were fighting the Japanese. Shortly after the Japanese sued for peace however, China redirected its armies to Chiang's insurgency and gave them the boot. From here they escaped to the recently liberated island of Taiwan, which luckily had no Chinese troops within it. Chiang promptly proclaimed a rival government on the island, the Chinese National Republic and began to regrow his army's strength. While Wang claims sovereignty over the island, it is de facto under the CNR. (sound familiar?) Several unsuccessful military expeditions have been sent to retake what is rightful Chinese clay but all have failed.

Now Chiang Kai-Shek, generalissimo of the National Republic is at Taipei, his new capital, plotting to take the mainland...

'The plan goes like this,' said Chiang, discussing it with his military advisors.

'We need the support of a foreign regime against the mainlanders. And the westerners are all too happy to get all the help they need against the Soviet Union and its puppet states. With the upcoming election in mind we can easily use this to take the seat of power from Wuhan. There are rumors that the Westerners will use armed intervention against a China that is against them. Considering that Wang is vehemently anti-western, and is planning to act on this for his second term, while Mao is well, pro-Soviet, we'll have the justification for a foreign-backed military coup either way! And no the Soviets cannot intervene, lest they break the peace they have.'

His advisors cheer at this brilliantly conceived plan.

The next day, a delegation from Taipei is sent to Indochina, hoping to find a Western audience.

OOC: I know I had to add a lot of stuff with this IC post as well as retcon my ownership of Taiwan, but how else am I supposed to create conflict?

Imperial Federation of Northern Mexico
Federación Imperial del Norte de México

The Emperor was still deep in thought in the Guadalaraja Cathedral as he pondered what to say to the crowds back in the palace. The reports were coming in that the southern Mexicans were saber rattling politically over the loss of their "northern possessions". The southerners always viewed the north as backward, and uncivilized which is why they foolishly tried throwing all forms of settlers from every nation at it hoping someone would stick. Of course, once they did they had the audacity to try, and enforce their values on these new settlers causing revolts such as the war with Texas, and ultimately the U.S over border disputes which gained them far more territory than some probably thought it would. The people of Northern Mexico were tired of suffering under the war of southern despots, and madman out of Mexico City, and for the moment their revanchism would be ignored.

Though the foolish communard government eventually fell back into a state of "democracy" the people of the south seemed not to learn. Election after election they elected foolhardy people who raged at the loss of the north especially due to some foreigner. The emperor didn't personally consider himself a foreigner as he had ruled over these people for eighteen years. He married a local woman from a wealthy family back in Sonora, converted to the Catholic faith, learned to speak Spanish during his time fighting the war, and had nine beautiful children with her. The people of the north have grown prosperous in their own ways from art to other parts of culture since peace was officially signed back in 1931.

The emperor seeks only to rule the pure, pious, and valiant northerners who fought and died for the freedom by the thousands all because of a war the people in Mexico City started. When the emperor personally lead the siege, and ultimately capture of Mexico City in 1931 the wretchedness of the place became apparent to all with some of his officers wanting to burn the whole city down as they left. To many, the emperors biggest mistake was not neutralizing Veracruz by having the U.S occupy it, and releasing it as its own republic or ruling it as a trust. Regardless of the mistakes of nearly twenty years ago weren't what was important right now as the emperors annual October speech was the talk of the country. Every two years state elections occurred for a variety of offices, and the emperor would make a speech the October of every year, and the year before elections was especially important.

Currently, the election map looked like it was unchanging as the Asociación de ganaderos del norte (Northern Ranchers Association) was continuing their dominance of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Sonora, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, and Tamaulipas. Of course, changing demographics due to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints within Baja California, Chihuahua, Sonora, and Coahuila might one day upset the politics up there. While many northern Mexicans are uncomfortable with them these polygamists, and their secessionist church is partly responsible for helping make Northern Mexico a reality. Since the civil war, a movement known as the American Veterans League has been helping civil war foreign volunteers from the states settle in various states such as Baja California Sur, Tamaulipas, and Nuevo Leon. This has resulted in an uptick of Protestant churches being established, but eighteen years on most of the settlers have chosen to integrate with most at the very least speaking Spanish.

Despite the fact, the very civil war which tore apart the old country of Mexico was undoubtedly started by red activists, and officials the Emperor was more sympathetic to the more "democratic" reds especially since they opposed the Trotskyist government out of Mexico City. Since the end of the war, the various ideologies have coalesced into two groups with the first being Confederación Demócrata Socialista (Democratic Socialist Confederation) who dominate the states of San Luis Potosi, Guanajuato, and Queretaro. The second being the Liga de Autonomía del Norte de México (Northern Mexican Autonomy League) who descend from the anarchists that saved the states of Durango, and Sinaloa during the northern offensive by the Trotskyist government. These two states have become what some politicians deem as "un-states" with the communities forming an autonomous confederation with committees that handle some responsibilities, and not much else.

In Zacatecas and Aguascalientes, the Partido Demócrata Moderado ( Moderate Democratic Party) have taken power to represent the rising middle class there that want more centrist politics involved in the imperial parliament. They originally were a part of a greater party until a split between the reactionaries, and the centrists six years back. In the capital state of Jalisco, and the state of Nayarit the Partido democratico reaccionario (Reactionary Democratic Party) hold the power given their interests with the aristocrats there, and others who see them as the standard bearers of Northern Mexican tradition, and morality. Soon the emperor will give his speech on the state of the world, the country, and politics before retiring for the day back to his palace gardens. Many suspect the emperor may one day soon abdicate to his firstborn son, and spend the remainder of his life gardening, and praying, but one can only know.

Translated extract from an advertisement found in several newspapers, circa 1947

It it the duty and responsibility of every citizen to defend himself and his compatriots from harm. Our government understands this, and has the pleasure to announce that it is carrying out new adoption programs to equip it's troops with modern equipment. As a consequence, large stores of surplus are available to purchase by the French public:

Mauser rifles in the Karabiner 98 pattern (250 francs for a rifle, accessories and ammunition)
Short, Magazine Lee Enfields (275 francs for a rifle, accessories and ammunition)
Stahlhelm helmets of all patterns (100 francs per helmet)
Adrian helmets (100 francs per helmet)

Other surplus is available. For more equipment and a full list, phone the number below, or visit the 2nd procurement office at the Hôtel de Briennes, 6e arrondissement.

Four unmarked cargo ships, camouflaged carefully by their crew, slid along the nearest port. If they were found out by the wrong party, they would scuttle and their escort would surface to pick them up.
After the war, France found itself with large stockpiles of German equipment. Aside from tests and post-action examinations, there wasn't much to do with them. Already, superior gear was being received as lend-lease or produced by domestic industries. Several tonnes were held in stockpiles, slowly rusting or being sold to the public. The luckiest pieces were used to equip reservists, or distributed to colonies. However, on the 10th October, a large section of aircraft, armour and heavy weapons disappeared. A few days later, the partisans of Chiang Kai-Shek's militia would be found with new Kar 98 rifles, machine guns, mortars, trucks, 88mm flak cannons, and even planes or tanks of the Panzer IV models that had been modernised as well as the fuel to run them. Nobody accepted responsibility for this donation.

Dunkirk City Hall, Northern France
09:00, 20e Octobre 1947

A platoon patrolled the City Hall and its grounds. At its entrance, a hasty checkpoint had been set up, and the last checks on the meeting room were being made. The carpets were dusted, the room was checked for microphones, its acoustic isolation rechecked, and the fireplace well stocked. The envoys would be coming anytime soon, and lunch was already being cooked.
Pierre Henri Tietgen sighed and tried to calm himself. Things were moving at such a fast pace, with the situation in Asia deteriorating every minute. War could break out as the conference was held. If it did, all would go down the drain, and they would be back to the drawing board.

Dunkirk, France
20 October 1947

The Viscount Margesson and Sir Winston Churchill both arrived in Dunkirk via ship, travelling via the RRS Discovery. The ship would remain docked in Dunkirk's harbor until the end of the meeting. The two men, without any other representation from Britain besides themselves walked the half mile from the harbor to the city hall, where the meeting would be taking place. As they neared the city hall, they'd noticed French soldiers in growing numbers. The two men assumed it was just standard security and protection for a meeting of such important men. Harry Truman himself was going to be in attendance - or at least sending a representative in his place. It was a bit weird for Winston Churchill to be meeting here since there was no word of the French President being in attendance. He assumed the French President would be there, but would not be surprised if the man sent somebody else in his place.

Churchill spoke to Margesson while they were still out of earshot of any of the French, "President Auriol is a weak leader, and a shame on the French nation in my opinion. I'll work with him but only because I have a fond view of France and feel pity for the French people who have to live under such a weak leader." As the two neared more French soldiers as they could now see the city hall. Winston returned to silence, not wanting to speak ill of the French President while being able to be heard by French ears. It was nearly half past nine in the morning as they arrived at the front of the city hall. Margesson saw the man who he recognised as Pierre Henri Tietgen, his French counterpart. Churchill, on the other hand, did not recognise the man, but extended his hand in formal greeting, "Winston Churchill, at your service."

Istanbul, Turkey
20/10/1947

As soon as he woke up, Baran came up with an idea to bring the state to its former glory it had back in 1767, he immediately called for a meeting, ignoring the fact it was 8 AM. In around half an hour all of the government officials invited to the meeting had arrived, at that time King Baran started to speak out his plans for the future. "We may have lost a lot of conflicts, we may have been looted of our territories many times in the past, but if there is any time to make a new rise as a superpower, that time is now" Baran quoted. As soon as he had finished the Minister of Defence replied: "And what are your plans, your highness?". "Well, firstly we buff up our military, focus on increasing our technology as much as we can, we should also start developing atomic bombs as fast as we can, then we make an expansion into Iran and fully annex it, after all of that, well, then we quickly head into the Balkans and take as much as we can, then we increase our military size, some recruitment posters and war propaganda should do it, oh yeah, I also forgot to mention that I am going to have the military budget increased by 5% of the GDP, we will also take some money out of the public transport and international aid funding too" The king had replied. A general overhearing the king's plans had interrupted the meeting and said his opinions "We should not develop atomic bombs, the world's nations will see Lasaca as a threat and have it libera...". The king cut through and replied, "The USA has atomic bombs, they used it on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and they were not liberated, so we won't get liberated either, now stop with your idiotic claims and leave the room before I have you arrested!". The general left hastily, then the ministers and the king started talking about general things for 30 minutes, then he dismissed them from the meeting and from the palace, after they left the king whispered to himself "Someday we will rule the world, the whole world will eventually bow down to us, we may make some allies along the way, making allies and friends is always a good thing". Then he left the room for the lounge, his breakfast set down in front of him, on the coffee table. Baran switched the TV on and ate his breakfast, it was the tastiest thing he had ever tasted, ingredients from the Hashemite Caliphate.

Socialist Glory in Space!
First Canadian Space Launch, East German Cooperation

Earlier today, Canada launched its first rocket - a simple sounding rocket, adapted and upgraded from one of our few captured German V-2 rockets. The craft was known as "Liberation-1-1" This craft was launched from a site north of Toronto, and landed near to Ottawa. Various small scientific instruments captured data during the flight, and the results are as follows: the atmosphere thins as altitude increases, and at a certain altitude, it disappears almost completely. Gravity decreases with altitude, although at the 107 mile height that Liberation-1-1 reached, it was still significant enough to pull the rocket home - it is now known to be possible that with enough lateral velocity, a spacecraft could be placed into an "orbit" and never come down. Fruitflies, in a sealed container, were recovered perfectly intact and alive after the flight.

Perhaps the least important payload development-wise, but the most important national morale-wise was the camera on board Liberation-1-1. Capturing a photograph of the Earth, and Canada, from above, this photograph is the first picture taken from space, and will signify a new dawn in the technological age, lead by socialism and progress.

The next flight will be another suborbital test, known as Liberation-1-2. The Liberation-1 series will continue through to the end of 1947, when it will likely be replaced by the Liberation-2 series, of another, more advanced version of the V-2, perhaps capable of orbit.

After landing, Supreme Chairwoman Sarah Koslova announced something that comes as a slight surprise. East Germany and Canada have announced a dual space program, and the first crewed space launched will be carrying one East German and one Canadian. With their cooperation, especially with the newly acquired Wernher Von Braun, a genius rocket scientist who designed the V-2 itself, it is expected that the first crewed launch will come in 1951 or 1952. Evidence shows that Von Braun designed the V-2 under duress, so there will be no attempt to try him for war crimes.

The new joint Space Department is named the Canada-Deutschland Aerospace Exploration Cooperative, or C-DAEC.
