Generic Info
Nation Name: Republic of Indonesia
Symbols: Indonesian flag and coat of arms etc will get the images later if anyone cares
Location: the thing on the map
Population: will deal w calculating later but probably not THAT far off RL, unless someone does stupid bad math without any basis based off some dumb blanket global percentage :^)
Capital City: Jakarta

Government Info
Government Type: Military junta/oligarchy
Brief Explanation of Government: Bunch of top generals and admirals + influential oligarchs run the show (I'll name whatever the Standing Committee type dealio thing they've set up later, it'll be suitably ominous)
Leader/s: names tbd (Moerdani would be oooooooold if he's still alive lol)
Relations: Gets on okay with the Indians (specifically the Deccans), probably is on okay-ish terms by necessity with whatever's in Straya (unless they're still salty about PNG in which case fuck 'em)

Population Info
Religious Situation: Predominantly Muslim w various minorities
Culture(s): Javanese, all the other little island cultures (Balinese, Sundanese, etc), Malay, Overseas Chinese, New Guinean, Singaporean

Military Info
Army: Probs p big? Need to sort out population first but conscription is a thing, probably mostly using domestically-produced AKs at this point bc they're cheap easy and reliable but idk if a milsperger suggests smthn else that could be changed, have some tanks and such, also really into helicopter spam (military helos + civilian crap that got pressed into service + whatever has been managed to be manufactured or otherwise acquired since shit went south)
Navy: Still sorting this out- basically whatever the navies of the bits I own had as of '83, plus a whole bunch of ratchet helicarriers and transports and gunships cobbled together out of freighters and tankers and fishing boats that no one was using

Also has an air force- CAC Sabres, MiG-21s, F-5s, BAE Hawks, OV-10s, A-4s, plus rehab'd older planes (most important of those being Tu-16s and Il-28s, but also probs MiG-17s, C-130s, C-47s, etc)

Other Info
Goals: Crush internal rebellions and maybe try to be on less of a war footing all the damn time bc it sucks, get the bomb
History:
-thermonuclear shitfest (Indo more or less untouched)
-nuclear winter/monsoon failure/mass famine
-Moerdani coups Suharto, probs w help from other mil types and some oligarchs, and goes like waaaay into full blown dictatorship to keep things together
-conscription, secret police, probs nationalizing some stuff and doing corvees or smthn ig, trying to get the defense industry to get in gear (Indo defense industry gets go ahead to start shamelessly copying stuff w/o licenses)
-Chaos in Malaysia + some sort of threat to Singapore or smthn leads Indo to send troops to/occupy Singapore ostensibly to help protect it, (Singaporeans I think will go w it in a way that means Singapore and Singaporean leaders has major influence now, Singapore is probs like lowkey the second capital even tho it has to be way more militarized thx to the Malay issues) invasion of Malaysian Borneo
-Jakarta blames Port Moresby for OPM supposedly infiltrating thru the PNG border, "invades" and "annexes" PNG (AKA occupying Port Moresby and some of the larger towns and dropping some bombs on random highland villages)
-continued Malay shitfest leads to general occupation of Malaysia (possibly jointly w the Thais or smthn???? idk)
-rebellions in Aceh, probably Bali, PNG, Malaysia, and possibly East Timor (ET 1999 referendum never happens obv but like they might still be pissed) mean country has to stay on constant war footing
-Moerdani probably dies or retires but there's a more or less orderly transition to a less personalistic dictatorship (but still a military dictatorship tho lol)

Generic Info
Nation Name: Kabylian Union State
Symbols: Official flag
Unofficial military banner
Location: Eastern Algeria (see Reservation)
Population: 2,000,000
Capital City: Constantine

Government Info
Government Type: Unitary Republic
Brief Explanation of Government: Initially constructed by an ad-hoc junta composed of the remnants of the Algerian military, Kabylia has since undertaken some democratic reforms at the local level. Citizens directly elect their district executives and provincial legislature, but beyond that the government is out of their hands. Provincial legislatures elect governors themselves. Meanwhile, the Council of State, composed of 63 current and former members of the military and FLN officials, elect a President. The President, who can serve for unlimited five-year terms, has broad executive powers and may veto an act of the State Council except by a three-quarters vote. State Council members also may serve for unlimited five-year terms and appoint one of their number as Speaker, to coordinate with and advise the President.
Leader/s: President Youssef Belkhadem, Speaker Mustapha Sadi
Relations With a stated goal of reclaiming Algeria from anarchy, Kabylia is generally hostile towards other polities occupying territory within Algerian borders. The Union State is openly at war with the Islamist groups that contest the remainder of the country. However, it seeks to maintain cordial and even friendly relations with other Mediterranean states.

Population Info
State Religion: Sunni Islam
Religious Policy: Government-enforced religious tolerance, but only Sunni Islam is sponsored by the state.
Religious Situation: 92% Sunni Muslim, 4% Ibadi Islam, 3% Islamic doomsday offshoots, 1% Christian. Sunni Islam is still totally predominant, but the Ibadi sect has seen some growth in the aftermath of the nuclear fire. Such a cataclysmic even has also prompted the formation of several apocalyptic cults only tangentially related to Islam. The most prominent of these are the Hajjanis, who believe that the Al-Masih ad-Dajjal (The false Messiah) came with the nuclear war and now physically stalks the Earth in the form of radiation.
State Ethnicity Arabized Berber (99%)
Other Ethnicities Tuareg, European (1%)
Slavery: Banned outright, although punitive labor for criminals and political dissidents is permitted.
Ethics: Citizens of Kabylia are generally accepting of the joint FLN-military regime, as this was how Algeria was governed prior to the war. Despite the government's authoritarianism, most accept, and some eagerly support, the regime due to the security and (relative) prosperity afforded to the people. However, there are those on the fringes of Kabylian territory that are susceptible to the clarion call of Islamism.

Military Info - Army
Chief of Staff: General Sharif Zeroual
Commander Selection: Lower officer ranks, approximately through the rank of captain, are filled primarily through merit-based promotion. There is plenty of opportunity for this given the frequency with which the ALN engages in combat. However beyond the rank of captain, preferences are given to the 'old' military families, which have been involved with the armed forces since the war against the French in the 1950s. In this sense, the selection of high-ranking officers is conducted through a semi-feudal process in which an existing officer takes a younger protege under his wing, exchanging the younger man's loyalty for the protection and tutelage of the patron. The ALN's most notorious and effective commander is Major General Qadir Aboulker, commander of the Republican Guard. Under his command is Colonel Akram Ebdelkader, who commands the superb 1st Airborne Regiment within the Guard.
Weaponry: The ALN primarily favors pre-war Soviet weaponry, as that was what sustained the Algerians prior to 1983. T-62 and T-72 tanks are mainstays of Kabylian armor. Domestic small-arms manufacturing has started up again, allowing the ALN to permanently sustain itself.

Sophistication: Moderate. The Armée de libération nationale (ALN) inherited tens of thousands of veterans from the War of Independence post-1983. These formed the core of the new Kabylian state. Although the ALN lacks the large armor formations of Algeria, it has maintained a relatively high level of professionalism over the years, as it has been tasked with fighting Islamists, Tuaregs and brigands constantly over the years. It intervened during the 1996 crisis to restore order; afterwards it gained several seats at the table of government. With (most of) the left-over armor and air-defense assets of old Algeria, the ALN is a mobile force capable of mounting offensive and defensive operations against comparable opponents. Thus far it has mostly combated Islamist factions, which are more numerous but also less well-armed.
Levying: The Army is constructed around the Republican Guard (founded 1990), a 14,000-strong force of elite shock troops kept at constant combat readiness. Tankers and other specialist forces are filled out by professional volunteers, while the remaining bulk of the infantry are conscripts serving 2-year terms.
Army Size 20,000 professional troops, 25,000 conscripts. Maximum wartime strength is 110,000 with full conscription and added special police forces and paramilitaries.

Military Info - Navy
Chief of Staff: Admiral Marid Rachedi
Commander Selection: Merit-based.
Weaponry: 1970s-era Soviet designs with some modernizations in place. Consists of 2 attack subs, 2 frigates, 4 corvettes, 30 patrol boats, and 3 converted freighters that serve as ad-hoc amphibious warfare vessels.
Sophistication: Not great. Given the FLN's focus on maintaining the state and pursuing a ground-based policy of Algerian reunification, the Navy must take a back seat. Although the rank-and-file personnel and officers are professionals, they do not have much experience, and their equipment is decidedly outdated when matched against any stronger naval powers.
Levying: No levying is done for the Navy whatsoever. All personnel are volunteers.
Naval Size 7,000 sailors + 2,500 marines

Other Info
Goals: Reunification of Algeria under National Liberation Front government, incorporation and protection of all Berber people.

History: When nuclear fire scorched the Earth in September of 1983, Algeria was not spared. As an ally of the Soviets since throwing out the French in 1962, Algiers was obliterated when an American warhead detonated over the city, destroying most organs of the Algerian government in a single stroke. Although the rest of the country was spared further hellfire, Algeria soon dissolved into looting and panic, like so many other stricken nations.

Paranoia ruled. The Islamists insisted that the FLN had brought the war on Algeria by siding with the godless Soviets, and launched a widespread rebellion. The Tuaregs seceded and formed their own confederation in the barren south. Some even claimed that remnants of the French military would attempt to reconquer the country for their own ends. The city of Tlemcen, in the far west, broke away for just that reason, hoping in vain that French forces might intervene to restore order.

The nuclear winter of 1983-84 absolutely devastated densely-populated Algeria. Although the Algiers bomb and its radioactive aftermath had killed upwards of two million people, the nonexistent harvest and freezing temperatures killed three million more. With party leadership effectively annihilated, the FLN could do little to counter the Islamist tide, which broke the next year only because factions of differing zealousness turned on one another. Rather than a Wahhabist revolution that remade the country, Algeria merely dissolved into fiefdoms of widely varying stability.

There was one city where no such anarchy occurred - this was Constantine, in the far east of Algeria. The man responsible for saving it was Colonel Hafiz Makhloufi, who used his single infantry regiment to keep order in the city center and recruit cooperative paramilitaries, who expanded the zone of control to the entire metropolitan area.

It was in the Army, and in Constantine, that Algeria, or at least the east, was able to place its faith in. The Army was the sole national institution to survive the holocaust, and Constantine the sole major city that had not either seceded, fallen into chaos, or submitted to Islamism. What was left of the FLN leadership gravitated there, as did other disparate Army units and hundreds of thousands of refugees who fled the fighting in other provinces.

The influx of newcomers prompted a brief power struggle between Makhloufi, the FLN and his former military superiors. Makhloufi won decisively by virtue of the loyalty of the local militias. Establishing his own 'Government of National Salvation,' Makhloufi conscripted several thousand male refugees and put the others to work, creating the first effective regime since before the war.

In 1986, Makhloufi's army exited its self-imposed cordon around the city and went on the offensive against al-Jama'ah al-Islamiyah al-Musallaha, an armed Wahabbist coalition which had dominated parts of eastern Algeria to that point. During eighteen months of fierce fighting, Makhloufi's forces reclaimed much of the Algerian Army's heavy weaponry and pushed al-Jama'ah out of Tipaza, Guelma, Oum El Bouaghi, and Skikda provinces. As Makhloufi's legend grew exponentially, disparate Algerians traveled long distances to either fight for him or live under his regime, which was providing unprecedented security for an otherwise ravaged North Africa.

The Colonel proved a great statesman as well as a commander. Rather than expand rapidly and overextend, Makhloufi built up infrastructure and industry where possible, returning people to work and reestablishing some semblance of an economy. Many hurdles had to be cleared on the way to a reestablishment of an Algerian state. There were those that continued to embrace Islamism. A Wahhabi uprising was put down by the Army in 1989.

Many have compared Makhloufi to a modern Cincinnatus. He refused to run for President when the first free elections in 1990 provided him an opportunity to do so. Instead, he threw his weight behind the once-antagonistic FLN, which swept back into power under Abdelaziz Bouteflika, an FLN party luminary and longtime Foreign Minister of Algeria. Bouteflika provided Makhloufi with full autonomy in military matters if the latter promised to keep the Army out of politics. The new 1991 constitution created local elections and the Council of State, which would serve as the de facto legislature in the future.

This arrangement would only persist for a handful of years. Bouteflika was not a popular man, and rubbed many party members the wrong way. His chief rival, Ajmal Harbi, peeled off the less secular sections of the FLN and formed an alliance with underground Islamist groups. On February 2nd, 1996, they launched a coup against the government. Government buildings in Constantine were seized and Bouteflika was killed. Islamist paramilitaries flooded the streets.

The Army, however, stood by its patron saint. Colonel Makhloufi intervened after a week's time and cleared the city of Islamists. The coup plotters were rounded up and summarily executed, crushing for good the Wahabbist currents within the borders of Kabylia. February 20th, the first day of peace, is celebrated today as Restoration Day.

It was up to Makhloufi to write the revised 1996 constitution; he had all the power and popular support in the world. The military was written into the constitution as the "sentinels of the nation" and given a legal right to intervene in affairs of state. The Council of State expanded to 63 members, more than a third of which were reserved for current and former officers. Hafiz Makhloufi was elected President totally unopposed, and did not relinquish the reins of power until cancer took his life in 2004. Revered as the greatest of all Algerian heroes, The Colonel now rests in a grand tomb constructed in the Constantine city center.

His political successors made it a priority to maintain the status quo established by Makhloufi, with only minor revisions to the 1996 constitution in the past twenty years. The FLN-military alliance has held up remarkably well, despite speculation that it would not. It seems that both factions share a vested interest in reunifying Algeria and quashing their common enemy, Islamism. All the while the borders of Kabylia have gradually expanded, and the standard of living for its people has risen. One day, years from now, the hope is that the Union State will come to encompass all of Algeria.

Generic Info
Nation Name: Free Republic of Ireland
Symbols: Irish Flag
Location: Image
Population: 3.5 million
Capital City: Navan

Government Info
Government Type: decentralized unitary parliamentary republic
Brief Explanation of Government: A parliamentary state, the popularly-elected President acts as a ceremonial head of state without much power, most power rests with the Oireachtas (parliament). The Lower House, the Dáil, is made up of 128 members elected by proportional representation divided into multi-member constituencies to reflect the will of the entire nation and the Upper House, the Seanad made up of 15 representatives from the governments of the devolved Irish provinces, with each provinces being given seats based on 'electoral weight' (Leinster: 5 seats, Ulster: 5 seats, Munster: 3 seats, Connacht: 2 seats). The Dáil passes all legislative bills and elects the Taoiseach, the head of the Irish Government who selects his own minister (with approval from the President). All bills passed by the Dáil must achieve 2/3rds support from the Seanad to become law. Despite the existence of provisional governments, the state remains unitary with the national government retaining rights to disband, create and divide provinces (and what authority it gives them) as it sees fit.
Leader/s: Taoiseach Michael Creed, President Anne Anderson

Name: Taoiseach Michael Creed
Age: 55
Skills, Education and Experience: St. Colman's College (1981-1983), Cork Provisional Assemblyman (1983-1986), Irish Provisional Government (1997), TD member for Cork (1997-), Minister for Agriculture and Food (2009-2011), Minister for Transport (2011-2014)
Family Members: Mary Creed (wife), Donal Creed (son), Louis Creed (son)
Advisers:
History: Son of Donal Creed, Fine Gael's Minister of State for School Buildings and Sport when the bombs fell, Michael was quietly being groomed to take his father's place as TD. Michael was in school in St. Colman's College when the bombs fell. Creed returned to Cork and assisted in the governance of the city in the immediate aftermath of the fall of the bombs. Thanks in part to his name, Creed was able to secure a position on the provisional city chamber when the military arrived to restore order. Initially welcoming the news, Creed soon became a prominent critic of the military in Cork. Creed often clashed with the Military Governor of Cork and event spent time under various forms of arrest throughout the 80s and 90s.

When the Cork Government formed, Creed was one of the earliest members, using his connections in the city to secure an appointment to the provisional Dail. Creed became a firm supporter of Brosnan and was rewarded for his support by being made Minister for Education in 2005. After the 2009 election, Creed was promoted to the coveted Minister for Agriculture and Food. Under the Stanton government, Creed was transferred to Minister for Transport to make room for a Stanton ally, barely missing the debacle that would lead to Stanton's downfall. Creed was selected as a compromise candidate for leadership and led the party to a successful victory in the 2017 election, but the popularity of Sinn Féin after over 20 years of governance is wearing thin and several of his decision are coming under increasing scrutiny.

Population Info
Religious Situation: Free worship is allowed, but most of the population follows the Roman Catholic Rite. One important item to note is due to the separation from the Catholic Church, The Prelate of Armagh in many ways acts as the head authority of the Catholic Church in Ireland. But the Prelates are very hesitant of questioning the Pope.
Culture(s): Irish
State Religion: Officially none, but the Irish Catholic Church retains a large amount of influence in governance
Religious Policy Free Worship
State Ethnicity Irish (Catholic), while not explicitly stated/required, catholicism is usually a requirement to be considered a part of the ethnicity by most of the (catholic) population
Other Ethnicities Ulster-Scot, English, Irish (Protestant)
Slavery: Outlawed
Ethics: Despite (or perhaps because of) what has happened since the bombs fell, the vast majority of all of the ethnics groups favor the liberal democracy that defined both of the previous states. Perhaps best encapsulated in the call that would becomes the motto of the protests of '97 "The Freedom to be Free".
A smaller subset of the population would prefer the Church to play a greater in the running of society, some say along with the state, fewer say above the state. The principle 'debate' among the majority and minority ethnicities of course being which church(es) that would be.
Another subset of the dominate Irish population harken for the old military regime, considering it a time of order, peace and dominance of the Irish, many of these have significant overlap with the more religiously inclined population (see history)

Military Info
Military Info - Army
Chief of Staff: Chief of Staff: General Seán O'Neill, Army Chief: Lieutenant General Michael O'Sullivan
Commander Selection: Merit is how officers are selected, with officers attending state-sponsored military academies for a number of years before taking command for themselves. At the point officers must work their way up the chain of command on their own merits. Though, as with most militaries, politics and connection plays some role in advancement.
Weaponry: The military largely imports their weapons from other nations or uses older weaponry from pre-1983 or taken from Northern Ireland. Many of the weapons manufactured in Ireland are based on older weapons and largely assigned to conscripts while advanced and high quality weapons are reversed for the regular/volunteer units.
Sophistication: Generally most of the Irish units are infantry units with only two mechanized battalions attached to the 1st and 2nd Brigades. The conscripted units primarily military units of 1960s or 1970s. Lightly armored designed to engage similarly equipped units or keep order. The volunteer units are designed more in-line with modern units, designed to be highly mobile and face a variety of threats. A gulf exists between the two unit types with the former seeing the latter as overconfident and overpaid decoration and the latter seeing the former as pampered at best and future sandbag fodder at worst.
Levying: The Irish Army are largely a conscripted force, recruits spend two years in the military. Volunteers are taken as well and sent to more combat ready units. Officers in conscript units are generally less strict on their men than other units.
Army Size ~20,000 men, divided into 6 Brigades (1st and 2nd are largely volunteer, 3rd-6th are largely conscript) and the Independent Ranger Battalion

Military Info - Navy
Chief of Staff: Chief of Staff: General Seán O'Neill, Naval Chief: Vice Admiral Patrick Megaw
Commander Selection: Merit is how officers are selected, with officers attending state-sponsored military academies for a number of years before taking command for themselves. At the point officers must work their way up the chain of command on their own merits. Though, as with most militaries, politics and connection plays some role in advancement.
Weaponry: Most of the older vessels are purchased from other nations, while the newer ones, most notably the frigates are constructed by Ireland.
Sophistication: Generally the primary role of the Navy is to keep Irish waters secure and search and rescue operations. Due to material shortages, the Navy often finds itself as the shunted service, constantly playing second fiddle to the Army. Best seen in the Navy's Submarine Service, or to be more precise, the lack of it. The Navy has long lobbied for larger surface warships and a submarine force. The former was eventually granted in the form of the Naomh-class frigates (itself a compromise from the more radical elements in Navy wanting Destroyers), but the latter being constantly denied. Instead the Navy is forced to rely on smaller vessels in possible invasions of Ireland.
Levying: Unlike the Army, most of the Navy is made up of volunteers who are generally interested in making careers in the service or learning a trade for civilian use.
Naval Size ~3,000
2 Frigates (1 in construction)
6 Offshore Patrol Vessels (3 in reserve)
4 Minesweepers (4 in reserve)
20 assorted small attack and patrol craft

Other Info
Goals: Keep Ireland free and independent
History: Bombs fell, country hurt, the same story was repeated across the world in 1983 and Ireland was no exception. The bombings wiped out both Dublin and Belfast, decapitating both political centers of Ireland. Both Irish states were sent into a state of confusion. The republic came under the brief control of its Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Louis Hogan. Hogan set up a new capital in Newbridge or to be more precise, the DoD headquarters in Newbridge. Using the military and paramilitary groups, Hogan was able to re-establish control over much of the Republic. Northern Ireland had its own issue, sectarian fighting broke out due to the lack of a central government to establish order. Eventually, the Democratic Unionist Party under Ian Paisley was able to re-establish its own order with his "Ulster First Force" (UFF) a revival of his previously conceived 'Third Force'. Paisley named the new state, the Ulster State and himself as First Minister.

Both states, while claiming to be different, were very almost mirror images. Both sides suffered heavy casualties from conflicts that broke out during the aftermath of the bombs falling as well as the fallout from harsh winters and poor harvest season, seeing hundreds of thousands die. To maintain order and prevent collapse both Hogan and Paisley introduced conscription and relied heavily on both paramilitary groups and sectarian religious organizations. Both suspended several rights and elections for the duration of the crisis.

The two states were wary neighbors, both unsure of which side would betray whom first. However, both had more pressing concerns that prevented either from acting on their desires. The two states created a de facto peace while they put their own houses in order, eventually concluding in a formal agreement, termed the Ulster-Irish Agreement in 1985 between Hogan and Paisley. Despite the agreement, the situation in Northern Ireland continued to deteriorate as the IRA and UFF continued their campaigns against one another. Hogan, a patriot, felt compelled to support the IRA and Paisley owed his power to the UFF, allowed them to operate without oversight.

Tensions between the two states erupted over the Archbishop of Armagh, the Catholic Primate of all Ireland (head of the Catholic Church in Ireland) whose power grew with the end of his rival Archbishop of Dublin, The Archbishop, Tomás Ó Fiaich, had long been sympathetic to the IRA's cause and after the UFF's rise to power, began to covertly support them with supplies and aid. The Archbishop was arrested in March of 1986 by the UFF and died of a heart attack (under circumstances still debated to this day) while in custody. Massive protests erupted in both Irelands after the Archbishop's death. The IRA in Northern Ireland increased their campaigns against Paisley's government. The UFF responded by a massive repression campaign, starting with arresting known IRA members and escalating into breaking up peaceful demonstrations by protestors and 'suspected' IRA members. This in turn caused the IRA to increase their own efforts, causing the UFF to respond in kind.

Eventually Hogan was forced by his supporters in the military and paramilitary groups to threaten Northern Ireland to halt their actions. Paisley, realizing the gravity of the situation attempted to reign in the UFF, but was deposed and replaced by Ivan Foster as First Minister of Ulster. Foster, a more radical leader than Paisley escalated the situation by refusing the even meet with Hogan's representatives and encouraged the UFF to continue their campaign.

September, 1986 saw the beginning of the Liberation War (among republicans) or the Invasion of Ulster (among the loyalists). Republican forces (with support of the IRA) under Major General James Parker crossed the border into Northern Ireland and engaged North Ireland military forces and the UFF. Fighting lasted for several months before Republican forces managed to occupy the entirety of Northern Ireland. The fighting officially ended in August of 1987, but resistance continued for the rest of the 80s and well into the 90s. In an ironic twist, the IRA and UFF switched places, with the IRA acting as a state sponsored paramilitary force charged with maintained order in the north, while the UFF was an outlawed group fighting to liberate what they see as occupied land.

Despite the tensions in the North, the military's popularity was assured in the rest of the nation. General Hogan was elevated to a hero of Ireland. But, the general was approaching seventy years of age and wanted to quietly retire after holding free elections. He met resistance from the military staff who wanted to keep power within the armed forces. Eventually, the general found himself a prisoner in a gilded cage by his own subordinates. This unseen state of affairs continued until June 1993 when General Louis Hogan passed away. Hogan was mourned as a hero and uniter of Ireland.

However, the true power behind the scenes, the military staff found itself running out of time. Many of its own members were aging, none had the popularity of Hogan and distrusted of the staff had been growing among the field commanders and generals scattered around the country. The staff instead invited a handful of civilian politicians to rule alongside them, promising election as soon as circumstances permitted. The public was appeased for a few years, but when permitting circumstances never seemed to materialize, the people grew restless.

The death blows would come from two unrelated sources. The first was the Catholic Church, long supporting the regime, relation grew colder under Archbishop Cahal Daly, a compromise candidate installed by the government. Sympathetic to the protestants, critical of the IRA, a long proponent of understanding between the two sides and old (likely to die and be replaced by someone more inline with the government), being over seventy when he took the post. Daly had grown to become the de facto governor of Ulster, exercising a soft authority over every sector of Northern society. Daly was often a peacemaker between the UFF and IRA before being killed a bombing in early 1997. The IRA used this as an excuse to launch repressions against the UFF and their alleged supporters in the protestant community.

The second blow came from farmers. During reconstruction, the Irish military worked out an agreement over the distribution of their produce. The agreement held firm throughout the pre-war period, but became increasingly taxed after Northern Ireland was added to the Republic. Much of the farmland in the north was devastated by the war and put increasing pressure on the farmers in the rest of the country to give more and more of their yield to the military. Farmers who could not meet their quotas or refused had all of their crops taken by the military. A particularly bad yield in the autumn of 1996 left a desperate military little choice but to take more and more crops.

on 11 May 1997, news broke out that Archbishop Daly was killed by a rogue IRA cell made to look like the UFF was responsible and was subsequently covered up by IRA and government officials. This sparked the Summer of 1997 which saw massive protests against the government. The largest were in Newbridge, the 'temporary' capital of the country. The protests were put down violently by the regular forces garrisoning the city. News of the incident spread throughout the country as anger against the government mounted. Bereft of their usual supporters in the Church and rural areas, the military staff found themselves on the wrong side of a revolution. Newbridge, their headquarters soon became their last stronghold as civilians across the country with the support of local military commanders simply stopped following orders from Newbridge (a consequence of the staff's attempt to centralize power in Newbridge). A new government was hastily organized in Cork, drawing together various critics of the regime together. The old regime was overthrown in early June after a violent clash between regular forces loyal to them and conscripts loyal to the new popular government in Newbridge. Hate for the regime did kill the regime, the staff had simply ran out of supporters ready for to fight for them and died a quickly and suddenly, not unlike the government they had replaced.

Cork became a center of activity for the new government as it desperately attempted to restore a semblance of normality to a land that was without leadership. Spokesmen for the new government were selected and a constitutional convention was organized for a new united Ireland. Outside of Cork a slew of activity began as several military commanders who had sworn allegiance to the new government set themselves as something resembling feudal lords, each waiting for the new government to fall and for them to become the second General Hogan. The situation was most tense in the north were fears alternated between a coup led by the UFF to restore protestant Ulster, a coup by the IRA to establish a police state to take out the former once and for all before the dust in the south settled and a coup by the military to try and reestablish a military state.

Any disagreement could have ended the young government before it started. As the Summer of 1997 dragged on, things worked out for the young republic. The government settled on a relatively young actor turned resistance leader named Pierce Brosnan who had some success in the United States before finding himself in Ireland when the bombs fell. A critic of the military regime, a recognizable name and without any pre-1983 enemies or baggage. A few abortive attempts to seize power by military officers were stopped by their men who were not interested in fighting their own countryman. The fears in Northern Ireland amount to nothing as the military and Catholic Church under Archbishop
Alec Reid worked out a peace agreement between the warring factions.

Eager to secure their legimatacty, the Cork government held elections in August of 1997 to elect the Dáil. Brosnan was able to cobble together a coalition to name him Taoiseach, his supporters would name themselves Sinn Féin, after the original party of a united Ireland and to appeal to the Irish Nationalists in the North. With his mandate, Brosnan announced a three-point plan: peace in the north, revitalizing the economy and putting Ireland back to its pre-1983 state. On the first point, Brosnan met with leaders of UFF and IRA to craft a lasting peace. Brosnan continued the redistribution of food that the military, but in a more equitable manner to farmers by working through local farmer association to more evenly spread out the losses. Brosnan also put the military to work as laborers, using them to rebuild an Ireland devastated by conflict for the past decade-and-a-half. The Winter of 1997-98 is commonly cited as one of the best since the fall of the bombs.

The first of Brosnan's promises was fulfilled in April of 1998 with the Good Friday Treaty which saw an agreement between the UFF and IRA to lay down their arms and transfer power to a Reconciliation Unit manned by people from both sides of the conflict. The agreement also created the Ulster Truth Commission which traded immunity for honesty. The commission was created to discover the truth behind the conflict and allow the people Ulster to put the Troubles behind them. Any member of any side in the conflict could testify on record before the commission on their role in the troubles in exchange for immunity from prosecution. A controversial move, it was seen as amnesty, though Brosnan and his supporters stressed it as about allowing rehabilitation and punishment. Brosnan also agreed to give Ulster 8 seats in the newly created Seanad, ensuring no legislation can pass the Seanad without Ulster support. The understanding was that any Ulster government would include protestants and catholics, ensuring the protestants would have a say in the national government The extra three seats would be reduced with each subsequent election of a full term of the parliament (preventing a succession of quick election to reduce the numbers). While unpopular with some sections of the populace, it was seen as necessary by a majority of the government.

Brosnan would lead to electoral victories in 2001, 2005 and 2009 before retiring in 2011. His term was marked by a revitalized nation with a steady rebuilding and a strong agricultural sector that ensured a well-fed population. Mining and offshore drilling also increased as Ireland struggled to rebuild its manufacturing sector with some success. horse-drawn carriages and bicycles remain the primary mode of transportation for many rural regions of Ireland (most of it) with bicycles being ubiquitous in towns and cities. Mass transit is dominated by the coal-powered trains of the state owned Irish Railways which has aggressively expanded railways across Ireland. The very few remaining aircraft are jealously guarded by the military and most of the functional automobiles are military or government owned and only sparsely used. Dublin and Belfast remain largely untouched, replaced by Navan and Derry respectively. Brosnan would joke that his greatest achievement was managing to convince the Dail to move the capital to his hometown of Navan.

Brosnan was replaced by his hand-picked lieutenant, David Stanton, former Tánaiste and Minister for Finance. Stanton was a major engineer of Brosnan's economic policies and fairly well regarded centrist within the party. However, to shore up support from the military and rural voters, Stanton took controversial measures. Stanton approved the Navy's long sought goal of larger warships by approving the Naomh-class frigates for construction. Against the advice of several of his own party members, Stanton also eased the amount of taxed food, allowing farmers to sell on their own. The measures shored up the party's right flank, but left their left dangerously exposed. The 2013 election saw Sinn Féin lose a number of seats to the previous minor Ecological Party (Páirtí Éiceolaíochta), propelling the party to Official Opposition status with 27 seats. Sinn Féin was left with 60 seats, five short of a majority. Stanton was forced to cooperate with the protestant Official Ulster Party (OUP) for supply and support to maintain a majority. Sinn Féin also had fissures appear in their own ranks as the left-leaning and right-leaning factions of the party both blamed the other for their loses. Attempting to appease the left-leaning faction, Stanton made a number of budgetary concessions, including a reduction of the number of authorized frigates from 4 to 3 and rolling back a number of the deregulations he pushed through. Stanton also replaced his Ministers for Defense and Agriculture with popular members of the left faction. While these moves brought Stanton modest support from the left, it cost him a great deal of support on his right. In early 2014, Stanton agreed to step down in favor of the Minister for Transport Michael Creed, an older TD who was well regarded across the party as a honest and hardworking Minister, and most importantly, with few enemies.

Despite a shaky start, Creed was boosted by the discovery of the Kinsale Head gas field in late 2014, which brought a great deal more energy to Ireland and sent energy prices falling when the project officially opened in 2016. Sinn Féin used this victory to propel them to their seventh straight electoral win, even gaining enough seats in 2017 to hold a slim majority. However, Sinn Féin enthusiasm has been steadily failing as the economic revitalization program stagnated and rising cost of various governmental programs, especially the new frigate program approved for the Navy. The Ecological Party has also seen steady gains in local governments, forming a coalition government with the Labour Party in Leinster, their first ever government. The 2019 Ulster elections are also a source of concern with Sinn Féin fragile coalition with the Official Ulster Party threatened by not only the Ecological Party, but also the Democratic Protestant Party under Ian Paisley Jr., son of the controversial former First Minister. Creed now has the unenviable task of continuing his party's winning tradition while facing heavy assault from all directions. Time will tell if Creed can successfully balance these interests before the next election.

This app is pretty much done?

Generic Info
Nation Name: The Holy Axumite Empire (alternatively, the Empire of Aksum)
Symbols: The official flag of Axum is one that looks like the Ethiopian Empire's old flags, except with a lot more Christian/Abrahamic imagery in a cornerpiece rather than centered; the center has a more traditional Ethiopian star. All imagery in symbols is very deeply rooted in Christianity/Abrahamic faith.
Location: The deep purple in Ethiopia/Arabia.
Population: Approx. 14 million.
Capital City: Axum/Aksum

Government Info
Government Type: Christian republican monarchy.
Brief Explanation of Government: The Holy Axumite Empire, otherwise known as the Empire of Aksum, is founded upon Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity and its values; thus, the New Orthodox Church, founded from the ashes of the EOC, holds a significant portion of power in government. There is minor religious freedom, mostly allowing for Jews and Muslims (in some cases; mostly in Arabia), but Christian law and Civil law often go hand-in-hand otherwise.

Axum's legislative branch is the Imperial Electorate, a unicameral legislature wherein half of the Electors are automatically of the highest-ranking clergy in the Church. The other half of the Electors are selected by the people. The head of the Electorate's speaker is referred to as the Prince-Elector. The Prince-Elector brings decrees and laws legislated by the Electorate to the Emperor, who holds the seat of absolute executive power and absolute veto power. The Prince-Elector, if the Emperor signs the law, announces new Imperial Decrees.

All laws are necessarily prescribed and accepted by the Church, given the Church assisted in their construction.

The seat of the Emperor is usually a position given to the Prince-Elector upon the Emperor's death, wherein a new Prince-Elector is selected by the Electorate. If a Prince-Elector dies, a new one is selected by the Electorate.

The judiciary branch is referred to as the Supreme Judiciary Council. The Council's members, referred to as Magistrates, are all selected by the Electorate. The SJC decides what is and is not constitutional, and what is and is not acceptable according to religious or civil law. They are the final arbiters of both the Imperial government's constitution, its decrees, etc. as well as acting as the voice of the Church on all religious matters regarding religious legality.

Because of this, the head of the Council - the Grand Magistrate - is actually the only position directly selected by the Church's Patriarch, to act as his voice in government and in matters that the SJC oversee.
Leader/s: Emperor Berhanu Selassie (head of state/government), Patriarch Ibrahim Tafari (head of the Church)
Relations: The Empire has complete and unrivaled control over trade going through the Red Sea towards the Gulf of Aden, and vice versa; they also have a strong influence over Eastern African and southern Arabian trade. They tend to have friendly relations with other governments who trade with them, but are not afraid to impose sanctions on those who they deem “unworthy” of their trade routes - namely, their enemies. The Empire's capital being inland and of high elevation, especially after the nuclear holocaust, has rendered their government almost unassailable - save for powers capable of making the journey.

Population Info
Religious Situation: A great majority of the country is formed of Christians belonging to what was once the EOC and is now the NOC that influences the Imperial government. There is little to no religious conflict within the nation's formerly Ethiopian borders, although those from what was once southern Arabia pose a very strong Islamic influence as well - hence the special exemptions to various religious laws given to some Muslims and most Jews, as well as the Arabian portion of the Empire being allowed to enact Sharia Law to a limited degree.
Culture(s): Predominantly Ethiopian, with a strong Arabic influence.

Military Info
Army: The Axumite Defense Forces are the primary and only branch of the military in the Empire. They are interchangeably referred to as the ADF and the Imperial Defense Forces/IDF. There are approximately 70,000 (give or take) troops within the ADF/IDF, all trained and equipped by 80s-level Ethiopian and Yemeni military arms and vehicles; only the most elite of the military has any up-to-date technology available to it, including the High Command and its ability to communicate with one another.

The Empire has various manufacturing plants that make more ammunition for these weapons as well as more parts for these weapons/vehicles, as they believe it is easier to replace and refuel the equipment they have (cheaper, as well) than to completely replace it with new things. Generals from the old Yemeni or Ethiopian armies who survived the nuclear holocaust and are still alive serve as some members of the High Command.
Navy: The Imperial Naval Forces, otherwise known as the Imperial Navy or the Axumite Naval Fleets, are formed up of numerous maintained and rebuilt/operational Ethiopian and Yemeni naval ships. Like the Defense Forces on land, the Naval Forces are more keen on replacing what they currently have over time and in the meantime making sure current equipment maintains function and can be replaced quickly and cheaply.

There are approximately 30,000 (give or take) naval personnel defending the Axumite's control over the Red Sea as well as their territories. They are all trained and equipped with 70s/80s level naval equipment from the old Ethiopian and Yemeni navies. Admirals from the old Yemeni or Ethiopian navies who survived the nuclear holocaust and are still alive serve as some members of the High Command.

Other Info
Goals: To spread Christianity, to keep themselves independent, to expand to control all of what was once Ethiopia, as well as the Horn of Africa and what remains of southern Arabia.
History: The Holy Axumite Empire was founded as a result of the Great Cataclysm, with the Orthodox Church making some reformations and the populace's fear that the nuclear holocaust was wrath from God against communism. All socialist and communist ideas were destroyed in this new revolution, even as the capital centered around Axum/Aksum due to the fact that the Ark of the Covenant is believed to be there by many of the Church and of the country.

It was a rather rough start, barely controlling a small portion of northern Ethiopia and bordering along the Red Sea. Of course, as time went on, the Empire grew in strength and faith, eventually coming to attract many other Christian settlements around them until a larger portion of Ethiopia was controlled. Trade through the Red Sea allowed the Empire to have some amount of wealth, as well as trade with their Arabian neighbors.

Concerned with the Christians present in the Islamic settlements, the Empire moved rather decisively to oust the Islamic governments of these Arabian coastal settlements to protect Christians and other Axumite interests in the Red Sea. Of course, to ease tensions, the Islamic members - along with Jews from the region, and in other parts of their borders - were allowed to govern themselves according to Sharia Law in neighborhoods and settlements where their population was strongest.

This has been the tradition in the Empire, even if technically there is no official change to the Imperial government's constitution to allow for this; thus, freedom of religion is exclusive to members of Abrahamic faiths, and Christianity is often favored in the non-Arabic regions of the Empire. With their control over the entrance to the Red Sea established, the Empire's wealth and influence over the sea trade through the Red Sea as well as the Gulf of Aden became extremely pronounced, allowing for their economy and strength to increase much further.

The Empire of Aksum stands tall today as an extremely capitalistic nation with very, very strong religious values - fundamentalist in the Christian sense, even. It is also a member of the Association of Nations, though it has yet to submit to some of the Association's treaties and requests - especially regarding various human rights situations - its rather strong influence over trade going through East Africa towards Europe has allowed it some level of leeway.

I am perfectly willing to shrink my nation's territories or alter its history, etc. as the OP Board requires.

As for RP Samples, would a makeshift 'IC' post suffice? Or would you prefer if I found one of my older posts to share?

I'm not sure about it expanding into Yemen or having the capabilities to do so, I think it'd be better if it generally remained in the Horn.

I mean, that's fair. If that's what's needed to get my app accepted, I'm willing to confine Axum to the Horn; I can alter the app if that's required.

Generic Info
Nation Name: People's Republic of China
Symbols: Flag of the People's Republic of China
Anthem of the People's Republic of China: March of the Volunteers
Location: The Red Zone in Shanxi, as marked on the map
Population: 17,450,000
Capital City: Taiyuan

Government Info
Government Type: Unitary Maoist one-party totalitarian dictatorship
Brief Explanation of Government: Following the Great Collapse (referred to by the CPC as "火热的夜晚", or "The Fiery Night"), the remnants of the Chinese government in Taiyuan began a process of "Maoist Restoration", purging perceived traitors and cryptocapitalists from the government while bringing in Maoist hardliners who promised to reclaim the nation and rebuild China. This has centralized most power in the hands of the General Secretary, sidelining the Politburo in favor of an absolute dictator.
Leader/s: General Secretary Bo Xilai is the nation's Head of Government, while Kong Qingdong serves as Premier.
Relations While fostering positive relations with the DPRK to the North, the People's Republic of China is remarkably hostile towards its rival claimants to China, along with the 'Bandits and Rogue States' that control most of the region.

Population Info
State Religion As an anti-revisionist Maoist government, the government does not endorse a state religion. However, a strong personality cult does exist, centered around Mao and his legacy.
Religious Policy: State Atheism
Religious Situation: A small minority practices Chinese folk religion, while most of the populace follows no religion.
State Ethnicity: Han Chinese make up the overwhelming majority of the People's Republic's citizenry.
Other Ethnicities: Manchu and Mongolian minorities exist within Shanxi, but they are more often than not persecuted on dubious charges of counterrevolutionary activity.
Slavery: Officially speaking, slavery is illegal within the People's Republic of China. However, in practice, a large system of work camps exist to provide food and building materials to the government.
Ethics: The remnants of China's communist government place a strong emphasis on socialist economics and a nationalist outlook. Which is to be valued more, however, is constantly debated within the Party.

Military Info
Army: The People's Liberation Army, while still the official land branch of China's armed forces, has largely been neutered in favor of the Red Guards, which have been reforged and militarized by General Secretary Bo's policies.
Navy:

Other Info
Goals: Reunite China, and reindustrialize the broken nation!
History: To say that China was a glorious worker's paradise before the bombs dropped would be nothing short of the most absurd propaganda. While China was in shambles from political instability for the past few decades, the apocalypse did not do wonders to improve the popularity of Deng Xiaoping's reformist government. Generic Info
Nation Name: The Magyar People's Union
Symbols: Our flag can be found here.
Location: Current-day Hungary.
Population: 2.67 million people
Capital City: Budapest

Government Info
Government Type: People's Democratic republic
Brief Explanation of Government: Socialism through multi-class, multi-party democracy
Leader/s: Barnat Szilveszter
Relations None at the very moment, seeing as communication between the European Communes would be iffy due to fallout.

Leader Info
Name: Barnat Szilveszter
Age: 21
Skills, Education and Experience: A member of the Hunters of Budapest, food-gatherers for the capital of the Commune. Rose to prominence in his society through public speeches and his ability to lead the Hunters in the field. (Sort of like a warrior leader)
Family Members: Szent Ferenc (Father) and Zsofia Katalin (Mother)
Advisers: Bruno Straub (Head of State), Miklos Nemeth (Head of Government)
History: Born in 1997 in a suburban quarter of Budapest, Hungary, Barnat belonged to an unfortunate group of individuals who have long suffered underneath the spectre of communism and the atrocities committed by its Russian leaders. Even after the fall in 1983, Hungary still remained a People's Republic, and operated in a Stalin-like way: violently. SInce he was old enough to read and write, Barnat vowed to take matters into his own hands and make a change for the better. At 12 he graduated elementary, and at 17 he graduated from his higher education, and was then conscripted into the Hunters of Budapest to gather food for his other countrymen and women. He proved to be quite able-bodied and a good shot to boot, which brought him some status in his community. He used this to his advantage and started speaking to the public more and more, garnering him some support for any possible electoral ventures. He ran for General Secretary in Spring of 2016, and Barnat received a majority vote under promises to free the people from this oppressive communism, via reforming it to model new, modern ideas that weren't so draconic and reliant on the use of secret police. It would still be communism, but it would be communism where everyone had a hand in.

Population Info
State Religion Catholicism
Religious Policy Secular policy. Anyone who is a citizen of the MPU may practice whatever religion they like. Although the state religion is Catholicism, Catholic teachings are not harshly enforced.
Religious Situation Majority Christian state with a minor population of Muslims in the southern regions.
State Ethnicity Magyar Hungarians (ethnic, native Hungarians)
Other Ethnicities Romani Hungarians (of Romanian descent), Swabian Hungarians (of German descent) and Slovaks
Slavery: The MPU does not practice slavery. As a former subject of the Austro-Hungarian empire, the MPU must respect the Congress of Vienna, signed in 1815, which outlawed slavery in all major European powers. Even though it is old, we still follow the laws of our forefathers.
Ethics: Generally considered a somewhat laissez-faire state, the General Secretary still controls many aspects of the people's lives, but laws are in place which limit what they can and can't control. The MPU enjoys being a sedentary state, but within its borders many dissident tribes still migrate through the Hungarian plains, not conforming to any government. While the people of the commune are happy with Barnat's leadership, it's people are still martial, ready for any combat they might encounter.

Military Info - Army
Chief of Staff: The Hungarian Army Remnants Commision controls the Hungarian Armed Forces. The HARC consists of 5 elected high-ranking military officials every 4 years.
Commander Selection: Commanders in the MPU are selected through show of bravery and valour in the field.
Weaponry: AK-63's are favoured among the infantrymen of the HAF. BTR-80's are used as armour in the field as well.
Sophistication: As a fledgling state, the current condition of the HAF is not the best, but basic training is supplied to all enlisted. The army is not a professional one, but it is an able-bodied fighting force.
Levying: All men who have graduated higher education or have turned 17 are conscripted into the military/branch of the military.
Army Size 100,000 current standing personnel with another 200,000 in reserve. In wartime, total standing personnel can reach about 500,000 men and women with the aid of further conscription laws and youth brigades.

Military Info - Navy
Naval Size The MPU does not have a navy.

Other Info
Goals: Stabilize the interior of Hungary by either removing or assimilating migrating tribes, establish a capable military force, establish a stable source of food, expand the borders of Hungary and spread the revolution.
History: A very brief history: Since the fall of 1983, Hungary has still been under the spectre of stalinism, and has been plagued by lack of food, violent demonstrations in the capital and an ever-brewing national dislike of the stalinist leaders. Until 2018, the MPU has remained relatively stable, save the nomadic bands of vagabonds and criminals who plague small villages and raid arms depots for weapons and prisoners. Since the 2016 general election, the state has been in a much better place, with food becoming more available, troops becoming better trained, and a national campaign against the roaming tribes has been created. Hungary, now out of Stalin's firm grasp, is becoming a beacon of what socialism should've been under its leader, Barnat Szilveszter.

Franz Joseph was looking out over a silent Budapest on the balcony of the parliament building accompanied by a brisk northern wind.

All was calm on the balcony until a soldier came up to him and told him that the radio had picked up a frequency.
Franz rushed into the building and into the radio room to see the transcripts of the message.

We are the new Union of Soviet Socialist Republics! Located in a small settlement in Eastern Europe. We have just recently established communications and wish to know if other settlements exist in this harsh world!
If anyone is out there...Please respond.

Franz was very excited to hear from someone outside the settlement for this first time in his life. He was quick to respond to the message.

Hello communist brethren. We are the Communist Hungarian Republic, and the person speaking right now is their leader, Franz Joseph. We are very happy to hear from another settlement. Our settlement resides in Budapest, Hungary. If you are close enough, we can possibly schedule a meeting, or a summit of some sort. Thank you for broadcasting this message. Goodbye.

Franz was so excited that he started to list the things he was thankful to have in his settlement.
He was thankful for the hot springs that the country was built on, providing a place of relaxation for his citizens.
He was thankful for the advanced agriculture policies he had in place to maximize production of food.
He was happy for the army he had, protecting the walls.
He was happy for the scientists he had employed, for they were working on a motorcycle that was efficient on fuel and required little parts to build.
Last of all, he was happy for himself, because he caused this new "industrial revolution" to happen in his settlement, and he was proud.

After that, he went back out to the balcony, and surveyed his citizens.
