Adapted from “Unto the Breach” by Bentus and “A Gate of Iron” by Rupudska Operation Gatelord: A Gate RP 97th Mechanized Infantry Battalion Scout Platoon M I S S I O N The GATE anime/manga/web series/light novel IP by Takumi Yana has always hinted heavily towards being more JSDF-centric and has been criticised as being ultimately too militaristic for what it was supposed to be. Brief but none-too-subtle nods towards popular American films set in the series of conflicts that made up the Vietnam War, have led to many demanding that in the derivative works, fan-fictions, and RP’s such similar allusions are made. That buck stops here, and goes for the gold with the allusions being cast out in favor for the real thing. The year is 1971, and somewhere in rural Kansas a flash of light and the ripping of the fabric of our reality as it is forcefully merged with a world beyond our wildest dreams creates the structure known only to US military intelligence officers as “The Gate”. Taking place roughly three months post-invasion of Kansas by an unknown force of mixed human and beast militants, the US Army has finally begun to develop a means to begin reinforcing the captured base on the other end of the interdimensional portal called “The Gate”. Pushing through the auspicious teleportation device of fantastical origin, players will take on the role of soldiers assigned to the expeditionary force of US Army infantry tasked with determining the origin of the attack on the major city of Emporia, Kansas. In the original concept of GATE, the series follows a relatively small platoon-sized element of elite soldiers as they scout out the local countryside around the GATE, becoming involved in multiple major conflicts breaking out as a result of various geopolitical sub-plots. Here, the patrols are long, hard, and depleted of supplies and resources as the players take on the roles of soldiers within the scout platoon of the 97th Infantry Battalion. We will be going with relative realism, granted that there is a need to acknowledge that the Unknown Zone (Special Region’s name within this RP) is a world that heavily features magic and fantasy elements that otherwise would fly in the face of what we know to be true in our own world and our own reality. S I T R E P The year is 1971 and America has been at war for nearly seventeen years in a land far from their own. Tiring of the war effort and constant conscription and drafting of soldiers into the ranks of its military force, the US Department of Defense has been facing the rising pressure to withdraw from what has been seen as a war that is not its own. As it seemed there could be no means for saving face, perhaps a stroke of incredibly good luck presented itself in the form of an invasion on American soil. The only problem being the invasion had come from another world, and had begun in Kansas. On the week of June the Twentieth, an unknown and undeclared military force, hailing from an unknown country carried out an invasion of rural Kansas and the nearby city of Emporia, Kansas. As the Battle of Emporia unfolded, and military forces being held in reserve throughout the United states for deployment to Vietnam were mobilized, an estimated total of thirty-thousand civilians were killed or captured and taken as slaves and prisoners through an unknown construct. By the end of the three-day Battle of Emporia, United States Army forces held the construct now dubbed “The Gate” by the United States Department of Defense. For almost two weeks, United States Army forces at “The Gate” held out against ensuing waves of hostile forces before finally receiving the order to invade. What followed for those who went through first was a nearly five day long battle for singular control of the terrain that lay directly on the opposite side. Taking nearly two-hundred casualties from assorted indirect fire from enemy artillery of unknown or otherwise unidentified origin, the forces of the United States Army prevailed and captured Hill 001. For seven weeks, the United States Army has slowly been consolidating their forces, constructing atop Hill 001 the first and only military encampment known to exist on another world, FOB Janus. Now serving as home to the nearly 12,000 strong garrison, it is the staging ground for what may become the largest invasion force in modern military history. Determining the need for increased and up-to-date situational awareness of the terrain surrounding the Hill and wishing to identify and eliminate key concentrations and build up of enemy forces in the region, the commanding general of FOB Janus, Brigadier General Rupert J. Brenus has ordered the dispatching of infantry units into the neighboring countryside and the usage of any and all available air, armor, mechanized, and motor assets for aiding the scouting parties. One such party, the 97th Mechanized Infantry Battalion Scout Platoon (BANDIT) has been assigned with moving along the 330-30 degree arc from FOB Janus to a maximum distance of 400 miles and to report on all significant terrain and important landmarks and enemy positions along that line. Biography:Everson was born in 1947 to WW2 veteran Pete Daniels and British immigrant Lucile Martin, whom Pete had met while preparing for Operation Overlord. After the war, the two had settled in Baltimore, first with Pete’s parents, until they moved out in 1946 to found their own family. Living was tough, but there was no shortage in jobs for either Lucile or Pete, especially in the post-war boom. Pete worked as a car mechanic, while did administrative work. In the segregated economy most of the cars Pete got to service were old monsters on the verge of being declared a total loss, but here Pete learned the value of hot fixes. He could make any heap of metal drive again for next to nothing. Times were tight, especially when they got their first three sons and a daughter, but they managed to come by. They even managed to earn enough money for a single college fund for Howard university.

Their four children grew up happy despite their economic situation. They learned how to rely on one another. Everson, the second-oldest, was very much the middle child. He wasn’t treated like an angel by his parents, but he didn’t have the authority of his older brother. He did have his wits, though, and managed to get out of trouble more than once by blaming his brothers. He had the best relation with their sister too. Derrek, his older brother, was always more of a sporting man, and got into college football. Pete Junior, his younger brother, wasn’t too bright and had a talent for mechanics, so he would take over his dad’s business. Everson, being clever and doing well in school, was eventually picked to go to Howard University to study medicine. Although, Everson did lament that his sister wasn’t eligible to study at Howard.

Being motivated by the accomplishments of both his parents and of his siblings, Everson took to his studies with vigour. He took notes, studied them carefully, copied them for his classmates and sold them for a tiny profit. Howard had a lot of hard-working students from poor backgrounds, so there was never a lack of motivation, although there was a lack of funding. Since university students were not eligible for the draft, the university remained occupied, although others were indeed drafted. Among those was his brother Trevon, who went to Vietnam in one of the earlier waves. The letters he sent back were heavily edited, but the family got a taste of what Vietnam was like. Eventually, Pete Junior was drafted as well. While he got near the end of his studies, and with the footage of the war trickling back into America, Everson got the feeling that he needed to do something. It felt wrong to be studying while his brothers were out fighting. Just before the last year of his studies, Everson managed to get a deal with Howard. He would enlist, and his grades would remain in place for when he returned, so he could always finish his studies.

So, Everson went into basic training. As a medical student, the path open to him was clear: the army could always use new combat medics, so he took the 16 week course to become one. Having nearly finished his studies he progressed in several levels, and elected to become as broad of a medic as possible in case that were needed. Having the necessary knowledge already, Everson breezed through the various courses, attaining the rank of sergeant with various specialisations under his belt. When he was ready to be shipped out to Vietnam, the Kansas Gate opened, and his unit was instead redirected to deal with the threat.

From what I can tell from the OP [and knowing the OP from the old RPs] I can say with about 90% assurance that it is canon style GATE, though we're going to see a lot more magical influence than the Anime or either of the previous RPs [Excluding yours]

Biography: Aaron Peters, the son of Hellen and Gregory Peters, was born and raised in Chicago. He did well in school, joining a boxing club when he was 9. He learned to fight for what he wanted and protect what he loved. His dad was a world war 2 veteran, and as such went to university before becoming an accountant at a local company. He was raised with two younger brothers and didn't really get along well with them. When he was 15 his dad lost his job after the company closed. His family hit hard times after this, realizing he wasn't going to be able to afford college, he decided to enlist in the army after he graduated. He would get his GI bill after a couple of years of service and then go to college. But for now he would just be a mere soldier.

Personality: Overall more logical and pragmatic but sometimes his emotions get the better of him. Has a moderate ego especially buffed by his accomplishments in the world of boxing.

There will not be civilian translators or diplomats as of yet in this point of Operation Gatelord. The US Army is more interested in total suppression of the enemy's fighting power. I'd recommend bringing an M67 Recoilless Rifle, that'd be the weapon the US Army was using at the time of the Vietnam War. Otherwise, looking forward to your application!

From what I can tell from the OP [and knowing the OP from the old RPs] I can say with about 90% assurance that it is canon style GATE, though we're going to see a lot more magical influence than the Anime or either of the previous RPs [Excluding yours]

I can say you're pretty much on the money here NUC. This Empire will be heavily similar to the Canonical empire, but additionally will be more magic-heavy and of course, this is war so we can't do with having things be all cutesy all the time. Expect things to be more true-to-life in regards to how the empire works. Consider the following: This is the sort of magic that was witnessed at the battle of Emporia, and is why nearly 20,000 civilians were killed before they could be taken through the gate and rather were incinerated alongside a massive amount of troops from the empire.

Magic is no joke, and is incredibly dangerous, the magic user who fired the shot that leveled half of Emporia has also yet to be identified as interrogators are still attempting to learn the language of the land from prisoners.

I need a couple of edits from you before I accept this application, minor stuff that really won't take much time, but will add to quality of life for the IC:

1. I'd really rather have you add something in about your character's personality as this will be in their Character Summary within the Cast Listing of the OP. Your application isn't so much for the quick reference of other characters as it is for me and my Co-Ops so I'd appreciate it being filled out to the best of your ability.

2. The M16A2 does not exist at this time in history. I'd recommend swapping out the weapon for the M16A1 which was the standard issue variant at the time. Your character, do realize, does not have to be wearing all of their gear all of the time and while I appreciate that you don't know much and will rather be taking the standard load-out for infantry of this era, do realize that familiarizing yourself with the equipment of the period will enable you to more effectively utilize your character across the various types of interactions and events which may come about.

Biography: Michael was born in the small town of Mason in 1947 as an only child to Richard Poole a WW2 vet who fought in Italy during the war and his mother Clelia Poole an Italian women who Richard had met while serving in Italy. Michael was close with his parents they had a stable financial situation and Michael did well in school and was a part of the wrestling team. So Michael's childhood was normal and happy.

But unfortunately when Michael was 19 Clelia was contract cancer and despite treatments would die and Richard in devastation became depressed and committed suicide. Due to this tragedy Michael became incredibly introverted not depressed but just quiet. Along with this due to medical and funeral costs Michael did not have enough money to go to college. And he did not want to join the military and fight in Vietnam. So he using his athletic background got a job as bouncer to a club in Cincinnati when he was 20. He hated it the obnoxious drunk people, the sounds of a loud bustling city, the loud parties it was awful for him.

So after a year of this Michael was unhappy with his job and along with guilt that his father at his age was fighting the Nazis and their allies and that now his countrymen were off fighting Michael decided to enlist. He went through all of the basic training which he excelled in and after around 27 months after he enlisted he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and was prepared to ship out to Vietnam. But then the Gate in Kansas opened and his unit was rerouted to deal with this new threat.

Personality: He is a very quiet and reserved person preferring to only to speak when necessary like to shout out a warning or pointing something out. He does not hate people per say he just prefers to think instead of talk.

Unfortunately due to the Army taking the lead on the invasion of the UZ, General Brenus has restricted the AIr Force's ground presence to the area immediately around the Gate. Otherwise, RTO's on the ground are acting combat controllers, and Army Pathfinders are taking the lead on most other actions. Take the UZ as sort of the Army's playground right now until the Invasion really gets underway.
