The Pisans and Genoese did it in RL so stranger things has happened. But with Genoa my de facto ally and Pisa an NPC I suppose a coalition with the prerequisite sea power is difficult to envision.

Nation Name: Empire of Transcaucasia
Capital: Tibilisi
Government Type: Imperial
Head of Government: Emperor
Dynasty/Family Name: Bolkvadze
Population: 1.6 million
Eligible Military Population: 80,000
Territorial Claims: Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Northern Caucasus & Pontic Steppe
State Religion: Orthodox Christianity
Dominant Religion: Orthodoxy Christianity
Minority religions: Shi'ia Islam, Paganism
Religious Information: The Empire is majority Orthodox, although there includes a sizeable minority of Islamic sectors. The Empire has made it a custom to be welcoming of various religious identities & inclusive of their needs within the State apparatus.
Economy Information: The economy is largely based on trade through the Caucasus, with her neighbors the Byzantines & Iranian dynasties. Being closer to the silk road means that the Empire over it's history has had closer relations and ties with merchant and trade lines throughout the region.
Military Information: With a smaller military, the Empire has seen it paramount to keep it up to date and modern. Specialized greatly for mountainous warfare, especially within the mountains. The military of the Transcaucasian Empire is centered around speed and mobility, rather than heavy troops who would have far more trouble within the mountainous lands of the Caucasus.
History: The Transcaucasian Empire, first establishment was as a Kingdom centered around the modern day region of Georgia. After decades of war & royal marriages. The Georgian Kingdom would eventually unite the Armenian and Azerbaijani states into a Imperial Union during the Byzantine-Sassanian wars. Over this period the Union would centralize, extending relations to their Orthodox and Islamic neighbors in friendly gestures. Aiming to establish trade ties and a neutral policy regarding their Southern borders.
Rather than expanding South, the Emperor’s longstanding lineage, would view the north as a better alternative. Slowly settling the Northern Caucasus with goals of eventually expanding into the Pontic Steppe. Viewing the lands above as being more fertile and potentially rich in resources, than the South. Looking to mainly use the Southern lands as a economic source through trade than conquest.
Ruler's Name: Giorgi Bolkvadze
Ruler's: Age: 29
Ruler's Personality: Friendly, wise, quiet & cautious
Physical Appearance: Giorgi Bolkvadze, stands around 5'8”, with dark brown hair, a fair complexion, brown eyes with the usual Caucasian ruggedness one would come to expect from the region. Albeit, some could say his facial structure is closer to that of a Indo-Iranian than that of a Steppe person's or Levantines. That said, he's been known to be average in looks, while his paintings usually depict him slightly above.
Ruler's Family Information: The Bolkvadze, family has existed as a ruling family within the Caucasus since their power grab and establishment of the Georgian Kingdom. Cementing themselves as the dominant titular body of power after the Union of the other Caucasus Kingdoms, cementing their rule within the area.
Ruler's History: Giorgi, is responsible for many of the recent military reforms. Having invited multitudes of engineers from surrounding states, he's been heavily influenced by both the Christian and Islamic world. Seen as a bridge between the two, many nobles within his court view him as the most accepting and tolerant of the Empires rulers in known history up to this point. He retains the same ambitions of his ancestors, to begin settling the Pontic Steppe and ensuring the survival of his Empire in the long term.

And the same can be applied to the Normans, you're better off fucking the Muslims over than bog yourself here in the Adriatic.
