Was wondering if you wanted someone to help out Hadrian pronto? I could send Yvonne to try and stabilise his condition (though she prob wouldn't be able to heal him back properly in the middle of a fight), but then she'd prob have to avoid helping with the big baddie.

It would probably help, as he fainted from pain (which is pretty bad), but if it risks Yvonne, then it's better to wait until the big monster's dead.

Bio:
Born under a dark moon on some forgotten shore to a now nameless tribe, little is known of Steinarr's early years on this Earth. We do know is that at some point early on in the lads life, he was taken as a captive during one of the countless raids that frequented up and down his coastline by one of the other seafaring berserker clans and press ganged into service as a child soldier.

Steinarr was subject to rampant abuse at the hands of his Taskmasters and the clans Clerics as they both sought to break the young lad in both body and soul and turn him into one of their many followers. By day, he was subject to the iron will of the Taskmasters as they instructed fresh "recruits" into the finer points of warfare, often with the emphasis of a whip being applied for good measure to punish those who failed to meet the standard. By night, those able to still physically stand were chained to what was referred to as the "wheel of pain" and forced to conduct hard labor in their sleep deprived delirium while the Clerics of the clan filled their minds with propaganda and prophecy. Being deprived of food, given enough sanitation and medical treatment only to survive, being beaten on a daily basis, these were the things that defined his young life and of those around him and drove many to take their own lives whenever an opportunity presented itself to do so. By the time Steinarr turned thirteen, he was one of only a handful of survivors from his original group.

One fateful day, the Taskmasters pulled the young men and women from their pits and formed them up in ranks as if for drill. However, instead of being issued the traditional blunt practice weapons and armor used in training, they were issued the real steel versions based upon their performance with them and given sets of clan armor, minus the actual markings. The head Taskmaster, flanked on both sides by Clerics, then informed the group that it was time for them to prove that they were ready for ascension and elevated into the ranks of the berserker clan as full fledged members of it's warrior caste. To prove their loyalty was to be run through the riggers of hellfire itself on a distant battlefield.

Failure, would mean certain death.

With no other option, Steinarr set sail with the Clan to a not so distant shore, where he and his fellow initiates cut a bloody path through an unsuspecting village not much unlike his own all those years ago with almost unmatched ease. Towards the end of the battle, an exhausted and blood stained Steinarr came across a wood plank barn and discovered inside almost a dozen women and children as they attempted to take shelter from the battle raging outside. Steinarr stood mute like a statue among the cries of the innocent as the years flashed before his eyes, hitting him with a surge of emotion so strong that it made him gasp for air as if kicked by a horse in the chest. With resolute belief and a single tear forming in his eye, the man hardened the remainder of his heart, for deep down he knew what must be done to prevent a lifetime of suffering and pain for these people. Reaching down, he picked up a wooden mallet used for hammering away wooden pegs and calmly stepped forward toward the group of people.

When he was found a short time later, standing among the broken and mangled bodies by his Taskmaster, Steinarr willingly surrendered himself to the judgement that he knew was coming and fully welcomed the sweet release that his death would bring from this world of misery. He was beaten and stripped of all his belongings before eventually being chained and lead back to the longships in disgrace. While the majority of his group stayed behind in celebration of their initiation, Steinarr was ferried back early by the Clerics and his Taskmaster in one of the smaller vessels to be publicly executed for his incompetence and made an example out of. However, things don't always go as planned..

Midway back, a storm intercepted the ship carrying Steinarr of unusual strength and ferocity. During the gale, a particularly large wave crashed against the planked hull of the ship with enough force that it spalled the interior, sending splinters of wood flying throughout the cabin where he was being held. With much surprise, Steinarr quickly noticed that the wall mounted bracket that he was chained too had not only come loose from the impact, but was actively leaking icy cold water as well. Gathering his strength, the man braced both legs against the wall and with a mighty tug, ripped the remainder of the bracket off the wall and freed himself. Trapped in the middle of the sea in a raging storm aboard a ship that was taking on water, the end one way or another certainly seemed like a certainty, and if he was destined to die on this fateful day, then he was damned sure that others were going to join him on his journey.

The howling wind passing through the creaking ship muffled out the blood curling screams as Steinarr got his revenge one passenger at a time, starting with his Taskmaster first, then the Clerics, then finally anyone else who presented themselves on the ship. By the time the man was finished, the decking ran crimson as the blood mixed in with the foaming salt water that came splashing overhead. With nothing left to say or do, the man tied himself to the central mast of the ship with a bit of rope and waited for the end to come. With the wind and rain battering his face sideways, the man did something that he had not done in all the years since his capture.

He smiled, for in the end, he was finally and truly free.

How the man managed to survive the sinking of the ship, we will never know. What we do know, is that his body was found by scavengers, washed up on the sandy shores among the wreckage of the ship. Upon being found to be alive, he was once again placed into shackles and hauled off as a slave to be sold to the highest bidder in backwater markets. He was eventually bought by a man who ran a gladiatorial arena who was in need of fresh fodder for his prized fighters to be pitted against. However, it didn't take long for the man to realize that he had made a most terrible mistake and that he had got more then he bargained for when he bought the half dead castaway. Within a few short years, the "Barbarian" as he was soon called by his fans for his purely rage filled fights against anyone and everyone sent against him, had made short work of the mans prized pit fighters using whatever weapons he was given. While this delighted the audiences and built him a massive fan base, it cost the owner a small fortune in money and angered the man to the point that he plotted to have Steinarr, now a man in his late teens, killed off quietly.

One night, the arena guards approached his cell and extracted the man, placing him in a horse drawn cage claiming that he was being transported to a larger arena a few days away for a special fight. The cart soon after departed the arena and disappeared into the surrounding forest, heading deeper into the inner countryside. After traveling for a few hours, the cart stopped just before dawn deep in the woods. The three guards dismounted and before long, it was clear to Steinarr what their true intentions were as they opened his cage and led him out still shackled to the edge of the road, where he was made to kneel with force.

With his executioner standing directly behind him, one more off to his side, and the third man a short distance away tending to the horses, Steinarr made his move. As the man raised the ax in his hand to bring it down upon his neck, Steinarr reached down and grabbing hold of a fist sized rock from the road, lashed out with it and managed to strike the man upside his throat and chin with his awkward throw. The man cried out in pain and dropped the ax that was in his hands, which Steinarr grabbed with both his cuffed hands before swinging it sideways towards the other man, cleanly cutting through the mans ankle and removing him from his foot. As he fell over in pain, grabbing at his stump, Steinarr stood up and faced the last man standing a short distance away. The man looked at him in bewilderment before turning to run away. He didn't make it very far, as the ax seemed to magically sprout from the mans back right between the shoulder blades, bringing him down as well. After a few short minutes of handwork, the other two men were finished and Steinarr cut himself free.

To cover his tracks, Steinarr placed his own issued gear set on one of the guards bodies placing all the bodies back into the wagon. He then cut the horses loose before setting fire to the wagon, making it hopefully look like everyone was killed during a bandit raid. Taking what he could, as well as one of the horses, the man set off down the road and into the unknown to make a new life for himself.

Over the course of the next decade, Steinarr found himself as a default mercenary of sorts, putting his knowledge and skills to work solving problems for those with the coin to pay him as a means of getting by. He was worked both by himself and with others on several occasions during jobs that required it, and has earned himself a decent amount of coin to afford and maintain the gear that he needs to get the jobs done. He wanders the lands on his trusty steed, stopping at taverns and inns as he goes always looking for the next big score.


Heroic Boon: None yet as am not a member of the Legion at this time.

Abilities:
  • Natural Born Soldier: Steinarr has a natural proficiency with arms and armor and knows how to expertly use/wield them to get the most positive benefit possible. For example, wearing even full plate for him feels as comfortable and natural as wearing clothing for others. Steinarr also finds strategic and tactical thinking to be pretty much second nature to him as well, enabling him to spot/notice strengths and weaknesses in his surrounding that others might not.
  • Wilderness Survival: Having been a soldier for most of his life, Steinarr has learned first hand what it takes to survive in the wilderness and possesses the common skills needed to do just that, such as foraging.
  • Horsemanship: Steinarr is no stranger to mounts or mounted combat.
  • Armor Smithing : Over the years, Steinarr has owned many different styles of armor and has learned trough trial and error what works and what doesn't in being able to rebuild and maintain them. While he does not have the skill to build a suite from scratch, he most certainly can make replacement parts or modifications to an existing set to better suit his needs.
  • Weapon Smithing : Same goes for weapons as well.
  • Garbage Gut: Living a soldiers life is hard even at the best of times. As such, Steinarr has at times had to eat some otherwise unthinkable things just to survive. As such, he now has no problem eating things that others might object to without a second thought, such as meat from unknown sources, food either slightly or on the verge of being spoiled, and other such things.
  • Tinker: Sometimes on the battlefield, you just have to make do with what you have on hand. As such, Steinarr has learned to make the most out of a shitty situation and problem solve using rather unorthodox methods.
  • Emotionally Dull: Having been in countless battles, one must learn to live with death at your doorstep and come to terms with the fragility of not only your friends lives, but yours as well. As such, Steinarr has become firmly detached from some common human values and now views peoples lives as insignificant in the grand scheme. Should the need arise, he will not hesitate to shove a blade into someones throat without a moments notice and will physically feel nothing of it but discomfort for having to now clean his blade.

Limitations:
  • Magically Inept: No magical ability whatsoever.
  • Non Spiritual: If the gods existed, then truly they have forsaken the world to allow such hatred and bloodshed that Steinarr has experienced his whole life to go unchecked. If they do exist, then they are not worthy of his time or prayers and anyone who believes otherwise is either foolish or misguided.
  • PTSD: The ghosts of this mans past, still haunt him to this day.

    Upper Body: Padded Gambeson with a layer of 4in1 riveted chainmail over the top, chest and back covered by an fully articulated cuirass with deflection v added below arming point for bevor center mass
    Arms: Padded Gambeson with a layer of 4in1 riveted chainmail over the top, fitted vambrace
    Hands: Leather Glove with chain mail sewn across the back, clam shell style articulated gauntlets
    Lower Body: Gambeson Padded Leggings with chainmail chausses overlay, fitted hinged greaves, front and back tassets
    Feet: Traditional thick cut leather jackboot
    Extra: Fur lined canvas traveling cloak, double wrap sword belt with several leather pouches and scabbard attached, basic adventurers kit
    (NOTE: Steinarr's armor is darkened from age and use and thus isn't shiny or polished in any way.)

  • Weapon: Spontoon styled spear
    Weapon: Riveted war-pick
    Weapon: Arming Sword
    Weapon: Round Shield slung over back, with a faded almost invisible crest across it's dented and pitted front
  • Mount: Black Mare roughly 15-16hands in height that's been around long enough not to spook easily. Weathered and used tack set, including a generic cover, custom bridle, and well broken in saddle with attached bags

Apologies for everyone in the goblin group, have been busy and never could get to actually sitting down for a post here. I'll start on it now and I'll be damned if I don't get it done in one sitting!

Well I have a few issued i want to bring up as right now i can't accept this app. First the bio, I find it to be very unconnected to the setting and lore as everything in his origin is very vague as his tribe isn't described or named, it doesn't say their location, it doesn't say what Taskmasters are, or what the war is. Furthermore, it seems too grimdark for this setting's tone as I doubt the legion would take someone in who has the blood of many villagers, women, and children on their hands as he seems to; he'd do more to draw the Paean Legion's ire than make them want to hire him.

For his abilities I have other issues. I don't really get what Tinker is supposed to mean and right now it doesn't seem that much of an ability as well as Emotionally Dull. For his limitations, I'm more looking for limitations in what he can do rather than personality traits. As an example Non spiritual is really a limitation in any sense i can see. For my final thought, i can't really accept the app in good conscience as it stands now.


OP Announcement: As a reminder for the Goblin contract, I'd like to remind those gobbo hunters of the two traps in the cave's entrance. That is all. :)

Bio: Sieglind was not originally from the land of the flames and deserts and skies. She instead hailed from the land of her parents, the place called the Heartlands. So why did such a young girl find her way and place in the Southern Desert? Talk to her parents. They chose to leave their homeland and live with their distant relatives there.

While there, Sieglind was personally taught by her grandmother. Her grandmother was a retired warrior who now takes care of camels and goats for her family and travelers and herders. Sieglind was trained to be careful but also to be brave when she had to be and to be hospitable to others. She was taught honor, justice, standing up for those who are weaker, daily prayer and most of all, loyalty. Along with these values, she was taught how to take care of animals, how to survive in the desert, how to respect the dragons and speak with them and how to use the sand to her advantage.

It turned out that Sieglind inherited the magical powers of her grandmother. Together they trained and played every day with the sand. Sometimes, Sieglind used her powers to help her grandmother while her grandmother would either teach her a new lesson on her powers or simply fool around with her when there are no animals to care for.

Soon enough, Sieglind lost her grandmother. She died in her sleep, leaving Sieglind alone with her other relatives of this land. Her parents were gone too, having given themselves to the massive flame in the center of the desert. She too thought of ending her time on this world by diving into the fire. But she went against that, deciding to make a vow to the desert that she would live and that she would find someone to be loyal to. Something to fight for. Somewhere to go.

So she asked her relatives, her friends and her mentors. She too approached the dragons and any merchants or visitors from the other lands. She got her answer multiple times: Go to the Legion. So she went.

And look! She now was accepted by the Legion as both a caretaker for animals and a guide and a guard. Sieglind earned her nick name Streuen which meant "sprinkle with sand."

It however was a surprise for her when she realized that the boon given to her by the good stone of the Legion was something that allowed her to create and manipulate glass from sand!
Heroic Boon: Her boon is the ability to turn and use sand to create glass with magic alone. Sieglind is able to use her boon when it is activated at will. Her boon is displayed to others as gauntlets (as seen in picture). With these blessed gauntlets, she could easily turn sand into glass and bend it to her will.
Abilities:
  • Sand Generation: Sieglind can create sand out of magic alone. However, this requires a lot of magical energy. It makes it easier for her to make sand if she is in or near a desert or any place with a lot of sand or ingredients for sand. She could even manipulate sand and when she is standing on sand or on any earth that is fine more or less to bend and use to her will, she could feel vibrations and tell where something or someone is coming from. It's also a reason why she chose to go barefoot or just to wear slippers/sandals. She could only exercise seismic sensing on literal ground or dirt. Stones block her as much as other materials.
  • Desert Adaptations: Sieglind is adapted to the desert. She goes with the capability to go longer without water or food and to use it more efficiently (including reduced need for sustenance), skin or body systems which better deal with heat (reducing its intake, tolerating it, or getting rid of it) and the cold of deserts as well as the ever-present sand, and perhaps coloration close to the color of the desert environment.

Limitations (Reasons why your char can’t singlehandedly conquer a kingdom):
  • Limited Only to Sand and Glass Magic - Although Sieglind is capable of using other earthly materials, she is best suited to sand or glass. She cannot use other magic over other materials.
  • Desert Limitations - Because of her desert adaptations and her background, she is not suited to watery or icy environments. She is also unable to use snow as much as she could use sand. She cannot create deserts and can only adapt or manipulate deserts that already exist.

  • Tattoo Kit
  • Small Notebook containing her notes and her grandmothers notes and last words
  • Prayer Mat
  • Short Sword
  • Animal Feed
