The Pub
COMING >IC< SOON
OP: Anowa

In 2014, a terrorist organisation known only as 'The White Masks' starts gaining prominence on the international stage with a number of unified attacks on nearly 18 first and second world capitals. With an unclear motive, and the capability of attacking anywhere in the world at nearly any time, without regard to their victim's age, race, religion or nationality. They became the subject of a number of Counter Terrorist strikes and investigations, turning up with minimal leads despite casualties and arrests. The world started massing their knowledge together, despite previous grudges.

In early 2015, Team Rainbow was reactivated under UN Supervision, after almost 5 years dormant. In the same period Cambridge University came under a biological attack by the White Masks. While Team Rainbow responds within the hour, and removes any and all physical threats from the University's library and nearby dormitory, casualties still reach into the hundreds due to the biological agent used in the attack. Similar events would continue for the next three years.

It is now October of 2018. Three years into Rainbow's mission, and while they remain at work, they have grown to encompass over 40 operators from over 13 nations. All of them dedicated to stomping out the White Mask Threat.

You've been selected.

0. The rulings of OP and Co-OPs are final.
1. Basic RPing etiquette applies here, no metagaming, no godmodding, generally nothing that isn't acceptable on site.
2. Don't be a knobhead. RP your characters however you want, just keep such behavious in the IC.
3. Treat your posts like a CV, proper grammar and spelling are expected, and don't plaster it with italics and technicolor words, it's an eyesore and a possible health hazard.
4. OP reserves the right to kill your characters. You reserve the right not to complain about it.
5. Poor English skills are grounds for app denial/general removal. I should not have to TG you to find out what you meant in your IC posts.
6. Have fun!
  • CTU Law Enforcement and Direct Action Capable Military only please. Don't app as an Iranian Conscript.
    • This does not mean you can app as a character with the most notable thing they bring to the table being an airstrike. Dropping a 1,000 lbs bomb on the house you're supposed to be clearing isn't exactly a good thing.
  • Please try to make equipment realistic, to the degree that they are have been used by the Operator's nation within the last 40 years.
  • Make your gadget unique, or at least notable.
  • Delete all in parenthesis

As with any warning label the below are written not because I expect people are idiots, but because I've actually seen people do exactly as detailed below in RPs like this below, and I now have to put up warning labels to avoid repeats. They know who they are. So here we go:

  • Your characters are Special Forces. They should act as such. Punching a subordinate will get you canned, punching a superior doubly so. Calling a teammate from the middle east a rag-head will get your character punched, and probably then canned. Mouthing off against a superior when they give you an order will result in something worse. In short, don't be Private Joker.
  • Use common sense. If you're standing in a cloud of VX Gas, in a rather flimsy MOPP suit, don't write that your character got shot. Your character will die, and then you'll have to make a new one. Despite what you may think, I don't actually want to kill people.
  • Don't carry more than your body weight. Generally speaking a US Light Infantryman will carry roughly 180 pounds in his pack. That includes all of his equipment, from NVG, to ammo, to a bedroll, to MREs and Water. As an SF unit, at most you'll be carrying some extra ammo or a special gadget. So a few hundred rounds of ammo for everyone, two primaries, a ballistic shield, a few pounds of C4, grenades, a secondary, an AT launcher, and a full BDU with armor is asking to have sniper top your slow ass.
  • Gear up appropriately. Don't bring a drum of 12 gauge buckshot to a tubular hostage situation, it'll result in a very high amount of casualties, and you'l be booted from the force faster than you can say "Undisclosed chemicals in the ventilation". That being said, also don't go without your helmet. You madman.
  • Remain aware of the layout and objective location, and for the love of God, listen to what's happening in the OOC. If several people are telling you not to throw frag grenades into the next room containing the sole HVT of the operation, and you throw a frag grenade into the room, don't get angry when you severely injure the hostage. And don't say it wasn't your fault when your character gets the boot.
  • If you bum rush OPFOR alone, don't expect to make it much further. Especially if you straight up write yourself getting shot by a high caliber rifle near your heart.
  • No one fights alone. If you end up in a situation where your clearing a building, don't try to clear a room alone, and furthermore don't announce that you're entering the room before swinging the door open. You'll eat both lead, and a splintering doorway.
  • The words of your allies are as sacred as the manuals you read. Just because they have a lower rank, or happen to be younger, doesn't mean that their advice is useless. If someone says that sending your ammo bearer and sharpshooter to perform close-in-recon is a bad idea, it'd be a good idea to hear them out and possibly revise your plan. A bad idea is to replace the ammo bearer with the man who would dare question your orders... Despite them being the platoon's only AT Specialist. That's just shitty leadership, especially when both become wounded as a result.

Biography
Sutton wasn't the worst place in South London to grow up, far from it. Marcus was born into a family of mainly blue-collar workers, his father being a plumber by trade and his mother an assistant head chef at a local school, he wasn't the richest nor the poorest, sure there was a struggle for money but a hot dinner waiting every night was better than most. Even as a toddler, Marcus was boisterous and heavy handed, often breaking things around the house or rather than playing with toys, he'd rather hurl them around the garden or at his other siblings, brother and sister who were not that far older than himself which landed him in trouble more often than not. Aggressiveness was a trait that carried over into his early education and school years, noted by teachers to prefer pushing and pulling the other children around than learning and it was advised to his parents they take him to a behavioral psychiatrist, to which they obliged.

Over the years Marcus would attend classes outside of his formal education, mainly therapy sessions to help subdue his violent outbursts. Marcus attended several primary schools because of this, whether his attendance fell too low or that other parents would object to their sons and daughters being around him, it was rough and his parents didn't know what to do, there was nothing in his upbringing that warranted his behavioral symptoms. Luckily in Secondary school, there were boys bigger and mightier then he, being subject to a taste of the real world was enough to knock him down a peg or two, didn't stop him from scrapping in the yard after school, or in the local park, or in the street. Marcus was no stranger to the back of a police car and would frequently find himself being delivered back home for a scolding, before doing it again several days later.

At the suggestion of one his teachers, Marcus engaged in after school sports to help keep him out of trouble, mainly Rugby and Football to which he had a natural knack at, being bulky and athletic he was especially good at the former where he earned the nickname 'Bulldog'. As a part time apprenticeship, Marcus also became fond of cars and bikes, once taking apart the engine of his fathers landrover much to his chagrin, it seemed to be his natural calling and worked for a couple of years under the wing of a local mechanic shop. Once out of college, unsure of where to take himself, Marcus signed up for the Marines as a vehicle technician, but the recruiter noticing his athletic ability suggested he try for a more prestigious position in the Royal Marine Commandos, naturally up for a challenge, he accepted.

Basic was grueling, much more difficult than he had forseen but managed to overcome the challenge, his eventual assignment to the 40th Commando was just in time for the opening of the Iraq War, the 40th Commandos were tasked with capturing Iraqi oil facilities and saw combat throughout the Al-Faw peninsula and into Basra. Noted by his superiors for his actions and performance in combat situations earned him a promotion, but he didn't stop there. After his deployment, he furthered his pursuits attended university where he studied Biomedical Sciences, hoping to rejoin up with his comrades in the Marines as an officer, instead something else caught his eye. The SAS. It was noted that it was no walk in the park, even the recruiters said that he would most likely fail due to the statistics, a rigorous training coupled with a high dropout rate set the bar high.

Marcus would pass the physical and mental aptitude tests, also holding out for a higher than average time on the resistance to interrogation portion of the training. After training all over the world from the jungles of Belize, to the mountain peaks of Norway and the scorching deserts of the Sahara, Marcus finally passed selection and was accepted into the prestigious Special Air Service, being assigned to B Squadron at Hereford. From there Marcus would go all over the world, training with local forces and honing his own skills as a mechanic and operator. In 2006 he would return to Iraq with the regiment to carry out operations there, including Operation Larchwood and the capture of an infamous bomb maker during a midnight raid in the heart of Tikrit.

More recently he was involved in the SAS's Special Projects Team and Counter Terror Wing and also deployed to Afghanistan and back to Iraq to conduct reconnaissance and direction action against the Islamic State. Due to his incredible performance both on and off the field, he was subsequently handpicked for team Rainbow, a highly secretive force of special forces soldiers tasked to carry out missions across the globe in the name of freedom.

The Jackrock is a simple chamfered rectangular object around seven inches in height and half that in radius with a stable tapered bottom with additional fold out stakes for deployment in rough terrain. The Jackrock can also be deployed with a self expanding adhesive paste to secure it to theoretically any surface, maximizing opportunities for concealment and ambush.

Once armed, the Jackrock makes use of micro infra-red sensors to detect thermal changes in the nearby environment, programmed to react to human body temperature, the electronically activated fuze lasts two seconds before exploding, with the guaranteed kill radius being fifteen meters and is lethal for ten more. The mine also contains an inactivity redundancy measure whereafter twenty-four hours with no external stimuli, the mine will defuse itself, effectively disarming the mine. The compact and ease of use nature means minimal training is needed and can be deployed in less than ten seconds. An operator can carry up to three of these munitions.

Biography
Born in May of 1988 to Louise Robinson and Jesse Kelly in Canberra Australia. His childhood was full of adventure and fun as he enjoyed exploring the city and the outback with his brothers. From a young age he had been described as determined and hard working, doing his utter best at everything he did. Many of his values such as modesty, loyalty, and integrity come from his father, who made it a point to ingrain such values into his sons.

School was a fun time for him as he made plenty of lasting friendships, school could have gone better. He never planned on joining the army but one day something changed. Soldiers, former students of Canberra High School came to give the students a talk about the military on Remembrance Day. He wasn't sure what it was about the presentation but it made a lasting impression on him, spurring his will to enlist. No matter what he couldn't shake the urge to join, so he did. After high school he attended Royal Military College - Duntroon. He studied what was relevant for his military career and jumped into the fray.

Finishing schooling a bit early, he caught the tail end of Operation Kruger and the rest of the Iraq operation, followed by several tours in Afghanistan. At this point he'd been in the force for five years as part of the Army's contribution to OKRA, SLIPPER, and HIGH ROAD. With several good years under his belt and a steely determination he applied for the most grueling soul crushing training he'd ever endure. During his entire service he hadn't sustained any major injuries, blisters, bruises, scrapes, nothing serious, but SASR's great divider was able to hospitalize him and many others during their training in near-inhospitable or traversable territory.

However with a steel will, open mind, and a sense of humour he met the famed Regiment's requirements. Serving three years with the SASR he participated in numerous counter-terrorism operations in and broad the nation. Following the attacks, Canberra was among the affected cities. Fueled with a fiery passion to avenge the fallen and the attack on his home his loyalty to Rainbow would be unquestioned in their hunt against the Masks.

Psychologically fit for duty. Senior Sergeant Anastasia Zakharova is a patriotic woman who’s family and country comes first, which grows from the fact she was raised in a household with military ties leading all the way back to the first world war. Described as having a proactive personality, being an energetic soldier who possesses a good nose of trouble, maintaining a good instinct based off of experiences in Ukraine and Syria. Making her analytical and highly conscious of her surroundings. Providing her with appropriate skills as a reconnaissance operator in the field. Shes realistic in her views and in how she approaches things. Often searching for the clear and the most direct solution, so long as that reduces loss to noncombatant life. Having somewhat of a distinct moral compass, but when a situation demands it, she will step beyond those bounds, albet reluctantly.

Socially, she could be characterized as an extrovert who appreciates the company she holds. She has significant amount of loyalty and respect to the numerous operators and civilian personnel within rainbow who she engages with on a regular basis. Considering most of them her friend, and the team mates she works with more intimately her family. With her often participating in conversations which can range from personal banter to idle chit chat. She is further more than willing sit and listen to somebody vent, providing advice, and cracking the odd joke about it. That being said however, She has a habit of being sarcastic, with Anastasia having an inclination to be somewhat forthright. Lacking much in the way of word filters. Having insufficient time for stupidity or arrogance, which she will usually challenge with short sarcastic retorts. Something that has irked certain members of staff.

Anastasia performed well within state education bar discipline problems, she did however have a notable knack for electronics, notably radio technology, something which she found had a hobby within. She engaged in several youth aimed state and regional electronic design competitions at age fourteen, often coming 3rd or 4th within her category, but rarely ever won. Expressed an interest in serving within the military and intended to join up following the completion of her education, rather than pursue further education, instead attending the Saint Petersburg rocket artillery cadet corps at sixteen. Excelling within cadet school.

Following graduation, she began service within in the Russian Ground Forces, and served under the 84th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion, just before the outbreak of 2008 Russian war following the attempted offensive in the Baltics and the failure that resulted in an ultra-nationalist coup following the execution of president Arbatov and marshal law being declared. Troop remained loyal to the Russian government and took part in the Toropec attack. Despite women not being allowed to serve within combat positions, Zakharova got herself within a position that demanded it. With her unit being tasked with recon and the disrupting the ultranationalists communication lines, getting into the odd skirmish with the rebels. The heavier fighting coming much later in the battle for Moscow, in which Zakharova was shot twice during the defence of their compound against repeated attacks.

Zakharova entered a two-month long recovery process following the end of the conflict and returned to her unit afterwards. Continuing to serve until late 2012, turning out to be an extemporary solider with an excellent record and solid experience within her relative field, being a fast climber within the ranks. She was given the opportunity to enter training within KSSO looking to produce a unit with a diverse set of skills. Zakharova agreed, undertaking the strenuous training process, struggling under the physical assessment which was modelled to that of 1st SFOD-D, but excelled within the skills training aspect, performing well within reconnaissance and counterintelligence. With much determination, she managed to pass through selection, being one of the few women within the unit, and within active combat SF units in Russia.

Zakharova saw several deployments throughout her career within KCCO, first being deployed during he Ukrainian crisis in Crimea, during the clandestine operation to annex Crimea back into Russian territory. Zakharova unit being deployed into the country, seizing plain clothes to seize the parliament building, which went without zero loss of life. This lead onto the Donbass conflict, being deployed back into Ukraine in august as an advisor for pro-Russian elements engaged with the ukrainians. Something which would escalate into further direct conflicts by the end of the year. Including her unit being ordered to assist DPR forces in the renewed offensive in a clandestine fashion. With Zakharova’s unit directing artillery strikes and engaging in skirmishes during the offensive on Mariupol, second battle of Donetsk airport and at the battle of Debaltseve. Along with the support they provided to the DPR, her unit carried out more direct missions, such as a rescue operation to snatch back three SVR RF agents captured by members of right sector.

During the later stages of her service, her unit was deployed with the фантом Electronic warfare support system in Syria, a surveillance tool which Zakharova and other members of her team developed to meet the needs and give them an edge during recon operations deep behind enemy lines. A portable device which could allow them to monitor enemy communications whilst still being portable enough to be carried by one soldier. They utilized the device to great effect during her time in the country. With her unit gathering intelligence via both radio and mobile, learning of planned attacks, personnel and locations of operational headquarters for the Islamic extremist and anti-government forces. Which allowed them to guide in air strikes and strike against high value assets with ease. aiding them in their direct action strikes deep behind enemy lines and even greater during the search and rescue operation for the downed pilots and much later the retrieval of the black box.

With the emergence of the white masks and the rebirth of team rainbow, they picked Anastasia Zakharova to serve under team B, one of five of the Russian representatives for the new squad, alongside the additional four in service within the international unit.

  • L-25A1X Rapid Deployment Anti-Pursuit Mine 'Jackrock' Designed around the similar American developed M86 Pursuit Deterrent Munition, the L-25A1X, or better known by it's informal designation, The Jackrock, is an anti-personnel mine designed for rapid deployment in environments where traditional mine deployment methods may be hampered or impaired by the situation.

Note.

I've met Specialist Ashford a few times, his drive, personality, and moral compass aren't what worries me. What worries me is what he's bringing to the table, from what I remember the Jackrock has no reliable IFF beyond that of it's thermal killswitch. Much unlike the kind that the younger Bosak, Basuda, and Long had the foresight of engineering into their respective traps, and due to it's size I don't see a likely way to incorporate one. If some of our more 'quick-to-action' or rotation happy operatives like Cohen or Hwa takes a wrong turn or wanders into a hallway before they can be alerted, at best they may be coming home in pieces, at worst, they'll be dead.

On another note. What is it with Rainbow and recruiting notably aggressive Londoners? First Porter and Evans, now Ashford.

  • Experimental Dispersal Device x4
A small metal soft ball sized device packed with dozens of needles. When activated, the device sheds its metal shell exposing the needles full of an undisclosed biological agent that neutralizes targets that have been impacted by the XDD's needles. Enough doses may cause cardiac arrest.
Additional Munitions:
  • M67 Frag Grenade x2
  • M18 Smoke Grenade x3

Note.

"Undisclosed biological agent" concerns me. Why does it need to be undisclosed? Further more, a biological agent isn't just something you want floating around a combat zone in which potentially wounded would be moving through. At the very least let us know what it is so we can take the necessary precautions.

Psychological Evaluation:

Biography

Born In St-Petersburg, Russia in January 2nd, 1990. Born into a household with a strong military history leading back to the first world war, she grew up within a large family, having several siblings, Anastasia being the second youngest. She was raised primarily by her mother and grandfather, following the death of her father. A military officer in 9th Motor Rifle Division who perished during the Battle of Grozny during the first Chechen war. She had a comfortable family life during her youth. Her family didn’t have much money but where never uncomfortable.

Not gonna lie, this could use quite a bit of work, but it has a decent foundation.

To start, there's the chronological issues: The Battle of Kabul was in late 2001, meaning your character was 3-4 during it, and German troops didn't participate. The Battle of Herat was during the same period, and again, didn't see Geramn troops in it. His bio could also use a much greater depth of detail.

Then there's the issue of not coming from a Counter-Terror unit, or even a German unit, as the last time Germany had a 4th Infantry Regiment was in 1940. The German military does have a Counter-Terror unit in the form of the Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK), which I would suggest.

Now the equipment he's using. The AW50 is used by the German Military, but it's not something you'd want to clear a building with. The Webley .557 doesn't exist, so I'm assuming it's a typo of the Webley .577, which is a nearly 140 year old weapon and is beyond obsolete. I strongly suggest something else, seeing as the .577 Boxer round isn't actually made anymore, and it's ineffective against body armor. Personal gadgets are usually something a bit more unique than a Bowie knife, say something like custom crafted ammo or a hand held mine detector for examples. A more definitve list of what his uniform contains would also be appreciated.

There's also the List formatting issue.

Biography
Freidrich Johannes Huber is a 20-year-old German KSK Sniper. In school, he was a superb student, breezing through the Gymnasium course. He instantly signed up and went into active service in Afghanistan, he performed well, earning the UN medal. He has been wounded on several occasions, but kept insisting on returning to action as soon as possible. Psychologically, He has endured the stress of service very well, never succumbing to combat fatigue or stress. He is a calm killer and has scared some people by his intensity and bloodlessness. Needless to say, he is terrible with kids. His sangfroid has easily landed him as a sniper, he is calm, cold, and rational, in one notable operation, he shot and killed 5 ISIS terrorists before he walked in with his MP7 and combat knife. He walked out 5 minutes later, a bullet having gone through his arm and having a generous smear of blood on his torso, when asked, he said it the blood wasn't his in a dispassionate voice. He views sleep, eating, and going to the medic's tent as necessary evils . He is smart, but is quite possibly a sociopath. He started studying business studies at college but never finished the course. Physically, Freidrich is in good shape. He is average-height with fair skin, black hair and blue eyes. He grew up in a working class neighborhood. His parents separated when he was small, but remained friends and provided a happy, stable home. He is currently single.

Psychological Evaluation: Crom is a highly analytical and reserved individual with little desire to mince words. Having experienced the horrors of war and combat first-hand, he has developed a certain mental fortitude and calm on the battlefield that has aided him greatly in his role as a field medic. Veteran operators from within the unit have made note of his professional attitude, though have also commented that he comes off as aloof, emotionally distant and "hard to read." This can be partly discerned from the fact he is Team RAINBOW's newest addition and that he likely has personal desire to prove himself as a capable member of the unit, though previous discussions with Kötz has revealed that Crom has feelings described as "deeply conflicting" about his transfer to the unit as he is no longer serving his homeland, but rather a transnational organization.

Biography
Born to a forensic scientist and a hospital orderly, Gijsbert Crom grew up in hospitals and in constant amazement of the wonders of human biology and medicine. So much so, that he passed through school with the highest honours and was offered scholarships to some of the best medical schools in the Netherlands. After finishing his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Amsterdam, Crom married and started a family whilst working part-time as a physician's assistant. Eventually he continued his education towards a Master's Degree after enlisting in the military out of patriotic duty. Due to his "health-nut attitude" and high-scoring physical and mental abilities, Crom qualified for the Netherlands Special Unit training program, where he was placed into the Korps Commandotroepen and deployed in Afghanistan immediately after in 2009. There, he garnered high command's attention due to risking his life to save two of his squadmates during a raid on an Al-Qaeda compound; one of whom had lost a foot from an Rocket Propelled Grenade explosion and the other having received a near-lethal neck wound in combat.

Following his tour, Crom returned home and promptly had two children with his wife before reenlisting again in the military. He was deployed in both Mali and Kurdistan, the former where he further distinguished himself by providing medical assistance on local government soldiers assisting his team in combat, and in Kurdistan where he taught fundamental surgery and combat techniques to friendly militants fighting ISIL. Due to his numerous accolades that he had accumulated by this point, Dutch high command nominated Crom for a position in RAINBOW to which he accepted. He is the first Dutch member of Team RAINBOW, and is proud to serve as his nation's ambassador and combatant to the unit. He is fluent in English, German, Kurdish and French, along with his native Dutch language.

Note.

From a professional standpoint, the XM-B1 is somewhat of a miracle drug, providing an anesthetic alongside a fast acting coagulant in the field. No doubt lifesaving, but the method of action is -to me at least- concerning in terms of long term health of our operatives. Nitrogen is approximately 78% of the Earth's atmosphere, meaning there is no shortage of it for which the chemical compound can react with, however, Nitrogen in the human body is also available in roughly 3% of our total mass. Granted, most of this mass is in the form of previously bonded chemicals like ammonia or nitrates. Due to it's method working via injection, the chances of an unwanted clot happening within the close circulatory system is low, but still something that is a risk. Should the XM-B1 be used, I strongly suggest it be used when there is no other option, and even then used sparingly.

I'll try and get an app in soon. Don't have much time juggling Region and Forum RP.

Hmm...Now do I go with a Counter-sniper/fire assisting drone, or a Grenade launcher upgrade?

Hmmm... might consider this. I have been working on a Spetznav type character for a while.

The drone sounds interesting, but I don't think I quite understand it, is it like the Black Hornet?

I'll tag this for old time's sake. I'll see what I can do about getting an app up.

No, it's a Quad-Copter drone that is carried by a single soldier. Basically is uses a scaled down version of the fire location radars seen on some MBTs and counter-artillery radars. It uses a similar system to easily to locate and even track incoming rounds [Small Arms, RPGs, Mortars, etc.] and relay the information to the controller through a small smartphone like device that can either give a bearing and or cords. on the firing location and trajectory, allowing more effective counter fire or counter sniping.

So essentially it can cover a decent area [TBD from research] and act as a support weapon for someone like my character operating on the outskirts or from a firing position in the AO to lay down more effective sniper/counter sniper fire, or in the event I don't have LoS, relay information to fellow operators [Like a Grenadier] to take out the enemy position
