Name: Chiss (Chiss Ascendancy)
Appearance:
Government type: Militaristic Republican Oligarchy
Technology of Note: Because of their previous state as a rather isolationist culture, mixed with their superiority in terms of intelligence and mindset, the Chiss are technologically quite ahead compared to other races, having many advanced and refined techs. Including faster engines, sleeker and deadlier blasters, etc.
Information: (Culture Summary: imagine if a Mandalorian, a Roman, Thrawn and a bit of Vulkan had a baby together, that's basically Chiss Culture)
-The Chiss are a progressive yet militaristic society, though they hide that part of their culture a bit better than the humans. The Chiss originated on the edges of known space, where some of the harshest conditions across the galaxy can be found. With raiders and pirates both outside and inside the boundaries of the known galaxy, to extreme weather conditions and terrains on the border planets they inhabited, the Chiss fought through and overcame many challenges throughout their long history. There they formed the Chiss Ascendancy: an oligarchic, militaristic and progressive intergalactic regime that holds the values of the people and the military close to heart. They have, as previously mentioned, a very progressive and militaristic culture, progressive to the point of having no gender or racial inequality, always willing to adapt and change, and militaristic to the point where every member of the species has not only a deep military tradition in their hearts, but has also had some sort of military training in the past, as required by the Ascendancy. And in Chiss Culture it is more the social norm to rely on logic rather than emotion (though emotion still is a major factor), allowing for decisions to be made without the interference of emotion and reliance on pure logic.

This allowed them to progress in technology faster than some other races as their ability to thrive in harsh conditions paired with their higher intellect and their willingness to learn unimpeded by something like religion because of their logic. By the time some races had just discovered light speed the Ascendancy was already travelling between worlds as a norm. When the Ascendancy was discovered by the Hegemony, the Chiss were, at first, also ridiculed like humanity because of their ways of thinking as well as extreme militarism. However, this was soon overshadowed by the Chiss's contribution to technology and society, as new inventions helped the Hegemony to become more advanced thanks to the Chiss, and the Chiss made reliable managers and security having a much lower chance at being corrupted compared to other species. However, not all was sunshine and rainbows, as many species started to try and not only impede Chiss influence, but also infiltrate it, some seeing the Chiss's lack of religion and scientific devotion as "heresy," others wanting to take over the Ascendancy from the inside to try and claim such technology. With this attempted "corruption" of the Ascendancy, the Chiss Tetrarchy Council (the four ruling joint rulers of the Ascendancy) created the Ascendancy Bureau of Security Intelligence (ABSI), an organisation formed to keep order and safety in the internal affairs of the Ascendancy. Perhaps most famous, yet secret, was one of the Bureau's security wings, Chimera, made up of elite agents and, if ever actually fully uncovered, could potentially be described as sharing the same role as the Einsatzgruppen or the Gestapo (though natural Chiss logic embedded in their heads allowed that the organisation not be impeded by racial bias). Soon, potential anarchists and revolutionaries disappeared overnight, many of them foreign peoples.

Upon the discovery of humanity, the Ascendancy and Chiss were some of the only ones not to ridicule them, seeing them as an interesting species that the Chiss shared several common traits with, including their mainly previous tension between other races. Now the Ascendancy will do as they have always done: progress, advance and ensure security, with a little new addition: the study of other civilisations that may or may not be threats.

The Chiss species themselves, though similar in appearance with humanity besides their red eyes and blue skin, are radically different from the human counterparts biologically. The Chiss had evolved from the harsh conditions of their homeworlds in many ways including: having naturally stronger muscle fibres, being able to run much faster, having a much higher natural stamina and larger energy reserves, as well as requiring less food to keep their bodies nourished, having a natural resistance to extreme weathers on both spectrums and more. This comes with a plethora if physical inside changes as well, such as larger lungs and hearts. In terms of mental power, they also are physically superior in that, having larger brains with naturally higher processing power. There's also the fact that in Chiss Culture it is more the social norm to rely on logic rather than emotion (though emotion still is a major factor).

ACCEPTED. Though I would caution you to make sure that the Ascendancy isn't too powerful, as much of the conflict in this RP is based around Shvii dominance of the know galaxy.

It’s like in Star Wars Legends, they’re there, they’re a formidable and advanced power, but they generally keep to themselves and aren’t as big as a power like the Galactic Empire

Character App
Name: Alistair Seravee
Age: 28
Appearance:
Image
(Keep in mind, in RP nobody really sees his face)

Personality:
Alistair is a man of few words, someone who prefers shooting someone over speaking to them. And that's obvious in his mannerisms, his voice contorted into a mechanical monotone and his face covered by the protective metal helmet he uses. He's a man straight from the wilds of combat, a ruthless machine who lives for the hunt.
Those who have spoken to him know he's driven by something other than money, although that does in fact play a large role in his decision making.
His life is all about fighting, and he worries about when it will end, all he knows is war and once it's done he'll have nothing. So he keeps the fight going, to give himself a reason to live.
Although he is an experienced combatant, he falls flat with anything else past literacy and math, he has no social experience, no tertiary education and a world wanting him gone.
Species/Race: Human
Occupation/Position to be filled: Mercenary/Protection, due to his extensive past, he is skilled with most forms of combat, mostly EVA and Guerrilla Warfare. He also has half-trained mechanical skills, and can repair guns and equipment, but little more.
Skills/Abilities:
    - Guerrilla Warfare
    - Disruption
    - EVA Combat
    - Battlefield sense
    - Hand-to-hand combat
Equipment:
History:
Alistair's history begins when he was very young. His father was a militia soldier, and during his upbringing taught him how to fight and defend himself in any way he could, as he was suspicious of their Shvii overlords and their goals for humanity. The training involved basic survival skills, shooting, climbing and all other kinds of scenarios. While also living a happy life with his parents, making it on the low-income work they could take. Once Alistair turned 17, he too joined up with the Militia, and they worked little jobs here-and-there, until they were ambushed by pirates while on a job. And Alistair only managed to escape by running away, while the rest of the Militia was slaughtered and looted. He swore revenge, leaving home with the cash he could grab and his Militia Rifle. Setting out for a far-off spaceport to make a name for himself.

He worked simple guard, escort and low-priority protect jobs until he turned 22, where he found himself confronted by 'Ezekiel Kirena', Leader of the 'War Dogs'. Ezekiel had heard about his story and wanted to help him find the men who killed his father. They trained him relentlessly in between jobs, teaching him to become the perfect killer, and getting him the equipment to do so. He thought little of it, the War Boys brutal ways, their willingness to take any job, no matter how suicidal or morally wrong. Until they eventually found the band of pirates who had assaulted the Militia forces those years ago. Alistair had his revenge, the War Boys tearing the band to shreds in a fight that took little over 30 minutes.

He worked with the War boys until he turned 25, and he was slowly disagreeing with their methods, until they took the Barbosa Job, which unknowing to him. Involved the slaughter of the entire crew of an innocent spice trader 'The Holy Barbosa'. The most high-profile job he'd ever done, landing the name of the War Boys in eternal infamy. He was done, and he hated everything about the War Boys. So he waited for their next job. This time, the War Boys were tasked with clearing out an inner-rim Spaceport, and obtaining a crate of very expensive weapons. He took his chance in the airlock of the spaceport, while they were waiting for pressurisation. he gunned down everyone in the airlock, and exited back into the War Boys ship, where the spree continued. Until he was the only one to walk out of that airlock and into the Spaceport, where not a single person knew what he'd saved them from.

He continued odd jobs, his skills quickly earning himself a reputation as a lone mercenary. He's now 28, and searching for more work. Anything to get him through the next six months, whether it's a quick job, or one that keeps him fed. He doesn't really mind.

Hell, why not? Let's do my first RP and just make a species.

Species App
Name: Eesid (plural: Eesids, adjective: Eesid) (Empire: Eesid Theocracy)
Appearance: They are serpentomorphs, also known as snake-people, with smooth skin and slit eyes with only an inner eyelid, like most snakes. They have arms, but no legs, with two claws each for each digit. While phenotypes differ, the most common skin color is a vibrant red-yellow-orange color, with the bottom half of the body having a slim yellow stripe in the center while dissipating out to orange with red covering the rest of their body. Their tongues can be as long as a human forearm. Their two fangs extend out of their mouth, usually being around four or five inches long each. Males are usually 8 feet tall (long?) while females are around 7 feet tall.
Government type: Theocratic Monarchy
Technology of Note: Not really, no.
Information: They take their religion very seriously. Converting is extremely rare and convicted converters can be killed. Despite this, they are not a police state. They are usually pacifist, seeking diplomacy rather than war. Their homeland is a swamp-like planet with mostly reptilian wildlife.

Really? Barely over 24 hours and you're already putting the IC up? Anyway I'm just reusing my app from last time for this.

Species App
Name: Giokeni
Appearance: At the basic physical level, Giokeni resemble Tau from the Warhammer 40,000 series - Y-shaped nose/ear in the middle of their face, reddish-pink eyes and high cheekbones on an angular (but decidedly humanoid), flattish face. with two-hoofed legs resembling that of a pig's in form and mechanics. Besides this, their bodies are otherwise much closer to humans with a similar level of sexual dimorphism (and in a similar manner), their hair is straight, black, and tends to be on the oilier side, and skin tone ranges from a deep cobalt or green to an almost off-white. Their hearing is sensitive and more capable of sensing direction than humans (though they appear to have one orifice, the Y on their face has an earhole at each end and the nasal cavity in the middle, with two more earholes on the sides of their heads in more human-like ears), and they are a little faster, can jump a lot higher, and are generally a bit more flexible. They lay eggs instead of giving live birth, with the egg about the size of a rugby ball.
Government type: Giokeni governace consists of a number of loosely-aligned clans who elect one clan chieftain to the position of High King once every five Giokenn years (roughly six standard years). Hundreds of centuries ago, Giokeni society was divided in castes based on skin tone, but this has long since been deemed ridiculous by the Giokeni and their government.
Technology of Note: Giokeni produce some of the best ships in the galaxy, from the smallest starfighter to the great dreadnoughts and megacarriers that form the backbone of the Shvii's war fleet. Great beasts of metal and steel that look almost dieselpunk in appearance, they are surprisingly sturdy and nimble. No two are alike, however - Giokeni are natural engineers and prone to tinkering with anything they can get their hands on, so their ships can vary widely in appearance and capabilities with ship 'classes' as they are based more on size and general similarities. They also have a good grasp of prosthetics, though like their ships they tend to look a little primitive and thus aren't too popular. Far more popular is the booze the Giokeni produce on their homeworld, comparable to a sweetened whiskey with only a mild bite in taste but a hell of a kick in strength. It has to be to combat the Giokeni's powerful liver and kidneys. Also popular is the wood logged on Giokeni and various other planets with a similarly cool overall climate, which is still used by the Giokenn militia in weapons and to a limited extent in that of other races, besides as furniture.
Information: Boorish and loud, the Giokeni were in the later years of their industrial revolution when they were uplifted by the Shvii some four and a half thousand years ago. An unusual situation, but the Giokeni were unusual themselves as they had developed rocketry almost as soon as they had developed gunpowder (helped along by Glokenn's comparatively low gravity and high quality iron and aluminum deposits), and had built colonies on all three of Giokenn's moons and their nearest planet, the lush, Carboniferesque Throxeed by that point. The Giokeni have adapted well to the interplanetary scene, expanding their territory to several of the surrounding uninhabited (by sapient life) worlds, and spreading throughout the galaxy as engineers, troops, mercenaries - no matter the age, the clans of Giokenn were more than willing to fight for those that offered, and against those that offended. Honor was (and is) very important to the Giokeni after all, and integrity in whatever trade one takes up and pride in one's work - even in the face of mockery, which isn't uncommon in certain parts and social levels of the Hegemony. Even criminal activities oddly enough - while many pirates and lowlifes talk about a 'code of honor' among thieves, Giokeni truly live it, and at least try to enforce it among their ranks. Their accent is mocked on occasion too - lots of glottal stops, dropped Hs, I-s to oi-s and aye-s, and other such things. The species is omnivorous, but tends to lean towards meat and starches. They also have a notable music culture which, besides a large repertoire of drinking, sport, and folk music, features prominently the Giokenn Pipeset, which is a bagpipe-type instrument with one tenor, one baritone, one bass, and one harmonizing drone, a bellows, and a lever-based keyboard - not unlike the human Uilleann pipes, but with a longer chanter and fewer keys, granting it a wider melodic range, and the ability to comfortably play it upright.

Character App
Name: Maira d'Ierunan of Clan u'Oriunn
Age: 147
Appearance:
Image
At 1.6 m, Maira is short even by Giokeni standards. Thin, with a small chest but wide hips not uncommon to those of the Most Noble and Ancient Clan of u'Oriunn. Her hair is messy, as is typical of Giokeni, and her skin has tanned to a bright Crayola shade of cerulean. Prefers leather clothing, most notably her human-made sheepskin jacket. Is actually capable of being clean.

Personality: Maira is the type who was built from the ground up to do something with machinery. Innately curious about the inner workings of mechanical parts, she is almost never without a tool of some sort (most notably the spanner she keeps on her person at all times), she has both the education and the experience with virtually every major class of ship in the Hegemony and the Giokeni Confederation to deal with virtually anything any spaceship can throw at her, including her own craft.
Likes: Meat, whiskey, flying, the wind in her hair, oil between her fingers, a good puzzle, family, her clan, loud music
Dislikes: Deliberately impossible challenges, Clan d'Rengo, silence, overly jingoistic war cinema.
Species/Race: Giokeni
Occupation/Position to be filled: Chief engineer, pilot
Skills/Abilities: By Giokeni standards, Maira is a pretty good mechanic, by human standards she's a genuine genius in the engineering department, with the unusual gift (among Giokeni) of actually being able to articulate what's supposed to be done to non-Giokeni subordinates (as many Giokeni in the engineering field use colorful terminology comparable to Russian mat, where nearly everything can be described with a variant of a word that otherwise describes genitalia, and is nearly indecipherable unless you've been raised and educated with it). She is also a good pilot, if rather reckless in combat and prone to showing off. She excels in making bombs and improvised weapons, too - a skill many lowhive Giokeni have. Plays the pipes very well.
Equipment: Wi'loa Mk IV microwave pistol in a hip holster, two Twi'en Thunderer rail pistols on underarm holsters, steel spanner, Giokenn multitool, Lii-Enwask microwave rifle, Storwen Mk X fighter 'Orange Crush', wallet with ID and platinum-ranked cash card from the Bank of Giokenn, electrified Giokenn greatsword, Giokenn Pipeset, military uniform with ribbons, ceremonial targe of Clan d'Ierunan, ceremonial targe of Clan u'Oriunn
History: Maira was born on one of the lower levels of the Glatistant Arcology, a massive Gioken hive built on the otherwise icy world of Glatistant, ruled largely by Clan d'Rengo with Clan u'Oriunn (and their own vassal clan, the d'Ieurnan) being a soundly defeated vassal clan working as laborers on Glatistant. For much of her childhood, she willingly lived under the heel of the d'Regno clan. It would not last - dissent among Clan u'Oriunn had been high for years, but as she reached adolescence and gained a sense of the nature of politics, she was swept up in the fervor. She was twenty-nine, at the peak of adolescence, when the first bombings began, and she was right there helping the u'Oriunn rebels fight the good fight. For years she built bombs, machine guns, energy cannons, and swords for u'Oriunn, before graduating to flying Storfalks as the fight spread to outside the arcology. All the while studying under an apprenticeship by a member of the Most Noble and Loyal Great Clan of Mo'Radin, Craftsmiths of the High King, by the name of Domas Mo'Radin - an important skill, as pilots were expected to do much of the work on their own craft.

It ended, as many clan wars do, in a relative draw forced by Hegemony forces stepping in to prevent violence from getting 'out of hand' and them recruiting many of the best fighters to fight in their wars. Nothing personal, that was simply how things worked for the Giokenn, and they didn't mind the opportunity to fight something else for a change anyway. The Fourteenth d'Rengo/u'Oriunn war ended with little fanfare or galactic attention after a good eleven years. Maira was put in a mixed-species squadron attached to the Karlo, a battleship-carrier nominally of the Giokeni Confederation but truly of the Hegemony. There they went to Lagepo to deal with a violent, if vaguely justified, uprising against the regional governor appointed by the Confederation (and approved of by the Hegemony), as Lagepo was a colony of the Giokenn in all but names.

They attacked, as most Giokeni attackers do, with fire and fury, beating the Lagepo fleet to scrapmetal and smashing asteroid colonies into each other to kill two birds with one stone. When not flying or repairing her own bird, Maira was in the engines, or the firing lanes, or the catapult rooms, or the sensor systems, or even the galley a few times. She was therefore not present for most of the times when the fighting got ugly - when Lagepo's moon was firebombed, when the crystalline cities of the southern hemisphere were shattered by sonic weapons before evacuations of civilians could be completed, when the Sojourner rammed the Lagepoan flagship into the sea, resulting in the destruction of Lagepo's largest spaceport.

She was very much there for the siege of Lagepo's capital city when she was put on a ground squadron to take it out. Eleven years of fighting over one city culminated in the Burning of Lagepo, where the Giokeni fleet corralled the entire remainder of the Lagepo's space fleet above the city and reduced them to falling scrap. The Hegemony's troops marched in under a rain of burning ships, and she flew through a sky on fire as the city was plundered and burned for its transgressions. Her squadron's order was to interfere with any of the city's attempts to stop the fires caused by the bombers, which she willingly took part in.

A forty-year war ended in a night, ironically not due to the siege's end. The governor had been killed the night before, and the rebels were planning to agree to a conditional surrender before, but with their last stronghold destroyed, they had no choice but to accept the unconditional surrender forced upon them. The siege, like the war itself, got a lot of attention, and not all of it good. Words of war crimes were passed around, but none stuck to Maira, despite being at the very least present at a few.

It left a bad taste in Maira's mouth, and she retired from the military to work as a restorative mechanic - taking up old wrecks and repairing them to working order, after all if it worked for the ancients it'll work for those still with us, eh?

She was about ninety when she found her prize, her Orange Crush, a Giokenn fighter from long before the Lagepo War. Another ten years it took to bring it up to working order, and another ten to make it capable of any real modern usefulness, but in Maira's mind it was more than worth it. She changed her mechanic's overalls for a pilot's wings and set about the galaxy as a gun (and mechanic) for hire. It was in this career, on Betty-Aleph V, that she heard about the expedition. More out of curiosity than any grand desire for a great expedition (though that was also a factor), she signed herself up.
RP Sample: Boy.

EXTRA'S
Worst Thing Ever Done: May or may not have been involved in one of the controversial parts of Giokeni Confederation's controversial siege of Lagepo.
Best Thing Ever Done: Built her Storwen Mk X up almost from scrap
What Do They Care About: Her honor, her fighter, money, family
Greatest Fear: Being exiled from the Confederation
A Dark Secret They Have: Maira feels little real remorse about her involvement of the destruction of Lagepo's capital city, and that genuinely scares her, almost as much as exile. Might have PTSD, which may be part of why she hates quiet so much - there's nothing to drown out her darker thoughts.
Them Song, Of Course: you know it

Well, the biggest thing we really need right now is another scientist for the team. We've got pilot, engineers and mercenaries, but I think another scientist for the archaeologists would work well. Help round out the two sections of the expedition.
