Pokémon: Adventures in Anglion
The OOC Thread

[Music]
"Good day to you and welcome to the world of Pokémon! This world is inhabited by creatures known as Pokémon. They're spread across all four corners of the planet, their habitats ranging from the highest peaks to the deepest oceans and new Pokémon are being discovered every day! Some Pokémon are kept as pets, while others are used to battle. But where are my manners, I forgot to introduce myself! My name is Professor Hazel Filbert and it is my job to study Pokémon."

With that mandatory opening cut-scene out of the way... Welcome to Pokémon: Adventures in Anglion! This is a roleplay taking place within the custom region of Anglion, once a powerhouse of an empire with a role in the Pokémon War, now a peaceful land with friendly ties to the regions of Kalos and Unova. When it comes to Pokémon, Anglion is an incredibly diverse region, ranging from regional variants to species that can't be found anywhere else! Anglion is also home to many myths and legends, like Robin Hood; a man who stole from the rich and gave to the poor, with the help of his Decidueye.

The Rules

  • All of the NationStates rules apply.
  • Co-OPs' words are law.
  • But OP's words are more law than the Co-OPs' words.
  • This roleplay has a three line minimum for in-character posts.
  • There isn't a limit to how many characters you can have, just make sure you can handle them all.

Mechanics

Capturing Pokémon

The concept of capturing Pokémon is like the anime. Knocking a Pokémon out cold and then tossing a ball at it isn't the only way to capture it. You might encounter a Pokémon that is particularly friendly. You might also encounter a Pokémon which just needs a helping hand but does not want to be captured. Just to give a sense of randomness though, it'll be the OP or Co-OP who decides which Pokémon you encounter and whether or not your capture succeeds. The OP and Co-OP can also decide whether or not the Pokémon is Shiny, though the chances are incredibly low.

Legendary/Mythical Pokémon cannot be captured (because a kid having literally god on their team is BS).

Pokémon Battles

The battle system is more akin to the anime, so your trainer CAN shout "DODGE!" and your Pokémon can try to do just that. Attack clashes are also possible if the participating Pokémon and their moves are at a close enough level of strength. We don't employ the games' level system though. A Pokémon will always grow stronger after a battle. Battles with Gym Leaders can only be done with the OP or Co-OP, whether it's done post-by-post or in one big collaboration extravaganza.

Parties

Like the games, a trainer may have up to six Pokémon in their party at one time. If you captured a Pokémon and your party is full, you can either banish send the captured Pokémon or one of your party members to a box. Or you could just have your character send them to a relative. Y'know, so the Pokémon has human interaction and love instead of rotting in a computer for all eternity. Trust me, I know, I have half a box of Kanto Raichus which haven't seen the light of day for years.

Items

Most items can be bought from the Poké-Marts or other shops across Anglion. However, certain items like Mega Stones, Z-Crystals and the like are distributed solely by the OP or Co-OP. Fret not however, for if you have run out of potions, you can probably find Oran Berries in the wild. Just make sure they're actually Oran Berries and not poisonous berries.

Evolution

Item-based evolutions work exactly like they do in the games, you give the Pokémon the item it needs and BAM, evolved. Trade-based evolutions work the same too, you just trade it to another person and pray to Arceus that they give it back after the evolution is completed. Level-based evolutions are decided by OP and Co-OPs.

Starter Pokémon

Your starter Pokémon must be capable of evolving at least once. Fossils, Legendaries, Mythicals and Shinies cannot be starter Pokémon.

Movesets
(Almost forgot to add this lmao.)

Pokémon may have up to six, yes, SIX moves, seven if you count Z-Moves (as mentioned above though, Z-Crystals will be distributed only by the OP and Co-OPs.)

Sightings of Dark and Ghost type Pokémon are at an all-time high! Many trainers are using this as an opportunity to catch themselves some powerful Pokémon, while others are being especially weary. As expected, the Hex Maniacs are having the times of their lives! Is this influx of spooky Pokémon coincidental, or is something sinister afoot?

For a limited time only, you'll be able to find these Pokémon all over Anglion rather than just their normal locations:

Interesting...
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

Well, let's see if this lasts any longer than either iteration of Pokémon Amber. :p

Also, will Tekagon be Anglion's pseudo-legendary? And we're allowed psuedo-legendary starters (i.e. Dratini, Larvitar, etc)?

Datenshi

Image

Gender: Female
Age: 22

Personality:
For as long as she can remember, Datenshi has always been somewhat wary toward humans, and, though her time in Kanto helped ease this, she is still somewhat shy around most humans. She is somewhat selective as to who she calls friend, especially after a person she admired in Kanto betrayed her, but she wholeheartedly trusts anyone Abyss does. Datenshi, while more mature for her travels in Kanto, is somewhat childish by nature, and absolutely loves playing pranks and games and prefers sweets to nearly any other food. She considers herself a Pokemon, and trusts Pokemon far more readily than humans, and favors Ghost- and Dark-type Pokemon over all others.

Brief Biography:
Not a whole lot is known about Datenshi's past beyond 17 years ago, when she appeared at Mt. Pyre one day. From that day onward, Datenshi was often seen around the mountain, playing with the Shuppet and Duskull who lived there. After a year of trying unsuccessfully to find her parents, the couple who looked after Mt. Pyre tried to take her in, but the child refused, preferring instead to live among a family of Shuppet and Banette. When Datenshi turned 19, the old couple gave her a pokeball with which to catch a Shuppet, and a ticket for a luxury liner destined for Kanto. Reluctant to leave, Datenshi resisted at first, until her 'family' finally convinced her it was best to go. Three days later, Datenshi was on her way to Kanto with 5 pokeballs, an old Pokedex, an old Pokegear, and a Cleanse Tag, looking forward to exploring a whole new world with her closest sister, Abyss. After a couple years of traveling and misadventures in Kanto, word of a region she'd never heard of reached her ears. Having been given a hearty appetite for adventure during her travels in Kanto, Datenshi just *had* to go!

I'm interested in this project, however, I am already involved in regional politics and am unsure how well I could participate in this with my new schedule. How late will you be accepting applications?

Given my track record for keeping up with these things, I should probably refrain from making an app and just observe. If I do decide to make an app, I have some ideas for new characters instead of the old one I keep recycling.
The United Settlements of Sitka - the land of friendly vampires, camaraderie, and cloudberry pie
A small corner of the world in 1872. Set in the world of the video game 80 Days, with supernatural beings mixed in. Several factbooks need to be redone.
I'm socially awkward sometimes, and bad at keeping up with things due to life's hecticness, so I might not always be the best at roleplays etc.
The Times: Englishman Phileas Fogg departs London, having bet £20,000 that he can circumnavigate the globe in 80 days.
Local News: Karl Marx visits Sitka, is "impressed".

Only a faceclaim. And a coincidence. Like I said in the title of the app post, she's an old character from my Proboards days. Indigo League/Indigo League From The Ashes, if anyone's interested/familiar (and don't worry, her English has greatly improved.).

Chomper
The Garchomp!

Image

Gender: Female
Age: 22

Personality: Being a Garchomp, one would expect Chomper to be a fierce, aggressive creature. When you get to know her however, you'll find that she is a big softy, an incredibly loving one with that. If harm were to come to her trainer however... Well, that's when her species' aggressive nature shines.
Brief Bio: As an egg, Chomper was given to a 10 year old Hazel, who cared for the egg until it hatched into a Gible. Since then, a nigh-unbreakable bond has formed between the two and Chomper has evolved twice since then.

Trainer: Professor Hazel Filbert
Pokéball Type: Luxury Ball
Ability: Sand Veil
Attacks: Dual Chop, Sand Tomb, Dragon Claw, Flamethrower, Sandstorm and Draco Meteor

Hmm... looks interesting.

A few questions
1) Will we get any description/pictures of the fakemons?
2) Is there a limit on the 'level' a starter Pokemon can be (for learning moves for example)?
3) Can those 6 moves it knows at the start include Egg Moves, Move Tutor Moves or TM's the Pokemon could of learnt before the RP starts?
4) Do you have any idea on the types that the Gym Leaders are going to use?
5) Do you want any help with the worldbuilding beyond new Fakemons?
6) If we want our Pokemon to evolve into a certain form (For example wanting a Tyrogue to evolve into Hitmonchan) do we get the choice as players, or do you or the Co-ops decide on it (randomly or otherwise).

I will answer in the same order you asked in

1. Yes, there are links to pictures.
2. Level 5 just like the games, though it'll probably change as we move forward so late-joiners can catch up quickly.
3. I'm inclined to say no to the TMs and Tutor Moves, Egg Moves are free game.
4. Yes.
5. It would be appreciated, yes.
6. Train that Tyrogue in being a defensive mofo and it'll evolve into a Hitmonchan. Train it into a monster with a godlike attack stat while holding a Bravery Beard and you'll get Hitmon fucking NORRIS.

Eh, crap. I'll have to rework Datenshi, then.

No Hitmontop?

Hitmontop happens when the Attack and Defence stat are equal to one another
Hitmonchan happens when the Defence stat is greater than the Attack stat
Hitmonlee happens when the Attack stat is greater than the Defence stat
Hitmonnorris happens when all of the stats are maxed on a 6IV Tyrogue holding a Bravery Beard
