The Story
July 21st, 1944 - Servograd is a key industrial city in the Soviet Union and was the last opposition city before finally being able to reach Poland along with Romania. Servograd hosts a population or once did of around 732,000 and was a fairly popular city. Under the German Occupation. It fared well. But there were many incidents of people being mysteriously taken away at night and never heard from again. This event triggered the Soviet operation "Operation: Servograd's Liberation" which was the complete liberation of Servograd from German forces.
Initially. The battle played out like most on the eastern front and there was fierce street combat and not to mention hand to hand combat until reports of bright flashes in the sky happened. This incident triggered a temporary Soviet retreat until they could reorganize their men and of course figure out what was going on. After some time, Soviet patrols encountered heavily-bloodied German soldiers who reeked of death. When asked to surrender they did not and some charged at Soviet soldiers attempting to cannibalize them. The incidents continued until a formal investigation by Soviet High Command was launched with another assault taking place. This time the battle resulted in a minor Soviet defeat with Soviet soldiers being demoralized by German soldiers that they killed weeks earlier rising seemingly from the dead. The Soviet High Command and Josef Stalin ordered "Operation: Servograd" which was a vague operation and was given to quite a few troops who would be sent to Servograd and the Oblast of Servograd.
This is where the third battle for Servograd will take place. You, the soldiers have no idea what is about to happen. Only rumors of a new secret weapon the Germans are using persist among the ranks. A strict Political Kommisar has been deployed to your battalion that will be deployed to the Servograd Oblast and he will not see a retreat. There is a target list. Supposedly, Soviet High Command has marked SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer Hans Dietrich as a potential target who may behind the research serving as a SS researcher and also, a fierce nazi.
The tank plowed through the outskirts of Eastern Servograd as the infantry platoon huddled closely behind it as talks of snipers being in almost every tall building around made anyone scared and of course a easy target. Meanwhile inside the tank, Ivan scanned the perimeter and noticed a German officer in a dusty snow-covered leather trenchcoat with an Waffen-SS cap peering back at him with binoculars. The officer then lowered his binoculars revealing his bloodied mouth and of course a frost-bitten face seemingly.
Ivan shouted "What the fuck?!" to which his comrade Sasha tried to calm him down until he himself took a look and saw nothing there. He simply said to his comrade "Ivan, you saw nothing, comrade. See, there is nothing out there." as he pushed Ivan to the optics. Ivan seeing nothing was not satisfying for him and insisted with his comrades as the tank continued moving forward that he saw something. One of the soldiers from the Platoon proceeded to sneak away into a jewelry store that was surprisingly unlooted. He proceeded to stuff his wool-coat with as much as it could hold.
Suddenly, a creak from a floorboard in the back of the store caused him to aim his Mosin Nagant down the store's non-lit galleria. Suddenly within a visible sight came five German soldiers with frostbit-faces and bloodied mouths, some with rotting flesh. He fired his mosin nagant as they charged him and begun to bite him wildly as his screams filled the air. One soldier walking with the platoon commented "What the fuck was that? A scream? That's from our rear?" and another commented "Where is Dmitri? The short one?!"
The Political Kommissar bravely climbed ontop of the tank's rear and shouted at the men "We keep moving, understood? There are no enemies in the eastern portion. Our bombers cleared them. Keep moving!" before he fired a shot from his pistol which wasn't unusual as there was the atmosphere of heavy gunfire and bombs dropping in the city. The tank once again continued moving with the men in tow.
