The Road to Lenainville

Dark trees rolled by as the bus tumbled through the French backroads. Most of these roads were dirt with occasional stretches of pavement when they got closer to towns and villages. Only the vague impression of the forest could be seen through the windows which were tinted, both inside and outside. Most of the trees were crowned with the with brilliantly green leaves that glowed from the rays of the sun up above. Others had branches of twisted trees which stretched sinisterly to grasped the heavy somberness of the forest. The bus still had about twenty minutes to reach the old manor beyond the approaching village, where It’s passengers will be living new lives forever…

Filia Umbrarum

Young Filia was sitting anxiously in her seat, her eyes on the passing trees, eager to see the coming village and the manor that will be her new home. The white hair girl, however, gave a little yelp upon a sudden shake of the bus as it drove over a rather large bump in the dirt road. She nearly called out to the bus driver to be more careful, but she was pretty far away and the driver was much hidden behind a tinted window.

Glancing around Filia looked at the other kids on the bus some of whom seemed to be sitting alone with a strong amount of reservation. They were an odd and colorful bunch of kids with a seemingly wide range of powers. What caught her eyes most was an odd looking snake kid with a boa around his shoulders and a box in his hands that made hissing noises. He seemed quite happy just sitting there with his snakes, which was cool because Filia liked snakes. ,There was also a strange peer of kids sitting close together in what seemed to be arguing. The girl had blazing red hair, along with a nice looking necklace that caught Filia’s thievish eyes, and the boy with pale skin had hair as white as her own. They were twins, and had powers over fire and Ice, but they didn't seem to like each other at this time.

The young girl sighed and looked around, seeing that aside from the twins, everyone else were quite older than her. Nonetheless, Filia was eager to make friends while she still can. She caught eye of a Japanese boy sitting in a seat across from her. What was his name? Tadakuni Ishizawa? Quickly moving, the half-demon quickly sat close to the boy and smiled sweetly at him with hellish orange eyes.

“Hey, pretty neat where we’re going, huh?” Filia asked, her soft voice thick with Native New York, “Heard the school we’re going to live in is actually a mansion. Cool huh?”

Jack Frost

Jack was relaxing with a book in his hands as the bus drove to the school. It was going to be interesting being with other meta children like himself. The only other that he knew of before was his twin, Jessica, but she is such a hot head, literally. While Jack saw himself as calm and relaxed, he saw his sister as brash, bossy and incredibly annoying. The other kids on the bus looked cool, though. The white haired girl looked very pretty and the snake guy seemed like a cool, but albeit weird dude. Still, he could just imagine what his sister could do should she lose her temper.

Speaking of which, the bus began to feel quite hot than it should be. The boy sighed in annoyance as Jessica had a love for heat he just couldn't understand. "Oi! Jessica! Can you knock it off with the heat, hot head?" Jack called out coldly and calmly, shooting his twin a look up from his book, his hand making a snow ball out of thin air, "You know how much I like it cold! How about you sit next to the snake guy if it bothers you that much?!"

Both students were stopped by a sudden warning from the bus driver….

Jessica Scorch

As the bus drove towards that strange French town she heard much about, Jessica Scorch bobbed her head excitedly. Having gotten bored from the trip already, having enough of her cold-brained brother, the girl took to listening to Queen on her phone. Not that she wasn't eager to get to know the other kids on the bus. The white hair girl and the snake kid both looked totally wicked. There were other kids as well and who knows what powers they have.

Eventually though, it began to feel quite cold in the bus. It was ether because of a breeze from an open window or Jack just liked using his power. Hoping to heat things up a bit to get comfy, Jessica manipulated the nearby temperatures to much warmer degrees. "How about you sit somewhere else, Ice Brain!" The girl fired back at her twin, her hand making a flame, "I like it hot and so must that snake guy over there. Can't see him being in your room. He would freeze to death in your ice box of a room!"

Andrew "Snake Eyes" Marks

Andrew Marks sat in the very back of the bus as it drove towards Lenainville. Stroking the chin of the boa constrictor that laid relaxingly sprawled across his shoulders, he was excited for his chance to live with kids much like himself. Andrew remembered being teased for his appearance, but since he would be living with other meta children, it wouldn't be a problem anymore.

No more bullies shoving me down stairs, huh, Rango? asked the snake kid with a grin, Though I wonder if the others having powers would make any difference considering my… appearance.

I wouldn't worry about that… the boa constrictor replied back in Andre’s mind, looking around and eyeing Leila Stoderew, Try making friends and see what happens. Talk to that pretty girl for example sitting next to you…

Through Rango’s eyes, Andrew saw the pretty brown haired girl and smiled slightly. He had doubts in the back of his mind, as he haven't had much experience talking to girls.Yet, Andrew still took Rango’s advice and turned his glazed white eyes to her. “Uh… Hello, Miss, um…” Andrew frowned, not knowing the girl’s name, and growing concerned again about her possible feeling towards snakes.

Professor Invisible

The heavily bandaged man at the wheel of the bus always wanted to be a teacher. He had sought to educate children since his days in the Soviet Union. If it weren't for the accident so many years ago, Jonathan would have fulfilled that dream sooner. Luckily, a dear old friend of his had a rather revolutionary idea of turning his mansion into a school. When Jonathan was offered the job as teacher, he just couldn't refuse.

Driving through the dirt road, Jonathan grunted as he felt the jolt of the bump in the road. He glanced at the rear view mirror and smiled upon seeing everyone was alright. However, the bandaged man frowned deeply at the sight of the two of the kids, the twins, having a heated argument.

Jonathan reached for his speaker. “Children, as a reminder, fighting and violent use of powers will not be tolerated.” He said, “There are devices fitted in the vehicle designed to neutralize your powers if need be. Thank you.”

Raphael Raymond and Rachel Dawns

Trailing the bus containing living wmds, a small purple Volkswagen bug also drove down the dirt road towards the nearby village. Deemed at the moment too unstable to be near the other children, the young vampire fledgling in the back seat snarled and spoke incoherently as he held a blood pack in his hand. Every now and then, the young Raphael Raymond would savagely tear into one and drink It’s contents, putting him to rest and ease.

The driver, a blond haired Dhampir, named Rachel Dawn, who was also designated as Raohael’s aid, glanced at the boy in her rear view mirror. She felt bad for him, considering she never gone through the vampire fledgling stage, and never really suffered family lost. Rachel was born a half-vampire, thus never really considered the prospects of the vampiric transformation for humans. Now she have, it all seemed horrifying to her.

“Don't worry Raph.” Rachel spoke sweetly, “Almost there…”

Tadakuni

His suitcase was packed full of casual clothes and outfits, but for his first day of school, Tadakuni Ishizawa III went full-out formal, decked out in a white and deep blue winter kimono bearing the Ishizawa clan’s mon. It was only natural, considering his samurai lineage, but it did feel a little awkward to be dressed so formally when most everybody else around him had opted for a more understated look for their first day. Perhaps it was a cultural difference? In any case, he looked spiffy in the kimono, complete with his two sword-shaped cases slung across his shoulder with the words “居合道劔” emblazoned across.

A girl with long white hair had taken a seat beside him. Tadakuni gingerly shifted his sword cases and suitcase to make space for her; thankfully, his rather bulky briefcase was stowed in the bus’ storage compartment.

“Hey, pretty neat where we’re going, huh?” The girl had said to him, in an unmistakeable New York accent. “Heard the school we’re going to live in is actually a mansion. Cool, huh?”

Tadakuni smiled back at her.

“Yea”, he said, in a distinct cockney that was totally incongruous with his otherwise oriental appearance. “This is the first time
I’ve lived in a boarding school. Exciting.”

He shifted the briefcase again. While it could easily have been stowed, Tadakuni had opted to hold on to it, for it contained his collection of prized kitchen knives, some inherited from his grandfather and some bought with his own savings. A very large collection it was, too, comprising even the most obscure of culinary weaponry like the mezzaluna and a massive Chinese meat cleaver meant to shatter bones for soup. Best not to keep such a delicate yet deadly cargo in the common cargo area.

“Sorry about the briefcase and all”, he said to the girl with an apologetic chuckle. “I hope you’re comfortable?”

In the front, the driver had made some warning regarding the use of powers, apparently in response to a petty fight between a pair somewhere in front of Tadakuni and the girl. He didn’t know what exactly was going on, but Tadakuni knew he wasn’t likely to use his power anyways.

“What’s your name?” He asked the girl.

Leila | The Bus

Nearly there. The thought of starting a new life daunted her just ever so slightly; not least Because in fewer than 20 minutes she'd not only be moving into a new house/boarding school - always a worrying prospect- but also be surrounded by unfamiliar teachers, faculty and other adolescents (though many, herself included were closer to young adults). She stared out the window to distract herself, counting trees and cars and sheep as they ahuffled by outside the tinted, no doubt one-way windows. Maybe It wouldn't be so bad. After all, her new home could surely teach her how to control her abilities; and if not, then at least deal with them.

Leila heard a boy talk. Well, not so much talk but stammer. She turned to face Andrew, taking in his appearance with a hint of surprise, but moreso than that, instantaneous sympathy. She knew how hard It could be living with afflictions like these. She thought her childhood had been rough, trying to make friends with a myriad of burns and scars plastered on her face and arms. This milk-eyed boy covered in scales would've had it even worse. She summoned up her best smile, hid her arms at her side and turned to face him, hoping not to flub their first encounter ever.

"Stoderew. My name is Leila Stoderew. Y'know, I'm kind of nervous. It's crazy to think where we'll be and what we'll be doing soon, isn't it? So what's your name?"

Joaquin

Ostia!" Cursed Joaquin under his breath as he was unpleasantly awakened when the left side of his head bounced against the window. The bus shook again as he groggily rubbed his eyes with one hand and the sore spot beneath the wool hat with his other hand.

Naptime seemed to be over for Joaquin and he turned to look outside at the new scenery. He seemed transfixed at the greens and browns of some french woods, obscured by the tinted windows of a bus bumping along some dirt road in the french countryside. It would have been quite a nice sight though, dreamily even if it wasn’t for the sore bump on his head, or the fact that he wasn’t there willingly, but that’s how things were.

Once the mirage lost its magic, he moved to the seat beside him to take a better look at other inhabitants of the "weird-people-bus"; it was filled with powereds, metas, mutants and monsters. Everyone in there were own unique way just like him, yet most seemed to be younger than him.
"Better take them before they become a threat to the fucking man in charge" he said to himself before sighing.

His eyes went up again for another scan of his new would-be classmates, until he stopped on someone in particular. It was a nice looking asian girl around his age, yet that wasn’t the only reason she caught his attention, it was her eyes, her stare, her hole demeanor. She had that look of someone who has either seen or gone through some shit, she was lacking those rose-tinted glasses that a hole lot of metas seemed to ignorantly carry around.

"Guess it’s time to make some acquaintances" He thought before letting out a small yawn and proceeding to walk calmly but surely towards her before smiling and saying:
"Hey, I'm Joaquin. Is this seat taken?"
That God's name is Abraxas

Aurelia Gastrell

Aurelia was used to trying to be invisible, something she achieved by being very average at everything she did. She was rather good at it, if she didn't say so herself. This new situation she found herself in though was somewhat different from what she was used to. How could you be an 'average' meta-human? She wasn't entirely sure, but was confident she could figure it out... in time. Right now, there others were starting to socialise and some of the males in the group were gravitating towards girls they liked the look of, and Aurelia didn't want to be the strange longer in the corner. She reached into her rucksack, producing a bag a french caramel sweets, taking one, before rattling the bag in the direction of the rest of the bus, "Anyone want one?" she offered.

"Hey mate!" Erastus called from where he had been sitting in the corner, casually sprawled across two seats at the back of the bus. His accent was distinctly Australian, "I'm old enough to vote in elections, drink alcohol, join the military and sleep around." he winked at the nearest girl who looked like she was as well, which happened to be Aurelia, who shot him a dirty look in return, "... and if I get busted doing something I'm not supposed to, I can serve a full adult prison sentence. But never fear, I'm not going to blow your bus up. Not while I'm on it."

Erastus found being described as a child irritating, but he also wanted to see how their teacher would react to a challenge. He was here to learn how to control his artefacts, but there was no reason he couldn't have a bit of fun while he was at it.

Chiara “Clara” Wang | White Rose

“Well, this will be interesting...” Clara muttered to herself. Taking a breath, she popped a few of her toes and tried to crack her ribs silently as she adjusted her stance. Right now, she was wearing some regular, plain clothing - her bones prickled at the edges of her skin in the right places; she'd be able to summon her armor at a moment's notice.

“Here goes nothing.”

Clara walked over to some of the other students, where they were mostly gathered together. Another popping of her pinky let her feel confident and reassured. “Hello.”

Jacqueline “Jackie” Farvald | Blackjack

Jackie smirked to herself as she just-so-happened to find a place to sit that hadn't been taken, yet. Looking around, she found that she wasn't really seeing anyone she might get along with. But then again, who knew? Her power could probably find somebody she'd get along with well enough. She'd be 'lucky' and happen to bump into them, she was certain of that much at least.

“Heads.” She flipped a coin. It landed on heads. “Tails.”

This time, it landed on tails. It was easy to get her desired result when luck twisted to make sure she got it right. Jackie noticed someone near her spot, and whispered. “Hey; wanna make a bet?”

Easy mark.

Julian Augustine | Princeps

Julian had been around for a very, very long time. Still, that meant he had plenty of experience to give to the students who came. If they were willing to listen to his expertise, that is. For all that he was essentially immune to the tests of time, his youthful appearance sometimes caused him some trouble.

For example: he always had at least one person underestimate him, based on what seemed to be his age. Julian was always very quick to prove them wrong - instilling upon them the importance of never making such a fatal error as underestimating one's opponent. Currently, Julian was in his usual dress - his hair was also kept neat and prepared. He always preferred to be presentable. Allowing oneself to have a sloppy appearance was just - unprofessional at best, and downright disgusting at worst.

Still, he could cope with younger people's tastes - he had to adapt to survive, after all. He was in the auditorium, patiently awaiting his turn to introduce himself. He adjusted the collar of his shirt slightly, looking around the large room with a flicker of his eyes.

Hopefully, these students would understand the full implications of his age.

Cedere nescio. Julian felt the words were fitting, in this instance - for if they did not apply to him, they would apply to at least some of those present.

Cedere nescio: “I know not how to yield.”

Mariah Wickham
Bus

Mariah sat alone, as usual, on the bus. She looked out the window, watching the scenery pass by. She vaguely listened in to the conversations of the people around her, though she didn't take part- not that she could. She kept her face towards the window, hoping to hide the site of her mask from anyone that glanced her way. If someone saw they'd likely come over and either ask a bunch of questions about it, or just skip that step and go right to mocking her for it. She sighed internally, and leaned her head against the cool glass.

Even here, I feel like an outcast. she thought. While it's true that everyone around her was different, she seemed to be the only one who wasn't speaking to the others. Perhaps her parents had been mistaken about this school. Maybe she was just wasting her time, and she was doomed to her existence of quiet solitude. She pulled out her tablet and looked down at it. Her parents had already sent her a message asking her how she was doing, though she didn't respond.

Rowan Ophelius

Rowan was out of it. Not surprising, considering the circumstances. Spending a week in France by himself before his new mysterious life at school started had been quite an experience. He had taken some time to relearn everything and even learn some new things, mainly about French culture. He was lucky to have found some restaurants that took pity on him and let him eat for free, or else he would have had to go dumpster diving for nourishment. It also surprised him, considering he had heard a story from his mother once about their visit to France...

No, he thought, suppressing the memory of his past. Let's not overcomplicate things. There will be a time for all of that later. His dream he'd had while staying a month at the school still drove him insane. What does it mean? What exactly happened?

To distract himself, he found himself looking at a nearby student and attempting to imitate them. Within a minute, he opened the camera app on his phone and found, to his delight, that he was a carbon copy. He turned towards the student - Erastus, he thought he'd heard his name was - hoping that he would notice.

Filia Umbrarum

Filia moved so the boy could move his briefcase to make her feel comfortable. Finding it sweet, the half-demon smiled at Tadakuni before turning a little red as she tugged on to her long white hair. It was something the girl did when she found someone to be cute. "Oh I'm very comfortable." The young teen replied, "My name's Filia Umbrarum. If the last name sounds familiar It's because my Dad runs a big company that makes all sort of tech, like cell phones and such."

Filia smiled and reached for her side to take out a cell phone from a holster strapped to her dress. She showed it to him how high tech it was and wondered if Tadakuni has one too. Really the tech company was the only thing that she liked about her father's business. The burden of the Crime Family have proven to be quite heavy despite her own kleptomanic urges.

"So, got any powers, Mister, um...?"

Andrew Marks

Andrew smiled at Leila as she spoke to him, staring at her through Rango's eyes. First time he gets to meet a girl without her screaming at his appearance upon introductions. In fact, none of the of the other students seem to have a problem with him. At least they have yet to call him "lizard freak" or something.

"My name's Andrew Marks, Ms Leila." The snake boy greeted, before pointing out the boa constrictor, "This is Rango, my seeing eye snake and my best friend in the whole world! He talks to me and whatever I see. I got a whole bunch of snakes in this box as well..."

Jessica Scorch

Jessica pouted and turned away from her idiot brother before deciding that it was best to part from him. After all, perhaps the professor was right. They did cause trouble together. She looked around before spotting a girl with black hair, blue eyes and a tattoo of doves on her left arm sitting at the other end of the bus.

The girl gave Jack a death stare before carefully getting up and sitting beside the black haired girl. "Hey, man, can I sit with you?" Jessica asked, "Brothers can be a real pain, you know? Jack needs to keep his ice to himself."

Professor Invisible

Jonathan smiled as he glanced at Erastus through his rear view mirror, as he can see all other students. "I wasn't referring to you, Mister Clegg." He replied calmly, "Please do note that behavior of the Sokolov Twins are one of the reasons why the greater society lacks trust in us. This school we are going to hopes to remedy that as well as educate you."

Soon enough, the bus exited the forest and the sight of trees became replaced with stone buildings. The town of Lenainville was a hodgepodge of modern architecture and buildings going back as far as the fifteenth century. It was a lively, bustling town of restaurants, mom and pop stores and entertainment centers. The crown jewel of the town, though, was a large Church that towered over the rest.

Jonathan smiled as each of the kids would begin to gaze at the town. "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Lenainville." He said, his Russian accent thick, "Beyond the town would be our home and school. We will be visiting the town at times, but please be careful with the locals..."

Mariah Wickham
Bus

Mariah was staring down at her tablet when suddenly someone sat by her, startling her a little. She looked up at the red haired girl, not expecting anyone to speak to her at all. The girl asked her if she could sit there, though she already was so there wasn't a whole lot of point in asking. Mariah sheepishly nodded, suddenly very aware of the sound of her breathing through the respirator. She tried to quiet it some so it wasn't as noticeable. She quickly typed something out on her tablet and an electronic voice from it spoke for her, "I wouldn't know, I'm an only child." After a moment she realized this might seem odd to the girl, so Mariah motioned towards her face with one hand and shook her head.

Erastus and Aurelia

Erastus was surprised by the Professor's reaction and sort of impressed. He had expected to be dressed down... he didn't have much time to think on the matter though, for he then noticed he was looking at a pretty solid replica of himself. It was... weird, but he should have expected weird when mixing with a group of meta-humans, "Huh." he said, momentarily lost for something better to say, "Neat trick. You're Erastus Clegg by the way. Pleasure to meet me."

He left a moment for the imposter Erastus to introduce himself before asking the most important question he could think of at that moment, "So do you stay male the whole time or can you switch it up if you want to... like could you become her." he nodded at Aurelia, mostly because he got the impression she didn't really approve of him, "Like could you do her?"

"Hey!" Aurelia protested, "I'd rather there was just one of me walking around, thanks... although it must be interesting to have a skill like that. I mean, if people don't know you can switch your look up then you can get away with just about anything, but if they do know, then they can blame you for anything and it's pretty hard to prove who did what."

"Hah!" Erastus remarked upon looking out at the town, "Last time I saw a church like that I was with some people trying to hunt down one of the aos sí who'd got a whole lot of people in some small town convinced she was an angel from God and had them arming up for the apocalypse." he chuckled at the memory, "She was as mad as a fruit bat. I'm pretty certain she'd convinced herself she was an angel... although I shouldn't laugh actually, she killed a lot of people before someone shot her. Not sure what happened after that, but the cult didn't last; I'm pretty sure angels aren't supposed to bleed."

"I have literally no idea what an 'aos sí' is." Aurelia remarked. She managed to sound scathing though in truth she was quite interested. Erastus was talking like it was a completely different species. If that was true, then the world was a whole lot bigger than she understood and maybe there were some others out there like her. She had to have come from somewhere.

Rowan

"From what I can tell, I could become her if I wanted, but in this specific case, I probably won't. It's just nicer not to, I guess, since she'd asked and what not." That was the one thing he remembered being taught by his parents - to be nice. It seemed to work in France, and hopefully, it would work here. He transformed himself into his natural appearance. "This is what I look like when I'm not imitating."

Leila Stoderew | The Bus

Huh. This boy really was a snake guy; not just in appearance but interests, too. Of course, being the snakeboy he was, his potential friendship circles were probably pretty limited. Did snakes gossip? Did they form packs and social groups or were they loners by nature? Frankly, it amazed Leila that this guy was even able to talk. Then again, he'd probably been coddled or pushed away by humans his entire life. She ignored the whole snake-schtick in favour of focusing on what he said, which was, unsurprisingly, about snakes.

"Woah! No need to be so formal. Just call me Leila, or Lee. So you've got a couple of snakes in that box, huh? Hope they don't feel too cramped in there. So how's Rango? Is he smart, emotional or- actually, do snakes even have personalities? Gah, there's so much I don't know."

"Ishizawa", Tadakuni replied with a boyish grin. "I'm Tadakuni Ishizawa... the third. Nice to meet you, Filia."

He quietly looked at the girl's cellphone, marvelling at its technological wonder with sparkling amber eyes wide open, then turned his eyes back to his own iPhone 6+, perhaps a little sheepishly. Tadakuni had never been one who cared much for getting his paws on the latest tech, but he did sometimes feel a tinge of jealousy at seeing futuristic things.

"Oh, yeah-"

Tadakuni looked back at Filia, but then his voice trailed off.

"I... do, actually, have a power. It's just that I'd rather not... you know..."

"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Lenainville."

Cut off by the sound of the Russian-accented voice filling the bus, Tadakuni squinted and squirmed in his seat to see who was doing the talking (a rather foreboding-looking man in a mask), then sat back down and quietly looked out of the moving bus for a moment, taking in the sights that went past in a barely-discernible blur as the bus rumbled on towards its destination. The boy could hardly keep the excited churning inside his stomach.

"So, got any hobbies... Filia?" he asked the girl, almost forgetting her name but remembering it at the last moment, barely able to conceal the anticipation in the colours of his voice.

Filia Umbrarum

Filial smiled coolly as she showed off her cell phone to the Japanese boy, turning a little pink again. It was pretty much brand new as her father got it for her last month. Her social status pretty much gave the young teen countless access to the latest stuff. She saw his iPhone and smiled as well, knowing how old it was compared to hers, but still high tech. Pretty cool all around.

“Nice to meet you, Mister Ishizawa.", Filia greeted before frowning in confusion at him refusing to explain his powers, “Why? Is something wrong with your power? Does it involve light magic or something? I don't do so well when it comes to that sort of thing…”

But such questions were left unanswered at the bus driver’s announcement that they arrived at the town of Lenainville. Filia eagerly looked out the tinted window to gaze upon the marvelous town. She loved visiting new places around the world and the young girl was excited to explore the one.

Filia looked at Ishizawa and smiled at his question about hobbies. She had plenty of hobbies, but there was one hobby she wasn't going to speak of anytime soon. “Oh, the usual girl stuff. Going to the mall with friends to try on new dresses and going to the salon.” She said before grinning, “Though I also love playing video games, comic books, action movies and horror movies… What about you?”

Andrew Marks

Andrew Marks and Rango stared at Leila together for a moment. It was quite rare to meet girls who have shown interest in his snakes. Most of them would simply shriek and flee in terror of him and his snake friends. Yet Leila was different being completely different from the girls back at the Orphanage. That white haired girl also seemed to have interest in his snakes.

“Oh snakes have all sorts of personalities.” He said, grinning with an enthusiastic voice, “”Rango is very smart and has been like a big brother to me. He always spoke me, even before I learned to see through snakes. Along with my caretakers back at the Orphanage in California, Rango was a voice for me in the darkness… I don't know what I’d do without him.”

Upon hearing the announcement Andrew gasped and manipulated Rango closer to the window to get a closer view of the town. “Wow…” he said, making a grin wide enough to reveal long curved fangs, “Such a cool looking place. The driver is right though. Better wear my hood when out in public…”

Jessica Scorch

“Hmph. Lucky.” Jessica muttered upon Mariah telling her that she was an only child, “Brothers can be real pain in the ass.”

Suddenly, however, Jessica did a double take and looked back at Mariah and her tablet. Did the girl just reply to her by using the tablet she had? How unusual, Jessica thought to herself, pondering in thought. Then again, judging by the mask thing Mariah wore, she must be unable to speak, needing to use devices to communicate. Good thing too as Jessica couldn't understand sign language.

The red headed girl smiled and choose not to speak about Mariah’s disability. “So you got cool stuff on your phone?” Jessica asked with a grin as she showed that other girl her own, “Want to share numbers so we can text to each other? We can have private girl to girl talks that way. Name’s Jessica, by the way, Jessica Scorch. My idiot brother is Jack, or rather Jack Frost, as he likes to call himself…”

Mariah Wickham
Bus

Mariah glanced down at her tablet and looked at it, shrugging. She tapped something out quickly. "It depends what you consider cool, I guess." The girl introduced herself, and Mariah didn't really know how to react, so she just used the "My name is Mariah Wickham." hotkey. She looked further up the bus to the girl's brother, Jack. She wondered if she envied the girl for having a sibling, even if it seems that they didn't get along. Then again, it's likely that her hypothetical sibling would have the same afflictions as her, and she wouldn't wish that on anyone.

She looked back at Jessica and typed something out. "Most conversations I have are private. I assume you've figured out by now that I can't talk." She relaxed her breathing through her mask a little, but still moderated it so it wasn't as easy to hear.

Joaquin

Without really waiting for an answer, Joaquin simply slumped down on the vacant seat and reclined it to get himself more comfortable.

"Let me guess, you're Chiara Wang right? Pleasure is mine and all that stuff, you can call me Jo or Jay or any other way that tickles your fancy."
He said while nonchalantly offering his hand for a shake
"To be honest you seemed decent enough so I thought I'd introduce myself.
He took a pack of gum from his matte black bubble vest, taking one before offering to Chiara
"Fresh mint. Want some?"

Triassica wrote:"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Lenainville." He said, his Russian accent thick, "Beyond the town would be our home and school. We will be visiting the town at times, but please be careful with the locals..."

"Seems like we'll be there shortly. So, are you excited to go live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere or what? Beats going to prison in my case. But tell me about you, what qualifies you to join this merry band of hero wannabes? What's your power?"

Leila Stoderew | Lenainville

What was that expression he was wearing? Andrew seemed very, very surprised by Leila's relative openness to his condition. Maybe there was something about him that just naturally made her feel at ease; his uneasiness about his own power that she shared. That, or she'd been born into a particularly nonplussed generation; either one was a possibility. She stared at Rango for a while, looking over its scales and black eyes. It didn't seem overtly aggressive, though she was sure it could easily do so if it felt threatened. Best to behave around the man who can talk to snakes, after all.

"So, Rango was kinda your best friend back when you were younger, right? That's pretty neat. You didn't have to hide him, right? I know a couple of places wouldn't let you keep a snake on the premises, much less in your room. Besides that though, why did Rango find you? Did he just stumble across you one day or were you looking for someone to talk to?"

The view outside the bus shifted to a more urban environ and the driver announced that they'd arrived at the town. Well, they'd be embarking soon, Leila supposed. Honestly the whole ordeal made her feel uneasy. Coming out here to this isolated town alongside all these eccentric and potentially undeveloped people; living in a private mansion supposedly built to house them; and most of all, not having a clue what the curriculum, living conditions and discipline here would be like. It'd been talked up to be a place for children and teens to discover themselves but from where she was standing it seemed more like an agenda. Why was this guy taking such an interest in them?

"Well, okay then. Looks like we're about to arrive. And yeah, I agree. No offence but you'd draw less negative attention if you wore your hood. Our arrival here will probably be disquieting to the townsfolk even without seeing us in action."

"Me?" Tadakuni smiled back a little awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head as if it would help him answer more confidently. "Mm... just the usual, I suppose. I read a lot of books. Sometimes I play video games, like Fire Emblem... Oh, and I also like to cook. In fact..."

He reached down and lifted up his briefcase, opening the clasps and showing Filia the elaborate knives contained inside, packed neatly to avoid too much clattering.

"My grandfather owns a restaurant in my hometown", he explained. "I'm going to inherit it when he retires. So... yeah, I cook my own stuff. My dorm roommates used to pass me money and ask me to cook portions for them as well. Easy way to earn money, heh."

Her asking about his power made him fall silent, however. Tadakuni was loath to discuss his power, which he'd always felt like it never quite belonged or fit with the rest of his body, somehow. He went to great lengths to avoid having to use it or even to discuss it with other people. And yet, there was a little voice inside that told him... perhaps, just perhaps, it wouldn't be such a bad idea to be a little more open about it, especially given the change in environment...

"I have X-Ray eyes", he explained sheepishly, his verbal train of thought abruptly jumping from one subject to another. "But I don't really use it because it hurts my body. Strange, I know."

He really didn't need that circulating around the school's gossip circles this early. Gossip circles. Yet another concept I've just learned, he thought to himself. But how did I know what they were in the first place? So many unanswered questions.

Filia Umbrarum

Filia smiled broadly at Tadakuni’s talk of video games, happy to see that he shared her interest along with reading and cooking. She never played Fire Emblem before, though, but she recognized the characters from Super Smash Bros. “Wow! Cool!” She said, “My favorite games include the Kingdom Hearts Games, GTA, the Batman Arkham Games, Yakuza, and Resident Evil Games… I like to cook too, and I love reading Harry Potter. Anime is awesome as well…”

Filia looked down as Tadakuni showed her his knife set. The blades were cool looking, but also frightfully sharp as well. “Ooh… Wow.” She said looking back up at her new friend, “I hope I get to try your Grampa’s cooking. I love Japanese food. I travel a lot with my Dad, which lets me get to try all kinds of dishes from all over.”

Filia suddenly frowned, however, when Tadakuni said he actually had x-ray vision. She instinctively crossed her arms and legs, but then relaxed a bit when she learned that he didn't like his powers. “Oh…” she said, carefully, her unnaturally orange eyes shifting in thought, “I see… Uh, maybe I should confess my powers as well. You see… I'm not exactly human. ...Well, actually I am, but only half. My father is really a demon from another world and I basically inherited his powers to manipulate shadows.”

For an example, the young half-demon raised a hand, and suddenly shadows from tur darkest corners of the bus moved swiftly towards her. The shadows formed into an orb of darkness in her palm that floated slowly. “It also comes with immortality.” Filia added, “But the catch is that I can't be near holy places or exposed to sunlight. They can be lethal to me like a vampire…”

Jessica Scorch

Jessica nodded carefully at Mariah Wickham. “Yeah, I figured you couldn’t talk.” She admitted, glancing down at the respiratory mask, “Something happened to your throat and vocal cords?”

Jessica then looked at down at her own phones. “I actually meant ‘private, private’.” She said, “If we exchange numbers, we can text to each other at all times, even if we miles apart from each other. Want to exchange numbers?”

The red headed girl took out a little notebook and pen from a pack around her waist as she waited for a reply.

Andrew "Snake Eyes Marks

So, Rango was kinda your best friend back when you were younger, right? That's pretty neat. You didn't have to hide him, right? I know a couple of places wouldn't let you keep a snake on the premises, much less in your room. Besides that though, why did Rango find you? Did he just stumble across you one day or were you looking for someone to talk to?"

Andrew smiled more openly at Leila, his fangs and forked tongue more visible. “Rango was originally a pet at the Orphanage I grew up in.” He replied happily, stroking the boa constructor, “We all got turns taking care of him, even when we were little. I don't exactly remember when he started talking to me, really. Maybe it was just something that always happened since the beginning.”

You were three when I started talking to you. Rango replied in Andrew’s mind, Even then you always seemed lonely…

Andrew nodded and smiled at both Rango and Leila. Perhaps he should have his hood on when they get off. The boy often wore his hood when out in public at Los Angeles. Rango liked being warm and snug in there as well.

“So… what powers do you have, Leila?” Andrew asked with curiosity, Rango staring out the window for him, seeing the buildings become forest again, while he just listened.

Mariah Wickham
Bus

Mariah shrugged a little, typing. "Technically I could talk, but everyone on the bus would go deaf, and the windows would shatter spraying broken glass everywhere. No one's in danger if I just keep quiet though." She looked at her reflection in the window. "I'm sensitive to unclean air, the mask lets me breathe." She typed out her number on the tablet and angled the screen towards the girl.

"I came here hoping they could fix my voice, or at least learn to control it, what about you?" she asked.

Leila Stoderew | Bus

The town outside faded into the lush green of foliage once again. Seemed the manor was further out than she'd first expected. She looked at Andrew as he spoke to her, his reptilian eyes and Rango seemingly staring deep into her, even though she suspected Andrew was actually blind. Even if he was, the effect was unnerving but exhilarating. Her stomach churned at the prospect of arriving at her new home, coming under the control of new people she'd never met; so any kind of conversation was a welcome distraction from that train of thought.

"My power? Well, I can emit gas from my entire body. Most people can't breathe it, not even I can. I can set it on fire, move it around, make it explode... there's a lot of things I can change about it. I'm not sure if I can demonstrate on the bus but I think the ventilation's good enough that I can do this safely. I'll try replicating natural gas; it doesn't have a smell until factories add one in for safety purposes."

She held out her hand and cupped it, a tiny flickering flame building in the palm of her hand. She seemed to grow in her confidence and expanded the flame a bit, creating a neat candle-sized fire. She was normally reluctant to use her powers, afraid that she'd burn somebody alive, but whether it was the anxiety, her maturation or Andrew's innocent questioning, she seemed to care much less now. The warmth of the flame wasn't uncomfortable but it was very noticeable; Rango could definitely feel the heat and Andrew could probably smell the residue of the gas she was burning.

"Yeah. Kind of a pyrokinetic. It might seem flashy but honestly your power seems way more useful, since you get to talk to people and make friends who won't judge you for what you are."

"Cool... And what's your name?" Erastus asked.

The guy hadn't answered when either he or Aurelia had asked. They'd both given him the opportunity to dodge the question, but now Erastus was putting him on the spot... mostly because he wanted to figure out if the guy would get squirmy over the question. There were a whole lot of interesting supernatural monsters with hang-ups about their names and he wanted to figure out if he was sharing a classroom with one of them.
