Extra military information - The Brazilian Commune's rapid industrialization in recent years have led to brief food shortages throughout the 1930s, in the military as much as the civilian populace, but have led to many more weapons and much more equipment and infrastructure being produced at the nation's disposal. However, such shortages normally last only a few weeks or months each and the Brazilian government is currently focusing on combatting these periodic famines.
Currency - Real
Currency and value of currency compared to USD - 1 Real=0.50 USD
Major Domestic Issues - The spread of democratic and fascist ideologies from within the nation's major urban centers and border regions
Major Foreign Issues - Notoriously sour relations and high tensions with the neighboring Patagonian Military Junta, a fascist state consisting of Argentina and Chile, along with the Patagonian ally of a fascist Venezuela
History - In 1826, the Empire of Brazil wins the Cisplatine War, beating back the armies of Cisplatina (Uruguay) in their war for independence. By 1850, Brazil and Argentina were rivals as they fought for influence over South America; however, this never escalated into military conflict as it did in reality with the Platine War. These tensions never ceased and continue into the beginning of World War II. In 1865, Brazil defeated Paraguay in the Paraguayan War, which only involved Brazil and Paraguay, annexing all its territory. Later, in 1887, Brazil invades Bolivia, which were previously victorious against Chile in the War of the Pacific. After a long war with many losses to the Brazilian Army due to a harsh environment and the opposing Bolivian Army, Brazil eventually prevails, annexing the nation. Roughly around this time, Argentina and Chile unite into the Republic of Patagonia to counter the growing influence of Brazil. The period between 1890 and 1920 was relatively peaceful; however, the emperor's popularity was in a steady decline and civil unrest was on the rise over issues such as poor industrialization, agricultural output failing to sustain Brazil's rapidly growing population, and the Brazilian economy's shortcoming compared to those of the powers of Europe and the United States.
Subsequent to the 1917 Bolshevik defeat in Russia, Red Army leaders saw their opportunity and seized it, heading to Brazil where they became the faces of change against a government that had failed the working class of the nation. In 1924, a communist uprising took place in the North and the Central-West Regions of Brazil, along with the former areas of Bolivia and Paraguay. They defeated the remaining Empire of Brazil and the Brazilian Commune was established in 1930. They went on to annex Suriname, Guyana, and French Guiana later in the 1930s. As a result, Patagonian sympathies leaned farther towards the far-right to oppose the far-left Brazilians, only boosted by counterparts in Germany gaining the same popularity. In 1935, Patagonians elect a fascist leader who establishes the Patagonian Military Junta. The future of South America depends on the decisions these two combatting nations make in the following years.
