History of Humanity: 2190-Now wrote:The 21st and 22nd centuries of Earth's history were defined by civil conflict and constant warfare and the total stagnation and near collapse of society. Yet despite the hardships of those days, there were always individuals willing to fight for a better future not just for themselves, but for all of humankind. With the establishment of the World Union government in the later half of the 22nd century, Earth's various nations and peoples were finally unified under a single, centralized governing entity. Probably the most important of the developments that occurred during this era was that of the Michio-Hawking Warp Drive. While incredibly slow by modern standards, it ushered in a new age for humanity: one in which we would traverse the galaxy and establish ourselves a future beyond the void...


The year is 2950 CE, nearly 400 years since the fall of the humanity's former all-unifying govt: the "First Terran Republic". As its two large successor states fight a seemingly never-ending war against one another, across the galaxy empires expand and collapse, conflicts are fought, and exploration is conducted by countless enterprising individuals. It's a turbulent time, one of great change and constant activity.

Your civilization has proven its worth in advancing through the eras, and has finally made a stake for itself in the galactic community. Yet nothing stays certain, and what you have today may be lost tomorrow. Will you stand the test of time and prevail?

Abilities like Psionics and even Alchemy as well as Magic is allowed to be used in this Rp, but if the user is able to perform feats like taking a massive army on with only one person, this will not be tolerated. If there are any signs of abuse with these abilities, the Op and Co-Op will act accordingly on it.
6. If you have any questions for the Co-Ops or Myself, please feel free to ask at anytime!
7. Create Your own Nation! We will not be using pre-existing Sci-Fi Nations.
8. Have Fun! The Galaxy is a big place for exploration and can hold secrets that are beyond comprehension as well as those who are also hidden among the stars, there is a LOT to do here!

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:
Starting Date: January 1st, 2950 CE / UC (Universal Century) 740

- Most ships should be below 10km in length (with certain exceptions such as the infrequent supercarrier)
- Newcomers should not make human majority states (the human population is largely taken up) unless said states are otherwise quite small
- It should be noted that up till the 2500s, all of humanity had been united under a single state

- New nations should have 10,000 or fewer systems under their control (unless you've been told otherwise prior to the OP being released)

Technology Restrictions:

FTL Drives:
The ships of this RP use "Warp" Drives, systems that work along similar lines to the slipspace used in HALO with elements of star wars hyperspace as well. Warp is only possible on "hyperlanes": naturally occurring areas of the galaxy where ships are capable of entering FTL. This has allowed vessels to traverse the Galaxy in breakneck periods of time, with the fastest vessels capable of traversing the galaxy in under half a year. That being said, existing warp drives still suffer from a number of issues: they require time to recharge (due to massive energy consumption), aren't the most accurate (in many cases) for pinpointing a "drop-off" location, and are incredibly vulnerable to gravity disturbances (making artificial grav wells a suitable defense against ships).
- It should be noted that "conventional" Alcubierre drive exists, but is nearly 15-20 times slower than "warp" and higher in terms of energy consumption.

Jump / Wormhole Gates:
Another notable way of getting around the galaxy is the use of jump gates / wormholes. A large enough gate can allow upwards of an entire fleet to near instantaneously reach another point of the galaxy (provided its linked to a gate on the other end), making control of these points quite lucrative and strategically valuable. Only the largest warships around are equipped with gates of their own, and similar to their station-based counterparts, these gates require both an entry and exit point (a single ship with a wormhole generator cannot actually do anything unless there's another one on the other end). Wormhole / gate tech is generally quite expensive: a good deal of smaller nations will lack it.

Zero-Point energy:
Despite being theorized by countless scientists and worked on by multiple civilizations, zero-point energy is sadly still a thing of the future: nobody has it and nobody will for a very long time. However, if predictions are right, zero-point energy reactors could prove near 100% efficient and yield many times the amount of energy a conventional reactor could ever hope to. As of now, there's only one place in the galaxy that has this technology...

Her Imperial Majesty is a timeless entity, an ancient being who have watched many nations rise and fall. And occasionally, having a hand in either events - or both.

Born in the old Terran nation of Moldovia in 1465, she could trace her bloodline to the founder of the very nation - and it was a very short lineage. The former consort of the infamous Vlad Dracula of Wallachia - or as many came to call, Vlad the Impaler - she didn't as much as ascend the Moldovian throne as she simply impaled all opposition, and since then ruled until 2090, during the Reunification Wars, when she voluntarily abdicated rather than bring the wrath of the World Union military upon the last European monarchy. For the centuries after, the House of Mușat stepped back from politics, forging its own empire in the realm of trade and commerce. Alongside the former noble houses of Haakonsson, Loboda, Weiss, Muradasilova, Medvecia, and Drăculești, Moldovia's historical rulers began spreading their influence through the stars, and capitalising on the 2200s colonisation wave, consolidated their hold on the systems of the Perseus Edge.

Then the Terran Civil War broke out in 2548, and as the last nobility of ages past - by then having regained a portion of their former influence as system governors - watched the young regime that had taken their place fracture and collapse. And decided that, for all their limitless patience, the time for retribution has arrived. Olena, then Governor of the Mausoleum System, thus issued a call to arms almost a decade into the civil war in 2556. And the ghosts of Moldovia answered, putting the Republic to the sword and carving out an empire from their holdings in what became to be known as the Dusk Uprising. An empire that returned her to the throne, as the eternal Empress of the Night.

The Dusk Uprising - Ancients Awaken

It can be said that the Dusk Uprising began in Ossuary III, the system's seat of government, in what is called the Broken Night. Knowing that, as a "lowly administrator" he was unlikely to garner the support of the Republican soldiers - most of whom were from the Inner Systems - former system governor Hryhoriy Loboda instead raised his own troops - taking on volunteers from his own populace, training them with surplus equipment he gathered from the military, and forged them into a fighting force worthy of his campaign. Hryhoriy Loboda is known by many names, and usually not his birth name. Somewhere along the line, he picked up, inexplicable, the nickname of "Boris". Boris the Blade. Boris the Sneaky-fuckin'-Cossack. Boris the Tsarbane. His history is long, illustrious, and colourful; records of ancient Moldivia's Grand Sword Bearer may be found in the archives of various nations ranging from the First French Empire to the Soviet Union.

And in the year 2556, just short of a decade after the outbreak of the Terran Civil War, he once more began to do what he has always done best- leading an army. The Ossuary Legion marched upon the Republic garrison on Ossuary III, marking the start of the Founding.

As the former Grand Sword-Bearer's campaign grew and engulfed more and more systems, he was sooned joined by other forces that had pledged loyalty to their new Empress. He brought the various disparate groups of rebels into the fold, and as the Uprising drew to a close it was a unified, veteran combat force that emerged from the ashes of war, their mettle tested in battle and ready to defend their new empire. The Thirty Imperial Legions, with their Lord High Marshal leading them to into the dawning era before them.

In space, however, the events leading up to the Dusk Uprising began way earlier. In the final decades of the First Terran Republic, a Serana Haakonsson found herself - through a little political manoeuvring and a well-established position of influence - as the Governor of the Sepulchre System, a far flung colony that notably hosted a Republic shipyard. The same Serana whose army laid seige on the ancient Moldovian capital in the brief but bloody civil war that cemented Olena's reign back on Terra; the same Serana who later became High Chancellor of Moldovia; the same Serana who became the self-declared Empress' closest advisor.

When the shipyard was tasked with designing a new warship design for the Terran Republic's navy, Governor Haakonsson personally took an interest in the project - one which eventually led to the development of the Sabazios-class grand cruiser. Of course, Serana's actions weren't without reason. Along with the rest of Olena's inner circle, the changing political scene in the Republic had led to them making plans. Plans that, once put into action, would require a navy. Thus she delayed their delivery, citing a need for more thorough testing. And in the meantime, more ships were built - the two Zorya-class battleships, the Solomonărie-class heavy cruisers, and the Strigoi-class frigates.

At the outbreak of the Terran Civil War, it was this fleet - with Serana in command - that locked down the Perseus Edge. Proving herself more than capable in commanding the fledging and newly-christened Imperial Navy, she was named the Lord High Admiral - and in effect, became the first High Lord of the Imperium.

The Foundation Wars - Forging an Empire

The Foundation Wars, although technically being part of the Imperium's founding as much as the Dusk Uprising is, are often considered a separate historical event on the grounds that it was the first time the two main branches of the Imperium's military saw action in their current forms. It was in this period when the so-called third branch - the Imperial Guard - saw their definitive genesis. Beginning with the Astraeus Campaign and ending in the Hecate Crusades, it was a conflict of many natures.

To the galactic west of what would become the empire's capital Segmentum, Segmentum Astraeus came into the fold of the Empire with little resistance, eager to take advantage of the rising power for protection against the two main factions that had appeared from the First Republic's fall. The Astraeus Campaign was characterised by the large role played by diplomacy, and for most parts became an exercise of administration. What little resistance that spawned, uncoordinated and floundering, were quickly put down by the second-oldest Imperial Guard chapter - the Silverguards, former honour guards of the Imperial Legions' Lord High Marshal.

To the south in Segmentum Tartarus, the campaign took the form of an anti-piracy action - the far reaches mostly beyond the First Republic's control being rife with crime and corsairs. Here, the Imperial Navy taking the forefront, and what would later become the Imperial Guard's Hróðvitnir chapter leading the Imperial Marines to eternal glory.

To the north lies Segmentum Astraeus, where the fiercest fighting with Republican forces took place. Such was the importance placed upon the Astraeus Campaign that the sole Imperial Guard chapter to be founded prior to the Foundation Wars - the Duskborn Knights - was chosen to lead the campaign. It was in this conflict that the Praetorians, the fourth Guards chapter, earned the recognition to be founded.

The bloodiest campaign, however, was with the various warlords that occupied the eastern territories of the Imperium. In what was later called the Hecate Crusades, it was also the only part of the Foundation Wars that wasn't led by the Imperial Legions' top commander. Instead, fifteen legions, the most ever mustered for a single campaign, led by Warmaster Poppaea Sabina II - the former general of the Thirtieth Legion - were deployed to crush the neighbouring Warring Settlements. The campaign, against various forces that had far more time to establish themselves, became the Legions' first proper test and saw their numbers eventually bolstered to the current forty. It was in the Crusade that the Bloodwreathed, last of the Imperial Guards, were founded on the system of Cenotaph.

History: Following the Unification of the World under the First Terran Republic, the United Nation's final act was the formation of the "Earth Advanced Recording of Terran History" or "EARTH" to keep the formation of all doings from both the past, present, and the future to ensure that no knowledge was lost. They were well left alone in silence during the times of the First Terran Republic, spreading their assets to collect more and more information. It wasn't until the January Revolution and the beginning of the Civil War were they finally vocal in the fight.

They organized the relocation of refugees and quickly evacuated all their facilities, making sure to keep all information they had in their grasp. Copies upon copies were made to ensure that not even a single word was lost, everything was dependent on it. The organized evacuation made their way to the southern portions of the Former Terran Republic space, a large mix of civilian ships, research ships, merchants and war vessels in a large convoy. Growing larger in size as they continued, leaving behind the fires of war in search of peace.

They reached the planet "Unity" and declared it their home, they quickly organized a Democratic Government which upon realizing the failure of the former governments on earth was the information and knowledge of the Government. The state was quickly made transparent to the public and all information made free to be shared with all, to ensure that tyranny never rises again. They then expanded in forms of peace, through diplomacy or peacekeeping. A Federation of Unity and of Peace. Prosperity was what reign within, the new United Nations. Rising from ashes, to bring a peace much needed in a galaxy of war.

Testimony of the last surviving original human colonist

Humanity first left Sol Prime (Terra, or Earth by other names), those who were infirm, the old, the sick, those left behind in what most saw as the twilight days of humanity. Blessings were given, leaders of the world’s religions knowing they had no place on the Generation Arcs but praying to whatever God would listen to preserve these colonists. One year after departure from Terra their telescopes reported thermonuclear detonations over major cities, what humanity would know as the 13 Day War had begun. The remnants of humanity looked to their fleet, not knowing if any of their kind survived beyond their hulls. They carried on through their endless voyage, mining minerals from passing asteroids to feed their makeshift shipyards in the slow creation of new generation ships identical to the ones they were aboard. The need to repopulate drove the fleet to increase their numbers to nearly 150% of what they set out with, and even begin the process of arming their ships. Their flotilla would proudly state that it could strip mine an entire rouge world without slowing their ships down, though a large part of their efficiency was blowing chunks of material forward using their weapons systems, and collecting those minerals later.

As humans advanced over the centuries, as did their computers, their VI systems, and eventually their AI systems. The birth of AI didn’t cause the calamity that most would have expected, but such was the result of being treated almost human like. They were never enslaved, but treated as equal members of society with important tasks to do. Perhaps it came from being born in the void where they were entirely reliant on technology, or perhaps it came from the fact the AI shared the culture of putting the group before the self. Regardless these AI stood alongside their human fellows aboard the ships, mostly assisting in managing systems to insure optimal use of resources. Their leadership became expected, though it was checked by human Councils and Captains, and between the AI programs themselves a democracy was established to choose a leader.

The year was 2845 that she ships began landing upon the world that would be known as Suriso, however the first survey team on world found something… Something that should have been impossible, there had been a human settlement on this world. What should have been a hopeful moment for the fleet became a nightmare as they found the archives, archives that spoke not only of humanity escaping Terra, but of the old cycle of death, destruction, rebirth, war, death has come with them to the stars. They had fled in the greatest exodus in the history of all mankind, and yet forty generations later, things seemed so similar to the Second Cold War. It was in light of this horror that the decision was made that they would never fully establish world based colonies, instead all buildings must be fully capable starships able to flee if war came once more.

On a distant world unknown to humanity, in the year the primates would call 2685 the Escojian Empire was on the warpath. Their ships came crashing through the Rellian colony systems like a force of nature, ripping apart everything before them with a horrifying genocidal viggor. Their various megacompanies, syndicates and governments formed themselves into a new civilization known only as the Trader’s Emergency Coalition. They had no martial tradition, and yet had incredibly impressive technology, trusting to their technology to see them through the harsh times. It was only after the destruction of their main battle fleet that they knew resistance was impossible, embracing a polcy of Scorched Earth as they pulled back farther and farther from the front lines, destroying everything they couldn’t load aboard their ships. Their ships fled from Rel Prime carrying whatever they could, mobile shipyards pulled behind tugs, civilian luxury liners, cargo haulers filled with refugees to save as many as possible. The first and final First Chair of the TEC remained on Rel Prime using a series of controlled nuclear detonations to crack the planet when the Escojian appeared in orbit.

Their fleet was not like humanity’s fleet, it was swift thanks to the advanced FTL drives of the TEC. They reached across the galaxy in a matter of months rather than years, though by journey’s end many of the ships would never jump again. They found themselves in a minor junction of the Disputed Zone of Humanity. It was here, between the two fleets having fled their homeworlds that first contact was established, the warlike species of Humanity and their AI children offering protection in exchange for a general uplifting of technology. It was this initial compact that lead to the formation of the Hegemony, the establishment of the defensive lines and trade hubs both, the settlement of a half dozen worlds and the strip mining of dozens more. The ancient generation ships were mounted with new FTL drives, humanity’s weapons augmenting the refugee fleet of the TEC as they settled down upon one of the Goldilocks worlds they found.

Admiral of the Exodus Fleet


Many years before these events the UGSR was spreading the people’s revolution, by force of arms, and invading the systems of the Neko Emirates. Their warships would blot out the suns, and while the Neko Space Force sold their lives dearly for every ship the humans lost, they would replace it twofold. As the Soviets poured over their border defenses the Nekos began organizing a mass exodus from their worlds, though perhaps calling it organized would be a disservice. The so called ‘exodus fleet’ jumped away from their Home System as soon as the Soviets appeared, their FTL countdown automated so those in command could not hear the desperate cries for protection from the Soviets.

While not as bad as humanity’s Generation Ships, their FTL drives were old and slow. Top of the line ships fled long before them, and their rag tag fleet had to move at a comparative snail’s pace. The last warships of the Neko race guarded their fleet, a handful of modern ships but mostly old vintage units that matched their second rate civilian ships. The voyage was neither comfortable nor quick, hunger, power problems, poor quality air, and disgusting water became daily life for the refugees packed into the ship hulls. Children were born into the fleet, inheriting the jobs of their parents as they tried their best to keep their old wrecks running, even as they were harassed by the occasional UGSR patrol. The burning resentment of the Soviets was inflamed for their young when they would see the plasma flash past their windows or open their hulls to space.

The fleet passed beyond the UGSR’s space, entering the neutral zone between the galactic empires. The government the Exodus Fleet found in these parts came to them with open arms, offering them a place on one of the new ‘eden worlds’ of the Hegemony. Their ships set down upon this new world, a new generation from those who had left their homeworld, one that had never felt the rays of sun upon their skin. The Admiral of the Exodus Fleet was quick to sign for official membership with the Hegemony, to stand together with the others who would protect them from the UGSR. And someday, someday perhaps they would stand once more under their home sun once more.

Major Species: Ligeians account for approximately 80% of the population. Unaltered humans make up around 5% of the remaining population, and the rest are various unaltered aliens.

History: The Worm is a massive, rotting annelid the size of a mountain range, located on the garden world Ligeia. It is an incredibly powerful psychic, making it independent of the need for food or water, and granting it incredibly potent control of the minds and bodies of any creature that enters the Ligeia system. The Worm's physical body is immobile - It is in a permanent state of near-death, has no limbs, and is crushed by the gravity of its planet.

The Worm first encounted other sapient life when a First Republic colony ship entered the Ligeia system in 2352. The captain of the ship was the first to encounter the Worm's mind, as he started to hear its whispers as soon as they came within a hundred AU of Ligeia. The captain was curious about this strange psychic creature, and he allowed the Worm to coil around his mind in exchange for information.

The Worm claimed to have originally been nonexistent. As punishment for a crime, its nonexistent countrymen banished it into existence, and it fell to the surface of Ligeia after it manifested in reality. The Worm claimed that in a metaphysical "whale fall", its entrance into reality sent a wave through the morphic field of the entire universe, permitting life to exist in a place that should not have life. It claimed that life was a mistake, that to exist is to suffer, and that nonexistence is a mercy. It thus claimed that the most ethical goal of any sapient being is to engineer the end of all life.

The captain of the colony ship believed all of this, for the Worm had been influencing his emotions and memories throughout their psychic conversations, subtly reminding him of every way he had suffered. The captain allowed the Worm to use his mind as an anchoring point, and through him it coiled around the minds of all the colonists of the ship. The captain renamed himself Osedax, prophet of the Worm, and the colonists became the seed of what would become the Dominion.

The Worm used its powers over biology to reshape Osedax and his followers into new forms, so they could better serve their new purpose. Those blessed few who the Worm found most holy were rewarded - they were shaped into inanimate forms such as the hulls of ships, then given the gift of death. To this day, followers of the Worm travel to the Ligeia system to assume the form the Worm chooses for them. If they are burdened with continued existence, they may return again after thirty years of faithfully hastening the end of all life, at which point the Worm will allow them to drown themselves in Ligeia's oceans. The mutated humans and aliens touched by the Worm's power are known as "Ligeians" by most of the galaxy.

Osedax became the de facto dictator of the Worm's followers, as he was tasked with communing with it and interpreting its will. A few decades later, the Worm would offer Osedax the gift of death, but Osedax refused, and instead asked to be made immortal, so that he could spread the Worm's gospel for as long as possible. The Worm granted this request, and in honour of this sacrifice, Osedax was given the epithet "Parasite Bodhisattva".

Over the centuries, many other ships passed close enough to Ligeia to be influenced by the Worm. These crews of these ships were also brought into the ranks of the Dominion, and the stellar neighbourhood of the Ligeia system became something of an urban legend in the Republic due to all the ships that went missing there.

In the chaos of the end of the Republic, the Dominion finally revealed itself, with thousands of corpse-ships suddenly appearing over worlds in an expanding radius centred around Ligeia. These worlds were eventually converted to the philosophy of the Worm both through exposure to its psychic manipulation and purely mundane proselytization, and now a not-insignificant part of the galaxy is under the Dominion's thrall.

  • The Todestrieb Cannon: The signature weapon of the Dominion and a very strange device. Ligeians who have lost the Worm's favour are transformed into tortured, wretched creatures and left alive and in pain for as long as possible. The desire to die is extracted from these creatures' brains and refined on an industrial scale using psychic matrices. From there, the death-desire is implanted within neurocircuitry integrated into a corpse-ship. When the correct ontokinetic rituals are performed by the crew of the ship, the desire to die implanted within the neurocircuitry temporarily manifests in the physical world, in the form of a region of space where physics is altered such that complex thought is impossible. As a result, most computronium (brains, AI circuitry, etc.) explodes violently if it is within this space. Further rituals shape and move this space in order to use it as a weapon. Most frequently, the space is shaped into a cylindrical "lance" several meters wide and several hundred meters long, which is then launched at its target at approximately 98% of the speed of light.
  • Other than the Todestrieb Cannon, the Dominion uses conventional shields, warp drives powered by prayer, railguns that fire magically-hardened bone shells, and rituals that temporarily render parts of their ships hypothetical in order to reduce resource costs.

Hey, so I was just looking this over and thinking about throwing an app up, but I was interested in doing a sort of mercenary/smuggler/pirate faction rather than a nation. Is that possible?

If not, Ive got other ideas but I thought it would be interesting as they could act as a sort of wild card for all the other nations in the RP.
