Updated my perceptions to include Fletcher (who I lament not noticing in the initial draft) and Jalair.

It is interesting that the Carbineers will have a greater impetus to uphold the law, because I had the idea of the battalion evolving into a Gendarmerie unit.

Considering the amount of units that are seemingly not-so- integrated with the empire, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some infighting - maybe even a defection or a mutiny in - in the future!

I have completed my own list of contemplations, with Valentin taking a more pragmatic eye to the Captains in trying to unpick how he expects to deal with them on the battlefield, although he's certainly started connecting the dots regarding the political expediency of making friends.

The Musings of Captain Valentin Rosicrucio de Dagomor, Officer Commanding 1st Native Scouts
In regard to the Commanding Officers of the 22nd Regiment of Foot; for the Eyes of Commissioned Officers of the 1st Native Scouts ONLY - burn after committed to memory, not to be removed from the Office of Captain de Dagomor

Here, I describe in turn those of the regimental command I am myself familiar with, for the purposes of informing my staff as to my approach and understanding of my peers and superior officer. This is information I have compiled through no small effort of my own, in drawing on the military contacts I made in raising the battalion, and my officers would do well to treat it with a similar level of interest.

I begin with Colonel Horatio Fellus, Baron of Hevan, who commands line infantry known as the Acolytes and is our regiment's commanding officer. He is first and foremost a servitor of the Canon, and holds no particular interest to me besides what value is held in his commission. He strikes me as being primarily concerned with using his regiment as a captive audience for his battalion of hopeful clergymen.

Captain Ebenezer Paschalis, Baron of Escalis, commands the West Pfeiffer Imperial Carbineers. Our officers would do well to note he prefers to go by 'Eb'. His life is a tragic one, but we must take some perverse sense of appreciation that those tragedies have given us access to his considerable competence. Himself an experienced fieldman, with the scars and the drinking habits to show for it, it is surprising to most that his men show no particular love for him - perhaps this is a question that can be answered with the observation that he has relied on his personal connections to fill his roster of lieutenants.

Captain Virgil de Hohenfriedberg, who is from similar circles as I, commands the 1st Death's Head Hussars. We could not, however, be more different. Whereas I have come to Dagomor due to my virtues, he has been sent here for his vices. He an undisciplined boor in command of a reasonably organized and exceptionally drilled battalion - I, a reasonably organized and exceptionally disciplined boor. His battalion are as traditional a demesne as he is a noble; there are no surprises to me, although were I not permitted to wager on my own, I would put my entire savings and that of my men on the first of our lieutenants to be hung to be one of his, given that it was possible to both see and be appalled at the incessant self-aggrandization of he and his troops in Dagomor from my childhood home in the capital.

Captain Hugh Clay, the first commoner I mention. I am told he earned his commission from prizeshare, and married for love. He leads a battalion of natives from his homeland, the 2nd Battalion Wolves of Iron. A respectable man - I have no interest in involving him in the politics of the regiment, but only because I fear it would ruin him. He has a reputation for understanding the military in a practical sense - Eb may be a warrior, but Hugh Clay is the perfect field officer. A man who will achieve anything you want, without making you take responsibility for the pathway there, and who'll do it longer than the Empire will. I find it difficult to imagine him effectively representing his troops to officers he is neither equipped nor inclined to converse with. However, it will not be necessary - his soldiers are so immaculately behaved as to represent themselves, and his frankly draconian conduct has not as of yet given his men pause to reconsider their representation.

Captain Cibor Marczynski, commanding the the Cybulskan 'Blackfeet' volunteers. The battalion shows striking similarities with our own, using a folk tune as an anthem, and utilizing the hatchet as a melee sidearm - a decision I approve of, having far more general purpose than the bayonet and far better suited to the more extended, small-unit tactics both of our battalions are equipped for. Cibor seems uninterested in the Empire at large, and in everything from our nobility to our way of war, and his battalion's most significant distinction from ours is that his source of recruitment has given way to a significantly less motivated force than ours, given that they hail from his homeland rather than Dagomor. An excellent friend to make, as it is likely we shall be taking on much the same responsibilities and he has no overtly contrasting qualities to myself - with the exception that I believe my battalion is better suited to extended operations, if with a lesser eye towards martial accomplishment.

Captain Alastair Starachan is the Laird of Crask and commander of its Highlanders battalion. They are a penal battalion, a cruel fate only slightly declawed by the fact that they have been deployed so far from the frontlines. More uncharacteristically still, they show a surprising amount of discipline, all things considered, and are in fact content with their lives here. I have compiled multiple stories of his men winning drunken brawls outnumbered - one goes as far as to suggest that the publican ran to get another Highlander, believing that only a Highlander could defeat a Highlander hand-to-hand. This is excellent, as even our battalion could match them as a firing line. Alastair is a picture-perfect officer from the last century - he leads his men from the front, charging every-which-way in the hopes of reaching a distance where they can hit something. I am confident that they will all die stoically together - whether it is for, or against the Empire, I do not wish to provide conjecture.

Based on my documents, this is where I would list myself - I leave it as an exercise to the reader to fill in the comments, but for completion's sake, I say: I am Captain Valentin de Dangomor, of noble blood, and commander of the 1st Native Scouts Battalion, who have both the ability and the herewithal to get from any battlefield in the province to any regrouping, and precious little to make them useful at either end, neither of these things causing me any more pride or consternation than could issue from my expectation that they do so with balanced accountbooks at the end of the year.

Captain Carlington of Carlington, a man who says his own name twice, and then attached it to his battalion of Imperial Cuirassiers. My opinions on taking pride in family name are well known, and so I cannot even countenance taking it twice. Yet another nobleman in de Hohenfriedberg's ilk, but far more competent at the game of politics - he is here by choice, having come here to seek glory. The irony is clear, I know, but I hold that I came to Dangomor first, and then chose to find glory. An exceptionally useful ally for exactly the same reasons that I find him potentially the most detestable of my companions, save the Colonel, who I expect to see lead us to an early grave. His utter disinterest in producing a working military formation is obvious in his troops, who are the best armed thugs this side of the Palace itself. His social connections are useful, but I fear he is controlled by them more than he controls them - the same can be said of his Cuirassiers.

Captain Kasch Fletcher, of the 44th Farmers. He is quite comfortable in who he is, and who he is is a soldier. One gets the distinct idea that the ones he fights for are alongside him, rather than behind or in front. His approach to leadership is much the same, and his men are fond of him for the same reason. They are natives of the Western Reaches, and have built together no small level of comraderie on the basis of their joint distaste for the Empire's treatments of them. They have found solace in both bottle and billet, and are certainly disillusioned enough to be practical allies in case of more dangerous overreaches of the Canon's power - it is already known that Fletcher does not show an appreciation for theology that is altogether commensurate with our Colonel's. I am told they continue to farm; a useful skill to learn for those younger members of our battalion who have accustomed themselves to our service on solely the basis of my own teachings of military logistics. It may do him good to fall in with the right sort of company, having no noble blood of his own, but it may do just as much bad for him to be seen as too close to a man of my particular ill-repute. He reminds me somewhat of Hugh Clay, and their battalions are reasonably complementary.

Captain Altan Jalair brings his Jezzails to bear, a curious battalion indeed. They are armed, in part, with bowmen, and are potentially the battalion with the most complex standing orders I know of - at the very least, the most specialized companies. They show no particular collective speciality, though their bowmen seem rather more accurate than the average musketeer, as do their long-barrelled rifles. Altan is similar in capability to me, if not in character or upbringing. Where I learned my craft in the Corps, he learned it in the marketplace, and where my accounts are balanced by spendthriftiness and mutual social arrangement, he is a bargainer in the mercantile sense. Where we differ is that he is a man of many vices, and having done business with some of his partners in preparing to billet our battalion, I find that some of his stories do not quite correctly fit together - I have come to doubt everything I hear of him, and whilst the most egregious is his rich retelling of an admittedly impressive Altaian martial history, there is little I am willing to take at face value with him. Nevertheless, money is its own truth, and he makes enough of it to feed his men before his demons, which puts him considerably ahead some of the drunkards and zealots who hold commissions in this battalion.

Captain App
Character Name: Klaus Adler
Age: 28
Appearance:
Image

Image

Strengths: Klaus is a veteran soldier and quick thinker, being able to quickly adapt to situations. He is often charismatic, being able to inspire a sense of loyalty to his troops (furthermore is not afraid to go in dirty with the rest of his troops when it comes to combat). He is skilled in both marksmanship and melee weapons and has a keen mind on tactics. He is also very sociable and friendly, willing to work with others easily, and does not really have any biased views when it comes to things like race and social standing.
Weaknesses: Sometimes, Klaus has an issue with following orders, sometimes thinking that his decision is better then those on top, and is not afraid to exploit sudden opportunities, even if it means breaking formation. He also despises those that think simply because of their social standing that they're automatically superior to everyone else both in terms of mind and skill (depends on whether they can actually back their claim), which automatically makes him have high tension with many different aristocrats (though this is strictly confined to those arrogant sorts, he doesn't hate those who are, for example, simply naive)
Personality: Klaus is a sociable person, rarely getting angry and always willing to crack a joke even in the worst of situations. He is often very cordial with other people and is always willing to help in different situations. Though at the same time, Adler will not tolerate things like race-hate and such from other people and is able to be strict when needed. Klaus is also not really religious, only going to such services for appearance's sake, preferring not to have his fate in the hands of some apparently almighty omnipotent beings. Though despite this Adler still learns about such religious texts, as Klaus also has a very curious streak, often wanting to learn anything and everything about everything around him.
Biography: Klaus Adler was born into the Adler Noble Family, a wealthy family with a high standing in Dallic society. The Adler family had a long proud history of militants who had both fought for and against the Empire, so naturally, Klaus was to be next in line for this great legacy. During his early years, Klaus had a profound interest in military tactics and history, and his hobbies included marksmanship, hunting, and fencing. Klaus began his military education at the age of 17, along with his two childhood best friends, Erich Landa, of House Landa (another rich and militant family which has had a strong alliance with the Adlers since the days of the Early Empire), and Drostan Campbell of the Minor House of Campbell (initially a high society family in a nation called Kraddle, it was among the first nations that were invaded and incorporated into the Empire many years ago. The family eventually once again rose to minor prominence as a vassal of House Adler, serving the House loyaly) at Reichstadt Royal Military Officer Academy, one of the most renowned across the Empire. All 3 completed their training 3 years later with flying colours and gained the ranks of 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation.

Klaus and Co. would at first serve in a militia battalion, where they would see action against several local rebellions and raids on the border and frontier of the Empire. After two years of service in the militia, Klaus and Co. would be transferred to a proper line infantry battalion, where they would see service in more official campaigns, against both neighbours and more large-scale bandit groups and rebellions. During one event, Klaus and Co. would visit a Military Academy as visitors from the frontlines and would come upon a young woman who was an officer cadet in the Academy. She came from a rather rural background, her father having formally been a soldier of the Empire which is what inspired her to join up. Her lack of aristocratic blood, along with her gender, meant that she was singled out for bullying by other fellow cadets. However, the young woman was also at the top of her class, having the highest scores and potential in various classes: from tests to physical training and exercises. This only increased her being bullied, but her scores and her will to thrive despite these bullyings made Klaus see a lot of potential. So during his time in the Academy, Klaus would constantly support the young woman, giving her advice and tips, the two quickly forming a tight bond and friendship (the young woman would also form bonds with both Erich and Drostan). When Klaus and Co. eventually left once again back to their battalion, the young woman would never forget them. Which was why about a year later, one Elisa Rockwood would graduate from the Academy at the top of her class with the rank of Lieutenant and, after some scouraging, would arrive in Klaus's Battalion and quickly joined their "inner circle".

Klaus would serve in the Line Infantry Battalion for 3 years before deciding to transfer to the Light Infantry at age 25. You see, Klaus's view on warfare changed when their formation had been ambushed in thick woods by bandits during a march. Klaus, being the observant type, quickly found that while the line infantry had been in total disarray from the attack, clearly unused to combat in this fashion, the Light Infantry and Native Auxiliaries quickly adapted to the situation, and most effectively beat back the bandits. After the event, Klaus would start studying the tactics and traits of such units, getting information and advice from the various light infantry and auxiliary commanders, where he would come to respect the culture of the various native auxiliaries, as well as the abilities of the light infantry and skirmishers, of which many Line Infantrymen thought as either inferior or unnecessary.

Successfully being retrained and sent to the light infantry, Klaus and Co. would continue their military service, Klaus achieving the rank of First Lieutenant. Eventually, Klaus's Battalion would be transferred to fight in the War in Acc, where he and his friends would fight admirably in for the next few years, gaining much needed experience in various areas of warfare. There Klaus gained a keen mind on strategy, performing many ambushes and scouting missions. By the end of the war in Acc, Klaus would be transferred to the Province of Dangomor after pissing off his superior during a battle. When assigned, Klaus and Co. would organise, form and train their own Battalion of Light Infantry which they would named Erika's Jägers, named after a legendary sharpshooter who was said to be one of (if not the) the best marksman (or in this case, woman) in the Empire's Military History. Now Klaus and his Battalion March to the supposedly backwater area, and see where the wind sends them off to.

Description: Made up of frontiersmen and hunters across the Empire, these soldiers are often made up of marksman as well as those who have served in local militias on the border and the more unstable regions of the Empire, all of them coming from the background of commoners. Many of them are crack shots, having hunted in the countryside for most of their lives, and many also have had experienced fighting against native revolts, earning them valuable combat experience. Though they know how to follow orders at a relatively competent rate, they lack high discipline. Erika's Jägers is also a mixed battalion, being made up of both men and women, Klaus only caring about the skill the soldiers have in marksmanship.

They should reflect more about Rupert Carlington than any other characters, but maybe this will help. If I went overboard with my character's enhanced knowledge, specifically concerned about the knowledge over the identity of Valentin Rosicrucio de Dangomor, do notify me! And it will be updated once more characters and battalions are accepted. If I missed anyone, do tell.

Captain Rupert Carlington's opinions, thoughts, and impressions on the fellow officers he hears he'll serve with once his battalion on horseback reach Halgomar:

-Colonel Horatio Fellus: "I hope my Senior officer won't be a dull preacher! Sure, I can appreciate a man with conviction but it would be awful spending time with a holy man looking down on me for my need to have a little fun when off duty. Of course, my Father had heard only the kindest opinions of the Baron Hevan, so I do expect him to be accommodating for the sake of esprit de corps between men of standing like us. He should be impressed by the cuirassier battalion I have mustered, and I will make sure to provide him with my own insight in military matters knowing this line of work is only one of his pursuits, unlike me, solely dedicated to the art of war."

-Captain Ebenezer Paschalis: "Of course I've heard of Eb! The man must love war, for Captain Paschalis wages it with prowess unmatched by few. Maybe I can convince him to share some stories of the wars in our colonies, should I get the chance. The poor man lost his wife recently, I hear, which surely obligates me to treat him like family, knowing that my Father would expect me to do so. His Son is traveling in company with his Father, so I should offer the Captain to have him spend some time in my camp and help distract him from any lingering grief. Eb's cavalry should be a good force to train together with, and we could exchange our knowledge for the betterment of the regiment as a whole."

-Captain Virgil Montbeliard de Hohenfriedberg: "I hear Hohenfriedberg's Hussars are dashingly handsome in their black uniforms and will be delighted by the sight of the forces that served in our colonies with such success! Hopefully, my fellow Captain will approve of my battalion as well. I'm excited to share camp with someone known for enjoying life's pleasures much like myself and hope he'll be interested in sharing one of the bottles of fine summer wine I have brought with me some evening. I just hope he does not excel too much and gain the favor of Colonel Fellus, outshining the battalion I have worked so hard to raise and train."

-Captain Hugh Lawson Clay: "I hadn't heard of him before. What I know of him now doesn't make him seem all that pleasant. He drills his subordinates like they were dogs and possesses little charisma. I guess that could be expected by an infantry commander from the edges of the Empire. Maybe I should try showing him some fun, to light up a little life in him and spare his troops? I had not heard of his noble name, and should not bother my Father with a letter half-way across the Empire asking about it, so I shall assume that he is a man of the common people, and avoid the subject of his background. Knowing he's married makes me wonder if he really can be too much of a bore or if his taste in ladies is less picky than my own.

-Captain Marczynski: "From our colonies, I hear, and a local Captain at that. As far as I know, his 'Blackfeet' battalion is not supposed to look like much else than a rabble gathering, which should make them mightily dazzled by my Cuirassiers riding into Halgomar! I guess coming from Overseas does that to professional soldiers. I wouldn't expect a commander of woodcutters to have much to teach me, but I am eager to see what they can provide to this Regiment. He's not supposed to be much of a nice fellow either, but I wouldn't let that bother me. I guess some just can't put up with the dealings of war without losing their high spirits."

-Captain Strachan: "I hope this rebel will forgive me for not thinking highly of him. My older brother Stephen fought against the Sutherland rebels and had nothing good to say about that country when he returned victoriously. I am intrigued how this prisoner battalion of the Empire can be put to use, however, knowing that they are fierce warriors with a taste for close combat nonetheless. Should I get the chance, considering we are in the same military unit from now on, I shall make his acquaintance in kinship and place my hopes in him being unaware of my dear brother's participation in putting down his people's revolt. After all, we all dutifully serve the Empire now."

-Captain Rosicrucio de Dangomor: "Captain Rosicrucio de Dangomor bears not his family name anymore, strangely enough, since it is one which I have always been familiar with. My Father notified me about his true identity immediately and wrote to me that the Captain was a young man with a mind beyond his years, whose free-thinking spirit had alarmed many officials in the capital, possibly leading to his exile. If my Father's observations are true, I should keep a watchful eye on him. I've heard he's raised his host from Dangomor natives, and that they aren't much of a fighting force at all, merely a pack of riffraff he's decided to surround himself with. I shall make him aware of what he's missing out on by parading my cavalry in an orderly fashion once we make camp."

-Captain Fletcher: "From some far away land I had never heard of before I was told of it. I won't let that decide my judgment though, I trust his military experience makes him a valid choice for Captain. From what I'm told, he is a soldier's soldier who makes friends among his men, and that is something I cannot appreciate enough. His battalion will probably look like the man's record implies, a band of common folk from the country, many of whom have fought wars in our colonies, and who know their place beneath a noble. I hope I shall not find that I seem distant from him, for I can act pleasantly to people of lower standing as well as to my friends. We'll see if they prove themselves worth much in a fight against other foes than natives afar, should we get the chance."

-Captain Jalair: "A strange-looking man from a strange land of savage warrior-people, they say. The Captain and his people were known to be the best of horse riders in the world and had conquered vast lands ages ago. His battalion was said to be as strange as stories told, with soldiers wearing colorful clothes and outdated weapons aside from muskets. I hope I will be able to converse and ride with the Captain at some point, to hear stories of his assuredly interesting past. I hope these untamed warriors will prove an asset to our regiment and that I will have something to write about them to my Father and Brothers."

Very good, Niev. One thing of note; Hondo Paschalis is but nine or ten, born a year or two after Eb returned from his service in Arris. Despite this, Eb is intent on exposing his son to military service.

I must have read the age of Sussana and put that together with Raymond! Makes sense, considering she is helping taking care of him. I'll revise my contemplations quickly.

Brilliant, all of these, thank you for it. Not going to post mine, though, since (in my head, anyway) my character's fairly new to this whole place and doesn't actually know anybody - the reverse, of course, isn't necessarily true, as the news of a "Semi-savage" battalion from a far corner of the empire coming to Dangomor would no doubt be the talk of the town. Any introductions and insights would probably come from our first meeting, the aforementioned dinner with the Colonel. I'll definitely dedicate a post to highlight my insights about each other battalion once we get the RP going, though!

I'm debating on whether or not to make one of these. They're cool, but Marczynski is coming from a colony so I would guess he'd be totally unfamiliar with all except Eb Paschalis and perhaps Horatio Fellus.

I like it, working on mine now. Though, one thing; Fletcher was born in a seperate country, not an Imperial Province.

It seems all together fitting an proper that I record the thoughts that have fallen upon me about my fellow officers whom I am to spend quite a deal of time with in the coming days and months of our station in this Backwater post. I cannot say that many of the names on this list are familar to a man who is often shunned from the ring of higher birthed commanders, being a foreign commoner, though I have made it a point to gather what information I can on these men and their units, as to give me some semblence of understanding upon our future interactions and meetings. And to as not let myself or men fall into an unfavorable situtation upon the actions of another, should it come to such a point.

Thus as follows are reflections upon the small gleeming piece of information I have been able to scavange among my officers and other contacts about such men;
~Colonel Horatio Fellus~ "As I would expect from an Officer of Nobility and Schooling, he is quite the social and reglious man, his force seemingly made up likeminded indivisuals. More or less the same men I have dealt with many a time on previous station in the inner lands of the Empire, and I do not see our time together going much different than it has previously. Though I do fear he may not take kindly to my, shall we say, ideals on life and mind."

~Captain Ebenezer Paschalis~ "Ah, Eb, the first man upon the listing of fellow Officers I have heard of, though I have not had the pleasure of a discord with him at any point in either of our careers. I know him as a seasoned officer who can be trusted in dire situtations from the reports I have read of his action in Acc. I dare say I would enjoy sharing a bottle of Brandy between us and perhaps discusse tactics or our time in Acc, though my tour was but a brief one, if he would be so inclined to do so, despite the differences in our schools of battle and mind. I also wish to engage in drills with his men, as I feel both ours could benefit from such interactions, despite our positions upon the field of battle."

~Captain Virgil Jean Louis Philippe Montbeliard de Hohenfriedberg~ "Captain Virgil, the Son of a Duke. I can not say I know much about trhe man himself aside from the occassional leaf upon the grape vine, as I shall put it here. From what I have been able to piece together he is quite speak of the ladies in whatever station he is occupied and has no doubt had his fair share of adventurers both in the sheets of the bed and deep in the bushes of the wild, and such actions have earned him both fame and dispostion from those around him. As for my opinion on such a matter, I'll leave to the meeting of the man, rather than idle gossip of those in small towns and pubs. That being said, I will continue to hold my reservations about a young blood from a noble family. Though, I will say I look very much joyfully towards the reunion with the 'Riders' who I had the pleasure of briefly meeting upon my time in Acc. I do worry, however, how such actions will reflect upon him in his meetings and time with the Colonel."

~Captain Clay~ "Another Career officer like Eb, though I know little of this man aside from the fact that he too started as a simple footman like myself, and is known wide for his tendencies as a brutally fighter and strict commander of his men. I had doubt's that such a group of soldiers could exist more ridged in their chasity of life's pleasures than that of our appointed Colonel, but those men within the 'Iron Wolfes' as they are called, see to be a close runner up for such a dreadful prize. He appears to be seasoned enough, but his unit seems fairly green, not that I doubt a 'will-do' and ridged man such as himself will fit in quite well with the ideals of our Commander. For better or worse."

~Captain Marczynski~ "A force of murders, debters, and other ruthless convicts of a myriad type; all lead by a ruthless enough to keep them from pillaging the nearest town and making away with the goods, is about the best way I can describe the 'Blackfeet' upon pondering the matter. Not that I hold any ill will towards them or their commander. Known for their superb use of Rifles, which I hope to have the pleasure of seeing in action, and seasoned frontiersman, like may of my own men, they seem altogether a comptent force lead by a strong willed and equally comptent Captain, who I can safely say I enjoy the thought of having such men in the company of my own, and would not be opposed to forming tighter inner unit bonds in the time we spend together in this dismal place."

~Captain Strachan~ "I've heard much about this man and his Battalion and look forward to our time in his company. I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting him, but I am told he is a generally more constrained version of his fellow countryman and easier to enter a conversation with, himself being known as quite a charismatic commander, both to his own men and others, including his peers, despite some issues with his lineage. I enjoy the idea of being in the company of another man so devoted to his men in a manner such as my own. Though, I will say I hold reservations for his lack of formal or even informal understanding of military tactics, given their position of men of the line. Alas, I cannot help but feel such a man will be a great assest to our Regiment in a myriad of ways."

~Captain Rosicrucio de Dangomor~ "An interesting man, and quite a different turn from many of the other 'high-standing' men among our Regiment. He appears to be more of an aloof, or rather free-spirited to put it better, of a man carring little for rank or position and more content with living out his life upon his own thoughts, though not quite in the same way as our own Captian Virigil in the self-fufilling type of pleasuring. Though, I must say, that results of such a life style upon his soldiers, nevermind their foundations of simple volunteers fills me with worry as to their preformance in combat should the time come. His ambitious also sets me off in an odd way, and I fear for the livelyhood of his men when lead starts to fly, and I feel as though it would be best to distance myself from connection with him; our ideologies similar, but methologies and sources quite different indeed."

~Captain Rubert~ "If you were to search upon the land for a man as different as a potato is to an apple, in comparison to myself both in character and position, Captain Rubert would fit the bill so well you would not be to embarressed to find yourself mistaken that he had wrote it himself. Raised by holden hands and silver spoons, he seems to me little more than a young boy who wishes to form a battalion as if it were a club of boys walking around town claiming to be Imperial Regulars. The shine of their horses hoves seem to be but a cover for the inexperience of combat of both their commader and troops alike. He is dangerously light with his men and seems better suited to raising horses than to leading men. I truly worry that such a man will become a liability in combat."

~Captain Fletcher~ "I suppose it is only fitting that I would include myself in such a report upon the thoughts of officers within the Regiment seeing as I am one, adbeit unwillingly to a degree. I am Captain Fletcher, 'Lesnik' or 'Fletch' to those of my fellow officers or men in private quarters. I am a native of a Northern land, Aswen, a country about a fith the size of the Empire, domains withheld, and have spent the last sixteen years of my life in the shoes of a soldier, nearly half transfering from one of the Empire's backwater holes to the next in some vain attempt of my enemies to discredit me, but thus far they have been met with little success."

~Captain Diop~ "Thus far the first female Captain among us, and while rare is not unheard of, espically for a post such as this one. The so called 'chicken woman' as various sources have identified her as appears to be a relatively well rounded Commander. Nothing particular about her seems to call out to me in any respect, not to insinuate that such is a bad quality among a Commander, as she seems at least semi competent, if a bit stubborn, but with a calm resolve that is greatly appreiacted by all in the heat of combat. Though I will say her units appears to be one of strict discipline, but on a lighter scale than perhaps Captain Clay, nonetheless has left her Artillery Battalion as a sharp instrument within the Regiment that I see as becoming quite useful in our future operations within the Province."

~Captain Jalair~ "As opposed to Captain Diop who could easily be forgetten upon a few rotations, Captain Jalair is not a name nor man who will easily leave my memory. I am told they are a group of warrior from some archaic land who at one point had been the land of great conquers and horseman, the latter quality only remaining at this point in history. First I must speak about their Captain, who while most would assume would fall into a similar trapping as that of the Highlander Lieutenants, he is instead a very analitical man, who I have heard great things about in his respect to logistic operations; a welcome skill within any Regiment, as I do not see myself nor men relying on the Colonel for such operations more than are needed. He is certainly a man I would enjoy spending an evening with trading stories of times long past, whether they be our own or that of our forefathers. As for a unit, they appear to be even more of odd mix than that of the Highlanders. Perhaps more rounded in their abilities as a unit that the headstrong beserkers of the Highlander Battalion, the men under Captain Jalair appear off setting in thier tradition of using bows among other less fashionable weapons in direct combat as they attempt to fill a role both similar to Line and Light Infantry. Seeing this unit in combat is certainly something I must make sure of while assigned to this post."

As for our battalions' base of operations, are we clustered within some cramped fort, or are we just a portion of a well-defined military district within the city?

The inner city is walled, but it holds no military district. The soldiers are housed in barracks at the southern outskirts of the city, with a parade ground and some open fields for drilling. About a mile out from the docks in the inner city where the soldiers are arriving.

Your opening post said we havs to find our own room and board. Does that mean we have to fight for space in the barracks, or will there be enough room for three or so thousand soldiers?

Well, the officers might have to haggle for which room they want at the regimental HQ, but there will be enough barracks for the soldiers. When I said 'go find a room', it was more that the officers got to pick an office and a bedroom for themselves. I do not expect the captains to sleep among the men, no sir!

For the season, I would say it is somewhere around early March. So, there will be plenty of time to plant some crops in the future! The Ides of March are a good day for planting potatoes, some random garden site told me.

The roster has been updated. Eagle-eyed viewers might spot that there is no 8th battalion. 8 is an unlucky number in the Canon.

About to make my first post but I have a quick question

Would we arrive by boat or is Dangomor connected via land to the heartlands?

Dangomor is technically connected by a long road, but it is far more expedient to arrive by ship. As such, all battalions have arrived by ships in the harbour of Halgomar.

Well, I now know what Fletcher the 44th is doing in the morning, well after what I assume will be a small parade. I was also wondering how deployments and patrols and such would work. I assume we'll be visiting the various towns and settlements around the province, but I'm more interested in the town time, as I would assume we would also have time to train and drill our soldiers as well?

That seems like something that's up to us. We're the Captains, we decide what to do with our troops in the absence of orders from the Colonel or higher ups.

Since there is no active enemy in the field, and the colonel isn't much for constant combat readiness, there will only be pickets around the military encampment. The cities can be handled by the constables and the town militias, although I was planning on having parades in the four big coastal cities. While in Halgomar, every night another battalion will have the honours of defending the encampment. Everything will be inactive at the start, and things will slowly start to heat up.

Also, don't forget, every captain has been invited for the dinner with the governor!

Pretty much. If troops want to sit on their asses all day and play cards, that is fine. If captains want to train their men, that is fine too. If units want to leave the encampment they will have to ask permission from the colonel, but apart from that...

Here's my captain's musings on the other officers. Gotta say I like how you guys nailed my officer's demeanor in your captain's contemplation although I'm enjoying them overall.

I have felt the necessity to put down my thoughts on the officers I will be working with in this deployment. While I still find it to be an injustice for me to be stationed in a backwater like this despite my many contributions during war and campaigns abroad but I can see the need to be on good terms with my fellow captains. For now I will write my initial thoughts on them for future reference once I come to know the better and see if my opinions have changed. Doubtless, there must have been much intelligence gathering and counter-intelligence gathering as I have done to them naturally they shall have also collected information from me from the looser lipped soldiers in my care.

Colonel Horatio Fellus - my superior officer during the time I will be spending in this province. He appears to be a pious and well mannered man. Easy to get along with but not perhaps the most responsible individual. His father is also an esteemed war hero. Knowing this I hope he can live up to the name as I know all too well from previous superior officers I've served that the whims of a high ranked officer can lead to the needless death of an entire regiment.

Virgil J.L.P.M. de Hohenfriedberg - From what I gathered I can already tell that I will despise this man on a personal level. A perfidious hedonist that's the bane of good men wherever he lurks. Fortunately, I can respect his ability as a soldier as I have heard his famed Death's Head Hussars are quite the formidable cavaliers but his discipline leaves something to be desired.

Ebenezer Paschalis - A quite respectable man and of the war in Acc. He also has quite a lot of experience in colonial warfare so his skills will be invaluable in this half-tamed land. I've heard his wife has also died during child birth for which he has my condolences. His heavily scarred appearance, however, shows a man that will take an immense amount of pain. I look forward to serving with him.

Cibor Marczynski - A man from one the empire's many colonies. I couldn't gather much from him but I fear he may be a liability in the lines of battle as his experience draws from skirmishing. Although if war ever reaches the forested hills this may be useful. His battalion could very well be the reapers of the field if used wisely.

Alastair Strachan - Essentially a foolish barbarian that thinks he is of use in warfare. He comes from a land that short sightedly decided to rebel against the empire of which I can commend the bravery of at least. I am dumbfounded that he finds it appropriate to arm his battalion with mostly melee weapons. I fear he will be nothing but target practice if there is any serious conflict in this land. On another note, his battalion seems to be a penal force. I dread their behavior in the time to come.

Valentin Rosicrucio de Dangomor - I found him to be quite complicated. I commend his action of taking the province's name for himself but his free spirited nature leaves a lot to be desired. He commands a force of natives which I find will be useful. If seeing that fellow kinsmen are serving the empire could make the natives of this land more open to its rule. Alternatively, they could see them as traitors. I guess only time will tell.

James A.R. Carlington - A bog standard noble that think's he qualified to lead in war due to his blood alone. I've gathered disturbing information that he has no experience at all with the subtler and more pressing matters such as logistics and rumors of repeated insubordination. While cuirassiers are usually the butchers of the battlefield I find it obvious that this man is the weakest link in the regiment.

Kasch "Leśnik" Fletcher - I find much in common with this enigmatic officer. A respectable soldier that respects his men and will bring results. As he is a foreigner I could not find much but with the little information I could did impress me. His light infantrymen are also commendable. They come from hard workers of the labor class and they have a quite odd habit growing fruits and vegetables, which I find to be reason they are Fletcher's Farmers. In fact, I think I may adopt this practice but it will take work.

Altan Jalair - This is a man I wouldn't mind serving with. I found that his greatest strength of always providing for his men to be something to be looked up to. Too many higher up think a battle ready force should be nothing but damn near paupers. He come's from a land of steppes and horse nomads which is especially fascinating. Unfortunately, he seems to fall into the trappings of that highlander fellow that thinks methods of war centuries out of date have a place in wars of smoke and steel.

Klaus Adler - A skilled officer around my age that is not afraid to share in the bloodletting of battle with his troops. His personality seems quite easy going which would be similar to the Colonel. I respect how well the marksmanship of his Jägers are. Much like Marczynski, his battalion has great potential in its use.

Alright, just didn't want to over step your plans. I also plan on having Fletcher show up slightly late for the dinner, so he'll be filling in wherever. I'm, also transiting into a summer home, so mu post may be delay a day or two.

Of course, its the 44th. Who else's wagon would break down? Though, I kid you not, I was planning on having one of the 44th's wagons break down during part of my introduction. I even had a quip lined up about such an event, and already mapped it out in my head. This certainly makes it more interesting though, and some more material to work with.
