I would just like to make a formal request, for no other reason than because I love music with all my heart, that we officially make one of (or all of) these our theme song for the RP.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzkKvrHm7jY (Burn the Stars - Massive Vibes)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03Mum5dP3SY (Conquest of Spaces - Woodkid)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXgBWFDer6o (A Light So Dim - The Black Heart Procession)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0aoh363PI4 (Friction - Imagine Dragons)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJ8uspgf7vs (Birth - 30 Seconds To Mars)

Or, alternativly, since we are going for an occupational/brushfire war in this RP, we could go with something a little more protest song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5al0HmR4to (A Hard Rains a'Gonna Fall - Bob Dylan) (Personally, I like this one because to me it makes it seem like its our character returning home, and trying to explain the things they saw in war)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A50lVLtSQik (The Universal Soldier - Donovan) (I think this is another good one, since it highlights the chaos of war and its psychological impact, as well as the international and multi cultural makeup of the UN Military. Plus, Its got some of the same old Vietnam War protest vibes, which I get a strong vibe of from this RP.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4irXQhgMqg (Paint it Black - The Rolling Stones)

And just to spice it up a little, heres some more miscellaneous ones.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cOhNdlKwoc (Teenage Dirtbag - Scala cover, orignially by Wheetus) (I first heard this song in a warlike setting while watching Generation Kill, which is an excellent mini series that not enough people have seen. Anyways, I think its good because it highlights the fact that we are playing as a group of predominantly young people, who are little more than teenage dirtbags.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9IfHDi-2EA (The Man Comes Around - Johnny Cash.) (Apocalyptic Imagery is always good for war,
especially when its a vastly superior force fighting guerrillas. At least it is in my opinion.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqWUgKVKbOQ (Come Join The Murder - The White Buffalo) (Come join the Murder, fellow soldiers.
We'll all fly with black.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSkb0kDacjs (Iron - Woodkid)

Thats all we got.

Do with this what you will.

Looks fine to me; seems as if you thought of everything.

Hey, this is great stuff. I'm always partial to the classic rock stuff, but I can put up a poll later today.

So, with the possibility of space Vietnam, would it be possible for a soldier to be equipped with a flamethrower (or something akin to one)? Only good rebel is a dead rebel, and there's no better way to get them that way than a little accelerant no?

If not, leaning more towards a support character, equipped with the SAW and a ton of extra ammo, but really up for anything, concept sounds pretty neato!

I'll go ahead and say yes to that given that the anti-tank launcher is of limited utility against an enemy that doesn't field much more than light armor. So I don't want you roped into using a weapon that isn't particularly useful.

But that said, it would be appreciated if the flamethrower or what have you had relatively limited ammo, since it is a very powerful weapon.

How about instead of limited ammo, the weapon itself is exceptionally bulky/heavy, meaning the operator can only be expected to carry it as his single weapon? Or, drastically shorten the operation firing range? A Vietnam-era flamethrower had an effective range of around 65.5ft (20m), could either keep that range or half it if necessary. Fine with any of the presented options tbh

Excessive bulkiness and limited range should be fine I suppose; with advances in technology I guess the same space could hold a lot more juice.

Name: Wolfgang Hartmann
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Rank: PFC
Appearance:
Image

Ethnicity: Caucasian, German ancestry
Origin: Tachyon Station (A massive orbiting R&D facility which houses a population of over 130,000 individuals). Ganymede, Third moon of Jupiter, Sol system
Specialization: Rifleman (Close Support Weapons Specialist)
Personality: Wolfgang is generally pleasant to be around, but prefers to keep to himself. He despises the rebels, specifically those of Clan Stepheson, due to their hand in the death of two older brothers in the battle of Moultrie.

Equipment:
- Multi-Threat Combat Armor (Modified extensively around the hands, forearms, and chest to mitigate potential burns. Helmet/faceplate can also be polarized somewhat to protect the eyes of the user)
- Combat Harness (Molds onto the back of the MTCA, can effectively and safely carry 1 Fixed fuel tank, as well as 4 "magazine"-style tanks)
-(2) Foam canisters (Throw-able - Used to quickly extinguish fires on almost any substance)
-(1) Standard Combat Knife
-(1) Repair/Cleaning kit
-(2) Weeks worth of Rations
-(1) Gleeson 10mm Semi-Auto (2 spare magazines)
-(1) M7057/D Flamethrower (Weight unloaded or using back mounted fuel tank: 60lbs. Weight loaded with "magazine" fuel tank: 70lbs. Effective range 45-50 ft, maximum range 75ft. Flames become drastically ineffective past the effective range, with targets practically unaffected past 75ft).

Interests and Fears: Wolfgang is fascinated with military history and tactics, and would like to continue his degree after the war is over. His greatest fear is bringing shame upon his family name, specifically his father: Vice Admiral Richard Hartmann.

Biography:
Wolfgang Hartmann was born on August 8, 2411 on Tachyon Station, a massive space station which orbited Ganymede, the third moon of Jupiter. Born into a very old military family, Wolfgang was instilled with a rigid sense of patriotic duty at a young age. Coupled with a typical sense of sibling rivalry that arises from being the youngest of three siblings, Wolfgang always strives to be the best at whatever he sets his mind to, albeit with differing results. Born into a military family, it was expected that Wolfgang would join some aspect of the armed forces; the Navy, following his father and mother's example; the UN Marines, such as his two brothers, or UN Intelligence, as his sister did. However, the young Wolfgang found no interest in current military affairs, instead pouring over texts of battles and strategies of yore. From the age of fourteen, Wolfgang broke from the norm, deciding conclusively to study ancient history.

The decision was, at best, poorly received by his parents, his father especially. Recently promoted to Rear Admiral after his service during the Jovian Wars, Richard Hartmann, a stoic figure in all accounts, had fully expected for his son to follow in his footsteps. In 2425, Read Admiral Hartmann would direct his full attention to the situation growing in NewSpace, practically cutting off any relationship with his youngest son. With his father out of the picture, Wolfgang devoted more of his time to his studies, and by the time of his graduation from general academics at age 17, he had a full scholarship lined up for the somewhat prestigious New Salzburg University. Following his dream of becoming an historian, Wolfgang officially enrolled in 2428, leaving Tachyon Station for the first time for the Alpha Centauri system.

Unaware of the escalating situation surround the planet Hollis circa 2430, Wolfgang was greatly enjoying the university life. His days filled with lectures on pre-spaceflight conflicts and politics, Wolfgang could only describe his life as perfect. As with all things, it was too good to last. On May 16th of 2430, the Frigate UNNS Stalwart is lost, presumably with all hands during the Battle of Grandview after being struck repeatedly by planet-based artillery. Wolfgang's Mother, Captain Johanna Hartmann, is currently listed as missing in action, although it is more than likely that she went down with her ship. The news broke any semblance of idyllic studying. After the news was delivered by his estranged father, Wolfgang grew distant from those around him. While often away on deployment, Wolfgang was incredibly close with his mother Johanna, often considering her his closest confidant. The next few months seemed to crawl by at a snail's pace, each night being haunted by images of his dead mother..

Wolfgang Hartmann officially graduates in the top 25 of his class from New Salzburg University in August of 2431, on the eve of his 20th birthday. By this time, the war on Hollis was reaching critical levels. Each month more troops are transferred, either as front-line combat forces or as garrisoned units stationed in cities/towns. After learning that both of his brothers, as part of the 107th Mechanized, would most likely be facing open combat soon, Wolfgang began spending less time books of ancient history, instead choosing to learn modern combat doctrines. Due to his family connections, he was able to have access to documents usually restricted to those within the military, allowing him to read actual battle statistics from the battlefields of Hollis. The raw data of combat losses, from both sides of the conflict, shocked Wolfgang, as the media reports of the region reported substantially fewer losses than reality. Perhaps due to a sense of family duty, or patriotic pride, Wolfgang decided to shelf his studies for the moment, and joined the military.

During his initial training, Wolfgang displayed an unusual talent with heavy weapons, especially incendiary projectors. As many theaters of battle on Hollis descended into brutal street fighting, the armed forces began training units in the dedicated use of close support weapons, including shotguns, grenade launchers, and flamethrowers. Already showing an aptitude for the latter, Wolfgang began additional training in the proper application of the M7057/D Flamethrower, as well as standard rifle training. During the final months of training, Wolfgang was hit with more disastrous news. The 107th Mechanized, the detachment his brothers were attached to, had recently been in conflict with a clan of rebels known as Clan Stephenson, later referred to as the Battle of Moultrie. Incoming data reported at least 10,000 dead UN soldiers, with more being added to the list with every passing day. By September of 2432, Wolfgang officially completes his training, and is designated a Private First Class, with a specialization in Close Support Weapons. At least one of his brothers have been confirmed KIA during the Battle of Moultrie, the other MIA. He presumes the worst.

On December 21, 2432, Wolfgang is transferred to the 153rd Infantry Division. While initially hesitant of the posting, Wolfgang has now fully accepted his role, and secretly relishes the chance to get some revenge on the rebels who killed his mother and brothers..

Appearance: Cue Space Viking
Ethnicity: Scandinavian- Himinn Barn (Scandinavian Descendant born in space)
Origin: Centuaris (Alpha Centauri Spaceport Alpha, or ACSA)
Specialization: Machine Gunner
Personality: Ymir's personality matches his choice of weaponry perfectly. Its loud, in your face, and you want it on your side. He is determined, charismatic, and loyal, but also short tempered and stubborn, sometimes leading to impulsive decisions that he believes are for the greater good.
Equipment:
-.50 Cal. EDF Heavy Machine Gun
- Occulder Hand Cannon
- MTCA with Custom Helmet
-3 Remote Detonators
-Kukri Ridge Runner
Interests and Fears:
-Being born and raised on a Space Station, Ymir is fascinated with Planetary Topography and has a love for Cartography.
-He is highly superstitious, and is not only susceptible to trickery that way but fears some actions may cause him spiritual punishment.
Biography: Ymir Rollosson was born on the Alpha Centauri Spaceport-City of Centauris in 2405 to two Scandinavian Cultural Preservationists.

After the unification of Earth, sects of people from all national and ethnic groups set out to preserve the historical culture and uniqueness of they're respective regions. While the majority of these groups were more moderates simply wishing to preserve their history, others became more nationalistic, fully embracing some ancient traditions and modernizing their old culture. The Scandinavian Movement was referred too as Sögulegir Forráðamenn, or The Historical Guardians. A far more radical sect of The Guardians began slowly reviving Old Norse traditions as the Earths population became mkre tolerant, eventually creating a Neo-Pagan movement and establishing colonial strongholds.

Ymir was raised in such a family, brought up to respect and fear the reimagined versions of the Norse Pantheon, reading the ancient Sagas, and hoping to oneday enter Valhalla.

Growing up on the Station, Ymir always longed to travel the cosmos and explore like his forefathers. Doing decent in his studies, he always trained with close friends of his, frequently boxing in matches in the lower levels of the station to raise money for him to leave after coming of age.

Instead of pursuing higher education, Ymir used his savings to get passage to the Sol System. Once on Earth he lived in Europe, where he met a UN Recruiter at their base in Stockholm. From here Ymir would enlist, graduation Higher-Mid teir of his class in 2430, where he was assigned to the 95th Heavy Artillery Company. He stayed with the company for only a year before being reassigned to the 153rd, only 3 weeks before they were scheduled to pass through the Gates.

Going through the Gate, Ymir likened it to traveling the Bifrost, feeling like a great warrior entering a new land. He is now ready to fight for the safety of the RoH, and to bring himself honor.

Provisionally accepted since everything but the armaments is fine.

Our squad is coming together nicely now, but a Marksman is still a must-have and an Engineer would be nice as well. I might just fill those spots with NPCs to speed our progress to the IC.

But being the child of miners was boring, with the only school over fifty miles away and parents too busy for homeschooling he and his friends managed to go from ruffians to actual criminals, with thefts becoming endemic across the company town. It would take some time for the gang to be caught, with only one police officer and a whole slew of other problems to deal with the gang became a backburner problem. That is, until he couldn't ignore them any longer. One of Evans' friends killed a woman during a home invasion, the towns first murder and the sole police officer wasn't about to let it go unsolved, it was his luck they were just dumb twenty-somethings who were too panicked to do any cleanup. The crew was brought in and they consequently flipped on each other. Evan's was the youngest and was offered a choice: the military or a whole lot of jail time. He joined up.

17 years old and in the Army, he was put into the infantry and served his mandatory four-year sentence as a rifleman on the Cadius Occupation Zone fighting against UN Secessionists. On the completion of his four-year stint, he was offered the chance to muster out, but Evan's had finally found a place to belong, going home to Carroway's Rest was no longer an option, the Army was a family and a home. He reenlisted and was given the option to change his specialty, and Evans chose to go through Specialty School again and become a medic, which is the position he's been in for six years.

ACCEPTED.

Glad to hear it.

I've also added sections on demography and military slang to the OP; just to provide a bit more detail.

Not to rush, but is there a rough timeline for when the IC will be up and running?

I would say two days from now at the earliest and four at the latest. It would be nice to see a couple more apps roll in first.

So, for those in Alpha Squad, do you want to establish how well we know each other before the IC opens up, or just kinda wing it? IIRC the squad will have at the very least spent a few weeks together already

I have the IC ready to go if there is any interest left, but seeing how quiet things are, I would say this is pretty much dead.

Which is alright - I may relaunch this in a couple months.

Oh captain my captain

I am here.
The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

I'm still pretty interested.

That certainly is heartening to hear. I guess I'll go ahead and launch now then. Since we still don't really have a full Alpha Squad, should I just fill the vacancies with NPCs? It would make things smoother but it would force newcomers to join one of the other squads.

ICCC!!

A possible solution for this issue would be to have the NPCs transferred to other squads to make room for new players, or killed of entirely if the situation allows it realistically.

Well, since everyone seems to be in Valentins squad, I just wrote it as his squad is a little under manned as compared to the rest in the platoon, and that new recruits would trickle in throughout the deployment. I figured that would be a good workaround.

But, if we have NPC's, that would work well too and I would be happy to edit anything you guys think I should.
