This is taking place in 999.M41, so Cadia still stands (but not for long now, sadly). Since we’re on the Eastern Fringe, far from Cadia, a regiment of Cadians could have been sent here years ago, before the 13th Black Crusade even started.

BY THE EMPEROR'S WILL, CADIA STILL STANDS!

Understood.

I know the feeling. I used to maintain a small Cadian tabletop army myself, a detachment of the 110th Cadian ‘Shadow Corps’. It’s probably still somewhere in my garage. They held till the planet cracked!

No, you can be from any regiment you like. It looks like we have a Cadian guardsman, but most like to be from homebrew regiments. Mordians will be fine.

I think I'm the only one with a penal regiment, and even then only kinda.

+++Subject: Wilhelm von Rheinland
+++Rank: Unteroffizier(Sergeant)
+++Age: 34
+++Gender: Male
+++Physical appearance: Height is 6'4", weight is 160 pounds.

-Very, very good at intimidating when he wants to
-Excellent guitar player

+++Personality:
Wilhelm is a "dour, cynical sonovabitch"(As said by one of his deceased subordinates) who nonetheless takes great care for the lives of those who serve under him, and despite his general cynicism and mistrust of some authority figures, he is still, in the end, a loyal servant of the Emperor.
+++Weaknesses:
Puts the men under his command ahead of the mission at hand, and is often too cynical, to the point that his jokes are taken as seditious talk. As such, he has narrowly been executed several times.
+++Likes and Dislikes:
Likes:
-"Shootin' the grox"(Gossiping/arguing/talking aimlessly)
-Exchanging stories of past campaigns with others

-Old Calvary sabre from his father, dating to the Age of Terra, supposedly. Upgraded with a chainblade, so does that make it a 'chain-sabre'?
-Guitar
-20 days combat rations
+++Biography:
Wilhelm was born on the Civilized World of Gustaloff. From a young age he was drawn to Gustaloff's Imperial Guard Regiment, the Freikorps Gustaloff, which, unusually among Guard Regiments, had, at least on paper, a 100% volunteer force. At age 14 he lied about his age and signed up, rising the ranks relatively rapidly. A disastrous campaign wiped out half of his squad due to bad orders/spurious executions by the unit's Commissar, and left Wilhelm with a bad taste in his mouth for Commissars. After a few more battles he was assigned to Tarvus.

+++Biography: Grafford grew up as the 9th child to a family of mid level nobility. As such there were no places from his in any respectable family position and no positions available for him at any court. When Offered a life in the administratum or a Commission in the Guard he chose to join the Guard. During the beginning of the Tarvus Cleaning his Platoon was tasked with holding a blocking position for his company's main element, his orders explicitly stated that if his position was untenable the attack would be called off. If such an incident took place the entire Battalion would lose the option to place forward observers on key terrain therefore losing direct fire support from the Cepuliteran 20th Artillery Corps for their upcoming general offensive. The Officer Corps of the entire 14th Protractian was informed how critical this fire support would be in order to keep casualties low and maintain unit effectiveness for the duration of the Campaign.

When the attack finally came to Grafford's Platoon they thought the Cultists would be easy pickings for the well drilled troops of the 14th and they were. What was not expected was the sheer number of fanatics throwing themselves at the Platoon. After four and a half hours of fighting 6 men were dead and 15 more were walking wounded out of the 50 orginally assigned to Grafford. His Sergeant's (who were hardened veterans) suggested they move the wounded and begin an tactical withdrawal while placing explosives in their wake. Grafford resisted and told his men they would not be the reason the Whole Division suffered against the arch enemy and that they would hold the line against anything the traitors would throw at them. It was around that time that the first sounds of bolter fire began to bark out, men of the 14th Protratian fell like wheat before the scythe. Grafford and his NCO's saw that very manifestation of terror incarnate when several traitor Marines joined the attack to break through to the company's rear lines.

Shaking Grafford ordered his men to hold the line for the glory of the God-Emperor, while looking at the his note book of strike packages. Under the brevity code "skyfall" there was a annotation of any severe warp or traitor Marine presence was observed. Grafford however did not understand the meaning of Severe in this context, especially when the guns of the Imperial Navy are involved, I request for "Skyfall 250 meters east" of his Platoons blocking position was called for along with the proper clearance codes indicating him as a member of the 14th Protractian's Officer Corps.

Macro Batteries fell from the sky in the Area of Operations long the Divisions front and several successful attacks were cut short by the guns of the Imperial Navy. When the fist rounds hit the planet both the Guardsmen of the 14th and the traitors knew the area would be saturated and scattered their formations. Grafford's platoon retreated towards their designated fall back point when they saw the streak of fire land behind Friendly lines vaporizing the area with their company command post. Due to an error made in haste by one of the voxmen the Navy was under the impression the Traitor Marines were 250 meters east of the Battalion Command center, that area place the Marco shot firmly in the middle of Graffords company Area of Operations. Instantly the company was combat ineffective, in fact two and a half battalions worth of men were killed and several key pieces of terrain lost to the arch traitor due to the blunder.

Due to the mistake the 14th Protractian's requests for future fire support missions was required to be routed through the Lord General and the Commanding General of the 14th Protractian as well as his command staff were purged by the Commissariate for incompetence as were the battalion and regimental command staff directly in line of Grafford chain of Command. Further it turned out that a major concentration of Traitors Marines were in the Area of Operations assigned to the Protractian 14th who now lacking major fire support were denied strike packages or received them too late to be effective.

This led to the 14th being dismantled by the traitor Marines during several months of running battles until they were finally cut off and widdled to pockets of minor resistance behind Traitor lines.

The Commissariate Purges led to the Sub-Sector Protractis Governor, Grand Prior Tsagos, to file compliants with the administratum, commissariate, and departmento munitorum and rumor indicated that he or a member of his family were personally en route to take up the matter. Until such a time the four other Protractian Divisions were diverted out of the area and Ordered by Tsagos himself to maintain their garrisons further in system and stay out of the battle space.

Now, Cold, tired, worn down, Grafford is cut off that last few of his men bleeding waiting for the Platoon Sgt. to return with aid once he found a way out of enemy lines. But that was 3 days ago and the sound of the fighting was going futher away into Imperial Lines, there was no help coming for Grafford and what few were left dying of his platoon.
A 6.1 civilization, according to this index.

I think I will start an IC Thread once I get applications in from the Cadian and Mordian players. Everyone’s first post should pretty much just detail how they found their way to the group.

Did we lose to Nids or Cultists? Both?

We're we attacking or defending?

Is it possible our regiment got away and we were left behind or was it a total loss?

Working on first post ideas, these'll help.

This will be a useful reference for everyone, so:
Our former regiments were engaged in heavy fighting on a rocky plateau, trying to hold the Imperial flank against Chaos forces. The balance of power was roughly even, but then a host of
Tyranids emerged out of a mountain range to the Imperial rear that was thought impassable by High Command. Due to the Shadow in the Warp disrupting widespread Astropathic communication, Imperial Commanders were only made aware of the situation hours too late. A mass retreat east was ordered, with many regiments abandoning their equipment and fleeing as quickly as they could, all discipline lost. Surrounded or heavily damaged regiments were simply destroyed to a man, leaving very few survivors on the plateau.

Eventually, the arrival of Chaos Astartes reinforcements, supplemented by a summoned Greater Daemon of Khorne, drove the Tyranids off the high ground, sending them slinking back into hidden positions dotted across the landscape. The heretics consolidated their resources on the plateau before moving out again the Imperials again, leaving only a sparse garrison to defend the region. Seeing this, the xenos returned again, and fighting has resumed between the Tyranids and the forces of Chaos, who are mostly comprised of weakened cult units on garrison duty with a very small host of lesser daemons occasionally roaming the area. The Imperial survivors have banded together into many small squads and war bands with no real inter-group communications or a cohesive strategy of escape off the plateau.

But by the Emperor's words, the Homo Sapiens Variantus shall be forgiven their shame of birth, if they enlist for lifetime in the Imperial Army ... I mean Guard, shouldn't they?

I'll have an app up quite soon, but I'd like to point out that, given the use of daemons in this war, all our Imperial characters will be rounded up, sterilised and, if we're really lucky, kept in concentration camps instead of being executed. Taint of Chaos and all.

Yep, even if we make it back to the Imperium, we’ll all be killed anyway. But as far as we are concerned, anything is better than getting devoured by daemons or hungry bugs at this point.

+++Subject: Kai Bryn "Noob"
+++Rank: Probiter/Whiteshield (raw recruit)
+++Age: 18
+++Gender: Male
+++Physical appearance: Dark hair, cut short in typical military fashion, blue eyes, slight build, barely looks old enough to be holding a lasgun.
+++Identifying Marks: No tattoos or cybernetics, very average in almost every way

+++Nativity: Harbux Prime, an agriworld a few hundred lightyears from Tarvus.
+++Guard Regiment: A standard Astra Militarum regiment, with few distinguishing features from any other 'Cadian-like' outfit.
+++Skills: Not entirely useless with his lasgun, Kai is a reasonable shot, although his experience in shooting anything other than targets is lacking. Also, very lucky; whether blessed by the Emperor, the Chaos Gods or some other force, Kai has stumbled his way through this war with barely a scratch.
+++Personality: Optimistic and naïve, full of eager enthusiasm, despite the carnage around him. Has utter faith in both the Emperor and his commanding officers' ability, despite all signs to the contrary. In short, the perfect Guardsman.
+++Weaknesses: Naïve and inexperienced, prone to bad tactical choices. Probably very grating to more experienced and battle-weary soldiers.
+++Likes: The Emperor. Good food. His pet 'dog' at home (keeps a photo of a dog-like creature that he shows to anyone who he feels is friendly)
+++Dislikes: Being shouted at. Killing things. Heretics, apostates and xenos
+++Interests: Tractors. Farming. His 'dog'.
+++Fears: Aliens. Cultists. Commissars.

+++Equipment: Standard set-up of brand-new flak armour, unfired lasgun, combat knife still with manufacturing marks on the blade, couple of grenades, ration packs, photo of 'dog'
+++Biography:

An eager young farmer on the agriworld of Hurbux Prime, Kai was seduced by the propaganda of Astra Militarum recruitment posters and the promises of the one-legged, one-armed, half-blind recruitment sergeant who told him that the military was the best place to serve the Emperor. Joining up with the thousand or so other new recruits taken from his homeworld as a tithe to compensate for a particularly bad harvest year. Whilst en-route to Tarvus, Kai and his squad mates received all their equipment and training; learning to shoot in the vast hangers of the spacecraft and being slowly turned from uneducated bumpkins to a reasonably competent fighting force. Upon their arrival at Tarvus, Kai's transport ship was hit almost as soon as it reached orbit and plummeted to the ground, with the impact killing almost all on board. Kai and his squad stumbled out and straight onto the front lines, their squad being commandeered by a commissar almost instantly. In the battle that followed, all of Kai's squad was killed, including the commissar and everyone else around him. Kai found himself behind enemy territory and wandered aimlessly for a good couple of hours before finding some others.

Should I start the IC thread within the next 24 hours? Do we have enough guardsmen? What do the people say?
