The Order of the Arcane, though, is an organization dedicated to studying magic and studying realms apart from our own. They've been known to summon various creatures including demons, and have a fascination with them despite the danger presented. I can't say a ton more about them, but they'll be present in the plot later on in the future.

So I cannot app as a harry potter boi. M'kay.

Magic users are fine. The Order aren't the only magic users in the world, they're just specialists who study it regularly and collect knowledge on it.

The only requirement for magic using characters is that you have the same power source, which is drawing from the Realm of Myths, the same place that the demons in this RP come from.

So powers are indeed a must, yes?

Asking because I have a character in mind, but they are your typical "powerless hero", if I need to make one up for them though I can go with a pretty mundane one. They have lots of personality if that makes up for it :P

What is the rules on having the parents of the character have been established heroes?

You don't necessarily need an extraordinary power. It can be something like super intelligence, for example. Having some kind of exclusive tech that other people don't have(that you made yourself, usually), can be considered a power. The Syndicate generally wouldn't accept someone that didn't have any of that and was just a normal person doing vigilante things, though.

Being relatives with established heroes or villains is fine.

So deciding in high school that the world was depressing and needing a good old fashioned star spangly hero does not count as a power?
Would a shield gifted from an angel? Cause that is all she has from the "base", but I can totally come up with something if needed; superhuman endurance seeming a good option as that allows for some good fisticuff fight scenes with the real tough cookies. Also not too OP.

Well, it's not quite making a deal with the devil as much as drawing strength from the same place. Magic isn't as abstract of a thing in this universe, blending various mythologies. Instead, there's one place where magic originates from, and magic users on Earth basically move energy or other things between realms. Think of the realm as a battery that charges your powers, if that analogy makes any sense.

They kind of have to draw a line somewhere, otherwise any decently athletic person with some fighting knowledge can just demand to join the Syndicate. Some kind of equipment like that shield would work, though. I just have to mention that while you might be able to find angel-like beings, they wouldn't really be that in specific terms because the mythological part of this world is detached from the mythology of human religions.

So the specifics of Saint Michael the Archangel giving the shield to this character would not work?

In that case we could sweep the origin aside? That shield was added back at the start of her as a kind of inside joke, but quickly became an actual part of her character.

The endurance it is then, which is kind of funny given she has dwarfism. Diamonds may be small, but they are mighty! Do the Watchers often grant powers or is that a once in a blue moon kind of thing?

I mean, the shield thing still works, it's just a matter of who gives it. It's just that none of the Earth mythologies are true in this universe, and the Realm of Myths exists instead, which powers magic users and has a separate backstory entirely.

The Watchers don't grant powers "often" but one more person isn't too many, considering the overall number of metahumans. You could get powers from them, which would generally involve them showing up one day, granting the power and not giving much information, and then leaving without a trace.

Not at the start no, he did get some in the second arc back in FHAJ.

Anyways it was just a joke. If I do join this, I will bring in a new character.

I can work with that, perhaps they take pity on some poor girl out there fighting crime with only a bloody shield XD

Should I like randomize a wheel to see what they give? Cause I was thinking slightly beyond peak human form, but then I am just straight up making a female Captain America... we shall leave this to fate. Gonna use the Discord instead for this now, since there will probably be a lot of back and forth with suggestions as I push the random button on the superpower wiki.

You've got a lot of freedom, the only thing that binds all magic is the source. The actual kinds of magic can be extremely different from each other.

Although, if you need ideas, it's always useful to have a few healers on hand.

I think I can use that as a gimmick...but from what I'm understanding, it's only limited on one type of magic (IE Pyromancers, Ice-casters, what have you) or can one dabble in multiple, but not be as good?

PLAYER CHARACTER APPLICATION

VITALS

Name: Gabriella Michelle Raphaella Sara Bianchi-Costa
Nickname/Alias: Tetrarch
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Female
Age: 21
Build: 58kg (9st 1lb), 173cm (5' 8")

Primary Ability: Gabriella's main ability is that her mind controls three seperate bodies and has the mental capacity to operate all three of them. She considers all of them to be her, and doesn't differentiate between them.

Other Abilities: Gabriella has several other powers. The first is that she's a post-cognitive; she can see the history of any object or person that she touches, with the longer that she is in contact with the object enabling her to see further into its history at a rate of one minute of contact allowing for a day of its history to be viewed. Her second is that she's a 'view' telepath; she can read the thoughts and emotions of anyone in a forty meter radius around herself. Using either her telepathy or her post-cognition causes her eyes to glow. Her third and final power is that she can summon a 'projection' of herself when someone she has used either of her other secondary powers thinks of her. The projection can only be interacted with physically by who it is summoned to, or one of Gabriella's actual bodies. The projection can be made invisible to anyone but the summoner and Gabriella herself, and she can only have one projection summoned at a time.

Power Drawbacks: Gabriella's powers are all very much non-combat oriented powers; although her projection can fight, it has to do so unarmed. In a fight against anyone with combat powers, she is almost certain to lose without planning and careful use of tactics.

Equipment: CZ 550 Rifle, SIG Sauer P320 handgun, sabre.

DETAILS

Nationality: Swiss
Hometown: Bellinzona
Sexuality: Bisexual

Biggest Flaw: Gabriella has an overconfidence that many would consider arrogance; she has an inflated sense of her own value and considers herself simply better than most people. Also, although not a pacifist, Gabriella has a strong dislike of actually fighting; rather, she views having to use her skills and powers for fighting as beneath her.
Main Skills: Gabriella, although she hasn't undergone military training of any form, is an experienced amateur sharpshooter using both of her weapons of choice, in addition to fencing at a competitive level back home. She speaks English and Italian fluently, with her German and French being near fluent and her Spanish, Russian and Chinese vaguely passable. Her time giving her three bodies different personalities has also made her into quite an actor.

Personality: Gabriella is, or at least tries to be, a nice person by being kind, considerate, helpful et cetera et cetera. However, due to her upbringing giving her a sense of inherent superiority over others, these attempts normally come across as excessively condescending to whomever is on the receiving end. Uses sarcasm and wit, augmented by power-informed insults as a defence mechanism against others and to make herself feel better. Takes her own personal pride and honour extremely seriously, to the point that her sense of honour can override rational thought. She's also very touchy about her name; you call her Gabriella or she will slap you.

Biography: Legally, Gabriella is three seperate people; Gabriella, Michelle and Raphaella Bianchi-Costa, born as identical triplets, born in Bellinzona born in Switzerland to a pair of Swiss aristocrats; or they claimed to be aristocrats, at least, as Switzerland abolished its nobility in the 19th century. But the small castle they lived in and their wealth and their claimed title and coat of arms and family history said otherwise. The three of them displayed little indicaton that they were three bodies sharing one mind at a young age beyond being scarily cooidinated; they learned to walk and talk at almost the exact same time and a near-telepathic ability to finish each other's sentences which people found a bit adorable, but other than that little. They tended to stick together as a trio throughout school, and their mind, which took the name of the eldest of the three as her own, learned to act as three distinct although very similar individuals as she grew, learning to act out conversations with herself and construct personalities for each of them due to being unsure how everyone would react and quite enjoying the status quo.

Having three seperate bodies and brains but one unifying mind did not really help until high school and exams; being able to effectively study three subjects at the same time proved a great help, or just two while the third body was out partying with friends or sleeping or something else. Given her upbringing, she grew up with an inherent sense of superiority, that she was better than everyone else. Everything her life seemed to confirm this; she performed better at school; she was the de facto social leader and trendsetter. She was the one everyone looked up to, the one that everyone wanted to be like.

Having effectively triple the time on her hands compared to anyone else was rather boring, as so she took up fencing and range shooting to pass the time for entertainment, even while managing to keep up with her academic work. Life was good. She had fun, friends, was successful academically. Naturally, things began to go wrong. She began to grow overconfident with her knowledge and skills, arrogant almost. Everything went her way, she could do no wrong and was flawless; the world seemed to be bending to give her what she wanted. Naturally, she began to assume she was simply 'better' than everyone else, and began to model herself on the old European aristocracy, a haughty ice queen above the 'peasants'.

Of course, that didn't last forever. That all stopped at the age of 16, when one of her classmates, through the luck of genetics, acquired superpowers. That was her first personal contact with superpowers, proper, visible ones at least, and it came from a stupid, catty girl she disliked intensely. Her newfound luck left Gabriella in the social wilderness, their positions reversed. She kept her grades up, because she could not lose her academic standing as well as her social standing. She asked her parents to get her superpowers; they said it was impossible, that you got superpowers through luck, you couldn't simply go out and get them. Apparently life was unfair in that regard.

Naturally, she wasn't going to get someone, anyone, get an edge over her. She was going to acquire superpowers for herself beyond the rather mundane one that she already possessed. A solid year of research ensued. She delved into multiple fields of research, what little was known about various super soldier programs, magic, the apparent increase in powers after the appearance of the Outsiders and of course the various dubious places that claimed to be able to give you powers. Magic, or learning how to use it, seemed like her best option at first, but she hit a dead end there soon enough, too much knowledge hidden away. The other options all dried up soon enough too, leaving her with no other options than 'power-granting' sources that seemed more like scams or conspiracy theories than anything else.

Of course, some conspiracy theories turn out to be, well, true. The Watchers, although she didn't recognise them as the Watchers given the darkness; she just felt a metal hand on her head, something she doesn't remember due to being groggy from just waking up was said, and the hand vanished with no sign it had ever been there.

If it weren't for discovering her new powers after she woke up, she'd have dismissed it as a fever dream or something. But she did have powers, even if they were just as subtle as her pre-existing power. But, well, she'd gotten more powers, even if they weren't exactly what she'd hoped for. Her ruse of not being three people was quickly dropped, powers were demostrated, and she was dispatched to join the Futures Program in Santa Marina.

PLAYER CHARACTER APPLICATION

VITALS

Name: Nike Mezerova
Nickname/Alias: None.
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Complex.
Age: 19
Build: 55kg, 168cm (5’ 5”)

Primary Ability: Nike’s main ability is that she gains the ability to control any vehicle that she touches with the greatest possible skill. As long as it’s a vehicle, it counts, so anything from mopeds to fighter jets to the USS Missouri is an option, although vehicles that require crews still need them even if she is in control of the vehicle. She does also gain the skills required to command the crew of that vehicle, however.

Other Abilities: None.

Power Drawbacks: Without a vehicle of some form, she's just a normal human.

Equipment: N/A. Her bike is somewhere and she would quite like it back.

DETAILS

Nationality: Russian.
Hometown: Vladivostok.
Sexuality: Lesbian.

Biggest Flaw: Herself. Nike is not the smartest person around by any stretch of the imagination, has a terrible memory and attention span, is easily angered and is generally not an easy person to deal with. Her English isn't very good either.
Main Skills: Beyond her power-granted skill, Nike is a self-taught mechanic and vehicle modifier, although this only extends to motorbikes, and she has some experience limited experience in street fighting.

Personality: Nike's personality is best described as a person that has misplaced their capacity to care. She can take pretty much everything in her stride, and there's very little she actually cares about beyond her bike and her own pleasure, but she will defend both those things to to the death, along with anything that manages to add itself to that list. Other than that, well, she's hedonistic, seeking her own pleasure, but not exclusively so; she'll help people out if it seems fun or she's bored and she has nothing else to do, and a bored Nike is a rather dangerous thing, as a bored Nike has time to plan, and a Nike with plans tends to pull... Big things out. She's also honest to a fault, and will never lie about anything. Not because of any moral reasons, but she simply doesn't care enough to lie.

Biography: Nike was born in Vladivostok to Sofia Mezerova, a semi-notable getaway driver for hire, and so it was only really natural that Nike would take after her mother. She went to school, but already the attitude that would characterize her, namely her seeming inability to care about anything, was evident. Her mother helped her hide her unusual status, not that she really cared, but apparently other people did, and so dealing with it became more of a reflex action, a routine that she did rather than one she actually cared about.

She left school as soon as she could, as it bored her; she bunked off, to smoke, to drink, to joyride. Of those, only the third mattered to her, since she was quite good at it. Stupidly good, in fact. And it was fun. Very fun. Naturally, she asked her mother to teach her to drive better, and after a brief reluctance, her mother agreed to teach her how to drive better. All that did was show Nike how good she really was, as her mother pointed her at racing circuits, aiming to turn her into her successor. Unfortunately, racing circuits rapidly bored Nike, and so at 15, she decided to commit her first case of auto theft.

That case led to a police chase, during which she may have killed some people, but she didn't care. It was fun. Sure, she had to ditch the car and run off, but then she just stole another. Things... Escalated. More cars were stolen, more people were killed. She even stole a boat towards the end of the 'First Vladivostok Rally' as she named it and sailed out of the city, landing and blending nicely back into society flawlessly. She didn't really care if she was caught or not.

Unfortunately, she couldn't keep herself away from auto theft for long, and on a trip to Europe, she chose to indulge herself again in the 'All-Europe Grand Tour', which was a year-long spree of auto thefts, manslaughter, police chases and one murder from throwing a guy out of a car at high speed on a German autobahn, criss-crossing all over Europe in a chaotic manner, robbing people of cash to feed herself before she finally found herself crossing the Belorussian border and then the Russian border, and she was bored.

Simple theft had become boring, and so she resolved to do something big. It didn't take her long to decide what, but the how, the how took her two months of preparation and robberies to fund her preparations. She eventually settled on filling the base's water supply with LSD on a day when a Tu-160 training flight was to take place, which she was going to steal. After motorbiking her way over the base fence with a well-placed rise, she made her way to the readied Tu-160 while the base crew was busy seeing all manner of things, and she set off.

Once she was airborne, she realised she had no idea what to do with it, and so she decided to crash it into something big and recognisable. Struggling to come up with ideas that weren't in cities, she settled on Mount Fuji in Japan. With the Tu-160's flight route meant to take it out towards Japan anyways, she simply followed the original route of the training flight until she left Russian airspace, when she turned the plane southwards towards Japan, flying it at maximum speed to avoid interception. Japanese air control contacted her multiple times, she simply swore back.

Unfortunately, her geographic knowledge was... Extremely lacking, and she overshot Mount Fuji and instead the Tu-160 crashed into Mount Ibuki in a delightful explosion as she parachuted out. Naturally, she decided she wanted to steal another plane, and so she found her way to a JASDF airbase where she was apprehended while attempting to hijack a F-2. The Japanese police ended up in mildly tense negotiations with the Syndicate after her powers were discovered, as her crimes were all crimes committed with the assistance of powers which fell under their jurisdiction. She was shipped back to the US, where the various European police forces added their own record of her offenses to the list. Although numerous, most were comparatively minor, and given her powerset, she was deemed only a minor escape risk and was thus deemed suitable for rehabilitation.

Of course, that's the official story. The unoffical reality is that she was almost immedately transfered to Machina following her arrival and injected with some form of special long-term anasthetic to keep her out. She woke up in a well-lit room resembling a prison cell, a note left on a nailed-down table highlighting everything that had unfolded. Due to her powers, she had been volunteered into being a pilot for one of Machina's prototype mechs. She had a bomb surgically implanted into her stomach, a second sealed to her ankle on a bracelet, and a neural jack implanted onto her spine to enable her to control the prototype without dying. In addition, her beloved bike had been recovered from where she'd safely stashed it away in Russia and along with the bombs and her life was effectively being held hostage. Although not exactly pleased with the turn of events, she didn't have much of a choice in the matter, and so she accepted the deal.

Since then, she's technically been a member of the Futures Program; she has a room like the others, but she doesn't use it since she's unable to, instead living in a 'temporary' holding cell in the lowest floors of the building. She's on the roster, but she's rarely seen and is something of an urban legend among the students and support staff. And she's really, really bored.

Okay, Lunas, this has... captured my interest somewhat. It's always interesting when the OP specifically demands that the PCs be crippled by inexperience and prefers weak powers that can grow overtime. I've never seen it done well nor succeed for very long, but maybe this will be the first time for me.

I don't believe I've read anything about a restriction on the amount of characters one player can have, but is there one?

Because I have three interesting semi-formed ideas. One can be worked on immediately, one needs further clarification from the OP, and the third I need Forest to look over with a fine tooth comb and then inevitably deny it and make me work on one of or both of my other ideas.
"Metaphors have a way of holding the most truth in the least space." - Orson Scott Card

"Among my most prized possessions are words that I have never spoken" - Orson Scott Card

"There are no happy endings, because nothing ever ends." - Schmendrick the Magician

"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent." - Thomas Jefferson

"You don't write because you want to say something, you write because you have something to say." - F. Scott Fitzgerald

To be fair, I don't really ask for characters to be crippled, or weak, or anything like that. You can definitely have strong characters. We have someone right now that's bulletproof, another person is apping with a bioweapons user, someone is apping with a character that drains people's lives, etc. What I want people to realize is that there's still far stronger enemies out there that can shitstomp the main characters. Not all enemies are like that, but I don't want people to think they're gods that are the strongest people in the world because that's not really how this universe works.

But anyway, there's no limit on characters, just try not to make a bunch and go inactive while having interactions open with them. I also wouldn't say your idea will definitely be denied, but that depends on if it uses things from the restricted lists. Those things aren't actually banned, though, they just need extra discussion when applying to make sure it's balanced.

PLAYER CHARACTER APPLICATION

VITALS

Appearance:
Image

Gender: Female
Age: 18
Build: Four feet in height, weighs roughly one hundred pounds

Primary Ability: Grim Reaper Physiology

Other Abilities: N/A

Power Drawbacks: Able to view hourglasses that dictate when some of humanity shall die, in the form of Reaper her touch is life draining and lethal, when in "true form" the Reaper will lose life force gradually until they die and are left permanently as a Reaper, dying in human form will result in permanently becoming a Reaper

Equipment: "Celestial" shield, Ka-Bar, M1911

DETAILS

Nationality: American
Hometown: Eagle Creek, Pennsylvania, America
Sexuality: Homosexual

Biggest Flaw: Inability to know when a fight is lost
Main Skills: Medical prowess, strategy and leadership

Personality: Fairly outgoing and joyful, the kind of person to stop and help kittens out of trees, however has a real sadistic side when infuriated; could be said to perhaps have a touch of bipolarism due to this aspect of her personality and the sudden switch between both moods that can happen.

Biography: Robyn was born to Robert and Anya Davis, the former having served during the Cold War as a special warfare operator and the latter having fought at the same time as a member of the Soviet KGB. It was only after her father's death Robyn learned these facts and discovered that it was actually a planned assassination of Reagan where both met and after Anya was captured began the long journey that would end with her becoming part of the CIA and aiding bring down the mongrels that forced her to wear that damned red star.

Despite such extraordinary parents Robyn was brought up in a normal childhood. She was a bit odd for a girl though, never really a fan of barbie, she instead had G.I. Joes and more "boy toys", though she had a baby doll she adored named Melody. It was not until after the death of her father in her closing years of high school that things got real complicated.

She fought through the medical program at the school and graduated it a year ahead of time just in the hopes that running around on the ambulance could perhaps flee her own emotions. The long hours, sleepless nights, none of it kept the nightmares away. Robyn finally decided to do something about it, she needed a reason to be strong, that reason was that she would become a hero. Even with a complete lack of powers she made a metal shield and put on her dad's old uniform to go save her town the best she could.

Through the school year she would meet and befriend Rachel, a blossoming relationship that eventually would end with a civil union between them only a week after graduation.

Having been originally known as "Captain America", being mistaken for a man, Robyn would instead choose a costume more feminine after an event at the school involving a large fight, which she had stolen a cheerleader outfit for an impromptu costume during, and thus be called Lady Liberty or Miss America in the papers. neither name really sticking quite yet.

The shield she carries was given to her during an odd vision, out escaping the world in the forest of her hometown Robyn felt transported to this entirely different but still the same looking place, and there upon a stump was neatly placed the shield she now wields. A great comforting voice high above telling her to take it and defend the innocent and weak from the brutal and cruel.

Her powers are much more tragic, a curse placed upon her by these mysterious figures, angels sent to torment her for misdeeds done or so her narrative goes. Resting from a battle, a failed one that saw the sorrowful death of many, and the final straw for Lady Liberty as she ended the villain once and for all with her divine granted weapon against evil - an act that made her as horrible as the wolves she protected the sheep from. Divine retribution? A touch upon her forehead and the words "You shall become what you fear most." In truth it was a gift from the Watchers, for her courage and bravery as a hero, even with the stumblings, Robyn showed great promise to them. Thus they made her into what she feared most, Robyn's greatest fear was the death of her loved ones - still haunted by the memories of her father day after day. Awakening the next morning her eyes would be red as blood, her skin a ghastly pale, and from that point onward she would regard herself as cursed.

Tag, which of these three ideas sounds the most functional/best?

A paintball gun equipped paint-wielder who can travel through and control paint, as well as use it to bring drawings to life on enchanted canvas?

A candy user, one who gains different powers based on the candy they ingest, and once they eat enough candy, they can create a limited sphere of influence where they can use candy as weapons and have full control over them?

A literal worm king, a dude who can shapeshift into a worm, controlling vermiforms at his will and creating soil constructs to dig through?

VITALS

Name: Fiona, Flora, Rhona, Lachina, Davina, Jean, and Ann Jane Doe
Nickname/Alias: Jenny's sisters
Appearance:

Image
Image

Gender: all girls
Age: 18 as they were all born within 8 months

Ability/Abilities:N/A
Equipment:N/A

DETAILS

Faction: Pro-Jenny
Nationality: American
Skills:
- Cooking
- Coordination among siblings
- Cleaning
- Each play a different instrument: piano, trumpet, violent, cello, flute, bass, drums. (Jenny plays the clarinet)
- Financially literate
- Jean and Rhona have black belts in karate just like Jenny while the other sisters learned kick-boxing from their father.
- Photography and Art skills

Short Bio:
While Jenny is off doing whatever crazy stunts with Grandpa, the sisters were driving their dad to a point of exhaustion. Managing Jenny alone was taxing on his strength but seven daughters with different needs? Its just as tiring if not more tiring than caring for Jenny. Nobody would expect any of them to relate to Jenny due to their calm lifestyle. Only things that would remind a person of Jenny are their musical talents and their prowess in self-defense. They're all single like Jenny since their dad, despite the years of age, can still put up an intimidating presence to whatever suitor looking in their direction. Despite all the contrast between them and Jennifer, they still support the eldest sister in all her endeavors out of the love and admiration they have for her. While Jenny is off at the Syndicate, they would regularly call her to hear about her experiences.

Fiona likes to force Jenny spend her time reading books, a reason why Jenny enjoys bedtime stories
Flora's shy nature towards strangers might've made Jenny the loud, outspoken person she is
Rhona secretly encourages Jenny to attend College, might explain why she gets along well with Conagher
Lachina expresses her emotions though touch and music, a probable cause on why Jenny likes to snuggle and sing lullabies
Davina enjoys doing art and sports with Jenny, an explanation on why Jenny is good at games like chess and arm-westling
Jean is the second oldest sister in the family, could explain why Jenny cares so much for her teammates and eager to help them out
Ann is the snarky, rebel sister who plays games and talk about cute boys, a reason why Jenny owns a number of nighttime dresses and sexy clothing
