Name: Lady Maria of the Workshop Hunters
Gender or Sex: Female
Age: 27
Class: Hunter

Personality:A fanatical Hunter for the Workshop, her duty and skill is only matched by her quiet, kind demeanor. While a strict leader over her men, she is a nurturing soul to the people of Yharnam. A follower of the Healing Church, she is devout even though her proximity to the inner workings of the church has left her slightly jaded. Loyal to her peers and a true friend to all, her serious attitude hides a more sensitive side; however, that will not prevent her from asserting her ideas or thoughts into the conversation.

She carries herself high, and from initial appearance would almost seem as if she holds herself high above the rest. This is not the case, her demeanor is one carefully curtailed during her childhood as a Noble of Cainhurst; even years later, the teachings are still ingrained into her head.

Backstory: Born to a prestigious Cainhurst Noble Family during the tumultuous Independence Wars, Maria grew up in a sheltered and decadent lifestyle. The feudal family often inter-married with Royalty, leading Maria to be childhood friends with many Prince and Princesses. Even after the end of the war and Yharnam Independence secured, economic elites from both nations would often intermingle for their own benefit. Maria's early life was full of Illustrious Galas and Fantastical Balls; the young beauty was expected to keep up appearances and after her first Menarche, was expected to marry some far off Noblemen from Kataryna. However, even as a child she demonstrated a curious disposition, the handmaidens would often find her roaming the Castle or venturing outside to the Commoner's Housing. Her first introduction of combat came from watching the Sparring Sessions between Knights; wielding their Blood Blades, their dexterity and skill left a great impression on the young Heiress.

While her Farther sought to keep her relatively uneducated, for he saw the value of women in their ability to raise a child, her mother would often send for tutors and scholars that educated the Young Maria on the state of Nature and Life. From Archaeology to Biology to Mathematics, she excelled in most areas of study; however it was the arrival of one scholar from Byrgenwerth would set her on a new path. An student of Laurence rather than Willem, the Scholar would often pepper the teachings with quasi-religious teachings and folklore, painting the Great Ones as more Gods than literal Beings. As the Healing Church's dogma reached the castle, her parents dismissed them as mere myth, while Maria would soon become a secret acolyte of the Faith.

Years of poor harvests and bad investments had left her Father a shell of his former self, an older brother to a much more successful counterpart. As his Brother leveraged to take the Family Home for him, plots and enemies were everywhere in his mind. Disagreements about the education of Maria, as well as her Father's many secret night outings, had eroded the relationship between her parents. Her Mother and her Father were rarely seen in the same room, and Maria was forced to contend with both; all the while expected to keep up appearances. Reaching the age of 12, Maria began to spend greater and greater time with the Commoners, specifically an Old Knight who had taken retirement outside of her castle. This was the first time that Maria used the Chikage and discovered the true extent of her Blood's abilities; the Old Knight took the impressionable young teenager under his tutelage. As a close relative of Cainhurst Nobility, the inherent power of her blood magic was much greater than the average knight. Although training was difficult, Maria excelled; while she lacked the pure strength of her male counterpart, she demonstrated success in her dexterity and skill aptitude. By the time she turned 16, she would often fight and win against the most dangerous of Blood Knights.

However her Father's isolation in his room was soon to end. With word of his debts defaulting and his brother recent travel to Cainhurst, her Father soon began taking out his anger against anyone in his way. Having the same inherent abilities as Maria, but lacking training, he would often blatantly kill servants and serfs as a way to demonstrate his diminishing power. Maria and her mother would often recoil in fear as he walked through the halls, while he did not use his powers against them, he found other ways to torment them. The depravity of those sessions still haunt Maria; his demonstration of his blood abilities against the serfs did away with Maria's previous notions of chivalry and civility. When first taught the powers of Blood Magic, she imagined Knights in Shining Armor protecting the innocent. However, the reckless abuse and depravity he forced on her, her mother, and their servants destroyed her once child like imagination; these knights sworn to protect the innocent watched as their Lord Paramount hurt the innocent, and they did nothing. They stood there, as silent as ever.

What happened next is still a blur to Maria, loose images and actions can still be pieced together, but she doesn't much try to remember. What she does remember is her Father hurting her Mother, and her Chikage in her hand. Beyond that, its too painful to think about. After everything was said and done, she was the only one who left that room; she swore off Blood Blades and her Chikage, her power will come from skill, not her inherited traits. She ventured to her room and collected her necessities for the journey, then she went to the armory and retrieved a Rakuyo. This weapon didn't need blood to use. She could of stayed, maybe the Knights would understand, but she felt so sick of that place that she had no desire to stay.

Venturing south to Yharnam by foot, she wished to join the Church. Maybe she would take the Black and live out the rest of her days at a Monastery, although she feared she would be rejected because of what she had lost. However, it would be an encounter at an Inn of the Crossroads that changed everything; arriving there, she found the Inn eerily quiet. Entering the establishment she found the candles still burning but three bodies littered across the floor; smashed alcohol bottles, pistols, and swords covered the wooden boards. Seeking to investigate further, the quiet was interrupted by hushed and coarse breathing; a man sat at the edge of the room wrapped in bandages as if too hide himself. Brandishing her Rakuyo, the man turned around to reveal early signs of lycanthropy with fur jutting out of the wraps and his long stretched out limbs. He quickly pounced and demonstrated his impressive strength and speed, throwing her across the room. Even though she was armed, he was just too strong as he easily broke her left arm. Emptying her Evelyn into his Chest, he barely flinched. She could use her blood abilities, but she vowed never to do that. As he approached ever slowly, she stood up and composed herself, then attacked. With impressive ferocity for an ordinary human, she demonstrated impressive technique that prevented the monster from taking the momentum. In less than a minute she held her head high, while his head rolled across the floor. It wasn't until after the fight she noticed another man standing there with a scythe and grin on his face.

Gehrman took in the young woman, and taught her everything he knew. She was his first protege and true friend, and over the last ten years they have stayed by their sides as they trained dozens of new Hunters. From Ludwig to Logarius, each hunter would see themselves as students of hers. While Gehrman and others wished for more, as all men do with pretty girls, the scares from her past blinds her from their advances. When going through the Blood Ministration Ritual, many with in the Church wished to see how her innate blood abilities would combine with the ritual, yet she never tested it. Hunters must stay away from desires of death and power; for that is how they keep their humanity. Maria teaches her hunters the necessities of speed and restraint, and utilizes Cainhurst techniques to demonstrate how to hide in the shadows. While many within the Church hierarchy criticize her for her for either her uncleanliness, her background, or both; she ignores them, she is loyal to the gods, not man.
Attributes.
Quickening: a practitioner of the art of Quickening, a technique particular to the first hunters. Through this technique she pioneered, she is able to quickstep much quicker than most hunters, even faster than our eyes perception.

Name: Sister Ysolde
Gender or Sex: Female
Age: 18
Class: Devout
Personality: Zealous and devout, fanatical almost, yet quite sympathetic to the sickly and poor of Yharnam. Can be ruthless when she has to be however, especially when it comes to her duties as a Cleric of the Choir. A true believer when it comes to spreading the wonders of Blood Ministration across Yharnam, convinced in the salvation and prosperity promised by the Old Blood to not only the downtrodden, but Yharnam as a whole, if not all of humanity when the time comes.

Backstory: As the unwanted byproduct of infidelity between two star crossed lovers from two rival Yharnamite noble houses, Ysolde's birth had inspired no cause for celebration between the two families, drawing considerable enough ire from both to endanger the newborn's very well being instead, culminating in her abandonment at the steps of Oedon Chapel that moonlight night in a last ditch effort by her parents to save her life, where she was raised within the hallowed confines of the Cathedral Ward henceforth as an adopted ward of the newly ascendant Healing Church.

Only within those shadowed halls of that most regal cloister did Ysolde find family and kinship when the Gentry of Old Yharnam actively spurned her of both home and hearth. It was during these early years that she took to the teachings of her new home as would moth to a flame, developing an intimate understanding of the dogma and theology of her newly found faith, much more so than the other adopted orphans she had been ken to up to that point, her mind ever swirling and churning with tales of Great Ones and Higher Planes, enraptured with the craving for blood and insight found within those holy texts.

Perhaps it was this zeal and loyalty that spared her from the horrific experiments conducted by the Choir and School of Mensis on her young peers behind closed doors. Perhaps it was something else entirely, such as the quality of her blood that the Church discovered, and its compatibility with that most holy of mediums in the form of the Old Blood. Whichever the case, Ysolde was declared a blood saint thereafter, allowing her to join others like Saint Adeline as caretakers of the sickly and the poor, spreading the influence of the Church through the use of the healing blood found in their veins, injected into vials to be used to work the medical miracles brought about by Blood Ministration.
Image

However, her days dressed in the black garments of a blood saint was not to last long. Her lust for insight and her devotion to the cause had been noted, leading to that horrific, yet ever enlightening moonlit night when her eyes were exposed to a grim and eldritch truth beneath the surface when she traded ebony for ivory upon joining the ranks of the Choir. While not privy to all its secrets as perhaps its youngest newcomer, Ysolde has nevertheless been exposed to the Church's more darker dealings committed in the pursuit of knowledge and insight, which to her ultimate surprise hardly phased her as much as it should have. Despite the Choir's emphasis on insight however, she herself still sees the potential of both blood and insight in ushering humanity to a higher plane, but largely favors the former as the pathway to salvation due her prior experiences as a blood saint witnessing medical wonders accomplished through Blood Healing.

Name: Josef Humboldt
Gender or Sex: Male
Age: 44
Class: The Scholar
Personality: Inquisitive, Invasive, Secretive, Minor megalomaniac, Ambitious
Backstory: Josef was born an only child to a wealthy family with a home along Moonside Lake. He was always an inquisitive boy, and took much interest in the University of Byrgenwerth, which he spent many long hours gazing at through his telescope as a teenager. After a few too many business investments went sour, the family fortune was severely diminished. After his father died from disease, Josef used the money received from the will to fulfill his dream of gaining acceptance to Byrgenwerth.
While at the university, Josef was a gifted student, and his extreme ambition was noted by his superiors. Like Laurence, Josef secretly despised the fear of the old blood, and thought that the use of both insight and the blood would lead to humanity’s ascension. He conducted secret experiments with the blood behind closed doors behind the backs of his peers. When the split between Byrgenwerth and the Healing Church occurred, however, Josef chose to stay publicly loyal to the school out of fear that the Church would not succeed and he would be left with nothing. However, his fascination with the old blood never left him. So he continued his studies, while watching the Healing Church grow ever larger with power and influence, and regretting the day that he stayed behind. He now dreams of one day joining the higher ranks of the Choir, and leading humanity into its future. Until then, he is but a lowly scholar with lofty dreams and ambitions.

Name:Lt. Sigmund Jannesson van Kataryn, of the 208th Mobile Medical Post, and by extension, the 34th Infantry Battalion. Affectionately known as “Doc” or “Doc Sig”.
Gender or Sex: Male
Age: 42

Class: The Determinator The Haunted “Eh, some new face in town. Says ‘e’s a doc from the War. Hardly touches Blood, can ya believe it?”
“Heard ‘e’s from the outskirts, all th’ way from Kataryna.”
“The blokes who “chase th’ son” or somesuch? He’ll get in right trouble wi’ the Church.”
“Strange thing is, he isn’t, oft’n pitches in at the medical wards whenever they’re short on staff. He knows all sorts o’ stuff ‘bout medicine without usin’ blood. If he weren’t always buttin’ ‘eads with th’ head doctors o’er when ta’ use Blood, I’d reckon he’d be in Byrgenwerth.”
“Odd fellow tha’ Sigmund...an odd duck indeed…”
(Civilian)
Personality: Jovial and upbeat, he is seen as a stalwart source of sunny disposition in an otherwise bleak city. Rather down to earth, he would rather spend a night at the tavern gambling or exercising rather than the cloak and dagger antics of Yharnam, and will often be seen as a source of fatherly advice and comfort to the downtrodden of people.

Despite his veterancy during the Independence War and his skill in medicine, his relationship with the Healing Church is...complicated. On one hand, he is a follower of the Covenant of Solestus, the deities worshipped by those residing outside of Yharnam during the War and the days of Cainhurst, often referred to as the Ancient Ones or the True Gods, so he is considered an apostate by the more fanatic members of the Church. Sigmond in turn views the over-use of Blood as stymieing medical progress, rather than aiding the downtrodden to live healthy lifestyles, and feels uneasy in the various chapels of the Healing Church. Nevertheless, the few who know him cannot deny his compassion for the ailed and needy, nor his skill in medicine outside of Blood Ministration. Some of the more cynical residents of the city disdain his charitable nature, and residing in squalor along with the ne’er do wells.

Through interaction with him, one can reveal more about life outside of Yharnam, about his life as a family doctor in a decent sized but well knit town. His service, and shenanigans of soldiers. With luck, and if he is in a particularly good mood on a rather cold, may even tell you the time about how he played shuffleboard using a group of Cainhurst Flaymen during a frigid northern winter.

Despite his jovial nature, he often spends time alone with scholars and clerics, discussing medicine, swapping stories and small talk, or just napping. Modern psychologists would diagnose the Katarynan with mild narcolepsy and a most unusual form of PTSD. His nightmares rarely involve the men who died around him, or the experiences of the war. If he had to hazard a guess, Sigmond received this after...encountering…something he’s certainly not talking about.
Backstory: Born in the County of Kataryna, near the border of Cainhurst proper and Austorea, Sigmond was the eldest and sole son of Dr. Jannes Zelig van Kataryn, former physician for the Count and Countess of Kataryna, of whose jolly and charitable nature left a profound impact upon the young Zigmond. Due to Kataryna’s proximity to Cainhurst, and the tumultuous nature of the times, many Blood Knights rode through the city, often placing it under occupation as they rode to dispatch rebels and ride over to the Eastern Campaign. Frustrated with the occupation of his home village, and enthralled by the revolutionary pamphlets that were dispersed in secret, Sigmond eventually snuck away from his home to join the Yharnamite Army.

His knowledge of medicine earned him a spot on one of the many medical outfits needed to keep the army sustained, and his proximity to the front lines meant that he would have his hands full.

Rumors of foul beasts, frenzied riders butchering all in their path, and illicit rituals calling upon heinous powers of blood and shadow would find their way down to the home front. This was in one part used as religious propaganda by the budding Church, denounced as heresy, and considered classified information.

He returned home a changed man in many ways. For one thing, he had a shiny medal and a decent pension for his services, and for the fact he survived much of the war. For another, he became...distant, brooding, and solitary. Sigmond’s nights were filled with tumultuous dreams and hallucinations, whose intensity eventually died down through prayer and interacting with the community once again. Now they became less intense, but more consistent. They became less of good memories gone horrendously wrong, of half-dead comrades laughing while bleeding, and dancing in their own gore. Silently, did the skyline of Yharnam linger in his mind night after night.

While not wholly a man who believes in soothsaying or dreams, a mix of faith for the Ancient Flame and curiosity for closure caused him to seek out Byrgenwerth and the old City.

Sub/Optional Negotiable Ability that can be deleted if need be: Pluck Ultra.
Some men shit their pants at the sight of a Great Old One, others tell them to eat said shit and kick them in the gonads. The frightening does not faze this man, and in fact, rushes him with adrenaline. Whether this be from idealistic courage, iron discipline, or because he knows that there are far more dangerous things above him…
Other Sub/Optional Negotiable Ability that can be deleted if need be:
Combat Comfort: From patching someone up on the battlefield, to encouraging them off it, for whatever reason, this man says that the world’s troubles are “as big as you make them to be”. Somehow, you almost believe him.

Equipment:Possibly his old repeating rifle/gun he kept from the war, and a medicine kit, as well as various textbooks pertaining to medicine, a small pendant of a blazing sun, a medal for valorous service, along with a photo of his old outfit before being deployed (he’s the farthest one on the left, bottom row)
Appearance:Sigmond is a rather stout individual, not nearly as tall as he’d like to be, with stormy grey eyes and paling blonde hair. He keeps himself stockily fit, but age and a few nights at the Tavern has made him slightly pudgy. When he speaks, it is a pleasantly accented baritone, mingling learned vocabulary with almost whimsical phrases and adages. When amused, it can range from a sly and sardonic chuckle to a bellowing bark, though when ired, that same bellowing will only be laced with as many adjectives and pronouns as it takes to kill an enemy, or for you to do your job.

Backstory: A man from beyond the Continent, Calium traveled to Yarhem to find the great secrets of the great city for a cause he had forgot. He joined Wilhelm's university as a means to understand the very questions of life for this cause and to go home but he was caught in the search for the Truth. It was here that he shunned the Healing Church and try to continue his research into the insight and to try to line his mind with eyes. While many took the sayings literally, he tried to study it via philosophical means and to understand the cosmic beings as their insight is a path to apotheosis. It was because of this that he looked into the use of arcane truths and powers that the old texts had and focused on joining the team to translate them.

He believes it was because of this and his understanding of lore that he was hired to figure out about the disappearance of the people. This Cult was among the most mysterious thing to happen to the grand city and it seemed like a good idea to try and line eyes in his mind and ascend to the cosmos.

Gender or Sex: Male
Age: 54
Class: The Hunter
Personality: Darius is very rough around the edges. He’s a drunk, and what many would consider a bum. He has anger issues, he’s suicidal (to some mild degree), and is known to be more bitter than a lime. He despises the typical technique and finesse of hunters, instead preferring a direct and brutal approach to killing. He also despises the church, only being a hunter for the sake of having some kind of job.
Backstory: Darius was born to poor farmers. He spent the first ten years of his life on a farm, working the fields with his father. However, he grew tired of the lifestyle and ran away from home, seeking a new life. He found this new life in mercenary work. At first, the life did not work out him. He was unable to get used to the life of combat. And then, one day, he happened upon a rather famous warrior, who took him under his wing. The man thought Darius everything he knew, bestowing upon him knowledge of wielding many weapons, and utilizing these weapons in many ways. By the age of 20, Darius had become a rather well known merc, with a reputation for his skill proceeding him. He married at age 27 to a young woman named Miriam, and the two had a daughter named Lisbeth around a year later. Then came the dawning of Darius’ life, the time that would change him forever.

The independence war began, with the promise of more action and wealth for the soldiers who joined. He didn’t hesitate to join the military, promising to return home a famed soldier. During his time in the military, Darius witnessed many horrors, and many battles. He reached the rank of captain in his time on the front lines. However, in his time away, his wife and daughter died of circumstances unknown to Darius. He returned home to find his family gone. He never saw his family again after that fateful day he left. Darius spiraled into a deep depression. He attempted to drink himself to death, started brawls, did everything he in his to end his own life slowly. 20 years he remained in his misery, until a friend from the military came to him, and told him of how he had found salvation in tinge church. The man extended an offer to join a group known as the hunters, a group that could use Darius and his many talents. Realizing that he had nothing better to do than to toil away and die forgotten, Darius accepted.

Name: Ianto Voyles
Gender or Sex: Male
Age: 28

Class: The Skeptic
Personality: Curious and Independent thinker, Ianto is curious about learning subjects he is interested in and loves very much to uncover more about the space in particular. Though he was avid follower of his faith, he is not a blind follower of it and only follows a idea or cause that he personally can agree with or follow willingly.

Backstory: Ianto is from the Kingdom of Ceredigion that is located significantly away from Yharnam to the southwest of the city. The kingdom was not involved in the Independence War due to the war being far from the conflict. Ceredigion itself has been called a odd kingdom for its rulers are elected for their ability and even those with blood ties to past kings and queens are treated as equals to the rest of the candidates for the throne. Even the nobility favor ability over blood and sometimes when a noble house is proven incompetent in their responsibilities. They are replaced by a family that is more capable and often times from a non-noble family.

Ianto was the first of four children to Berian and Delyth Voyles. Berian a inventive gunsmith who runs a successful gun shop near the capital of Ceredigion and Delyth a sightly eccentric painter who is known throughout Ceredigion for her art. Ianto like his family, is a follower of his nations's religion called the Faith of Vahekhi. Worshiping a group of demi-gods and the Faith has barely has expanded outside of Ceredigion. Growing up, Ianto started to develop a interest stars though his mother's paintings. His mother would often be inspired from the night sky and even draw celestial pieces from her own imagination. Her paintings started to make Ianto want to learn more about the night sky that inspire his mother and eventually grew into a passion for astronomy.

In his teens, Ianto worked for his father in the family gun shop and was taught by his father about the how to be a gunsmith. Even briefly taking over the shop for a time when he was eighteen after his father was came down with a illness. After he graduated from a local university, he spent years in observatories learning more about the stars and even discovered a new star. Around a month ago, he received a oddly worded message from a high-ranking scholar of the Byrgenwerth Institution about how a unusually long lunar eclipse Ianto studied could be related to his research. Ianto was skeptical to how the eclipse could be realted to the scholar research but, agreed to meet the scholar and when he finally arrived at the scholar's current residence in a small village. He discovered that the scholar was dead in his study from seemly self-inflicted wounds. Ianto searched the scholars study for clues to what could have caused the scholar to apparently kill himself and only found notes there where barely intelligible.

The only information that he could gathered from the notes was that scholar was researching something important and the Byrgenwerth Institution was involved somehow. Disturbed at the possibility of what this scholar was searching for that made him kill himself and what connection the Institution could have to it. Ianto needed answers and went to Yharnam to investigate to what could the Byrgenwerth Institution be looking for.
Attributes Gunsmith, Astronomer
Equipment: Repeating Pistol, scholar clothes, hand-held telescope, a pistol tool kit and a old family penchant that has the Faith of Vahekhi symbol for protection.
(If NCI approves based on the telegrams we had with making my char, the penchant is magical provides protection against corruption. Which the penchant's magic counts the Old Blood used by the Blood Church as such and provides increased resistance from the beast plague. However, makes the wearer incapable of getting any benefits like healing from the blood used by the church and can be a painful process of cleansing the wearer of traces of the old blood if exposed. If the wearer is already infected with blood sickness before wearing the penchant then it only hurts the wearer till it is taken off. Only those with a small amount of old blood in their body that the penchant can cleanse or those that have not gone under the Chruch's Blood Ministration rituals can wear the penchant safely.)

Name: Father Gascoigne
Gender or Sex: Male
Age: 21

Class: Hunter
Personality: A reserved and somewhat quiet yet devout Hunter, Gascoigne enjoys the thrill hunt, and is a rather loyal person.
Backstory: A former priest from another land where he earned the title of "Father", Gascoigne had recently made a pilgrimage to Yarnham to join the Healing Church. What reasons he had are very much kept to himself, though it is possible that he was sick himself, and one who sought treatment. Perhaps, as a Holy Man himself, sought out the Church on the idea of tracking the scent of miracles. Or, as some might think, the lure of the Hunt drew his bloodlust.

Before his time joining the Healing Church, Gascoigne had been, as previously stated, a holy man from a different land, somewhere off in the far west. In the small community he had once been a part of, he was known for his usual quietness yet ability to become an entrancing speaker when he wished to. Other than his priestly duties, he was also one who often participated in community projects, usually the building of homes or working of farms. During his free time, he would often go into the local forests to hunt, and often was the one who brought food to others through such means.

It is known that, as a member of the Church, he, among others, was responsible for the purging of not only the already sickly folks that dwelled throughout Yarnham, but also those who were likely to become infected. Gascoigne in particular became quite adept in his area of work, and has become somewhat renowned amongst the Church for his skills whilst being so fresh among their Hunters.
Attributes
  • Blinded - It is theorized that some members of the Church voluntarily cut out their eyes, either in an attempt to gain insight, or to stop themselves from going mad when viewing any of the Great Ones, or something similar in nature to either of the two.
  • Enhanced Senses - From his blindness, Gascoigne's other senses grew greatly keen on order to compensate for his lack of eyesight. His sense of smell, especially, is quite sharp.
Equipment:
  • Hunter's Axe
  • Modified Pistol (Shoots similarly to a Blunderbuss)
Appearance: Gascoigne is a rather physically intimidating figure, somewhat tall and decently muscular, with wide shoulders, dressed entirely in black, save for a silvery-white scarf around his neck, but otherwise clad in a long coat, a vest, a button-up shirt, some trousers tucked into boots, and a wide brimmed hat and gauze wrapped around his head to obscure his eyes. His hair is a brown colour, somewhat long, with a short, somewhat wild beard.
