Taking advantage of the natural uneven terrain, the Healing Church designed the location with the ritual of Scala Sancta in mind. During the early days of the Choir, Laurence purchased a decaying church and converted it into Oedon Chapel; over the next decade and half, the mass income brought in by tithes and other hidden ventures led to the Ward's expansion.

Well, Bloodborne had a pretty strong showing despite it being a PS4 exclusive. Soulsborne fans aregluttons for punishmentcommitted like that.
As for the RP, I was wondering what degree of freedom we're allowed for our characters? Can we app as a Cainhurst Vileblood for the hunter class for example? Or as a Church Executioner for the Devout class etc?

As of now, Vilebloods don't exist yet. Lore seems to indicate that they rose to prominence during the Healing Church Hunters phase. However you can be a hunter secretly working for Cainhurst, maybe you're the one who gives them the secrets to Blood Ministration.
Executioners are fine as a Devout Class.

I got ahead of myself in terms of the timeline there then lol. I thought Maria had been a Vileblood due to her Cainhurst origins and blood based attacks in the Old Hunters DLC, so I assumed they were active already.
Good to know though. I'm leaning towards apping as a Church character in that case then.

I'm playing Maria so I better know this lol. It appears in lore that Vilebloods are a specific affiliation within canon that refer to Knights that Hunt other Hunters for their hunt, they would bring the blood back to their Queen.
Cainhurst Knights have existed for however long, Vilebloods are relatively new, a few decades at most. Because the Church tasked the Executioners to hunt them, with no emphasis on stealth, it implies that this is under the leadership of Ludwig. So you can play as someone who is from Cainhurst, but not a file blood if that makes sense.
Also FromSoftware really sucks at names, so do you want to be an Executioner, those with gold pyramid heads, or Church Executioner, the people who wore white and brandished giant axes. They guard Ludwig in the Hunters Dream.
Edit: Alfred specifies Byrgenwerth not the Healing Church as the place where the Knights got the secret formula. So if you want, I'll use that as an excuse to allow for you to use them.

Anyway, that makes sense. The lore can get hard to sort out due to the narrative structure of the Soulsborne games, so I could see where the discrepancies come from, especially when it relates to the timeline. I just finished the game and the DLC one week ago, so that Lady Maria bit was still fresh in my mind.
As for the Executioner bit, I was referring to the coneheads with the giant wheels serving under Grandmaster Logarius. I didn't even know the big white clad guys with the axes had a confusingly similar name.
Unless something changes, I'll most likely app as one of the Executioners under Logarius (cuz I want my cone helmet and wheel ) if that's fine. I just inquired about the Vileblood bit to offer clarifications and potentially leave the door open to other players.
