He was the eldest child of his father, a practicing defense lawyer, and his mother, a stay at home mom, along with two younger sisters. When he was a teenager, he got into politics, becoming president of his student body for his junior and senior year and was a key member of the debate team.
Barry graduated from high school with flying colors and eventually went to UNC and got a bachelors in Criminal Justice. He then went to Harvard Law School in order to get his law degree. He graduated law school in 1986 and moved back to Greensboro, where he was eventually accepted to the bar as a defense attorney, much like his dad. After 2 terms as mayor, he stepped down in order to run for the House of Representatives. Chalmers was elected to the U. S. House of Representatives for North Carolina’s 13th Congressional district in 2008. Around this time, his views began shifting, he believed that marriage should be classified as between a man and a woman, saying in an interview that “as you know, I was quite moderate on the tone at first, but then I realized that religious freedom needs to be defended, and that we shall no longer tolerate things that infringe on religious freedom.” He also supported more funding for charter schools and was one of the few democrats to have an A rating from the NRA. He served 2 terms as a representative until 2012, when he ran for Attorney General of North Carolina as a Democrat, winning the primary by less than a percent and eventually went on to win the election with a margin of 3%.
Less than a year into his career as Attorney General, Chalmers switched parties to the republicans. Saying in an interview with CNN “The Democratic Party has abandoned the people of North Carolina and have gotten out of touch with the people.” As attorney general, he defended the state of North Carolina in a case against North Carolina’s Congressional Districts which have been called gerrymandered. He ran for Governor of North Carolina at the end of his term as Attorney General, winning in a landslide in the primary and by 13% in the General Election. As Governor, he has supported charter school funding and gun rights as well as defending North Carolina’s congressional map, saying “It has been over exaggerated of how this map favors a party. Throw a Democrat in there, and I may bite - presuming it would be fine with the OPs, considering I am already at the limit. I am sorely in need of a Democrat.

Main Strengths: Decades of experience, adored by many due to his POW story
Main Weaknesses: establishment politician, very poor hearing, easily manipulated if one presses the right buttons, poor speaker, although he is trying to improve
Biography: Sam Havich was born in Dallas, Texas, on January 23rd, 1933. His childhood was fairly uneventful, as he was born to a middle-class urban family, one of thousands, if not millions, in Texas. In 1956, he joined the U.S. Air Force as a fighter pilot, just as the Vietnam War was heating up. In 1962, he was sent to Vietnam, and served there for most of the war, before being shot down over North Vietnam and held in captivity for the last 7 years of the war. His experiences as a POW varied widely, going from easy to brutal. His time in 'nam has had a profound impact on his political views, resulting in him becoming a closet atheist, a fact that only his close friends and relatives (including Buck).
After coming home from the war, Sam decided to enter politics, disgruntled by American foreign policy. Sam was elected to the Texas State Senate, a young, moderate Republican destined for greater things. After a decade in Texas politics, Sam used his connetions to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, winning by a large margin in the 7th Congressional District election in 1984.
Then, the death of his wife, with a heart attack following soon after, happened, and Sam's future in politics stagnated. He lost most, if not all, of his luster, becoming one of hundreds of Republican backbenchers always voting along the party line. This led to him being considered much more conservative than he had been in the beginning of his political career. He largely lost his voice in the party, and his opinion, simply going with the whip, or not voting at all on the bills where there was no whip. Sam kept on winning elections, however, purely due to the Republican machine in Texas.
That all changed in 2016, with his great-nephew, Buck Havich, becoming VP. Seeing lil' Jr., as Sam liked to call Buck, go so far have him new energy, and a new sense of purpose. He now votes more regularly, and brings more originality to the House chamber, but still has some ways to go.
Other Info: Typical conservative Rep, although he believes in LGBT rights. Great-uncle of Buck Havich. Due to him slumbering for decades, he's lost much of his speaking abilities, although he is taking lessons to get better.

A UCSO walked up to an application stand
And he said to the OP, running the stand
"Hey! (Bump bump bump) Got any time?"
The OP said
"No, no time
But I got some Lemonade
And it's fresh
And it’s all home-made. Can I get you
Glass?"
The UCSO said,
“I’ll pass”.
Then he waddled away.

'Til the very next day.

It is indeed a very well-done application, excellent work. A handful of comments:
1. Is this a product of specific actions or policies of his, or simply his partisanship and party? For a Republican, this is not a significant weakness.
2. I would recommend adding a skill-based weakness of some sort, speaking, negotiating, administrating, or some such thing.
3. He would still be very young at this point, thirty-three, and without any previous political or administrative experience behind his run, with a legal career not translating especially well into a Mayorship. I would recommend either having him make a run a City Council at this age, and run for Mayor in his early forties, aging him if need be, or setting aside the Mayorship, as he already has three major political positions on record, and perhaps setting him up in the state legislature prior to his run for the House.
4. Had he previously endorsed same-sex unions?
5. This would likely be a larger margin. In-RP, 2016 was a major wave election for Republicans. However, if you wish to have him as a somewhat contentious figure, you may certainly keep this margin.
A well-done application.

I don’t really understand the first comment, can you expand a bit?

Of course. Minorities, and African-Americans in particular, which I presume you were referring to given the demographics of North Carolina, are heavily Democrat-leaning, and Republicans rarely garner significant support or are particularly popular with that community. It is thus something of "par for the course" as a weakness, something that could apply to any Republican, but I was asking whether there was anything in particular he had done, said, planned, or promised that was the reason for his lack of popularity, or if it was the standard reasons applying to most all Republicans.

Biography: (Minimum 2-3 paragraphs) Born on May 18th, 1961 to an upper middle class family in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Barry’s family moved when he was three to Greensboro, North Carolina.
As a defense attorney, he was known for casting doubt on evidence, sometimes through extremely controversial ways.
After practicing law for 8 years, Chalmers ran for a city council spot in 1994 and eventually mayor of Greensboro under the Democratic Party in 2000, he narrowly won the primary and defeated his republican opponent by 5%, and then eventually re-elected with 9%. As mayor, he was famous for being a more Conservative Democrat and had several tough on crime positions, cracking down on drug abuse. He also was known for expanding the economy of Greensboro, winning a bid for General Electric to build a factory in Greensboro. He was also known for his more moderate tone on same sex marriage, saying in an interview “I believe it should be up to the states to decide the matter, while I personally do disagree with homosexuality, I believe that if the states see it as alright, it should be alright.”
After 2 terms as mayor, Chalmers was elected to the U.
Overall, there is no issue with our congressional map.”
