Gotham, simply the name itself brings to mind two words Batman and Crime. In recent years Gotham had started to become better, more peaceful. Needless to say it was a far cry from the city that Batman first appeared in to defend from the seedy underbelly. The Penguin seemingly gave up his life of crime and now runs the Iceberg Lounge, one of Gothams high end clubs, he also has been dabbling in local politics. Several of Batmans other villains have left for their own reasons, though some still stayed in Gotham. People have been moving to the city, and its economy has picked up a bit, though there is still a wide disparity between the citizens. Gotham was finally becoming a good place, though not everyone thought or thinks so.

Yet, while the Gotham seems peaceful, the people of Gotham have become unease. Batman has left Gotham to take part in the Justice League. In his place, a new generation of young heros have taken up the cause to fight crime. Lead by the Tim Drake Robin, this new team of young supers, the Disciples of Batman, have already made a name for themselves. Outside of Robin's team, other heros have also risen, forming their own teams or going solo. Many have taken the same calling as the Disciples of Batman, while others have taken a more violent road to fight crime.

However, as always with heros, there are villians to challenge them. Crime is slowly on the rise after it's decline during Batman's crusade. A new generation of Villains have risen from the shadows. Young troublemakers inspired by Gotham's most famous rogues have made a name for themselves, wrecking havoc on the city. Meanwhile, the old villians have returned. Two-Face, Riddler, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, Killer Croc, and others have been taking advantage of a Batman-less Gotham. Some even taking in the new generation of Villains into their gangs. Only Joker have seemed to have vanished from the Earth, with Crime only being fun with Batman to challenge him

Nonetheless, this rising factions of new heros and villians have begun to make Gotham once again a ticking time bomb of chaos...

Hello and welcome to the OOC Thread for Gotham: the Coming Storm, As you might guess by the name, this is a superhero rp set in the DC universe, and Gotham city in particular. While this is mostly an original Idea, it was inspired by excellent RPs by Personal Freedom, called the New Gotham and Gotham: The Coming Storm by Shadowwell (The latter I borrowed some of the OOC OP from to help because I'm still not good at making these) , this is only loosely similar but hopefully conveys its spirit well. You can be a Hero or villain, Original character or DC. You can have connections to existing DC heroes or villains, or create and entirely original one. If you do play a DC character, try to play them well, If I or my co-op’s deem you unworthy you may be booted from the character. While i do have a general idea of the Plot and characters, it will be open ended for the most part. Will any of you answer the Call?

The Rules

  • You can be an OC or almost anyone in the DC universe.
While you can make your own character, which I highly encourage the nature of the rp gives you many pre-existing characters to play as. Batman has a huge rogues gallery of colorful and unique villians and DC comics has plenty of heros to offer. You can be any one of them if you like. The only exceptions being Batman, the Joker, Superman and any character I may see as being too OP. I also reserve the Scarecrow, my personal favorite, for myself.

Check out this Wiki, to help you if wish to learn about Batman and Gotham lore.
  • Decisions
This is mostly a sandbox rp. So you are free to make your own stories and arcs within the Universe. Your arc may very fall into my ideas for story and get caught into my arcs. That being said, my word and the word of anyone I appoint as a Co-OP is binding. If you don’t like a decision, I will, of course, have a look at it. Once. If I made a decision you don’t like, complaining for pages and pages is not going to endear you to me.
  • Post Quality
I don’t have a beef with short posts but please use proper spelling (I don’t care what regional variant), grammar etc, and make it at least a paragraph or two.
  • Posting Commitment: Nothing is worse than making an RP only for it to die. Therefore, I ask that players make at least one post every 72 hours. If you find yourself unable to post, please let me know in the OOC thread.
  • Posting Speed On the flip side, blitz posting can also be infuriating. So, esepically during arcs and interactions, I recommend giving your fellow players time to post within a reasonable time. We all have real lives. If a player is unable to post within 72 hours, then it would be safe to post by them. Just keep interactions nice and smooth and easy to catch up on.
  • OOC Manners
Swearing, passive-aggressive sniping or any other rude behaviour is not welcome on the OOC. I will warn you once. If you can’t control yourself I will ask you to remove yourself from the thread till you cool off.
  • IC Manners
Remember, we are writing a story, not playing to win. If I think you are writing your character as overpowered I will ask you to tone it down.
  • Character Death
Player death is possible in this RP, though will be quite rare and easily avoidable, but please don’t write that you have killed another character unless you have OOC permission from the character's owner to do it. Beat them into a pulp or take them prisoner, but don’t kill them. Having said that, if someone does something really stupid, I reserve the right to announce your character has got themselves killed. Likewise, if someone goes inactive in the middle of a fight scene without explanation and cannot be raised I may decide to kill their character off.
  • Keep it PG13
Shouldn’t need to be telling you this really but keep the erotica and gorn off the thread. Hopefully you all know how to write forum-safe stuff by now. I will be extremely disappointed if the mods have to pay us a visit.
  • Banning Players
I really don’t want to be doing that but reserve the right to if you cannot follow the (hopefully, rather simple) rules above.

Places Of Note

Wayne Manor: After Bruce Wayne left Gotham, the home of the Wayne Family was left in the hands of Tim Drake. Using the Bat Cave, the manor had become the secret residence and place of operations for the Disciple of Batman in their fight against crime. Alfred Pennyworth continues his duty as butler, serving the heirs of Batman's legacy in his name.

Iceberg Lounge: a high end club owned and operated by Oswald Cobblepot, While it mostly has a high-end clientele, that is merely the tip of the Iceberg. Below the surface in the Lower levels, less scrupulous things take place. High, high stakes gambling rings, and fighting pits, though the latter is only on occasion. For the most part though it is still an upscale club, and the criminal activity is kept separate and in a highly secured area from the actual club.

Gotham Botanical Gardens: Currently the only operating Botanical Garden in Gotham after the last one was burned down after a freek accident involving poisonous spore emitting plants, that had accidentally been crossbred.

GCPD HQ : GCPD HQ is still the same as ever, except for a few additions like an improved garages and parking lot and an expansion for more police officers ever since the new mayor decided to spent money more on the law enforcement of the city after Batman has left. With the rise of new superheroes in the population of Gotham, the GCPD has been looking to recruiting members to the force to help combat new villians.

Arkham Asylum : The madhouse of Gotham. Since Batman leaving the city, the Asylum has had yet another period of break outs. In response, Gotham mayor hired Strokes Paramilitary, led by Deathstroke who has been semi-retired from the business of assassination and mercenary, who turned the asylum into a privatized prison with maximum security and with full cooperation with GCPD. With the rise of young villians in the city, a new wing has been constructed as a Juvenile Correction Center as highly secured as the rest of the facility, but with far less brutal tactics to keep order.

Wayne Enterprises: Since the sudden "disappearance" of Bruce Wayne, Lucius Fox has crrently taken control of Wayne Enterprises. While it has been doing as well as ever, recently rumors have been cropping up. Mr. Fox hasn't been looking well lately, not exactly unexpected of someone of his experience. As Fox's visage gets more sickly more rumors of a possible take over have been surfacing.

Others to be added.

Districts of Gotham and the Places within
Image

(will edit the districts to compliment the map later)
Otisburg: The district in the North of Gotham, holds many smaller enterprises local to gotham as well as a few outside branches.

Burnley: The district in the center of Gotham has a Brdige connecting it to Arkham Island and it runs through Otisburg briefly. Contains Gotham university and general hospital. Also houses Bruisers Gym

East End: The part of gotham most ripe with crime and corruption.

Old Gotham: One of the Oldest parts of the city, contains the City hall and main HQ for the GCPD.

Diamond district: the wealthiest district of Gotham contains the main businesses and some of gothams elite.

Robinson Park: the main recreational park of the city.

Blackgate Isle: The location for Blackgate penitentiary located opposite Arkham Asylum.

Bristol County: One of the most outlying districts of Gotham, only contains Wayne Manor as well as several similar places that have been abandoned for decades

Factions

The Disciples of Batman

The new heroes of Gotham City, the Disciples of Batman are the most well known. Following the ways of Batman to bring criminals to justice, they avoid lethal weapons, bringing them in alive than dead. With Tim Drake as their leader and halls of Wayne Manor as their base, the Disciples of Batman is open to all inspired by the Caped Crusader to protect Gotham from evil.

The Gang of Freaks

One of the largest gangs in Gotham, this nasty bunch welcome all the mutated outcasts of society. They have made their appearance first about three years ago and have been causing great problems for the city ever since. Robbery, arson, drug trafficking, and causing all around mayhem. Their most sophisticated crimes indicate they working for someone. The GCPD have been working with the Disciples in investigations.

The Followers of the Hood

Led the by the legendary Red Hood, formally the second Robin, these vigilantes have been fighting a bloody war on Crime. Sworn to protect Gotham at all costs, the Followers have left countless dead criminals in their wake. Whether it be with gun, the sword or the club, they show no mercy to the scum of Gotham. In recent days, their war against the Gang of Freaks have flared up. However, they have also made enemies of both The Disciples of Batman and the GCPD as well.

The Order of Reapers

A series of gruesome murders though out Gotham, and at the center of it all, a group of fanatics calling themselves “the order.” This “order” took root in Gotham soon after the Batman began protecting Gotham. They considered him to be an evildoer, commiting harm on others, despite the fact that they’re criminals. Soon after they’re formation, the began acting as they’re own vigilante group, killing indiscriminately in the name of “peace.” They’ve killed a few major figures in Gotham, from politicians, to police chiefs, to minor heroes and villains.

So would we be allowed to play as the established "Old Villians"? Or are we more encouraged to just make a new villain and roll with whatever crew we want?

Did you read the rules? It's the very first one. You can be any pre-existing character except for Joker, Batman and the OP characters such as Superman. I am reserving Scarecrow for myself

However, I do encourage new character.

How long is this set after the DC universe's "present day"? Also, would it be okay if I made Poison Ivy dead in my character's backstory? I envisioned her as Ivy's sort-of "successor", though with slightly different abilities and goals.

Consider this about five years after present day or fifteen years after Batman began his career.

And I don't think so. Poison Ivy can have an apprentice of sorts though

Villain APP:
Name/Alias: Edward Nygma, The Riddler
Age: 35
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Image

Personality:
Edward prides himself on his intelligence and isn't afraid to constantly point out the many ways he is smarter than everyone. He can get a bit cocky and narcissistic, which can lead him to being overconfident with his plans and miss that one detail that could ruin everything. For the most part Edward is willing to work with others if they show any level of competence, but he is quick to help himself if he thinks the team up is a bad idea.
Affiliation: Himself
Race: Homo Sapien
Backstory:
An enigma wrapped inside a conundrum, that is how Edward Nygma would describe himself. As a man of heightened intelligence, he puts himself at a higher standard than the other criminals of Gotham. Originally Edward started out a programmer in one of Gotham's major companies and definitely one of the hardest workers. His genius was underappreciated of course and his boss took credit for his work every time he made breakthrough. Eventually, Edward got tired of the abuse and decided to get revenge on the company.

Using his unnatural obsession with riddles and puzzles, Edward trapped his former boss in a death trap that could only be disarmed if someone solved the puzzles. Confident that no one would, but still not satisfied with his revenge, he also hacked the company's financial account to transfer all of its' money to his offshore account if the puzzles were solve. That way, even if Edward's boss lived through the whole event, his business would be ruined. Batman eventually did come to rescue the greedy CEO, but failed to find out about the backup hack until Edward mentioned it in a riddle during his capture.

After spending some time in prison, and then breaking out easily, Edward adopted the identity of The Riddler in order to test Batman's mental prowess and occasionally attack greedy businesses who abuse their workforce. The fact that there could be someone smarter than him is a challenge to Riddler, and Batman is one of the best opponents he could have asked for.

Powers/Weapons/Tech: A steel question mark can with a variety of trick. Mainly used as a remote to interact with one of Riddler's traps, a hacking device, or a weapon to defend himself.
Weaknesses: Nygma has an obsession with proving that he's the smartest person in Gotham and always leaves behind some sort of riddle or clue at his crime scene, often foiling a perfect plan.
Skills: A genius-level intellect, excellent detective skills, and an escapologist.

RP Examples: One in my sig, and here's one, and another one, just in case.

Extra Information
Day Job: N/A
Living place: Somewhere in Gotham City
Voice Actor: Wally Wingert
Likes/Dislikes: Likes riddles, puzzles, and proving he's the smartest. Dislikes Batman and all the heroes that get in his way
