Villain APP:
Name/Alias: Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn
Age: 29
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Personality: Kooky, crazy, silly, outgoing, eccentric, quirky - whatever you would like to call it. She enjoys behaving weirdly to the extent that 'normal' could be considered an insult. She deviates between two crafted personalities, 'Harleen Quinzel' and 'Harley Quinn', the latter of which is usually the more dominant though most of the time she behaves as a mix of the two. Harleen is the more serious, well-behaved and moral side of while Harley is the clown princess that everyone knows and loves. Although she is a highly intelligent individual she masks this through her generally ditzy behaviour and a strong (put-on) New York accent. Despite some obvious antisocial inclinations she is not a psychopath or without empathy and does have her own twisted sense of right and wrong. She finds it easy to mimic the behaviour of other more assertive personalities such as the Joker and is at risk of becoming emotionally dependent on and dominated by those types of people.
Affiliation: Nobody since the Joker disappeared.
Race: Human.
Backstory: Born Harleen Quinzel in Brooklyn, New York to a Jewish family. Harleen was the oldest child of four and the only girl. Her father was a drunkard and abusive to herself, her siblings and her mother (that is, when he wasn't in prison). The Quinzel household was greatly chaotic and left Harleen striving for a neat and orderly life. She became fascinated by criminal psychology and craved an answer to her question: why do people go to such great lengths to hurt themselves and the people that they love? After graduating high school she attended Gotham University on a gymnastic scholarship where she studied to become a psychiatrist. She fancied herself as someone capable of fixing and restoring order to a broken mind.
Harleen was an extremely gifted student and flew through her studies at G.U., quickly working her way up and had her M.D. by the age of 24. Working with ordinary people and their uninteresting problems (phobias, anxiety, etc.) quickly bored her and she craved to work with much more exciting, extreme personalities. Thus she was assigned as an intern to the infamous Arkham Asylum. Her calling was realised, amongst the many infamous killers, psychopaths and supervillains, but one case in particular began to catch her eye more than any other - an unknown individual, who went by 'the Joker'. His personality attracted her, his mental state attracted her, the things that he had done attracted her. The Joker was unique, and Harleen strived to understand and hopefully help him. They conversed frequently on a variety of topics in an effort to understand the man behind the makeup, his charisma and intelligence surprising her. Soon enough it was him taking turns analysing her personality instead, helping diagnose her problems and offering solutions. An insane man and a reasoned man existed at times simultaneously, which further fascinated her. He gave Harleen a pet name, a play on words due to how her name seemed similar to the word harlequin - 'Harley Quinn'. She was falling for him and by the time she was aware of this it was too late. After being confronted by her superiors who expressed their concerns that Harleen had overstepped the doctor-patient boundary and distressed by rumours that either she or Joker could be moved to Belle Reve to separate them, she donned a costume and assisted the Joker in breaking out of the asylum. Harley Quinn was born.
The Joker and Harley Quinn became an inseparable pair, an infamous crime-causing duo feared throughout Gotham. Despite her obvious affections for the Joker these were mostly ignored by him, preferring to use her as another tool against his own primary fascination - the Batman. Batman quickly became the enemy of both of them, Harley seeing Batman as the main obstacle to the Joker settling down and retiring from his life of crime, while the underlying Harleen saw Batman as the driving force behind his destructive behaviour. But when Batman left, so did the Joker. One day he simply vanished, having lost his passion for crime with Batman gone. Leaving her alone Harley at first wandered like a broken compass, eventually remembering herself and recovering an independent identity. Harleen and Harley have blended, becoming one and the same and she is comfortable as both. Harleen is the psychiatrist by day, and Harley the law-breaking villain by night.
Powers/Weapons/Tech:
- Big hammer.
- Immunity to toxins and poisons thanks to Poison Ivy.
- Harleen is a mentally damaged individual from a broken home. Her time spent with the Joker led to her forging her 'Harley Quinn' persona, her dominant personality. She has somewhat recovered since the Joker has gone, regaining her independence and allowing 'Harleen' to return, her current personality a mixture of the two. Certain individuals and memories can trigger one personality or the other.
- Dependent personality disorder. She is at risk of becoming dependent on others for her emotional needs, in turn becoming increasingly loyal to them oft to the point of infatuation. She was freed of the Joker's influence not by herself but by him, getting bored once Batman left Gotham and eventually vanishing without a trace. Harley's mental state has improved in his absence, although there is a risk that she could find someone else to fill the emotional vacuum left by the Joker.
- Adept at hand-to-hand combat and a variety of firearms.
- Skilled gymnast after years of practice.
- Likes to sing.
- MD in psychiatry and is good at analysing others and their mental deficiencies while purposefully ignoring her own.
