Gotham, simply the name itself brings to mind two words Batman and Crime. In recent years Gotham had started to become better, more peaceful. Needless to say it was a far cry from the city that Batman first appeared in to defend from the seedy underbelly. The Penguin seemingly gave up his life of crime and now runs the Iceberg Lounge, one of Gothams high end clubs, he also has been dabbling in local politics. Several of Batmans other villains have left for their own reasons, though some still stayed in Gotham. People have been moving to the city, and its economy has picked up a bit, though there is still a wide disparity between the citizens. Gotham was finally becoming a good place, though not everyone thought or thinks so.
Yet, while the Gotham seems peaceful, the people of Gotham have become unease. Batman has left Gotham to take part in the Justice League. In his place, a new generation of young heros have taken up the cause to fight crime. Lead by the Tim Drake Robin, this new team of young supers, the Disciples of Batman, have already made a name for themselves. Outside of Robin's team, other heros have also risen, forming their own teams or going solo. Many have taken the same calling as the Disciples of Batman, while others have taken a more violent road to fight crime.
However, as always with heros, there are villians to challenge them. Crime is slowly on the rise after it's decline during Batman's crusade. A new generation of Villains have risen from the shadows. Young troublemakers inspired by Gotham's most famous rogues have made a name for themselves, wrecking havoc on the city. Meanwhile, the old villians have returned. Two-Face, Riddler, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, Killer Croc, and others have been taking advantage of a Batman-less Gotham. Some even taking in the new generation of Villains into their gangs. Only Joker have seemed to have vanished from the Earth, with Crime only being fun with Batman to challenge him
Nonetheless, this rising factions of new heros and villians have begun to make Gotham once again a ticking time bomb of chaos...
Hello and welcome to the OOC Thread for Gotham: the Coming Storm, As you might guess by the name, this is a superhero rp set in the DC universe, and Gotham city in particular. While this is mostly an original Idea, it was inspired by excellent RPs by Personal Freedom, called the New Gotham and Gotham: The Coming Storm by Shadowwell (The latter I borrowed some of the OOC OP from to help because I'm still not good at making these) , this is only loosely similar but hopefully conveys its spirit well. You can be a Hero or villain, Original character or DC. You can have connections to existing DC heroes or villains, or create and entirely original one. If you do play a DC character, try to play them well, If I or my co-op’s deem you unworthy you may be booted from the character. While i do have a general idea of the Plot and characters, it will be open ended for the most part. Will any of you answer the Call?
- You can be an OC or almost anyone in the DC universe.
While you can make your own character, which I highly encourage the nature of the rp gives you many pre-existing characters to play as. Batman has a huge rogues gallery of colorful and unique villians and DC comics has plenty of heros to offer. You can be any one of them if you like. The only exceptions being Batman, the Joker, Superman and any character I may see as being too OP. I also reserve the Scarecrow, my personal favorite, for myself.
Check out this Wiki, to help you if wish to learn about Batman and Gotham lore. - Decisions
This is mostly a sandbox rp. So you are free to make your own stories and arcs within the Universe. Your arc may very fall into my ideas for story and get caught into my arcs. That being said, my word and the word of anyone I appoint as a Co-OP is binding. If you don’t like a decision, I will, of course, have a look at it. Once. If I made a decision you don’t like, complaining for pages and pages is not going to endear you to me. - Post Quality
I don’t have a beef with short posts but please use proper spelling (I don’t care what regional variant), grammar etc, and make it at least a paragraph or two. - Posting Commitment: Nothing is worse than making an RP only for it to die. Therefore, I ask that players make at least one post every 72 hours. If you find yourself unable to post, please let me know in the OOC thread.
- Posting Speed On the flip side, blitz posting can also be infuriating. So, esepically during arcs and interactions, I recommend giving your fellow players time to post within a reasonable time. We all have real lives. If a player is unable to post within 72 hours, then it would be safe to post by them. Just keep interactions nice and smooth and easy to catch up on.
- OOC Manners
Swearing, passive-aggressive sniping or any other rude behaviour is not welcome on the OOC. I will warn you once. If you can’t control yourself I will ask you to remove yourself from the thread till you cool off. - IC Manners
Remember, we are writing a story, not playing to win. If I think you are writing your character as overpowered I will ask you to tone it down. - Character Death
Player death is possible in this RP, though will be quite rare and easily avoidable, but please don’t write that you have killed another character unless you have OOC permission from the character's owner to do it. Beat them into a pulp or take them prisoner, but don’t kill them. Having said that, if someone does something really stupid, I reserve the right to announce your character has got themselves killed. Likewise, if someone goes inactive in the middle of a fight scene without explanation and cannot be raised I may decide to kill their character off. - Keep it PG13
Shouldn’t need to be telling you this really but keep the erotica and gorn off the thread. Hopefully you all know how to write forum-safe stuff by now. I will be extremely disappointed if the mods have to pay us a visit. - Banning Players
I really don’t want to be doing that but reserve the right to if you cannot follow the (hopefully, rather simple) rules above.
