I think it goes

Us --> Vale --> Mouth

So 2 days?

Then once I come back with some seeds to farm with, then I can offer people a job to help me farm them in exchange for some profit.

I don't think you can come back with them, because they need the fertile flood-lands of the Mouth to grow.

I'm not building the farm near Farhome, but in the flood-lands.

If I go with you we could grow them together, sell the crop to Ulthar for a profit, and actually be able to pay people rather than give vague promises.

True and I can offer better wages than mining since these are profitable and can help afford a distillery.

The Federation of Kendor wrote:When will you add my character to the roster? Also, is mining or floating timber more profitable? I tried to do a math, and given the distance of going to the Endless Woods to chop tree for timber, I think mining is more profitable for the extra knave

If you have no particular skills, and don't want to venture out into the unknown, mining is certainly more profitable.

Lusela wrote:G-Tech, how much can I sell baskets for? 2 knave like at Ulthar's or could I sell it for 3 knave since work and travel cost? Also if since grass cutting time is cut in half with a scythe would the same go for harvesting indigo? If so then how much would unprocessed indigo sell for by the bushel? surely more than grain

That entire depends who you are selling to- they might pay more, or less. Ultar won't pay more, of course, unless you convince him to raise prices.

As for the indigo, the harvesting process is far more delicate than slicing away with a scythe. That's why it is so time/labor-intensive. Unprocessed indigo will sell for a heap; there is a good reason it is listed as a cash crop in the OP.

ApplePieistan wrote:G-Tech, could you update Ultar’s store to account for what people have already bought, missing NPC colonists for hire, things like that?

Certainly; I'm actually going through and adding/updating things right now.

Pax Nerdvana wrote:All my character will be doing for the next IC week or so is mining, so I'm going to maybe make a post tomorrow, but I don't want to do a bunch of nearly identical posts.

Remember that the mine only requires you work for an eight-hour day; so, if you work sixteen hours total, that leaves you eight hours to do whatever you want after you've put in your shift.

I mean, I have the Endurance and Prospector skill, but I don't know how much day it will take me to walk there and back in total. Of it's two days on total, it won't be profitable compared to mining even with Endurance

Well, the Endless Woods are directly adjacent to the Three Rivers. So, based on your Enduring trait, that should give you a logical timeframe on travel.

When you say low chance of death, do you mean low for someone with the proper equipment, or low chance of death even without?

Oh, that's with proper equipment. If you wander off without, say, food and water, your chances of even making it to the Burning Heights are low. They are in a massive desert, after all.

Hey and how hard would you say it is to set up a farm or house at least in the The Aherrad Plains?

Not too hard, but would most likely take at least 45 Copper Nobles, several weeks, and constant upkeep.

I myself am either going to the Vale or the Mouth, though the Plains don't seem too bad.

The burning part.

Really, everything that burns. No available food or water, fire, lava, volcanoes, death and destruction.

0/10, would not recommend.

They are probably hard to catch, and given their habitat I doubt they provide much meat at all.

Thought about setting up at the Mouth but, a chance of severe floods does not sound good for a permanent farm and the Vale it looks like has floods too. So going to try and settle at the Plains sooner or later.

I thought you wanted to make gunpowder weapons? Why would you use your last expansion point on leeches?

As for the biggest danger in the Burning Heights, it’s probably the ash striders. If we bring a full waterskin and basket of fruit for each of us, food and water won’t be an issue. As for the winds that may blow you off the cliff, just hug a mountain goat when the wind’s blowing too hard. As long as you only climb mountains that aren’t spewing lava at the time, you should be fine in that regard.

EDIT: If you don’t want to fight ash striders, you could always make a whip while I’m making the waterskins.

I think Ash Striders do not try to eat humans but they might bite you if you annoy or hurt them. I think they are a very useful source of food and I will add Leeches much later
