Ethnicity: Mexican

Equipment:
    Clothes:
  • 1x long sleeve flannel shirt
  • 2x work gloves
  • 1x jeans
  • 1x baseball cap
  • 1x set of underclothing
  • 2x converse sneakers
    Weapons:
  • 1x baseball bat, metal
  • 1x pocketknife, in pocket
    Other:

  • foodstuffs to last around three (granola bars, jerky, packets of nuts and raisins, apples)
  • water to last around three days (bottled)
Skills:
  • Novice welder
  • Multilingual (Spanish and English)
  • Rudimentary medical knowledge
  • Fast sprinter
  • Good cook
  • Clean freak
Weaknesses:
  • Easily stressed
  • Not an endurance runner
  • Depressed

Accolades: None
NPC: Yes

Personality: Marty Sanchez, unlike his many brothers and sisters, is a quiet kid whose more keen on watching and observing from afar than charging head first into the problems young adulthood has thrust into his lap. Much like his mentor, Frank Hegland, Marty's a nice guy with a big heart, though the apocalypse has taken a heavy toll on idealists such as himself. Despite Frank's cheery attitude, he feels rather hopeless with recent events, and is having a hard time seeing the bright side of life right now.
Likes: Muscle cars, bicycling, video games, baseball, girls
Dislikes: Dirty things, foul smells, loud/sudden noises, smokers, tense situations, large groups of people, firearms
Fears: Germs, being trapped with no escape

Biography: Marty was originally born in San Jose, California, but his family relocated to Chicago when he was thirteen. The middle child of seven children, most of his time was spent learning from his older siblings' mistakes and watching over his younger brothers and sister. As a result, Marty has grown into a quiet young man who feels more comfortable being left to his own devices than meddling in others' affairs. Ignacio Sanchez, Marty's father, was the head groundskeeper at Loyola University, and his mother, Maria, a Spanish professor. Still, they did not have enough money to put all their kids through school, so Marty's dreams of being a doctor were cut short. Instead of stiching up open wounds, he'd be sewing molten seals on hot metal in a cheaper welding program offered by the school. Through one of his professors, he got a job as a novice welder for Avalon Construction, where he was placed under the wing of Master Welder Frank Hegland.

While he isn't particularly passionate about this choice of career, it's one he still finds fairly palatable. Over their short time working together, Marty has come to both respect and admire Frank, with whom he's bonded with over the passed two months of working together. Following the initial viral outbreak, Marty frantically tried to get a hold of every contact he could following the tragic loss of his family. The only person who contacted him back was Frank, who he has been surviving with for the passed week. Knowing his parents and younger siblings are dead, Marty has been searching for his older brothers but has found no trace of them and is beginning to assume the worst.

RP Example: See application with Frank Hegland.

Name: Joshua Metier
Age (DoB): 26 (DoB: 02/05/1992)
Nationality: American
Ethnicity: French-Anglo-German
Appearance:

Height: 5'11"
Weight: 145 lbs.
Occupation: Firefighter
Immunity: None

Equipment:
    Clothes:
  • 1x jacket
  • 2x weight lifting gloves
  • 1x joggers pants
  • 1x baseball cap
  • 1x set of underclothing
  • 2x running shoes
    Weapons:
  • 1x fireaxe

  • foodstuffs to last around two or three days (nuts, MREs, oatmeal and raisins, granola, apples)
  • water to last around two days (bottled)
  • Gatorade (bottled)
  • Swiss Army knife
Skills:
  • Athletic (fast and long-lasting endurance)
  • Can handle stress well
  • Advanced medical knowledge
  • Brave
  • Chicago native (knows the streets)
Weaknesses:
  • Impatient
  • Cocky

Accolades: None
NPC: Yes

Personality: Josh Metier thinks very highly of himself and he isn't afraid to let you know it; he's strong, fast, handsome, smart -- he's the full package. He a braggart who wants to let you know all of his accomplishments and how thankful you should be when he helps you. He is not, however, heartless, and does have the capacity to care for people other than himself. He's just not the best at expressing it, is all.
Likes: Exercise and gym, partying, one-night stands, angsty rock bands and crappy mainstream pop music
Dislikes: Fat people, people who don't listen to him
Fears: Drowning, heights, nobody liking him

Biography: A Chicago native, Josh Metier enjoyed life with a silver spoon in his mouth and constant patting on his back for even the smallest of achievements. He grew up thinking that every little thing he did, no matter how insignificant, was something worthy of praise and regard. Usually people like him have little motivation to better themselves, but the constant praising of his abilities from his parents, teachers, and coaches motivated him to be even better. It came as a shock when the scion of one the city's head judge wanted to go into a dangerous field like firefighting, but Josh was fit for the job.

The beginning of the outbreak was utter chaos for Josh (not that the weeks following haven't been, either.) First it was people leaving stoves on, and for whatever reason not vacating their apartments. Then there were riots, people clawing at the firetruck or refusing to get out of the way when they had the sirens going. At one point, his truck was called to spray down a crowd of lunatic rioters, even. Then Josh found out that EMT services were getting shut down because there's a highly infectious virus going around making folks go mad or mutate. With no sign of his parents, Josh was left on his own, alone, until he bumped into Frank and Marty picking through a tool shop yesterday.

RP Example: See application with Frank Hegland.

Just keep in mind that Chicago has strict gun laws, and I'd prefer more people without guns or, at the very least, are inexperienced. Concerning the weapons, 9mm would be somewhat easy to acquire whereas the .303 is nonexistent here considering I have a loot table and finite types of ammo.

Alright then, CZ will do. It do suppose an Ishapore 2A1 or a 7,62 rechamber would be very hard to find in the region.

Couple of questions

Are you allowed to start off immune to the disease?

Would i be allowed to play a Medieval reenactor, wearing a suit of medieval plate armor, and wielding a spear and longsword?

Yes, you can start off immune. Technically, that's possible, but do reenactors use actual plate, as in to the point that it offers actual protection on par to actual suits of armor? Same with the weapons, I'd assume would be dull if used for reenactments. Regardless, that armor is not stopping a bullet if someone decides to shoot you, and considering the weight you'd likely be overrun quite easily.

Yes, you can start off immune. Technically, that's possible, but do reenactors use actual plate, as in to the point that it offers actual protection on par to actual suits of armor?

Depends on the group, many of them do make "or purchase" armor that would be adequate "but not ideal" for soldiers back in the middle ages. It would protect him very well against anything melee related, or primitive projectiles "bows, smaller crossbows, throwing weapons, stuff like that"

Same with the weapons, I'd assume would be dull if used for reenactments.

Allot of reenactors are also weapons collectors, so since i don't want to totally gimp the characters and make it so he can't kill shit. I would have him start off with a couple of sharp weapons not used for reenacting themselves.

Regardless, that armor is not stopping a bullet if someone decides to shoot you, and considering the weight you'd likely be overrun quite easily.

I know its pretty useless against guns, real knight armor with hardened steel could protect against pistols, but he isn't starting with real knight armor. and it wouldn't go that far to protect him.

People who wear and train in plate armor on a regular basis tend to be very strong, with the armor "which is just as heavy as modern military armor" not encumbering them all that much. Watch this video for proof.

1 pair of leather gloves

Food & Water
1 Yugoslavian Mess Kit (bottle filled with water)
1 1l Canteen (filled with water)
Assortment of non-perishable provisions (one week’s worth of food)

Skills:
Avid reader: Edward has spent countless hours browsing the Web, reading old encyclopedias and books. As a result, he is a well cultured man. Although a great deal of his knowledge is now useless, he still remembers a few things about survival and equipment maintenance, gathered from a large amount of documents and field manuals.

Amateur shooter: Always interested in martial subjects and compensating for his lack of physical strength, he bought a couple of firearms, one of which he gave to his spouse after the outbreak. He hasn't had much time to practice after the acquisition, and his accuracy is barely decent. Thus, he prefers avoiding the use of his weapon.

An Englishman’s shed: Hastings liked to tinker in his shed during his spare time. He has gained a bit of mechanical skill, and a basic understanding of machinery and maintenance. However, he would be lost assembling anything much more complex than a bicycle.

Perceptive: It isn't very complicated. He has an attention to detail and that's all.

Weaknesses:
Lost wanderer: Being a stranger to Chicago, Edward only knows a few places, and can easily get lost in its streets, he relies on other to help him navigate

Clumsiness: After the outbreak, Edwards has been increasingly clumsy. Whether because nervousness, or simply thinking too much about what he does, he doesn't know.

Periodic breakdowns: Although he manages to keep calm and cool most of the time, Hastings occasionally needs to let some steam off. This is mostly achieved by rambling incoherently, pausing to meditate in a corner, or engaging in destructive activities for an hour or so. Generally very vulnerable and inattentive during these periods.

Accolades:

Personality: Edward could be seen as a variation of the British gentleman stereotype: polite, calm, disciplined and passionate about his land and ideals, but arrogant and stubborn at times. He is rather fond of social interaction and discussion, however, Hastings will shy away from disliked situations, shielding himself with etiquette.
Likes: ‘The good old times of the nation’, rain, most hot beverages, military or historical matters, most types of music, reading, drawing.
Dislikes: Politically opposing views, recklessness, undisciplined or 'spoiled’ people,
Fears: Edward suffers from a fear of confined spaces, and is extremely worried for his family, who he has lost contact with.

Biography:
Edward A. Hastings was the second child of a traditionalist British Officer and his wife. He and his two brothers resided in the countryside of Oxfordshire, England, where they lived a simple childhood. Their father was strict yet gentle, stressing the importance of discipline and organisation, but despite this Edward was known to falter many times during his studies and neglect his work. The direct consequences of these actions as well as their scars helped instill the young man with these values permanently.

Post graduation, Edward managed to find a job as a respected history teacher, later being hired by the local university through which he met an American teacher and future spouse: Helen. They would marry in 2010. Furthermore, Edward also started writing a political column for a newspaper under a fake name as a means to sustain his new wife. His anonymity did not prevent him from getting into trouble as his articles were extremely provocative and antagonistic. After several controversies and disagreements with his colleagues, the burden of unemployment was forced upon Edward.

In 2012, he left England towards the United States, to allow Helen to resume her work and feed the couple. Fortunately, he was offered a well-paying position in the management of a bookstore chain soon thereafter, which he gladly accepted. The family installed itself in Texas, where Hastings once more returned to the world of writing and journalism in a discrete manner. By 2015, he successfully acquired a permit to bear arms, and in early 2016, he went to spend a month in Illinois to oversee the opening of a local branch, as well as visit some relatives. The days went on by calmly and steadily, until the terrorist attack. At first treating it as something that would pass, he grew wary of the disease, and send his wife away with her family to the countryside, while he settled matters in Chicago. He was caught in the quarantine soon thereafter, and lost contact with Helen. Worried, he gathered his possessions and dug in, occasionally leaving to search for his wife, waiting for the crisis to blow over. As society slowly crumbled into anarchy, he finally decided to leave, and now wanders the streets of Chicago, looking for a way out.

So, in order for Zachary and the family of three to escape I plan on taking him over the canal on the west Kinzie street and take them to the Chicago and Northwestern Powerhouse. I just wanted to let the OP know so that if he wanted to add to the map, he could.

Code: Select all
 Trashbags x2
Metal piping(Melee Weapon) x1
Nuts and bolts x14

Don't mind the Chicago Northwestern Powerhouse, I changed my mind.

Instead, Zach and the family could go to the Echelon Chicago. And some of the loot could be

His father had been in the Royal Marines, and trained Hamish to use a gun.
All was well, until one day.

Hamish was at school doing mathematics, when he was pulled out of his lesson.
The head teacher told Hamish his father had died in a car accident on the M8.
He had collided with a lorry and his car spun out and smashed into a tree.
In his fathers will, Hamish received his father’s Swiss Army Knife, £5000 and some collectible coins.

After his fathers death, Hamish decided he would get better at shooting.
He even tried one arm shooting, in case he broke his arm.

Hamish ran out of the shooting range, gun in hand, holster on belt.
He didn’t enjoy running, but he bolted to the hotel where he was staying.
Everyone was fixated on the TV screen, watching the effects of the bioweapon.

“What are you?” said Hamish, gun out of ammo.
“I am infected, you can’t kill me, bub.” said the man.

Hamish threw his only grenade, and blew the man up.
“I’m surprised he didn’t die sooner”.

Biography:
Rowan had, from a very young age, wanted to be an architect. He had, since birth, always been a leader. He inspired people to do things, and this made him ideal to lead teams of any kind. His mother thought he'd be a politician. But as he grew, he excelled in math and science at his Washington school, rising up through high school as one of their best science and technology students. Throughout, he proved his skills as a leader through countless group projects and deadlines. However, when college application time came around, his family broke a hard truth to him: they didn't have enough money to send him to college. This drastically limited his options as to where he could go to school. Purdue University offered him the most money, and he took it, taking three years of classes there. When the outbreak occurred, Rowan had been in the city for a night out with friends. Since then, he's been stranded in the city, unable to find enough gas to leave.

RP Example:
Rowan looked around hastily, checking to see if the street was occupied. When it seemed as though he were the only one there, he crept out into the open, making an effort to stay silent. Anyone-- or anything-- could hear him at any time, he reminded himself as he carefully tread on shattered glass and broken concrete. As he crossed the road towards an abandoned (and unlooted) general store, he kept his wits about him and his hand on his gun. You never knew when the zombies would come out to play, he knew. So he carefully entered the store and drew his gun.

It was a heavy thing, ugly. It was a dark grey color, like his eyes, and it was matte. The grips were rosewood, carved from a block Rowan had bought when in Brazil. The potential to kill clung to the weapon like a foul stench, and Rowan held it steadily, aiming into the doorway as he opened it gently.

I left the RP sample, because it's just meant to give you an idea, but I fixed the things you asked me to.

I'll allow it. ACCEPTED.

A few minor things. Edward looks to be in his 40's but is only 26. While not a major thing it's odd. Maybe cut back on the ammo. Lose a magazine or two. Concerning equipment, keep in mind that you have to carry all this, so the more you have the more inconvenienced you're going to be, not to mention being slowed down by the weight. Tweak the weaknesses a bit. Most everyone is average, and maybe increase his clumsiness so that it is actually a real burden. Being clumsy all the time is more interesting than sometimes clumsy as you may encounter problems to overcome. I assume he moved to America because of his wife, because moving just to work at a bookstore in Chicago is a big move for such a small position. And I really would like an RP Example of yours (trying to be more consistent with that). Otherwise, a few minor things but the app is going in the right direction.

A lot of issues with this one.

1) First, the coding is wrong as not everything should be bolded. Accolades are achievements you earn (as stated in the OP underneath ACCOLADES) and NPC refers to how many NPC's you have following you (which you earn in the IC).

2) Co-OP is from the UK so he has first-hand experience with gun laws there. Strict is an understatement. Regardless, you're making him too proficient in firearms (atop already being intelligent). No one would even consider one-handed shooting because "I might break my arm" so it comes across as ridiculous. Secondly, I assume any gun he owns now would have been acquired in Chicago as there is no way you'd be able to transport a weapon from a place with strict gun laws to another place with strict gun laws.

3) A school may offer trips to students but I highly doubt Chicago would be on the list considering the crime rate. It would make more sense for a school in the UK to have trips to mainland Europe than America.

4) Nix the gun skill and add more weaknesses. Also maybe not make him a prodigy. A good student is fine but being the best at some old, respected college comes across as forced.

5) Concerning the bio, why are the paragraphs cut apart like that? Already said that a school trip to Chicago is a stretch. Additionally, having experienced being alive when a major terrorist event happens there isn't some warning being broadcasted and alarms. When 9/11 happened I only found out later as I was outside the affected area. Aside from the airport being shutdown, the remainder of Chicago would likely be unaffected in the initial day. Business as usual. Sure, there would be news coverage and the alerts on TV once Martial Law was declared a few days later, but how you have it written is not at all what it would be like. We don't even have public shelters.

6) About him being at the gun range, considering he can't bring his own gun then he'd be using a range gun, so he wouldn't be walking out with it as that is theft and law-and-order is still in effect. He'd be confronted by the owners or police.

7) The RP Example is a mess. For one, Infected are individuals suffering from brain-damage, they are NOT zombies, and they can be killed by mag-dumping seven bullets into their chest just like any normal human. Being brain-damaged, Infected are not gonna stand there and talk to you as if they understand what's going on. They may mumble a few words but that's it. That's also not how grenades work.

Honestly, now that you say that, my application is very inaccurate.
I’ll switch it up a lot.

OP NOTE: A lot of people are getting this wrong, so let me clarify: Infected are NOT zombies. They are NOT undead. They are living creatures and require food, water, and oxygen. They die if they bleed out or if you shoot them anywhere but the head and hit something important (they just may not go down immediately if an attack is not instantly fatal). Infected are humans with severe brain damage. They have regressed to a feral state. Keep this in mind.

Biography:
Hamish was a normal young adult. He didn’t drink, do drugs or fight. He was performing OK at university, but wanted to travel the world. He planned a trip to the US during his gap year, going from NYC to Los Angeles on a road trip, after recently receiving his license. He booked the flights, and one week later, he was in NYC. At the airport, he rented a VW Jetta, as it was the cheapest car available. He then begun his road trip. First, he drove to a gas station and bought some water, to go with his shortbread he brought from home. By the time he got to Chicago, he had 3 bottles left. Since he was tired, he booked a room in a motel and went to sleep. By the time he had awoken from his sleep, the bioweapon had been launched. Since then, he’s been staying in his motel, eating shortbread and some chocolate he found in the minibar. He’s been tempted to leave his motel, after seeing people with guns shooting at “the infected”, but he hasn’t left yet.

RP Example:
Hamish clambered out of his bed. It had been 3 days since the bioweapon was launched. He walked up to the window and looked outside. His Jetta was sitting there, mostly undamaged. After that, he sat down on his bed and checked his phone. The time read 11:34, and his battery percentage was at 9%. Time for breakfast. He walked to his backpack and pulled out his shortbread.
He took a bit, then went to look out of the window again. While eating, he said aloud to himself, “You know what? I’ll take a drive today. Maybe I’ll find some other survivors.” Hamish then changed into other clothes that were in his suitcase, grabbed his backpack and car keys, and left the motel. He then walked over to his car, unlocked it, and got in. Now that he was out of the motel, he could see the damage that the bioweapon had caused. Blood lined the streets, and broken glass was everywhere. Hamish was shocked. But, nevertheless, he put the key in the ignition and turned it. Nothing. He turned it again, and heard the engine sputter slightly. Then, he twisted it again, and the engine sputtered about 6 times before starting. The low fuel warning light came on, and Hamish got so annoyed he slammed his head against the steering wheel and then began punching it. After about 20 seconds, he calmed down, turned off the engine and got out. “Well that’s just fantastic, isn’t it?” he said angrily.
