Depending on where the Danes shall steer their ships... not as strange of a concept as one may think. For now, I'm gonna be getting some beaver pelts from the Iroquois and jostling with the other Colonial powers.

No, you can claim an NPC, claim elsewhere, or (if the NPC is outside of Europe), claim an NPC and add more provinces to them (even if that would annex an NPC or two) so long the total provinces are 50 or less. i.e you could app as Mamluk (egypt) and claim Tripoli and Lebanon

Ah...so if one were to be Sweden, one could feasibly gobble up either the Netherlands...or colonize in the New World.

The Mughals?
if you are looking at the map it says NPC so i hope you aren't looking for a player
but if want info on the Mughals they are more like the Timurid Empire but i choose Mughal as that's more familiar with people

Are they still a gunpowder empire with a more advanced offensive army, or more tribal horsemen typical of the area.

The first part will involve the Emperor and stuff going on in the Palace, the second part will involve the war with Yuan China over Joseon, and the third part will involve a messenger being sent to Wei China to make an offer should they align themselves with Japan in the war with Yuan.
EDIT: Here's a Japanese Map of the World, c. 1550 or 1600. It's non-canon, as this is what Japanese military/political leaders are going to have drafted up in my post. It's an idealistic map, not canon at all and who knows if it'll actually come to fruition.
They're obviously going to only display the Asian portion when they meet with the Wei about an alliance; the Wei get their 'united China', in return for supporting the Japanese in their own endeavors in the Asian sphere...

No doubt the Crusade Sigurd was upon could be related to the place of the Pope in this day and age.

from my understanding
A.) Caeser doesn't exist Rome is a Republic
B.) The pope resides in Rome and as such is controlled by Cainesland
C.) the Pope didn't crown Charlemagne Emperor of Rome (because Rome existed) and thus no HRE but instead a Carolingian empire
D.) This resulted in Catholicism spreading into central Europe much slower than IRL, prolly more paganized than what would be wanted.
E.) the pope also has less influence in the affairs of European states.

NPCs IN EUROPE cannot have more claims added to them.
you can be either Sweden or the Netherlands
(of course IC you can do whatever you want)
I know, but I was trying to figure out the religious/cultural situation of the world, start out as an NPC, become the ultimate colonizer.
