I'm not sure how Michael would reach that conclusion. Achysian necromancers didn't freely run around like mercenaries do, harassing cities, when they attacked one they dealt with it, or if it was too strong they avoided.

It would make a lot more sense for Michael to have seen the behavior of Anselmian or even actual Calarian mercenaries during the war and to expect that.

Well, in this case certainly, otherwise it wouldn't make sense.

Just ask next time, it's not a big issue. But the necromancers were overall a pretty disciplined force of mages. Most of the atrocities they committed were brutal and pragmatic in nature.

Alessia's ability to find out the exact route the Calarian fleet would take is close to impossible. Talking to spirits is a notoriously finicky part of magic, and the Kartaran shamans that she would have learned from are best at talking with spirits on their own islands.

She could maybe get a rough idea, but any further details would require proper intelligence.

Understood, then Alessia will go with her rough idea, then, unless @Elysian and @Kingdom of Irkh's characters have contacts and magic which can help.

Elysian, Irkh, do they? I forgot the answer to the question last time.

Do keep in mind that the Calarians have the Messaggeri, the Messengers, their own spy group.

Other than they're a spy ring and that they're under the control of the Priori nothing much, or else it would defeat their purpose.

But there are likely many Kartarans on the island who are on their pay roll.

I see. That makes sense, but it's something I overlooked when making my moves - I genuinely thought that Calaria's spy network, whatever it was, won't extend deep into Kartara.

Calaria has been holding parts of the western side of the island on and off for a few decades now. And especially in times of peace, there has been a lot of trade.

And not all Kartaran clans are also opposed to maintaining the status quo or even to Calarian rule, obviously

Seeing as Calaria had no intention to directly conquer the rest of the island for the time being either, Alessia did kick the hornet's nest and also angered all the clans who are afraid of Calaria.

'TIS COMPLETED

Character Application

(I highly suggest that you should read the OOC and parts of the Lore prior to filling this out, as they can help you when creating an app.)
(Fill it out as requested.)
(Erase everything in parentheses when finishing the app)

Name: Klement Madera
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heteromantic Asexual (though he is not consciously aware of it)
Race: Human
Appearance:

Image
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 150 lbs

Position/Status/Affiliation: Merchant
Skills/Powers//Magic: Klement is fairly intelligent, and he is quite levelheaded; while this may seem innocuous, it is a highly useful trait in the midst of a crisis. As such, he is more likely to come up with a rational solution during a moment of panic. He also knows how to handle finances well, and can explain economics and trade in great detail. He'll know where a piece of cloth came from, for instance, and which social class and even race it is intended for. He can utilize and convert between multiple currencies, and knows how to barter.
Equipment: Klement lives in his own quarters in Světla, where he houses his clothing, foodstuffs, and other things pertaining to his job. He does have a cloak, jerkin, and satchel for when he travels around the city, both for protection and to look cool, and keeps a small dagger by his bed just in case. He also has a fair amount of money, though he is not what could be considered overly rich; he save most of it, using what he needs to get by.

Personality: Klement is fairly laid-back, with most people describing him as relaxed and even-tempered. He does not often raise his voice or become impassioned, nor does he express particularly strong opinions about most matters. More often than not, he is thought to be indifferent to most things; however, it is more like he internalizes the strong opinions and feelings he does have.

He is a fairly friendly individual who enjoys casual conversation with the people he is close to. He prides himself on being a great listener, if "pride" is the right word to associate with Klement Madera. He isn't exactly aligned with any of the Seven Deadly Sins, and has a fairly negative outlook on them; however, he does not have a particularly strong connection connection to the Seven Virtues. Virtues, to him, are moral ideals meant to be striven toward than true alignments of the sapient soul. He does not often actively strive toward them, though there are definitely some virtues that resemble his lifestyle and personality. For instance, he has no desire for physical pleasure, or interest in it, really. And he could be considered a fairly kind person. He has no propensity for violence, and he is not thought to have a single rebellious bone in his body. But he is more aligned with virtue than sin, even if he typically occupies the neutral area in between two absolutes.
Moral Alignment: (Optional.Basic DnD Alignment Grid, if you'd like.)
Biography: A native of Světla, Klement Madera was born into a well-off but not prominent merchant family in 5003 not two hours before his twin sister, Jolana. His father, Vašek, had already established for himself a lucrative career in trading foreign goods and was the principle moneymaker for Klement's immediate family. As his father, Radoš, had not yet died, Vašek was not yet the patriarch of the Madera merchants, but he would become so after Radoš died in 5008.

Klement has an elder brother, Petr, who is three years his senior and was very close to Klement in their formative years. But Petr's position as firstborn son meant he was favored by their father, who allotted more resources to Petr's education than he did Klement and Jolana's. Furthermore, Jolana's being female meant that, following the social customs of the free merchant class, she was not to receive the same level of education as her brothers.

Meanwhile, their mother, Vladana, favored her only daughter. This meant Klement was caught in the middle, placed on a pedestal by neither parent and seemingly ignored. Yet his middle child syndrome served to grant him more independence than his siblings. Though he was not of noble birth, Klement found himself mingling with a few members of Světla's elite. He sought no material wealth or political power, and his primary interests could be characterized as aligning with both the family business and a general sense of misdirection. In other words, Klement's motivations were directionless enough that he posed no threat but aligned enough with trade that he could in no way be considered beholden to sloth.

But he was smart, and he knew how to negotiate a deal and handle money. That much became apparent whenever the topic of finance was addressed. He could hold his own, and, when his formal education was completed, managed to save enough to buy himself a small residence not far from where he worked. Yes, he was in the family business, but he operated semi-independently and made a decent income. Perhaps that was why, when he had the free time, he started going on strolls around the city, which eventually led him to meet Kyle Perrin-Palailogos.

Klement bore striking differences to Kyle: he was less radical, less ambitious, less of a Renaissance man than Kyle was. He'd been born free and had never tasted the yoke of slavery. Klement was not what you would call enterprising, and he certainly did not possess the fiery genius of his friend. But, at 17, he became acquainted with the adopted nobleman and over time came to learn his story.

Klement had never liked slavery, nor had he ever given it much consideration. To him, it was an evil, but one that could not easily be weeded out with a snap of a finger. He simply could not see a way out. But Kyle, Kyle had lived though the horrors of slavery. He had witnessed these atrocities firsthand. When he shared his experiences with Klement, Klement had but mortified--how could he or anyone ever countenance such a cruel practice? Right then, he knew he could not longer be idle.

However, while Klement's hatred of slavery developed in an instant, his need to take action did not. Rather, it came over time, trickling into him like water poured from a clay vessel. He struggled to see what exactly he could do to contribute for a long period; he had not fighting skill or magic, and his mercantile skills could not be of much help...could they?

But slave revolts need resources to be effective, and now, four years after first meeting Kyle, Klement finally sees how he can be of use. He has not spoken to Kyle in over two years, but he has heard whispers of his old friend's rebellious leanings. Regardless of how many of the other rumors are true, he firmly believes in the rumor that Kyle is planning a revolt. Knowing at least part of his story makes that rumor feel too accurate to be mere hearsay. As for everything else, well, Klement isn't sure about all of that yet. But he isn't averse to the idea of donating some funds to help his friend out.

As of late, his strolls around the city have grown to be more purposeful. Whether he consciously acknowledges it or not, Klement is looking for Kyle. At the very least, he is looking for more rumors about Kyle, more information. Maybe, when he runs into Kyle again, he will finally have something to offer beyond a willingness to listen.
Goals: Being only 21, Klement is not sure yet of what direction to take in life. He knows he is going to be a merchant, probably, and that he will likely spend his entire life in Světla. But he does not know what his true purpose is. He does not expect that he will figure it out any time soon, and he's fine with that, but there is a part of him that is curious to see if his life is destined to take interesting turns. It's not an ambition or an itch, more of a mild fantasy--or a fleeting wish.
Theme Song: IDK yet

RP Sample:

He woke up with fire flashing before his face and horror in his eyes. A scream that had been holding itself in for eons of oblivion erupted from his throat, a frantic, harsh shout that had been cut off by the bullet before it had even been unleashed. He was shouting now, shouting in terror with the grim knowledge that he was about to die, no, he was dead, dead from his own bungling incompetence and panic.

His lungs strained and his throat burned, but he kept screaming. He couldn't control it, couldn't hold it back. It was a part of him, this scream, as both a death cry and the signal of violent rebirth.

He didn't notice his surroundings, not for several seconds. He was too busy reliving his death, the final milliseconds of abject error as his gun misfired and his own bullet tore through his skull. All he was was the barrel, the field, the scrambling bodies as they retreated from the enemy. He smelled the gunpowder, lead, and the tang of blood and death. The heat from the Sun bearing down on him, suffocating him in his hot, scratchy uniform. The squelching of the ground beneath his feet. And the weather, the relentless summer weather, pressing down on him and robbing him of his senses.

He'd hated summer. Always had, always would. He preferred not the heat but the fresh, cool sea air of Copenhagen, the winters, the beaches, waves. He'd always wanted to travel abroad, but he could not deny that he was an instrument of the North, fashioned from generations upon generations of raiders and fishermen.

Now, his vision was clearing--but it was not the intangible wisps of Heaven that he feasted his eyes upon. Rather, it was something flat, and gray, almost gleaming like metal but not quite. Like a wall, but not. Was he in some sort of holding place, some strange limbo between life and death? No, that made no sense, it wouldn't--

Then, he realized he was standing.

Surrounded by strange, glasslike material, feet on a circular disc of metal. Feet in...boots he did not recognize, in a style that was too perfect, that made no sense. Clothes on his lean but slightly muscled frame, clothes of a pewter gray that clung to him, that were thin, barely noticeable. They lacked layers, lacked function, they were toughing him and were of an unfamiliar material and--

He was screaming again. Hunched over, hands in his hair, barking cries tearing from his mouth in utter anxiety, and he sank to the ground with his legs folded beneath him and his torso hunched forward. Forehead resting against the strange surface, and it made no sense, no sense, where was this place, had he done something wrong, he was in Hell.

He stayed like this for awhile, trembling, gasping. He was a soldier; he could not let his emotions take over everything. But he couldn't help it. He was afraid, and he was naked, in a strange place with strange walls and strange glass and a strange floor and strange clothes. And he had no gun, no gun, and no sword either, just himself. No way to fight.

He knew he was dead, for there was no gaping hole in the back of his head, no blood dripping from his face. He did not feel so much as a scar on his skin. So this was the afterlife, a freaky, lonesome place, and now he would be stuck here forever with no connection to anything.

In case anyone was wondering, I haven't vanished. My computer was having issues recently. Just got a new SSD and reinstalled windows, and it seems everything's fine now. It seems like the old SSD that came with this computer back in 2019 was the culprit, since I've had issues on and off since I first got it back then. At times it was fine, then it would flare up every few weeks or months, until recently it got worse, and a few days ago it got stuck on an automatic recovery/repair cycle and wouldn't properly restart.

Most of my stuff is on other drives (including all my steam games, music, and other stuff) as well as cloud storage (a combination of dropbox, onedrive, google drive and mega), and I backed up the SSD when it was working (though it only had had windows and some core programs stored on it, along with some stuff that I already had a copy of elsewhere), so I haven't really lost anything and it's not too difficult to set everything up again.

Anyway, now that's sorted and my computer isn't going to have any more massive slow-downs, blue screens or dodgy start-up issues, I can probably start to do some stuff on NS again (like work on my characters and potentially do stuff in the IC, be it for this RP or Ceystile's deity RP).

Yeah, I heard that you were having issues with your computer, I was meaning to send you a message about that but it kept slipping my mind xD

I'm glad that it was as easy as getting a new SSD though, and that you didn't lose anything, losing data is always awful. I lost a lot of NS drafts and images due to a hard disk failure last year, which is what prompted me to switch fully to SSD and to start using cloud backups.

It would be great to have you back in the IC though xD

I am taking a break from DoC. I will still lurk in the OOC and some portions of the IC, but I need perspective to deal with the most recent events to happen to the Palaiologos Family and Alessia and some distance from the RP will help with that.

@Faal Lot Himdah, you can move the Morizia Plot without Michael, but I'd like to ask that Az save him from being captured if it's in-character for them to do so. If it isn't, I understand.

Uhhhh hey guys it's been awhile huh lol

I haven't been on NS in forever and actually forgot my password for this account at first, but I figured it out. If it's still possible I might start posting again (if things aren't too for ahead in the story). I remember I was RPing as Arthur somewhere in Velikiya (?) last time I posted.

Welcome back, it's certainly been a while xD

You'd be more than welcome to rejoin of course! Things aren't that ahead chronologically. Not much has happened in Velikiya for Arthur, and as for Peter, the battle in Chovers did indeed end in the meanwhile, but we assumed that he took part in it until its end, so there are plenty of things that could do afterwards.

Welcome back Zap rapid summary of the Chovers situation:
Battle at Chovers just ended and it is now a couple days later, everyone got honors and such and something they requested of the princess. During the Battle of Chovers Illania was released by a guard and started fighting the Faith Keepers to help save Alexis and the maid I play killed a couple of guys with knives and swords. Illania is currently Alexis' personal prisoner and is speaking with Alexis alone (well mostly alone since the maid is in the same room as them serving tea) and Eric left for elsewhere.

In other parts of the world: there is an undead problem cropping up in Wyzkia, Kartara (where Eric left to) is fighting the Calarians, the Archbishop of Pride called a meeting of all surviving Archbishops and declared himself the Cardinal with half of the Cult of Lust along with the Cults of Gluttony and Greed reserving judgement for now/until their demands/expectations are met, and Pride's girlfriend, the Archbishop of Sloth, got captured by two of the Seven Heroes.
