The War in Heaven

The year is 2099. It has been three generations since humanity was uplifted by the Galactic Concordat, a multi-party council of almost 118 non-human, space faring species. 92 years of humanity adapting gifted designs to their own malleable works, tactics from centuries long past adapted for the void, or merged with others to form an ingenious play book of marshal might. Medical practices no longer needing to turn people away due to funding, ease of treatment skyrocketing the standard of living to unforeseen heights as bio-printing and gene therapy become the norm. FTL travel and cryo-sleep have resulted in the Sol system having colonies on Luna, Venus, Mars, Titan, and the Galilean Moons. With most under going the lengthy process of colonisation. The elderly of humanity, remember the days of dial up internet and a scarce understanding of dark energy, to video calls with their grandchildren on extra-solar colonies, and using dark matter to fling themselves through space at superluminal speeds for a vacation on an alien world.

But humanity was not uplifted with a simple cause at heart. The galaxy is at war, and humanity, having been monitored from afar for millennia, was noted for their endothermic biology, capacity for war, adaptability, and empathy, traits rarely seen all together in other species. We have been uplifted to fend off a tide of religious zeal, a crusade against all that the Concordat stands for, peace, prosperity, safety, and freedom. All to be seemingly crushed under a banner of 'The Faith', where every man, woman, and child is forced to convert, become a cog in a machine that sees them as useless, or be killed, or worse.

Humanity was not found to complain.

It has been a year since humanity first entered the fray as a factor that forced the rest of the galaxy to reforge years of tactics to accompany them, and our blood, forged from the dust and rock that have been stained with thousands of years of war, strife, and innovation will find 'The Faith' wanting.

You will be a member of the 5th Strike Fleet, ranging from that of cold infantry, to the tactically minded shipmasters in orbit, to the quartermasters and cooks within. Your mission is to participate in Operation: Swollen Mule, the mission to bore a hole through The Faith's lines in the Adami Sector, 18 planets, 5 of which are garden worlds. All needing to be ripped from the clutches of a maniacal religion hellbent on forcing their 'truth' upon wll who may hear it.

This is not a story of glory, glee, or blinding hope. It is a story of brotherhood, tragedy, and war. Many will die, many more will break under the pressure. But all will be remembered.

2019

-An Aelid Emirate ship crash lands near Saskatoon, Canada. Humanity makes first contact with an alien species.

2020

-An Aelid Recovery Fleet arrives in orbit over Earth. With the testimony of those on board the Aelid ship 'Beauty of Annihilation' as well as the rather swift adaptation to gifted technologies, humanity is given 'Special Uplifting' Status.

2021

-Humanity builds it's first extrasolar ship, the HSV Necessity. Colonies are quickly set up on both Luna and Mars.

2022

-Colonies are set up on the Galilean Moons. Humanity starts a rate of ship production previously unseen in Concordat space. Swiftly meeting the amount of staff for said vessels.

2023

-Space administrations lower requirements for astronautics programs. The safety and normalcy of the ships humanity builds allow more generic and less educated individuals to find a station upon them. Ranging from cooks to security and doctors.

2025

-The first human ship designed for war is finished. It's name, decided upon by internet vote, is settled as the HSV Spirit. Though retired as of 2099, it remains a museum ship, in orbit over Olympus Mons.
-UN General Assembly Resolution 74/188 founds the United Nations Astronautical Corps. Created to be Earth's military arm in the void of space, and to act as the protective shield for which Earth now needs, within 8 weeks, thirteen million applicants are accepted. The Age of Wanderlust begins.
-With the creation of UNAC, standardized equipment begins production based on unit familiarity and usage. Rifles based off the Kalashnikov platform are selected, among others.

2027

By this point nearly every planetoid within Sol has a human station on it or orbiting it. Jupiter has massive Helium-3 mines, asteroids are regularly strip mined, and Titan is home to a selection of Humanity's Astronautical combat forces.

2032

Humanity reaches a population of 9 billion.

2039

-The UN is re-established as 'The Federation of Terra'. The UNAC is re-established as the Terran Armed Forces.
