Mankind would have become as the Great Old Ones; free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and reveling in joy. Then the liberated Old Ones would teach them new ways to shout and kill and revel and enjoy themselves, and all the earth would flame with a holocaust of ecstasy and freedom.
If they succeed the cults god death will merge from the ten avatars, and come to rule the universe. From there supposedly the worthy will be reborn as enlightened immortals who will recreate humanity in their image free from the old morals, laws, and ethics imposed by the "old gods". These old gods though petty still realize they have a role to play in maintaining the balance and cannot allow death to overtake what their creator bestowed to them. In this world monsters, men, abominations, and all sorts of terrors plague humanity, but despite this ongoing apocalypse humanity still struggles to exist. As cities fall various factions fight over their corpses in an ever-widening grand game, and one that you soon will be a part of.
The battle of cults, misfits, and monsters in a backward Mexican town in 1952 only delayed the end. The date is March 17th, 1962, and you count the days till your world ends or begins anew. In the thirties, the dead started rising in phases either as completely sapient or mindless monsters who had to be put down. Thirty days ago the dread third rising occurred, and this time it wasn't just a quick burn, and fizzle like the other two, but has continuously kept going on to include all those who have or will die. Those still intelligent, and human enough can quickly fit back into society albeit have to be quarantined due to their endless hunger for "meat" which is needed to stop from going feral.
The military initially set up sections for them to live in, and for those showing symptoms of going feral well...they dealt with them. Yet then another horrifying change happened whereas in the previous two risings the "freshies" i.e. intelligent, and human "ghouls" as we call those who rose suddenly, and irreversibly became feral in minutes. Reportedly people all over the globe reported hearing a strange signal, and suddenly it was utter chaos as previous normal ghouls became bloodthirsty savages. The military bombed many of the sectors they set up as a precaution regardless of whether the freshies turned or not. Since that day huge bonfires run constantly to dispose of any, and everyone that dies before they rise, and become a problem.
Radio silence could only hide the truth for so long, and leaks from the government blackout reveal that "As of March 17th, 1962 over half the human population is dying, dead, or soon to be both according to our statistics". After this report crowds across the world began rioting and breaking out of established safe zones looking for a better option. The various responses included either letting them go or simply gunning them down until nothing, but paste was left. Some military commanders cracked under the stressed and ordered their areas bombed. The panic killed millions with just as many choosing to kill themselves or entire families in ways that would ensure no resurrection.
A lot of suicides didn't go right and resulted in even more ghouls waking up confused, and ever increasingly hungry. A big spike in this happened a week ago, and the ghouls no longer able to contain their hunger would often take a bite out of their family members first before moving on to the rest of the neighborhood. A bite wound is pretty much an instant death sentence, and the remains of the military and police handle it appropriately in a way that ensures no resurrection. Various monsters, horrors, and abominations appearing a few days ago have caused many safe zones to fall, but others are still in operation for now. The biggest one remaining out west is currently Oklohama City, and either through quick thinking, luck, or something else you went down the right evacuation route.
The City is massively filled with people, and everyone who came in got registered and has to wear an identification bracelet at all times. The military is everywhere, and several support camps are in place to back the city up. You and a few others are currently holed up in a run-down apartment building in a city on the edge. There is hope as a group tasked with relocation are handling exams, and other tasks for a project known as "Outpost-12". The people in charge are very blunt as this "Outpost-12" is part of an after the end project with enough food, arms, entertainment, and supplies to keep a decent sized population happy, healthy, and living until a time comes for global repopulation.
You have a chance in hell, but its more than enough of a chance to make it across the way, and be evacuated to this place should you meet their "qualifications". Today the taskmasters want to test everyone in the apartment building to see if they are worthy additions for the outpost, but you can't shake the feeling something horrific is about to happen. Whether it is the increase in the number of militaries or the increase in curfew time. Something big is coming to Oklahoma City, and it might be big enough to wipe it off the map. Can you, and your fellow survivors make it across the way, and survive till the end or fall just like millions before you to the ghouls, cults, and monsters plaguing our world?
This story concerns itself heavily with H.P Lovecraft's works of Dagon, The Shadow over Innsmouth, Call of Cthulhu, and short story Nyarlathotep. Several inspirations from Stephen Kings It, and The Stand as well as Max Brooks World War Z are at play here. This a very different, and the fictional world from our own world, but instead of relying on small-town isolation like the previous roleplay this one hits closer with a major American city. This city is crowded with refugees and native citizens who are in a hopeless situation awaiting some slim chance of salvation in an apocalyptic scenario. The primary goal once the city falls to outside powers is to escape it, but escaping will not be an easy endeavor.
The Victorian culture, morality, and schizo-tech presence that dominates are the world is eroding as people give in to a seemingly hopeless world on its last legs. Southern Gothic is highly present, but instead in a large, and overcrowded near-southwestern city rather than an isolated railroad town in Mexico. Cosmic and religious horror fuse throughout this roleplay as vengeful gods, monsters, and abominations plague the dying species of humanity. Our placid isle of ignorance is cracking apart, and humanity can hide no longer even in the highly structured Oklahoma City which too will fade once a fire comes, and consumes everything. The world may be ending, but whether you choose to embrace this end, and become one with it is up to you.
In these final days you may rage against the machine, but be prepared for most simply to flee, and huddle. If power is what you desire then perhaps you should work with one of the factions. The factions will, of course, use you as pawns in an ever-widening great game of searching for relics, and artifacts in their wars, but you will gain something in the end. You could also choose to take the lead of one rather than being a follower, and mold them for the battle to come. The end is truly unavoidable, but how you shape it will determine the victor, and what happens to humanity afterward.
Ten years ago people thought we were nearing the end, and who could blame them? The dead were rising to feast on the flesh of living all over the world. Various cults caused the murder rate to skyrocket by engaging in orgies of human sacrifice to resurrect or appease bloodthirsty, and ancient entities. One such cult, that we know today as the "Order of Death" came close to achieving their "enlightened immortality" by merging ten avatars to form their god i.e the aspect of death. The tenth one was wounded back into a state of slumber during a battle of legend in some now abandoned town in Mexico called Laggards Burrow.
The town is in ruins, and the various people went their own way thinking the earth safe, but in truth, they were very wrong. The nine remaining avatars have become known as "the nine riders" who go to, and from the corners of the earth to wreak havoc on a dying old world in an immense reign of terror. Thirty days ago the reign reached genocidal proportions with the start of the "third rising". The nine riders and their followers seek to bring about the tenth rider and free the worthy from the laws of life, and creation. This will require rebirth through a cycle of ecstasy, holocaust, and madness in order to bring about the "enlightened immortality" the worthy want for them, and all of the "new" humanity. These people think themselves worthy to change the balance creating a new creator with them as the new gods, and humanity as their servants.
The old gods who were created to ensure the balance realize this would be a fate worse than death, and if all else fails plan to awake the creator himself and cause the universe to reset. This would render all the schemes, and actions of the cult useless, and save the living even if no one would remember this world or anything about it. Currently many consider that the best option as the British have lost all contact with Africa, and India while the Soviets have gone silent. Paris which was bombed into a chemical hell by the Soviets from their seat of power in occupied Germany is giving out a few reports every few days. The French administration out of Algiers cannot seem to find out what happened to their troops in the no mans land of Northern France either.
Surveillance Planes simple show empty ruins, trenches, machine gun nests, and more. Indochina bombed to oblivion by the French who used an experimental substance to conduct death on a mass scale have come to regret it. The former colony now ruled over by ruins and monstrous abominations. Moscow has stopped sending out suicide bombers or propaganda messages, and the Shogunates adventures in coastal Siberia lend credence that something has gone horribly wrong in the Soviet Union. The Shogunates warped views concerning Buddhist impermanence, death of one's self, extreme militarism, and the imperial cult are becoming popular due to the fact the Shogunate is amazingly stable in a dying world. The people of the Americas no longer view the Shogunate as a "foreign devil" given the whole world ending scenario, and as such the various North American nations have come to rely on them militarily for aid to stay afloat.
Back in 1953 several months after the events in Laggards Burrow the fighting over the Pacific Northwest came to an end with the three powers in the region peacefully dividing up the Pacific Northwestern States. The Imperial States of Columbia gaining Oregon, the Shogunate taking Washington, and Great Plains Federation taking Idaho. The Columbians currently maintain a civilian government, but have evacuated the imperial capital of Montgomery for one of the Outposts somewhere. Many believe the Emperor personally invested in the creation of the outpost system, and this is why Columbia hasn't yet collapsed like so many other nations. Regardless the Emperor believes the current global system will fail, and once the order is given the outposts will repopulate the world for a new order, and time.
Regardless I welcome you all to this pet project roleplay of mine I Wish I Wasn't in Dixie: Across the Way, and please enjoy your stay especially how you choose to end it.

2] As general rule images are to be spoilered, and try to give the application a decent run through before submitting it.
3] Flaming, trolling, griefing, and flame-baiting are to uncivil so please argue, and debate in the OOC respectfully or solve your personal problems via telegram.
4] Godmodding will result in a character receiving a handicap penalizing them, and after two more godmodding warnings the character will meet an untimely death.
5] Roleplayers are restricted to two living characters unless they really need three or more (such as a family). Regardless this will be a depth heavy roleplay so please be careful in how you proceed.
6] Characters over time will receive powers, and benefits to slightly aid them, but remember power usage comes at a cost if you exert yourself too much. Characters will not have these powers at the start in order to put everyone on the same level.
7] Your actions will have consequences either localized to an arc or for the general plot so choose wisely.
