Hey, I'm probably going to have 2 underpowered characters. Well, one who's powerful but can't fight, not exactly. And the other who doesn't seem powerful but just might be. I'd say go for it.

Name: Whitney Snyder
Alias: Cinder
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Female
Age: 18
Build: 5' 5"
Sexual orientation: Straight

Powers:
  • When Whitney holds or touches an object, lines begin to be burnt into it regardless of the material. The lines are random, but they form geometric shapes and never cross each other. At any time, Whitney can drop or throw the object and it will explode with the size of the explosion proportional to how long the lines are allowed to propagate.
  • Smoke Screen: Whitney can cause dark smoke to pour from her hands and hair, creating an effective smokescreen. The smoke also contains numerous cinders that can set vulnerable areas ablaze.
  • Explosive resistance: Whitney seems nearly immune to explosions, but being blasted into a wall as the result of an explosion, or being hit with shrapnel will still cause devastating damage.

Drawbacks and Limitations: Since the size of the explosion is linked to the number of lines burned into the object, an object's size limits the maximum strength of the explosion.

Equipment: N/A

Personality: Whitney is explosive, figuratively as well as literally. She acts impulsively and likes to have fun. She's outgoing and sociable.

Nationality: Irish
Hometown: Kilkenny
Bio: Whitney is one of the Academy's more... high-risk students. She grew up constantly getting into trouble, nothing serious, but enough to leave her parents in a constant state of worry and exasperation. Whitney attended a nearby university but was promptly expelled before her first semester was over. Whitney went to a party with some of her friends and after a few drinks, she was fairly inebriated and her powers suddenly manifested. The cup in her hand suddenly exploded and ignited the alcohol. Fortunately, the sprinklers went off and no one was seriously hurt.

Whitney was exposed as a metahuman and promptly expelled. When the Academy reached out, she grabbed hold.

Skills: Distractions, high damage output
Flaws: Glass cannon with no means of enhanced mobility

Lets go for Char #2.

1. A character who adapts to any attack thrown at her, assuming it doesn't kill her instantly

2. A character who can bend space

3. A character who can bring fabrics and organic fibres and whatnot to life with minor telekinesis

4. A character who can absorb the properties of the environment around her and grow taller by replicating those materials, making her a living tower.

It's mostly focused on her hands, but she's managed to gain some control. (it tends to slip away if she gets emotional or drunk).

I think clothes would probably burn before exploding (but if she did it quickly she could use cloth like a flashbang). It might be funny if she accidentally sets her clothes on fire.

The Artisan, you know.

Name: Richard Weinkauf
Alias: Richard has gone by the name, "The Artisan"

Appearance:Richard kind of looks like this out of costume
Image

In costume, Richard is not one for a superhero outfit with spandex, a cape, colored boots, or so on. Instead, he prefers a tan trench coat, black fedora, gloves and a simple mask that covers his head and face. These have been modified in recent years, so that there also is some flexible body armor in the coat, and even some in the hat.

Gender: Male
Age: 65
Build: Average. A little tall at 6'1, Richard also weighs 220 lbs. He steadfastly begins every day with some exercise.
Sexual orientation: Straight.

Powers:
Artistic Realities - Richard's main ability is the power to make art real, by creating a "new reality" where the work of art comes to life and is able to interact with characters. This applies to classic works of "high" art that might be found in a museum, not comic art. The effect is that Richard can make what the drawing, painting, sculpture, or other portrays, to appear and the world and background they appear in. These "artistic appearances" have a boundary that separates them from the real world. He can put other characters in these new artistic realities, and what was portrayed, now becomes their new world (so these other characters can get lost, wounded, disoriented, etc). In this artistic reality, Richard can also manipulate it in some ways. (He once made a person trapped in a complicated abstract art piece suffer as if he had overdosed on PSD).
Peoplecan see the boundary that leads into the artistic reality from the outside, but cannot see any boundary or "outside" to reality if they are in this "artistic reality". If anyone crosses the boundary, they are in there too. Those inside who have technological sensors can now only scan what happens in that new "artistic reality" and not the real world. Only Richard can let people out, which happens either voluntarily, or if Richard loses concentration (these worlds exist only as long as Richard can concentrate on them, which also means he can only have one "artistic new reality" up and running at a time.) The range for these artistic realities is within Richard's sight, but Richard is more likely to use this ability in closer range to him than further away. (It is easier to concentrate).
The artistic reality is like a small pocket dimension that Richard creates and pulls local people into at will, with concentration. There is a doorway that is easily seen, that is a barrier to the real world. It's a one way trip through the door, however. People that Richard pulls in, and anyone who stumbles through the doorway, are trapped in this new pocket dimension-like type until Richard lets them out. (Richard himself would be immune to that and could leave as he wished). People can also look in the doorway and see what's going on inside it. Doorway appear at an arbitrary location, but they are usually near enough to Richard so he can concentrate better. Say within ten yards or so.

Statue Physiology - Richard can also turn himself into a living statue or sculpture. It has to be a statue that's already created, and not one from Richard's imagination. (He has to see the details). In this state, his body becomes entirely that material all the way through. So, for example, if Richard's arm were to be blasted off by a laser, it would be possible for a sculptor to re-attach his arm in that state, and for Richard to suffer minimal effects when he returned to his human form. There would still be noticeable effects, however, like a visible scar.

Artistic Teleportation - Richard is able to teleport himself, and the things he carries and wears, by art. Whatever the picture or print is, Richard can teleport to either a) the gallery that painting is in; or b) a scene very similar to that painting. The spatial limit that Richard can teleport to is within the city he is in. That means, if Richard were to use this ability by looking at a print of the Mona Lisa, he would not be able to teleport to Paris - though he might be able to teleport to a gift shop at a local gallery that had a Mona Lisa print on display. Richard needs to see the artwork to be able to teleport. Again, this only applies to "high" art of a proven pedigree, and not comic art, graffiti or even new artwork by aspiring artists.

Drawbacks and Limitations:
- Richard has no super abilities in fighting. He's a fit, older man, but very poor in almost any combat with another super person.
- Richard depends a lot on his journal. If he loses that, or finds himself away from other art he can't get the details for well, he's very powerless.
- Richard can only do one artistic reality at a time. He has to concentrate on it, which means he is exposed and vulnerable to anyone else not in his artistic reality.

Equipment:
For the limitations and uses on his powers given above, Richard carries a journal that has several prints of works of art that he finds useful for turning into new "realities." Also several prints of statues and sculptures. In addition, Richard carries a cellphone, his wallet and keys. He owns a car - a Chevy Impala. He also carries an artistic sketchbook, some pencils for drawing (different artistic varieties), a pencil sharpener, and a blotter.

Richard's trench coat is now armored, as is his fedora, thanks to an inventor friend. They are bulletproof, water proof, flame resistant, and acid resistant.
The fedora will prevent Richard from head injuries but cannot stop attacks to his face or the back of his head.

Personality: Calm. Perceptive. Logical, but in the sense of an artist's logic and not a mathematician's. A friendly neighbor, and a teacher who genuinely is interested in helping young people succeed in more than just art.

Nationality: American
Hometown: Richard has taught in three high schools, including Colorado Springs, CO and Phoenix, AZ. For a while, he also lived outside of Chadron, NE and had been moving from location to location due to the prior hostilities against mutants.

Bio:
Richard Weinkauf is a 65 year old formerly retired art teacher who has now taken teaching back up. Art is Richard's life-long passion. He went into teaching because he enjoyed it and it gave him the ability to be around art permanently. He has taught in three high schools, most recently in Phoenix. He was forced into early retirement in cost-cutting moves, and was somewhat bitter about it for a while. Richard has continued creating art throughout his life, and has had some of his works on display in small shows and museums. He is not known for his artwork by the general public, and few specialists would recognize his name, even though he remembers opportunities that might have given him his break had things turned out differently.

Richard is generally cynical of political promises, agencies and politics in general. Richard prefers to keep his head low instead of drawing attention to himself.

Richard is a widower. His wife, Mary, died decades ago in a car accident. He never remarried. Richard has an adult son, Paul, 35 years old, who he is estranged from. Richard raised Paul alone as a single father. Paul has no powers of his own, and is distrustful of super-powered people and meta-humans in general. Richard wishes that the division in their relationship was healed, but Paul remains unwilling.

Richard was 25 when his powers manifested themselves. He was showing his young son Paul some of the classic art in his books, and ended up imprisoning Paul in a painting depicting the Civil War. After he realized what had happened, he ended the artistic reality. But that set off a chain of events in Paul's life that only led him to grow ever more distrustful of his father. Richard became a vigilante after much soul searching. Tired of the violence in the city, he set out to take matters into his own artistic hands.

His desire for justice was short-lived. About the time when the CADMUS agency first began targeting mutants, a group devoted to standing up for mutants heard of Richard and sought him out. Tracking him down to Phoenix, Richard met Cypher, Paladin, and others, who convinced him to come with them for his safety. They made it to Chadron, Nebraska, and were there for a little while before the CADMUS agency attacked - partially due to Richard's fault, but no one had ever connected the dots why. When Cypher, Paladin and others he knew were asked to begin the Academy to train the next generation of powered students, they asked Richard if he wanted to resume teaching, and Richard jumped at the chance. He now teaches art, combat preparedness and justice courses.

Skills: Richard possesses an artist's eye for detail and a good memory. He has skill in several kinds of art (mostly painting, some sculpting and drawing). He is an experienced teacher. Richard is also well-versed in art history and considers himself cultured. He speaks German fluently.
Flaws: Richard's son, Paul, remains a possible enemy, though his location has been hidden from Richard for many years. Though Richard keeps up with his daily exercises, he is still an older man and thus occasionally needs time to catch his breath. Doesn't see the need for the newest and latest in technology, and so he isn't as tech-literate as his students.

Additional Info:
Theme song: Richard goes classical, impressionistic - just like some artists he likes.

RP Example (if you wanted to know. These are the old examples I gave last time, but I can get something more current if you prefer.) First example, another superhero RP.
Second example, a superhero comedy RP
Third example, a FT nation space RP

And here is my second character. This one's a new character for me, a student. But her powers are very similar to the parahuman, "Trickster" from the Worm Universe.

Name: Molly Shanahan
Alias: Jinx
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Female
Age: 18
Build: A little shorter (5'7), with short brown hair, petite.
Sexual orientation: Straight.

Powers:
Teleportation - Jinx is able to teleport pretty much anything: herself, other people, cars, hand-held items. The only problem is, there's a catch. Whatever she teleports, she has to make it so that it switches places with something near her that is roughly the same size or mass. So, if she teleports herself somewhere, she has to switch places with someone else.
Likewise, whenever Jinx teleports people, they always are facing the same direction they were. Say, she sees a friend fighting an enemy. She teleports her friend and the enemy so that they have switched spaces, but are still facing the same direction they had been. That means when she does this, her friend and the enemy are now facing away from each other, and have to turn around.

Danger Sense - What makes Jinx difficult to fight and unpredictable is her danger sense. She has an acute sense of incoming and even a little potential danger. This works not only for herself, but also extends out to other people. The closer they are to her, the easier Jinx can tell if they are going to be in danger soon.
The effect of this is that the speed that Jinx's danger sense goes off makes it possible for to tell when bullets are being fired at her, or about to be fired. And she can react to get out of the way - or teleport the danger out of the way. Mostly because of...

Enhanced Reflexes - This works in connection with Jinx's danger sense. If something is going to hurt her, Jinx has enhanced reflexes that get her out of danger. This only works when she is conscious, but it is not a conscious act. Something inside her makes her get out of the way.

Drawbacks and Limitations:
Jinx can only teleport what she sees, and can only teleport things in her visual range.
Jinx can also only teleport one thing at a time. There is no group teleportation with her.
Jinx cannot teleport buildings or anything that size.
Jinx's enhanced reflexes only work when she is conscious, and so she can suffer great harm while she is asleep, knocked out, under anesthesia, etc.

Equipment:
She has a costume, that is somewhat armored. Resistant to fire, ice, electricity, and supposedly bulletproof (but she's never tried to find out). It comes with a mask that's more cosmetic than anything practical. Other than that, she has typical things for her age - a cell phone, some books, makeup, a few pieces of jewelry, a decent upper-scale kind of wardrobe, but that's about it.

Personality:
Flirtatious, fun-loving, and a little reckless.

Nationality: Canadian
Hometown: Edmonton
Bio:
Molly Shanahan grew up having whatever she liked. The daughter of a highly sought interior decorator and a banker, she was daddy's little princess all the way. Still, she became a fun-loving individual who also liked thrills.

During her times in school, Molly took up shoplifting occasionally to see if she could do it without getting caught. Unfortunately, she was caught after taking things from a department store, and sent home in a police car. That was the first sign that things were not going to go well with Molly. Her dad got angry, her mom got furious, and yelled that she should never shoplift again.

Her next time out was a few weeks later. This time, as she was about to escape the department store, she got caught in a bad situation. Armed robbers entered the store and tried to rob it themselves. In the scuffle with the robbers, an employee tried to stop them and got shot. The man died on the floor of the store, and Molly was shaken up, having never seen a death.

For some months, Molly was in a dark place head-wise. What had tripped her up was if she could have done something, and how even though she was trying to steal from the store too, she wasn't out to commit harm. It was more of a test for herself than anything, or at least, that's how she saw it. However, unbeknownst to her, this was also the crucial time when her abilities began to blossom. She began to notice before something bad was going to happen to her or to people near her. All of a sudden, she seemed to reach out and catch objects that were bumped off counters and falling at odd angles. As for the teleportation, it was like her mind was opening to the idea of switching spots. If, she reasoned, she could have gotten the cashier at the store to move to a safe spot, he would have lived. And as she was fixated on this, her abilities blossomed so she could in fact make things switch spots.

Her parents caught on to what was going on with her. Eventually she told them everything. And they did their best to try to help her, but knowing that they were grossly under-equipped to help. Through discreet channels, Molly's parents made contact with the Academy, and after a month of conversation with each other and with Molly, they decided to send her to this place to help keep her out of trouble.

Skills: Molly learned a couple of tricks, like being able to palm objects so they can't be seen, and how to avoid metal detectors. Other than that, she can drive, is good with working with numbers and isn't terribly bad at flying by the seat of her pants and making it out okay.
Flaws: Molly is impulsive and still somewhat reckless. Her shoplifting days are mostly over, since it's not a challenge with her teleportation power. But Molly will put herself in positions sometimes where she has a chance of getting in trouble, to see if she can get out. It's something for a future team to watch out for.

Additional Info: (Optional) See above in my previous character.

3 and 4 sound really cool.

And interesting variation on Number 4 would be that she grows taller, stronger, and faster with the more calories she intakes, but they also burn her calorie count.

Talc's characters are accepted.

And this is loosely based on the previous AWH, so Richard might know Cypher and Paladin, but Prophet and Arsenal would be too young to have be persecuted by CADMUS

Name: Christian William Fischer (goes by Will)
Alias: Lusus Naturae (Freak of Nature)
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Male
Age: 18
Build: Slender
Sexual orientation: Bisexual

Powers:
Bio-manipulation: Will is capable of using excess bio-material to manipulate his own body. He can do things like increase the sturdiness of his bones, the density of his muscle mass, and make and then release mass amounts of adrenaline; or he could just turn his entire arm into some kind of grotesque claw thing. (Basically think Migi from Parasyte, except instead of just an arm he can mess with his entire body. And for those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, look at this:)
Image

Increased Life-span and Regeneration: Will's cells decay at a far slower rate than normal, increasing his life-span greatly. He can also influence his cellular functions to increase his natural healing rate.

Extra Organ: Will has an extra organ unique to him which he refers to as a "second stomach." It stores 90% of the food he eats and saves it for his powers later use. Since this food isn't being used for normal body functions, Will eats about 5-6 times more than the average adult male and still stays skinny enough for people to think he's anorexic. Will's normal stomach and digestive system are also quite abnormal, allowing him to consume nearly any organic material without worry.

Drawbacks and Limitations:
Limited Food Supply: Like I said, Will needs excess bio-material to use his powers. He becomes weaker the longer he goes without eating. He can use other parts of his body to fuel his powers when the stores in his "second stomach" are used up, but this causes severe backlash and for some reason his regeneration does not work on wounds caused by his own powers.

Hunger: Will is rarely if ever satisfied when eating and is in a near constant state of hunger that can distract him quite a bit.

Unconsciousness: In order for Will's regeneration to be fully effective he must focus on using it. Any lethal blow delivered to him while he is unconscious is liable to kill him just as much as it would an average person.

Equipment: Nothing but your average, everyday school supplies and a crap ton of granola bars.

Personality: Will is a withdrawn, quiet young man who is cautious of strangers. He often puts on an aloof attitude in an attempt to keep people away, put deep down he just wants to be accepted for who he is rather than who he's expected to be, especially if what he's expected to be is "normal." Having been used by others for his powers before, he's mindful of peer pressure and is now far more selective of who he seeks acceptance from, trying to find a more individual, personal kind of recognition with others rather than the sweeping "trying to please everyone" kind he was prone to in his youth. Despite training to be a hero, Will isn't the type of person to go out into the world seeking injustices to fix and conflicts to resolve, but at the same time if he feels something wrong is happening right in front of him he won't hesitate to act. He is also rather lazy, the nature of his powers causing most of the food he eats to be used for things other than giving him energy.

Nationality: American
Hometown: New York City (Chinatown)
Bio:
Born in New York City to immigrant parents, they were regular (non-metahuman) people who have tried their best despite Will's unique circumstances. Will spent the vast majority of his childhood knowing there was something wrong with him. No other child ate five full meals a day, could fall out of a three-story window without breaking at least one bone, or could suddenly grow a few inches when told they were too short to ride a carnival ride. They also certainly didn't turn random body parts in grotesque monstrosities of bulging muscles and throbbing veins when startled. Will grew up in the slums, often mocked as a "freak of nature" by other children. His lonely childhood has caused him to crave acceptance throughout his life, often acting out in pre-school and kindergarten in a bid to gain the attention he craves. It worked, but the attention he got was always the disciplinary kind rather than the affectionate kind he hoped for.

Past his toddler years, Will became withdrawn and put up many walls around himself. Several people had preyed on his need for acceptance and he was left hurt because of it. He still desperately craves recognition, but now he's far more selective and cautious of who he seeks it from. His parent's always tried their best, and he's grateful for that, but he feels they were more trying to "adapt" to him rather than straight out accept him for who he is. He's always felt like a burden to them and that wasn't helped by his large appetite putting a stain on their meager budget.

Dissatisfied with life, Will ran away at the tender age of 11. He very quickly fell in with the bad crowd, joining up with other "troubled youths" that he thought were better able to understand him. Essentially, he joined a gang. He spent four years a delinquent, busted numerous times for petty theft and minor assault. His fellow gang members constantly egged him on to do more and more with his powers and it wasn't until he was 15 that he realized he was just being used. He was, again, disillusioned with his place in life and ran off.

He spent another year just wandering the country, trying to get as far away from New York and his past as possible. He barely got by with odd jobs and pickpocketing. He eventually made it all the way to LA, where he found himself in the middle of a battle between local heroes and villains. Despite never thinking of himself as a hero, when the battle caused a kindergarten building to begin collapsing in on itself, Will found himself rushing in to use his powers to save children from falling rubble. The superhero team took notice of his actions and with a lot of prodding eventually managed to convince him to became a sort of unofficial team member. In return for patrolling the streets and stopping the kinds of minor crimes he himself had been committing years earlier, he got food, lodging, pointers on how to use his powers, and, finally, a sense of belonging. He took the alias Lusus Naturae, Latin for freak of nature, the very same term his peers had once used to insult him.

This continued on for about two years before Will was approached by a recruiter from Novum Saeculum Academy. While reluctant at first, overwhelming support from his newfound friends convinced to accept the invitation and he now joins the Academy anxious, yet hopeful that he might have finally found his place in life.

Skills: Years of experimentation and pointers from more experienced heroes has left him with a decent amount of control of his powers. He's far from perfect with them, mind you, but he's not exactly starting from scratch either.
Flaws: Lacks combat experience. Super lazy, mainly because most of the food he eats goes towards his powers rather than giving him energy. While he is more mindful of how his wish for acceptance can be taken advantage of, he still craves it and is not immune towards acting out in attempt to get it.

Aditional Info: Favorite food is any kind of white meat.

Name: Sam Bellamy
Alias: Eros
Appearance:
Image
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Build: 5'7"
Sexual orientation: Homosexual

Powers:
  • Manipulation by touch - Sam can control people he touches in a manner similar to subliminal hypnosis.
  • Visual paralysis - If Sam makes eye contact with a person, he is able to put them in a paralysis-like trance.
  • Mental fortification - Sam is capable of fending of telepaths from reading his mind

Drawbacks and Limitations:
  • Sam is physically very frail, and can easily be killed
  • Sam's ability to hypnotize others can only last for so long, with physical contact capable of hypnotizing people for up to 24 hours, and hypnosis by visual contact lasting up to 15 minutes unless eye contact is made again

Equipment: N/A

Personality: Sam is a very teasing individual, who loves attention and company of others. He enjoys being in the spotlight, and, frankly, likes to play matchmaker with others. He is very affectionate towards people, especially to people he's interested in. Sam does have a bit of a twisted sense of humor with a fondness for flustering people and making sexual jokes.

Nationality: American
Hometown: Las Vegas
Bio: Sam was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, not far from the hustle and bustle of the strip he lived not too far away from. It was at an early age when he first discovered his powers, but kept this a secret for a while, along with something else. On Sam's sixteenth birthday, he came out to his parents, and while his mother was rather accepting, his father was not. Over time, Sam's father became more and more distant from Sam. Eventually, to take out his frustrations, Sam used his powers to rob a grocery store. From there, it wasn't long before his powers were found out. After a brief time being sorted out, Sam returned to a relatively normal life, using his powers as little as possible. But, there were plenty of times when he'd use them for good, mostly to break up fights and such. Soon enough, he was notified of being selected to be placed in a program for young, super powered individuals, and thus, Eros, named after the Greek god, came to be.

Skills: Sam can be quite persuasive, even without his powers.
Flaws: Sam can seem rather needy and narcissistic at times.

Aditional Info: Enjoys good cooking.

And this is loosely based on the previous AWH, so Richard might know Cypher and Paladin, but Prophet and Arsenal would be too young to have be persecuted by CADMUS

K. I can change that for Richard, so he knows Cypher and Paladin. (I was drawing a blank as to the names of the others and could only go with Prophet and Arsenal).

Yeah, I was figuring that it was hands.

You ought to consider an "unstable molecule costume", which, I believe, was the rationale for how Mr. Fantastic, The Human Torch and the Invisible Girl/Woman could use their powers without becoming naked.

And, yes, accidentally setting her own clothes on fire might be funny.

So then, can Sam manipulate people that he is touching only at the moment, or is it people he has touched (and recently)?

As i understood it, he can touch people and impart instructions whilst touching them, but not have active control without contact.

Does contact have to be skin to skin?
Also, regarding the eye contact trance, does this need to be direct and will it be blocked by sunglasses?
