"There are some things out there that can't be explained nor understood by science.
And We are the ones stupid enough to try and lock them up."

In 1922 a group of individuals from all around the globe came together to discuss a matter with monumental ramifications. They were researchers, explorers, scientists, soldiers, royals, doctors, and many more of the like. At the core of their conversation were the objects we have come to call "artifacts" or "anomalies". They determined that if the world became aware of the existence of objects of supernatural power it could descend into chaos. If someone with selfish and corrupt motivations was allowed to use their unique abilities, the world would have no defense. At that meeting of 14 strangers in a small pub in London, the Institute was born. We are the continuation of the ideal created in that Pub. We chase down and lock up artifacts and anomalies, keeping the world safe from the danger they don't even know is there. We have our fair share of enemies, however, and you will have to remain vigilant at all times.

welcome to Containment! This RP is heavily inspired by the SCP Foundation and Warehouse 13. I do want to clearly state that this is NOT an SCP roleplay or set in the SCP universe. This merely takes inspiration from SCP. All of the anomalies in this RP will be original content created by me or other RPers.

For this RP you will be one of the foundation's new recruits in 2018. You don't have to be anyone special or have any special talents, but you were selected for a number of reasons including but not limited to your psychological profile, any military service, intelligence, or simply for the fact that you are normal without any illusions or grandeur or character traits that could lead to an abuse of power. Your character can, and is expected to, come from any walk of life.

About a week ago you received a strange, almost brown, envelope marked only with an inverted and bisected greek delta. Inside was a two-page letter offering you a very vaguely described job. The most of what it said was, "...entailing the locating and containing of priceless artifacts..." Despite your better judgment, there was something about the letter that you just couldn't shake. It seemed legitimate even though there were no validating points. The pay was good, better than what you were currently making, and it said a representative would arrive shortly after a business reply letter was sent to a strange address in Nebraska. You prepared the letter and put it in your mailbox; what happened next was strange to say the least...

The Institute is loosely run by a council of 14 members located around the world. It has no official ties to any form of government body, but at least one member of the council has a day job in the U.S. Government. The role of the Council members is to maintain the secrecy of the Institute, provide funding, and monitor its operations. The Identity of the members is a closely guarded secret, known only by the highest ranking agents. Day-to-day operation of the Institute is given to the Curator. Currently, that role is filled by Nathan Tucker, who has been the only active agent for the last year and a half.

Agents
Aside from the Council and special consultants, the Agents are the only "employees" of the Institute. They take orders directly from the curator and are tasked with locating, tracking down, securing, containing, sorting, archiving, and storing all artifacts and anomalies. It is a dangerous job with a high mortality rate, but the continuation of human life is highly valued by the Institute. This will be your role in this RP.

Artifacts and Anomalies
"Artifact" is strictly assigned to physical objects that possess no direct sentience. The Object must have measurable(or observable) dimensions and possess some supernatural or unexplainable physical property or reaction to external stimuli. Artifact could also apply to a physical object that contains a sentient entity.

"Anomaly" is the designation given to things that "Artifact" does not accurately apply to. Anomaly is used to describe any living biological or etherial entities, including those with sentience and sapience. It also pertains to things without measurable dimensions or effects that are tied to locations or areas.

Artifact Classification Levels
  1. Alpha- Benign. Objects that pose no direct threat to biological life and that have well documented and predictable effects and behaviors. Lowest level of Storage, no special procedures or security measures.
  2. Beta- Benign. Objects that are adequately contained to the point of not being a threat while contained. Could have dangerous effects while out of containment. Effects are mostly understood. Special procedures or security measures could be required
  3. Gamma- Dangerous. Objects that are either not adequately understood, or that have random effects, or effects that directly pose a threat to biological life. Special Procedures and Security measures are required at all times. Could require storage in more secure areas
  4. Delta- Dangerous. Gamma Class objects that pose a direct threat to human life. Must not be removed from storage without authorization by the Curator or Council. Special Procedures and Security measures are required at all times. Cannot be stored in non-secure areas.
  5. Omega- Extremely Dangerous. Omega class objects are rarely understood. They pose an extreme danger and may possess highly destructive capabilities. Should never be removed from Storage, but if it is necessary, authorization of the entire council is required. Stored in the Omega Vault or Escher Vault.
Sub-Classifications
  • Turing- Object houses a Sapient, non-corporeal entity.
  • Zosimos- Object is haunted/tethered/possessed by a supernatural, non-corporeal entity.
  • Cadmus- Object contains a corporeal entity, either sentient or Sapient.
  • Wright- Structures or buildings

Anomaly Classification Levels
Anomalies possess the same levels as artifacts, but different sub-classifications
  • Darwin- Biological entity. Either Sapient or Sentient
  • Geist- Non-corporeal Supernatural entity.
  • Locus- Area or Location with anomalous properties

  1. I am the OP and my word is final in deciding all matters.
  2. Don't metagame, it just ruins all the fun for everyone.
  3. You character was selected specifically because they were a good person, so it is unlikely that you would have ulterior motives going into this.
  4. Ther is a fairly high chance of character death if you do something stupid, or disobey protocol.
  5. This is NOT SCP, so don't expect it to be too similar.

What happened to Forged in fire?

On another Note, could we app as anomalies? (as long as they aren't OP)

I dunno, it just kind of died. My superhero RPs tend to do that...

Yes, anomaly apps are coming soon, I just have to create a standardized classification method. And being OP is a factor, it's more of how they fit into the Overall narrative. There are going to be some strange ass things out there.

Edit: Just to clarify, you can not BE an anomaly. You may perhaps be affected by one at some point, but you yourself cannot play as an anomaly.

[Name: Leiko ?Nezumi?
Age: 18.
Appearance: Leiko has black, slightly unkempt shoulder-length hair. Her eyes are dark brown, her skin tone is that of a typical Japanese person, but slightly darker due to European influences. She is 5'1 and weighs 95 pounds. She wears sunglasses and has a laid-back, almost childish disposition. I assume the Institute will provide clothing, so a description of what she wears will not be necessary. She looks much younger than she actually is [14 or 15.]
Ethnicity: Undetermined, believed to be primarily Japanese and East or South European.
Country of Residence: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Bio: Leiko was born in Vancouver, B.C and hasn't left since. Upon birth she was-raised like a normal child. However at one point in her life, presumably as a result of some kind of a traumatic event, she lost her memory and was out on the streets. Using her intellect, she managed to do quite a fine job surviving. She learned to enjoy reading and art, as her mind was always buzzing with thoughts and ideas that she didn't understand (Real life being too mundane and boring for her tastes), and after collecting a book that someone had dropped on the ground outside of a bookshop in the busy downtown, and playing with pieces of chalk left behind by a group of fellow children in the slums, she learned to express herself and understand those feelings. Perhaps before she lost her memory, she had a creative and intellectual mind. Math came naturally to her as well, her maze-like mind easily constructing equations and understanding patterns. Rather than being an urchin, a determined 'underdog' idealist or a pragmatic non-nonsense, tough-as-nails type of homeless kid, she had become a sort of philosopher, wanting to understand the "why" and "how" of her situation. Her quirkiness had made her quite well-known, though only to a local extent.

She received the letter mysteriously, finding it next to her resting spot after awaking in the morning.
Fears: She has not developed any true fears, though thats not saying that she is fearless.
Likes/Desires: A list of her likes/desires would be simplistic and would mainly consist of foods, colors, places, experiences she hasn't had, etc. Therefore it won't be included, though, and this is despite being a street rat, she values knowledge and likes to read many books [Primarily non-fiction, scientific literature and vivid fantasy.]

Special Skills: Leiko is analytical, open-minded and intelligent, quick on her feet and with no possible alternative motives nor anything to lose by joining the Institute. Due to her childishness, she saw this letter as an invitation to adventure, if not some kind of prank. Though disorganized and 'messy', shes makes up for it with her adaptability, being able to shift from one situation to another and easily adapt to whatever changes and challenges she faces. Though not strong, she knows how to fight. Leiko has a poor short-term memory, can be immature, has a hard time performing practical tasks and shows little empathy [Empathy is not to be confused with compassion.]
Current/ Most recent employment: N/A.
Additional Info: Known to have "once in a blue moon" cases of Depersonalization Disorder, or at least a similar state. Identifies as an Atheist, but harbors no discrimination. Her 'surname' is not legal, but for unknown reasons she uses it anyway. Has ADHD.
Her personality type is INTP, just in case anybody knows what that is.

Well, its obviously not even close to being done, but heres an app.

Name: Nathan Tucker
Age: 56
Appearance:
Image

Ethnicity: Caucasian
Country of Residence: U.S.A.

Bio: A mystery that you may be able to put together over the course of the RP

Fears: Vincent masks his fears rather well. He has a healthy fear of the artifacts but is rather uncomfortable around small rodents.
Likes/Desires: Is quite fond of pineapple and is always punctual.

Special Skills: Has several decades of experience with the Institute.
Current/ Most recent employment: Curator of the Institute
Additional Info: Nearly always wears a three-piece suit.

Special Tag procedures occurring
...
Successful tagging. Returning to base. Am I correct in assuming that this takes place in 1922? So a Gangster who happened to ship an Artifact to the wrong place at the right (or Wright, as a locale a la "Capone's Vault")

The Cyberiad Council wrote:Wait, so you plan on your character already possessing artifacts?

No no, heavens no! Both of them are actual buildings...of sorts. Kind of hard to put in your pocket. My character may have been in the wrong place at the right time... The other building would be one of the Institute's facilities (or rather, what a facility is built around).

OBJECT CLASSIFICATION REPORT AS DONE BY: Dr. Dancy Eria
PCS-[REDACTED]
Object Type: Artifact
Object Class: Alpha
Object Subclass(es): Cadmus, Wright
Object Description: PCS-[REDACTED] is commonly known among employees and employers as the "Devil's Vault", "the Cave of Wonders", or. For the more pop-culture inclined; "The Actual Chamber of Secrets" and "The Iron Bank". PCS-[REDACTED] was among the first Objects found by the Institute, during the investigation of Al Capone. It was during this time that the urban legend of "Capone's Vault" would begin to surface, and the Intitute half-heartedly investigated. What they found was rather, a business opportunity. Thanks to a willing gangster [NAME EXPUNGED FROM RECORDS], the Institute would be introduced to the Vault's services, and subsequently PCS-[REDACTED]-S2 (of whom will be reported on in due time).

It was here one can discern the nature and appearance of PCS-[REDACTED] and its inhabitants. Most prominently, PCS-[REDACTED]-S2-01 and 02. 01 and 02 AKA "the Teller" and "The Clerk" formally greeted the Institute and presented themselves as any ordinary bankers would, with language, and appearance varying from person to person and the time period of recording. Presently, PCS-[REDACTED] and co maintain their 1920s aesthetic, but offer modern services such as metal detectors*, snack dispensers, and free Wi-Fi. Their "clientele" range from various historical figures, and persons wanting to "keep something secure", be it physical or non (such as love or reputations), the "bankers" will be more than happy to draw up a very binding but clear cut contract.

*Despite metal detectors being a common feature today, PCS-[REDACTED] was able to pinpoint stolen items far quicker and more accurately than even the most cutting edge of technology. The evident metal detectors found in today's incarnation of PCS-[REDACTED] seem to have been added as an afterthought. A means of keeping appearances, rather than necessity.

More will come soon, assuming this is a okay so far...

Done, other than the bio.

If its too silly, or if she doesn't have the 'qualifications' [Likely the case], I have a backup character in mind. Please tell me as soon as you can, and be honest, my feelings won't be hurt.

Danceria, I finally have an app up for artifacts. I would love to see your artifact finished

feel free to create names as needed, but generally, nothing would be redacted, at least not for an anomaly like the vault.

and they wouldn't leave the building, it would be stored in the Archives like everything else. even if it is a building. (they may have the original Statue of Liberty in storage...)
