History: The Ulster Freedom Fighters are one of a number of Loyalist (pro-British) paramilitary groups that sprung up during the Troubles in resistance to the Irish Republican terrorist campaign. They aren't really their own group however, but just a name used by the Ulster Defense Association to claim attacks, so that their group isn't outlawed.
Their attacks are mainly individual targeted killings/bombings, but they also quite often do random retaliatory attacks after the Republicans do some of their own stuff. Under the guise of the UDA, they often organise protests, rallies, marches and riots, etc.
They were also in contact with official British/N. Irish forces, an MI5 report estimated in 1985 that 85% of their targeting information came from security/military forces. They were also linked to skinhead groups, and the British National Socialist Movement which was formed in 1985, and occasionally communicated with Libyan/other terrorist groups for weapons/other supplies.
