Sanity: Probably not great, Wilhelm is a man of science and therefore believes that everything must have a plausible scientific explanation. Elder Gods and other alien and unknowable beings and sights would either not phase him due to sheer disbelief or make him go insane fairly quickly
Occupation: Student at nearby Yale University
Appearance: He's about 6 ft tall with short, well-kept, red hair and wears glasses over his piercing blue eyes. He's also built like a stick figure and isn't very strong, but despite his physical weakness, he's pretty smart.
Current Items: A pocket knife and a jar of ink, as well as a wallet with $4 and a picture of his home back in Germany
Bio: An immigrant from Germany, Wilhelm came to the USA to study 3 years prior, moving away from his friends and family in Berlin. Although he is happy with the direction the Fatherland is taking, rising like a phoenix from the ashes of defeat of WW1, he is happier to be in the US because European politics are heating up again, and from the war stories his father told him Wilhelm is certain he does not want to experience them firsthand. He is currently enrolled at Yale University and is studying physics, and he is excited with all the recent breakthroughs made by scientists in the past few years.

as for how he got to room 17 im not finished yet sorry, ill do it tomorrow morning as well as finish the bio

I’ll wait for it all then before accepting.

Name: Kelsey O'Brian
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Minor or Major Character: Minor
Sanity (How much could they stand seeing things not of this earth before losing it?): "Ghosts, spirits and devils, sure, why would I be afraid? But evils that I've never seen or heard before? No fucking way!"
Occupation: Handyman of the Harper Hotel
Appearance:
Image

Current items on character: Plumbing tools and electrical tools, inclusive of but not limited to; a wrench, pipe fittings, some rolls of thin copper wires, etc.
Bio: Philly O'Brian and his wife, Jane O'Brian, both farmers, had welcomed the arrival of their 13th child on a warm Texas day; Kelsey O'Brian. All boys in the family, excluding Kelsey, had earlier died under mysterious circumstances. As such, work on the farm was delegated to Kelsey's sisters, while Kelsey played with his toys in the farmhouse. His parents were fearful that Kelsey would die as a result of working on the farm as his brothers did, and hence, prevented him from even entering the farmlands.

As a pampered child, Kelsey was envied by his sisters, whom had to slog their guts out at the farm. His pampered lifestyle obviously didn't stand well with his sisters. When Kelsey's parents died in an accident, his sisters had ganged up and made sure that Kelsey was kicked out of the family house. Kelsey, being a spoilt child, refused to accept the notion of him being kicked out, and thus physically attacked his eldest sister with a sickle.

Fearful of apprehension by the police and divine retribution, Kelsey decided to leave Texas, looking to live life elsewhere. For most of his childhood, Kelsey resorted to petty theft and begging on the streets of New York in order to survive until he was old enough to find a proper job. As a result of the crimes committed by him, his right leg was broken by a mobster whom Kelsey had failed to steal from. He now walked with a limp, and decided to bring his life elsewhere yet again, to stay out of trouble with both the law and the criminals.

Eventually, he had ended up in Connecticut, where he tried to find a proper job. Many businesses had rejected him due to his limp and his inexperience, although he had only recently come of age. Thankfully, however, Harper Hotel was in search for a replacement for its handyman, whom had mysteriously disappeared.

Name: Judy von Bismarck
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Minor or Major Character: Major
Sanity (How much could they stand seeing things not of this earth before losing it?): As a naturally curious person, Judy would tend to study objects or beings that are unfamiliar to her. She does not normally freak out, unless the object/being is deemed to be a danger to her.
Occupation: Student at the Yale University
Appearance:
Image

Current items on character: A bible, a religious necklace and $6 in her purse. Also the keys to an old beat-up Ford Model A.
Bio: Judy von Bismarck was born in the midst of World War I, in the city of Berlin. Her father, Michael von Bismarck, a professor at the University of Berlin, hurried to leave for the United States as soon as Judy was born, anxious to leave the chaos behind. The Bismarck family had landed in New York, U.S.A, in the winter of 1914. Michael and his wife had hopes for the better, for Judy to grow up normally as any other American child would.

Although Michael had landed a job at the Cornell University as a professor weeks after their arrival, not all was smooth-sailing. Both his students and colleagues were unable to understand him at times due to his thick accent. Additionally, Michael was an extremely stubborn man, often refusing to accept the opinions of other professors and insisting his right of way, even though when he knew he was wrong. As a result, Michael was eventually let go from his job after a few years. He had tried to secure jobs at different universities, but the termination from Cornell had left his resume stained. Without any other alternatives to support the family, Michael hesitantly accepted a job at a local high school as a janitor.

As the years went by and as Judy grew up, the family was struggling to make ends meet. Judy was enrolled into the same high school that her father worked at, and her father's employment was often the subject of mockery. Judy, however, did not bother much about the bullying and harassment. She excelled in her studies, all the way through high school. Her academic success had paid off, when she was offered a spot in the prestigious Yale University.

With little money to spare, she made her way to Connecticut and to an old hotel - Harper Hotel - a week before school started.

Name: Mason Richards
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Minor or Major Character: Major
Sanity( How much could they stand seeing things not of this earth before losing it?): His curiosity will allow him to accept the strange and occult, but his threshold is overall fairly low.
Occupation: Author
Appearance:
Image

Current items on character: Revolver, notebook, writing utensils, cigars, books, $100, and reading glasses.
Bio: Born before the eve of WWI to Samantha and Jason Richards in the city of New Haven, Mason knew his dad for only 4 years before the war came and took him away. Even as a young boy, Mason was reclusive and shy. He hardly had any friends and would rather spend his time alone with only his thoughts. His loneliness persisted throughout his schooling days, but during the time he spent alone, he found a great passion for writing. He wrote many short stories and novellas before the age of 18, but none were published. However, his writing eventually reached some watchful eyes and he was offered a seat at Columbia University.

Inside those hallowed halls, he honed and polished his craft. At the age of 19, he had his short story "The Seven Hills", a story about the supernatural that came to him in a dream, published. It was a commercial success and gave him fame inside many circles. Unfortunately, his next book flopped both critically and financially, leading him to disappear from the literary world for a time.

After some time to himself, he decided to travel back to his home state to devote himself to his novel. A couple of wrong train rides later, he found himself in the town of Muskeg Point. He didn't want to spend money on another train, so he decided to take a rest for the night. He went from hotel to hotel in the town, finding them all booked. All except one, Harper Hotel.

Question: is it possible for someone to already be rendered insane/a follower of the tentacle deities (albeit in a somewhat benevolent guise)?

Name: Nolan Keith
Gender: Male
Age: 39
Minor or Major Character: Major
Sanity( How much could they stand seeing things not of this earth before losing it?): Being exposed to the occult and horrible experiences in WW1 he has developed a loose grip on his sanity and is prone to fits of PTSD.
Occupation: Unemployed
Appearance:
Image

Current items on character: $30, a bag with 2 sets of clothes and working boots, dog tags, pocket knife.
Bio:
Born on October 12, 1900 to a poor salesman father and a housemaid mother Nolan grew up with an interest in the occult when his family moved to Pittsburgh for a better life and jobs for his parents. His father took on a job with a steel producing company where he ran into Alex Herman an old man that claimed to possess a book explaining everything of gods and the universe, his father intrigued introduced Alex to Norman and he became his student in the ways of the occult. One day Norman's father went insane and started mumbling impossible and crazy things and was taken to a mental institution where he died under mysterious circumstances, Alex blamed his insanity on him reading the book he owned but was told to never open.

In 1914 world war one broke out but Norman being too young could not enlist, so he worked collecting scrap and fell out of contact with Herman. When he reached the age of 17 with his mother's signature he enlisted in the American Army and was sent to the western front when in 1918 he was transferred to the Argonne forest in preparation for the coming offensive. He fought in it from September 26, to October 12 his birthday when he caught a shell fragment in the throat and was sent home being unable to speak for several years after the event.

After the war he took on several jobs as anything he could to earn money, not easy due to his inability to speak. in 1927 he suddenly regained his ability to speak and finding money became easier until the great depression hit and he resorted to wandering around picking crops at farms he could get a job at. He still lives this way and on his way around he found himself in Muskeg Point and needed a cheap place to stay when he found the Harper Hotel and was given the key to room 17.

Name:Alfred Dingham
Gender:Male
Age:25
Minor or Major Character:Major
Sanity( How much could they stand seeing things not of this earth before losing it?):Being the person that's supposedly the creative type Alfred will try to make sense of something. The problem is, seeing- Well in the lack of a better term that is, as there are monsters are quite bizarre and out of this world the more he thinks and makes sense of it the more he'd want his brain to be cracked open like and egg and die.

In short if it's Deep One it's fine, if there is something like Wilbur Whaetely's brother he'd go mad faster than a hatter.
Occupation:Penny Dreadful author.
Appearance:

Current items on character:A suitcase with a typewriter in it along with some "fresh" clothes that's mostly not stained with cockroach feces and at least twenty dollars.
Bio:

Born on June 26 1914 two days before the Great War Alfred was given birth to a journalist and a housewife and was given the basic luxury of being literate as a boy with him reading the fictional works like Frankenstein, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Robin Hood and more with the intent of becoming a writer.

As 1917 hit and his father enlisted in joining the war Alfred was able to write his first poem at the age of two(though a poorly constructed one)to his mother his path to becoming an author was set. Though the news of his father passing, blown to bits in a trench somewhere in France was given, at the time he couldn't understand the concept of death and was kept hidden, because of this he was fascinated with death ironically enough and wrote more and more short stories about the protagonist dying much to the dismay of his mother.

Growing up his mother couldn't afford school for her son and Albert was sent to work with their neighbors, giving him task in hopes that he would learn more than what he could as a substitute at school and for the most part, did. As he grew he would learn more about the world from his neighbors and would take it as pay.

At 1929 he left his small town and went to the city for work as an apprentice to an author and helped him with fixing his office, fixing paperwork and cleaning up the plates after their three square meals and learned more from him in his dream of becoming a writer until five years later, he inherited his father's old typewriter and an old suitcase and resigned from his master to go to places and places.

Some of his penny dreadfuls gained enough money to have him venture more but most of the time it ended up as a complete bust and stayed in cheap motels as his mother kept on messaging him to no avail as he cannot waste any money on stamps and only used food stamps. And the Great Depression isn't helping.

Just realized but is the Harper Hotel a flophouse?

If people are sharing a room with each other and it being cheap I would think it's a flophouse.

What OP wants: Silent-Hill Lovecraftian Horror film, with typical Cosmic Horror themes.

What OP may get: Scooby-Doo meets the Office, set in the 1930s, with the Cosmic Horror indirectly manipulating the heroes into being actual heroes, stopping cultists from summoning him. Not that said entity would want to destroy the world (but may do irreperable damage due to his presence), but mostly because he does not want to be interrupted by the sacred and incomprehensible act of "plae-ying vidya gaemz".

Speaking of, do you mind if some minds arrive pre-wrecked?
