I've attempted to start some roleplays set in the Fallout universe in the past, though by lack of others' interest, they've died out rather quickly. I believe part of it is due to a custom setting. So I'm hoping to try again with a more familiar backdrop.

Would a roleplay set in Fallout 4 be something people would be interested in? The plot and setting would mostly stay the same as Fallout 4's. However, Fallout 4's protagonist, Nate/Nora, and the introduction will be changed so that there will be multiple protagonists with connection to Nate, Nora, and Shaun. However, after the introduction passes and the protagonists leave the vault, participants will also be able to take on the role of a wastelander or robot.

Why not just have the players be people in the same area that Fallout 4 is set in? Ive seen plenty of Fallout RPs around here, some do well others don't, but the ones that do well tend to be set near areas that the games are in but don't necessarily share the same plot as the games (I saw one where it was about a group of NCR soldiers defending Hoover Dam from the Legion.) or the take a place that the lore dose not touch and make stuff up for that.

That could work. Though I've personally taken an interest in exploring and reworking the main plot of Fallout 4. And I think having the opportunity to be a vault resident on top of the already available wastelanders and the likes would be pretty neat to participants hopefully.

Anything from Krispy Kreme.

All off-topic discussion aside, who here can tell me how much effort goes into making an RP? Is it daunting the first time? I'm asking because I have a few ideas floating around in the liquid sludge that is my brain that I'm interested in bringing to fruition, however, I do want some advice for first-time OPs.

Naturally, that depends on what kind of RP you have in mind.

Some people write chapter and verse on their own original settings, or mechanical rules, or some fluff to build atmosphere, if they want these things.

On the other hand if your RP is mostly based in the real world/history or a well-established fictional setting, then you probably don’t need more than a few paragraphs to just briefly explain the premise.

I’d guesstimate I don’t put more than an hour into my most successful RP concepts, frankly. But then again mine don’t have swanky formatting and layouts like some!

Had the idea of a resource/clan management game based around the universe and mechanics of Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind. Each person takes control of a Horse, Wheel, or Ram clan in an isolated vaelley and they must build and manage their resources whilst dealing with the other clans of the valley

Can’t say I’ve ever heard of the setting, but I’m always a sucker for a good mechanics RP.

How does a character RP about just arriving on a foreign new lands just settled by a nation and try to create your wealth, glory or prestige. It would mostly be an economic based RP, but spce for military and politics.

I'm working on making a parody dystopia (partially inspired by current political trends in the world, partially a hommage to several authors of classic dystopias), but since I don't want to use one real country, but something vaguely American/European/East Asian, I wonder about names. Is it better to not mention the country name at all, or make one up? In the latter case, any ideas? Or should I just ignore the issue and make a semi-real place, like for example Notbrusselsatall?

For names, maybe put a word in a language or two (or three) through google translate and then splice the different words together.

It depends on how serious and/or comedic you want your RP to be.

Good idea, thanks!

The humour will probably be dark, and about the absurdity of the system. A bit like: “Life is a comedy to those who think, a tragedy to those who feel.” Maybe my aspirations are too high, but I'm aiming for an atmosphere similar to the novel Catch 22, but maybe with more slapstick.

And if I want a character that both thinks and feels, he or she will be both comic and tragic, and really messed up.

"I think, therefore I laugh. I feel, therefore I cry. Have you ever seen someone laugh and cry at the same time? No? Well, then sit back and watch."

Will it be like Terry Gilliam's Brazil?

Haven't seen it, but seems like a good film. From what I understand from my quick search on it, yes. Although it will be a fairly open world (at least from where I am right now in the planning stage) so if the player wants, then yes, but there will also be other ways to go.

I have an idea for all of you how about a French Revolution RP. I don't I would have the time and would be able to effectively run an RP but here's an idea for you if you want to run one.

Would anyone be interested in a character RP? It would be as if a new land had just been discovered and the end goal is to make businesses and try to control this new environment.
