There’s a site called RP Guild that I used to be somewhat active on that has pretty much 100% embraced discord and the forums themselves are nearly dead. An interest check will be posted and then everyone (even the larger group RP’s) wants to either RP on Google documents or via private messaging and then all discussion takes place in discord. The interest check itself dries up and the amount of active RP’s in the forum is near to none.

I even had to face people that wouldn’t RP with me if I didn’t offer a discord up front, or were so hyped about a concept but then instantly bailed when I would clarify “no discord”. *sigh* The age of IM’ing...

'tis like the days when IRCs first appeared, and interest drained from the forums. Unfortunately Discord is far more insidious, because it is unified and easy to use.

Quite unfortunate, because I've yet to find a site that does freeform faction-based RP quite like NationStates does... if the P2TM forum starts being murdered by Discord I'm not sure where else I'm going to get my fix. :p

As an RP journeyman I can concur that no other site offers faction/nation based RP’s like NS does.

Discord is killing character based RP as well so there's that too. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people have fully taken their RP off site because they're not interested in getting anyone else involved. It's really quite depressing.

Thank you for this commending Layers is an experimental RP so we'll see how it goes. 'The Island' went really well so I believe this one will as well. We'll see if the post apoc mike sticks or not.

Formally we don't have a server. The Mentors as a body maintain one, but it is essentially dead. We mainly use it to sass each other.

Would anyone be interested in a roleplay heavily inspired by the Masks RPG? Masks is an RPG based around the Powered By the Apocalypse system. It's almost like a comical slice of life game set in a world where superpowers are very common. Players are put in the position of metahuman highschoolers and must battle fiendish supervillains and teenage angst in their adventures. However, for my variation of this RPG, metahumans would be wildly uncommon - perhaps even unknown largely to most of the world. Players would be metahuman teenagers who try to fight crime and the occasional metahuman whilst also doing everything they can to conceal their identity from sinister forces that would gladly abuse such knowledge.

Perhaps I can even do a variation of that idea and swap out superpowers for magic. The players could be part of a wizard/witch's coven and use their magic to repel dark magic whilst also protecting themselves from an anti-magic populous who deems wizardry taboo.

Also, I apologies if this is inappropriate to ask for a Portal to the Multiverse roleplay, but would it be more ideal to host these roleplays on Discord but retain an OOC thread in the forums? I've noticed that, since many NS-ers tend to be very involved on discord, it might be best for faster-paced, more active roleplays.

Detailed Description: Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is just days away from release. And, because I am an unapologetic opportunist, I intend to ride the coming wave of Norse fanboyism and release an RP based on my favorite piece of ancient literature: Beowulf. Set in 6th century Denmark during the waning days of the Migration Era, players will take on the role of warrior-thegns in the court of King Hrothgar. Having led a victorious war against the Lombardic Heaðobards, Hrothgar commissioned the construction of a glorious mead hall: Heorot. After months of strenuous work, the hall has been completed, and the good King Hrothgar has called for a grand celebration. But, as readers of Beowulf already know, the celebration is to be short-lived...for a darkness lurks in the cold moors beyond Heorot. And the darkness is hungry.

Beowulf is one of my favorite stories, especially due to its unique (yet often times awkward) balancing of Christian and pagan themes. But I absolutely despise the hero archetype, which is perfectly embodied by the story's eponymous protagonist. To me, he always seemed an unrealistic knight in shining armor -- a Dark Age equivalent of Superman. This roleplay's take on Beowulf will disregard the he-man BS that characterized the poem (and most of its film adaptations) in favor of gritty realism. As warrior-thegns of Hrothgar's court, players will struggle to survive not only the bloodlust of the demon Grendel, but also the ambitions of mortal man. This is a time of crisis; navigating the political hellscape of Heorot will be no easy task. You are an accomplished warrior and a lord of Hrothgar's realm. Will you use this unprecedented threat to expand your own power and settle personal scores, or will you band together with your fellow thegns and defend your king against the evils that would shatter his kingdom? The choice is up to you. But be warned that all choices have consequences.

Honestly we just need more variety of RPs in general. For a couple years now most active RPs have seemed more or less the same conceptually. Super hero RP, medieval fantasy RP, godmod fest nation RP.

Great to hear! To be honest, I could use some help with world-building and drafting up some NPC characters.
