Well...we don't actually know. Just sort of happened one day.
Is it a reunited Yugoslavia in the 21st century? Is a rebel colony world in the far future? Is it a race of cyborg neo-life at war with any assimilating organisms they come across in the far far future? Who knows, who cares?
New Yugoslavia just is.

Nothing wrong with a good ol’ continental invasion premise. My only caution would be to build a scenario in which the players can easily believe that an invasion of the US would not only be possible, but preferable for the foreign powers to say, launching nukes and calling it a day. And certainly consider having some kind of interval strife in the US contributing to their overall lack of effective defense.

That is, if your intended tone is serious or realistic. If it’s meant to be something more absurd or whacky, then it doesn’t really matter :p

One possible idea is a Fortress America premise. The United States develops a completely effective missile defence system and a terrified coalition consisting of most of the world promptly invades to stop it from being deployed and preserve nuclear peace and the balance of power.

Nuclear weapons do not get used because first, the objective of the invading powers is not to destroy the United States, and second, because nuclear attack really would be the final straw and the Americans can retaliate with their own...

That’s a good starting point. My only question would be why the US doesn’t threaten to use the nuclear option to deter the coalition’s invasion in the first place?

Push comes to shove, the United States in this scenario also considers, not unreasonably, the risk of being defeated and occupied to be more acceptable than the risk of getting most of its population burned up in nuclear fire. Both sides are playing a very, very dangerous game, diplomatically speaking...

In the end, though, a foreign invasion of the Continental United States in this day and age is such an inherently unrealistic scenario that in order to make it happen, the scenario needs to have a clink somewhere. In this case that clink would be the United States being cautious and conservative as to using its final retaliatory measures.

That’s close enough that some suspension of disbelief on the part of players wouldn’t be too much to ask. Would like to see what the OP comes up with for such a thread, if only because exploring an American character fighting an unlikely guerrilla war sounds like a fun one to write.

Here is what I think has happened. Since NATO is a frustrating design for most nations in it, it will be dissolved. then the only allies close to the US would be UK, japan and Canada. During this, North Korea invades South Korea and China invades Taiwan. The world is in a tense stage. After both countries conquered their enemies, They are in the position japan was in WW2. If they continue to expand, the angered US will declare war. So they use strategic nukes to take out the US Nuke stock and satellites. The troops then invades with china and NK in the west, Cuba and Venezuela in the south and Iran from the east. Israel is attacked by he middle east, India by China and Pakistan. The UK would be tormented from the terrorist attacks. So the Coasts of US is conquered but resistance groups are fighting.

RP INTEREST AND FEEDBACK REQUEST
Please provide as much detail as possible.
RP's Overarching Concept: Inspired by HBO's Watchmen and Brandon Sanderson's Reckoners Trilogy, a post-apocalyptic superhero roleplay set in the year 2045.
Genre/s: Superhero, Science-fiction, dystopian
Character or Faction Based: A blend of both with emphasis on characters.
Detailed Description:
It's been twenty-five years since the world was changed forever.

In 2020, astronomers in Hawaii observed an anomaly--a new star. Other agencies from around the world soon corroborated the Hawaii Report; a bright object had suddenly appeared in the night sky. And it was moving towards Earth.

Later that year, as the star grew closer and grew so large it appeared nearly the size of the Moon, astronomers in Russia made another, deeply disconcerting observation: there was a darker shape within the light. A humanoid shape.

The world flew into frenzy at this bizarre development, with Star-Man cults springing up around the globe. The music of David Bowie experienced a massive resurgence, and worldwide militaries mobilized, ready to fight to the death to defend their homeworld.

Nobody was prepared for him. For Sidereum.

He landed in England, and declared that he had come to Earth in order to save it, in order to empower the human race to reach out into the stars. With a snap of his fingers, he released an incredible surge of energy across the planet, lighting up the entire sky. He then took a human child in his arms, and vanished into the sky, leaving the night as black as it should be.

That was when the Supers began appearing, across the world, newborn babies and wizened elders alike developing incredible powers and abilities. Some could lift aircraft carriers. Some could twist the minds of others. Some could turn into animals or fire lasers from their eyes.

The world was thrown into immediate chaos. Some Supers used their power for altruistic reasons, helping others and benefiting the world. Others sought to protect and preserve their nations. However, others sought power, carving their own territories out of a world powerless to stop them. Some attached themselves like leeches to the more powerful, serving their interests. And still others used their powers for no purpose other than to cause pain to the world.

The world has been shattered. The great powers no longer exist, or have been greatly diminished. Shadowy factions and godlike Supers squabble over inches of land and scraps of influence. And meanwhile, a new threat is rising, an ancient threat that can destroy the world.

Where will you stand? What will you choose?

The UK would be tormented from the terrorist attacks. So the Coasts of US is conquered but resistance groups are fighting.

Couple of issues that will require massive rewrites of history. For one, China would need to make a vast fleet that could withstand the attrition imposed by US attack subs. Additionally, the nuclear submarines would all have to be taken out. Most people forget, the US has a massive stockpile of hidden nukes everywhere around the world, generally sitting in VLS tubes and in times of high stress, ready to be deployed at a moments notice with one word from the President. That system has so much redundancy built in that even just cutting off satellite communications won't do anything other than alert the submarine it probably needs to strike its predesignated targets.

Then, this massive troop fleet would have to also survive constant attacks via the US Air Force, the US Naval Air Arm, and the United States Marine Corps Air Arm. All until they get close enough to the coasts to bring in the USCGS and the US Army and it's attack helicopter fleets. All this while avoiding return fire from US reactivated Nuclear stockpiles and activated silos that were in hiding, nevermind it all being orchestrated by a system that was designed to crack the planet with nukes back in the 70's. Once you get to within a couple hundred miles of the American coast, the mobile missile batteries will start showing up and begin bombarding your landing force, followed closely by the mobile artillery systems once your beginning the individual landings and then finally you'll be facing the losses of an opposed amphibious landing the likes of which would dwarf every amphibious landing during WW2 put together.

Also, you'd see an uptick in older materials being brought back online since your fastest troop transports would take around two weeks, ample time to rush out a bunch of training for homegrown militias and reactivated veterans of which in the current day there are millions. 18.8 million veterans by a quick internet search are around right now, which is 7.6% of the US population and that's out of the reserves if I read the numbers right. Again, doesn't even count informal state defense forces, militias, and hobbyists. Then, the US also has 300 million gun owners, the majority of which own the weapon for protection of property, closely followed by recreational target shooting, and then finally for hunting.

So, you need to put a lot of rewrites in. For one, China would need to be an imminent naval threat to the US. Same with Venezuela (so they never had an oil crash) and Cuba (never effected by US trade embargoes in spite of US weaponization of global economy). The US would need to have enacted stricter gun control regulations and have de-armed about 80% of its population and be strictly controlled and regulated by a central line of communications where a loss would cause a breakdown in organization. It would also have to be hit internally so probably done by homegrown 'red' or terrorist groups. China could probably do this well by instigating homegrown insurrections and insurgencies through a massive misinformation campaign which creates a civil war scenario in the US. Divide the House so-to-speak.

It’s also worth considering in your rethinking of the historical context — why NATO is disbanded other than “some nations are frustrated by the structure,” especially if the opposition is so able to launch an attack on the mainland US and its allies.

Maybe there were large social upheavals in the countries, leading to them adopting an ideology or outlook that would be opposed to the existence of NATO or just working with the other members in general. Not all of them need to have a change in governing, but just enough for their to so few members left that it wouldn't be worth maintaining the alliance.

Building up Warsaw Pact and making a Wargame situation might work better. Keep the NATO partnership in constant flux and make it do a bunch of controversial stuff, like overtly support Afghani's in the Soviet conquest, have Israel drop a nuke somewhere and then have the US cover for them really poorly. Make Egypt and Libya potential conquests and let Israel keep its land gains to make American relations with other local states really stretched. Turkey would never join NATO in that environment and a Chinese equivalent to NATO would be devastating if American black ops such as evacuating the Philippine dictator became commonplace. Basically an Ocean-wide Vietnam war takes place with America furiously trying to deny China territory by being more controlling and dictatorial.

I like the concept. Dark. Creative. Unique. I would probably join.

Well that actually makes me feel very good.

Also, it isn't unique--half my RP ideas over the past 7 years have been "derp but POST APOCALYPTIC"
My pronouns are they/them
