It’s been a very long time since I have posted but think outbreak has brought me back to this site. My ideas are still pretty bouncy but I was thinking would anyone be down for a Lovecraftian horror RP? I was playing a lot of Arkham horror at one point and I am kinda getting ideas from that. If anyone is interested in some brainstorming for it just tell me.

I wanna make an RP where a group of friends are reading this hot new book that came out, but then the book slowly starts coming to life and the book world slowly but surely starts seeping into the real world. To stop it, the friends have to go inside the book (becoming various book characters in the process) and help the book's heroes defeat the big bad evil guy before he escapes and takes over the world. Turns out that the book's author is some ancient and powerful Lovecraftian alien entity and BBEG is their avatar...who uses these books as a way to take over worlds, and eventually they want to conquer the whole galaxy...Earth is their next stop. I'll need help with brainstorming and fleshing out, but first I want to gauge interest.

I have a bit of a random, but interesting idea for a comedy/slice of life RP, based on pretty much the latest Wes Anderson movie that's supposed to come out. In other words, it's running a news publication based on the Onion.

The concept is basically having both the OP (as editor in-chief) and a bunch of accepted characters run their own newspaper/magazine on the typical, the illogical, the eccentric, and the overall ridiculous. Characters get to pretty much world build by writing stories of events or bits of info happening in a typical 21st century setting. While it's not meant to be well over-the-top in terms of comedy like some RPs, the tone is supposed to be humorous, depending on how our characters in the IC behave and the stories that they write. Characters are also allowed to post not just news stories, but essays, commentary, fiction, reviews, poetry, and other literary stuff to make the issue of a publication interesting.

I think the RP would have benefited from a more fictionalized scenario as the use of factions and politics that are very close to home has the potential to generate drama among the players. Certainly anything political does but I think having it a bit further in the future may mitigate the potential of conversations regarding current politics on the OOC. The use of internet voting is certainly something I find worthy of indicating the near future aspect of the RP. Though to go back to my previous point you can learn a lot from the Dystopian Science Fiction of the 1990s and 2000s in regards to how one goes about this without it collapsing.

RP's Overarching Concept: Players take a role as a member of the Doctor's Guild, a society of doctors founded to combat the plague that's been sweeping through the country.
Genre/s: Historical/Sanfbox-ish
Character or Faction Based: A little of both but I would say mainly faction.
Detailed Description: This RP will follow you as you attempt to research and find a cure for the plague, go around treating patients, and other such things. You're either an apprentice, master doctor or anything in between...and you decide what you want to get out of your association with the guild. Truly helping people and saving your city? Want to make some easy money off of the desperate ill? A spy planted into the guild to destroy it from the inside? Or maybe you're a serial killer who just wants to use this as an opportunity to uplift your body count, let's make it interesting.

Alright. I think I'll have it so that some party shift has occured. I'm trying to not deviate too much in political ideology from mainstream politics, but I'll have it so that the Republicans and Democrats have had a few moves from their current position IRL, along with a few intra-party factions to act as influencer groups with one candidate each in the primaries, so that the political parties that we know today are effectively reduced to being mass coalitions of different factions rather than being a coherent political party

Detailed Description: It is the time of the Galactic War between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic... but it is alternate time with lore that can be changed by the characters. You can play as a sith general, republic senator and others. Now the RP is in what I believe to be its very early phase/

Need Help With: General help in forming the RP.

Detailed Description:

It's 30 years after the Human Civil War, and the Solar System is a tattered mess of remnants and survivors from the nuclear fires involved. Earth has been blasted across it's eastern hemisphere, reduced to smoldering, steaming craters while the debris cloud threaten to wipe out all remaining life. Mars has lost most of its terraforming infrastructure and mass food and water shortages run rampant across its frontier territories. Across the Jovian territories, stretching from the asteroid belt to Uranus, dozens of drifter colonies exist in a state of total disarray, their fuel running low and most supply lines beginning to dwindle to a mere trickle as mining rigs fail production quotas. At the outer edges of the Solar system, the few settlers that had tried to make their way among the remnants of the star system's formation now find years worth of production setbacks occurring from the sudden disruption of vital medicine and technology supply lines that would have helped jumpstart the development of new colonies.

Not all is lost, however. Venus' orbital colonies still remain, though they are sorely lacking in the way of industry, they can remain self-sustaining for some time. Luna exists as a bastion for those who managed to evacuate off-world before the Martian attacks. Mars has begun to discover vast warehouses beneath its surface of pre-war supplies and technology while the Jovian moons and the colonies adrift among the gas giants are on the verge of creating their first functioning fusion pulse drives, a revolution which could cut down travel core-bound by half.

Welcome to the First Iteration of the Solar Multi-Faction Creation Kit, or SMFCK. Now, I know you want to laugh at the name, so feel free, but try not to do so if you see the boss. He gets sensitive about that sort of thing.

Every faction runs off of ten basic attributes that are tracked by the SMFCK Association:

Organization	Organization is the number of actions a Faction can make in a Solar Quarter
Manpower	Manpower is needed to use Faction assets.
Supply	Supply is the number of a resource produced in surplus for a Solar Quarter.
Fleet	Fleet is the number of ships controlled by a faction.
Fuel	Fuel is the distance a ship can reliably travel in AU for a Solar Quarter.
Research	Research is the number of Solar Quarters reduced from a new technology being discovered.
Infrastructure	Infrastructure is required to expand Faction territory.
Industry	Industry is required to harvest/refine new resources.
Education	Education is required to implement or create specific technologies and units.
Loyalty	Loyalty is required to maintain coherency in a faction and avoid rebellion, insurrection, and instability.

When creating your faction, you can begin in one of several starting locations, each corresponding to a fragment of Humanity left over from the Human Civil War:

Venus	Factions beginning here receive +1 Organization
Luna	Factions beginning here receive +1 Fleet
Mars	Factions beginning here receive +1 Supply
Jovian Moons	Factions beginning here receive +1 Fuel
System Pioneers	Factions beginning here receive +1 Manpower

All factions begin at 1 in every attribute. Factions have ten development points to spend during their creation process. To increase the level of a attribute, you must spend the number of points equivalent to the next available desired level (so no buying a level 10 research off the bat, the furthest you could get is level 4 in a single attribute for creation: 2+3+4=9). There is no attribute cap.

Need Help With:
Coming up with mechanics and systems to regulate player action and inaction. I want the game to be equally rewarding for active players as it is for inactive players. Quality would affect the outcome and everything would operate on a pip system with specific actions or keywords creating potential opportunities. I, as the OP, would pose as various NPC's and traders, from your humble water merchants to the mighty shipyard foreman and everything in-between. Think of the setting as Post-Apocalyptic on a Solar scale and you've got the general idea. There would be no FTL, so movement would be incredibly limited by fuel expenditures and resources that you have, players could lose it all by making the wrong gamble, or receive stupendous payouts if they manage to succeed.

This all sounds loverly - though I would caution against this part particularly. Burnout is real for OP-heavy RPGs, and many a delightful setting has foundered on the back of the OP coming under too heavy of a load.

I've found that it's helpful to have a few designated people to do it. In my 2024 roleplay, we have four people (players of China, India, Mexico, and EAF) to represent all NPC nations. It's been fairly successful thus far, could always give something like that a try.
