That's fine Harb. How's your RP going?

Which one? The one I am co-oping is growing well.

That's good to hear.

I do have an idea that's in the works. A spinoff idea of a failed Mafia style game I had on here. More full on sci-fi drama then the previous one.

I am currently on draft 2 and working to give each faction (it's a character RP where players have to enroll a character in one of the three factions) a perspective regarding the past, present, and future of an underground city established after a war brought about by the discovery of another terrestrial species. RP still has the social situation of the Mafia style game I had tried to host but now focused on that social situation- allowing for a full sci-fi action-drama to unfold.

The Administration: Governing the City
=
In a time before we lived in the city, we walked upon the surface. There was green, a great light from above gave us warmth and joy- water fell gently from the sky and we built houses that reached the heavens. Little did we know that watching, waiting, and planning our downfall was another race- the Lizards. As we expanded, our number grew- so to did it become easier for them to live among us- to rise to leadership and instigate our doom. The world began to warm, the green began to turn brown, and tensions between us began to reach to a peak of war. Then, an unexpected event threatened their plans- one accidental reveal of a massive scale alerted the world to their presence. But the Lizards where clever- as world leaders began to grow suspicious of each other, and those in thier own governments- as coups started- the world became ablaze in war. Our ancestors survived that upheaval, many of us where gathered - corralled in 'sanctuaries' for 'reeducation' but all that awaited was death. With in those we organized, we arranged and acted upon our chance of escape and fled. The founders knew that to run in the open upon the surface would threaten us to be continually hunted and by chance we came upon the city while seeking shelter in caves. It was old, abandoned. Many of us wondered if it was safe but given the chance of a life here in safety or of death above we set our roots here- far from any satellite, any power grid of the surface- away from those who would hunt us. Now a generation seeks to return to the surface. They feel alienated and our work continues.

The City is governed by way of a Commission where upon individuals are elected as commissioners over specific aspects of the city. These commissioners serve one year terms with unlimited times they can be elected. They form a council that elects the city's Chairman. The commission as a whole serves as legislator and executive with the Chairman speaking on behalf of the commission following a vote of action.

The Administration was established with in the first three decades of the 'decent' into the abandoned city. In the days before the Administration the city was divided along ties of association with the threat of tribalism being high. Realizing that the potential continuation of Humanity, the survival of the species, depended on the residents having access to utilities at the time controlled by various associations the founders of the Administration set about uniting the city under one government. In the years following the unity the city experienced a peaceful stability focused on claiming desired portions of the abandoned city and learning all that could be learned about the Lizards that once inhabited it.

The Administration has a Commissioner of Public Works, Police Commissioner, and Sanitation Commissioner. One of which is serving as Chairperson of the city's government. The three together have legislative and executive powers.

  • Currently the city is working on a major public works project- 'Smith's Bridge' which will cross a great casam to claim a largely unexplored area of the city that, long before Human habitation and likely the cause the city's abandonment, split from the rest during a seismic event. Completion of the bridge will make travel to that part of the city easier and open new structures for habitation. The bridge is named after 'Adam Smith' who crossed the casam through dangerous means 87 years ago, in the process discovering the city's other half.
  • The city is currently faced with a fungile infestation of it's hydroponics which provide food to the population. This has created what is projected to be a one month shortage on vegetation for consumption.
  • The city operates a rather free economy though there is a high demand to create a public healthcare system.
  • The city does have a public education system thanks to past Commissions.
  • There is a growing concern that the city has been infiltrated by Lizards. This prospect has become a kind of boogieman in the community- what seems to have started as a joke, grew into an urban legend, and is now becoming a serious matter. Two cases are to take place this year regarding accusations of espionage on behalf of the surface.

RISE: To Leave the City

(NOTE: RISE is a rebel movement consisting of people wanting to return to the surface. It's the third faction player characters may align with. RISE aims to return to the surface no matter the cost- even if it means destroying the city to force the move. While Administration serves the role of normal people, and the Hidden Scales can be considered a Mafia the organization known as RISE acts as a terrorist/rebel faction that endangers both as both the Hidden Scales and Administration have reasons to fear a return to the surface.)

[spoiler]Thousands of years ago our ancestors ruled the planet, until the Age of Ice. Abandoned our cities we did to the warmth of Earth's embrace, and we waited. Generations waited and passed for the chance to return to the tropical green and crystal water of above. When temperatures reached tolerable levels we found that another race had taken our place- Humans. Observing them we saw they where beings who would not accept us, we saw that where we to reveal ourselves we'd all be killed. Thus began the plan of integration, for years we set in motion making Humans a more tolerable, docile, people who could accept us upon this world but Humans are stubborn. Our world was by them coming to the brink of self destruction. We tried to bring a unity to the planet, a single government under which Humanity would be more manageable but they remained tribal- territorial- and belligerent. After a disaster revealed us in mass our leaders began to see the situation falling apart. The tension took on new tones as accusations where cast upon each other and us- and war came. The deaths, there total is unknown to us but where many, and we began to gather those who survived to build a better society. But our leadership changed, what was meant to be re-education became culling centers aimed at weeding out the problematic traits of Humanity. But our forefathers could not standby- many of these people they had grown up along side- many of them where friends and the measure was to them drastic. Using their alias our forefathers provided information key to an exodus from those centers and guided by suggestion and purposeful misunderstanding Humans to this abandoned city. But we knew after the war, after all that had happened- we could not reveal ourselves. So we remain living in secret as we had for years- but now accusations are being made again and I worry. I worry for what the future holds.

The Lizards of the City are descended from those who helped the ancestors of the City's Humans escape the sanctuaries long ago. They have maintained a policy of secrecy about what they are and have dedicated themselves to the plan of gradual integration. The Hidden Scales consist of many families with representatives meeting in secret regularly to discuss matters of their own security and ways to influence the administration or obtain Commission.

With in the Hidden Scales are three high positions; Nestkeeper, Matchmaker, and Formshaper.

The Nestkeeper holds a relationship to the children of the families that can be considered akin to Godfather among Humans. If anything happens to their parents the Nestkeeper is responsible for seeing to it that the children are cared for. Over the many years in the city Nestkeeper has become a position that holds a lot of weight being the de facto leader of the Hidden Scales.

Matchmaker is a position that is most active in the Hidden Scales. The Matchmaker is responsible for keeping track of hatchings, deaths, and genology while operating a dating service for the Hidden Scales in order to pair Lizards with other Lizards while carefully keeping the population viable. No one wants to get on poor terms with the Matchmaker.

The Formshaper is responsible for managing the production of Shesuus for the entire Hidden Scales population. Shesuu means Sleeve in the Lizard language and refers to a fleshy biological suit that allows the Lizards to pass themselves off as Humans. This production has to be kept hidden and requires careful front operations to conceal.

  • Currently the majority are worried that public healthcare will make it harder to keep the secret going, and are pushing resistance to it.
  • Additionally some of the youth are becoming associated with counter culture that seeks to return to the surface. The Hidden Scales believe that, as their forefathers feared, those in the city will be punished for the actions the ancestors took.
  • The growing accusations could if not ended lead to the community being revealed.

I have some questions. While I wouldn't disclosure what kind of RP that just popped in my mind, I would like to know what people would like for a certain part of the setting. The overall setting is going to take place in an theme park with different themed "lands". What kind of themed lands would people like in this theme park? Some overall suggestions, though I would like to hear what some would think. There's a superhero land, fantasy land, galaxy land, prehistoric land, western land, pirate land, sultan land, fuedal land, horror land, desert (or Eygptian) land, adventure (or temple) land, action land, war land, aqua land, future land, candy (or kiddie) land, garden land, sky land, winter land, and a summer land.

I don't want to spoiler what kind of RP I'm doing, but I would still like to know what people would like in this theme park I'm making.

RPs I do
- How do you do fellow kids? You want to see something violent? - Artemis: Deimos Trafficking League (Horror/Mature)
- Descend into the forgotten tourist traps of Florida on this transgressive RP! - The Community (Mature/Black Comedy/Slice-of-Life)

My overall account that I use for P2TM and even for international roleplaying! MNM is a mysterious and extremely dangerous dictatorship filled with supernatural oddities, demons, militarized soldiers everywhere, and a misanthropic nihilistic dictator who doesn't give a damn. It's basically if the SCP Foundation got mixed with 1984.

Could Future land be something like EPCOT? That could help differentiate if from galaxy land. Unless you just want to have rides and booths over like disney parks style attractions

Future land can be a mixture of Tomorrowland and actual Epcot.

What do you usually think of incorporating your NS nation to P2TM RP's like, say, having a Hogwarts student from Diarcesia in a Harry Potter RP?

=
RISE: To Leave the City
=
(NOTE: RISE is a rebel movement consisting of people wanting to return to the surface. It's the third faction player characters may align with. RISE aims to return to the surface no matter the cost- even if it means destroying the city to force the move. While Administration serves the role of normal people, and the Hidden Scales can be considered a Mafia the organization known as RISE acts as a terrorist/rebel faction that endangers both as both the Hidden Scales and Administration have reasons to fear a return to the surface.)

Hidden Scales: The Nest in the Earth
=

That looks really good. I can't see any issues with it.

Thanks :) I just added 'Commissioner of Education' to the Administration positions. It dawned on me that without an external government the city needs someone over such.

Yeah, that makes sense.

I made this strawpoll based on an earlier question I have. Feel free to vote on the poll.

RPs I do
- How do you do fellow kids?

Hey, just wondering. Are Pokemon RPs relatively popular on NS when the show up?
Yugoslavia's back baby...

How the hell did this happen?
Well...we don't actually know. Sure, there's factbooks and stuff, but they don't really matter because the owner of this account is a lazy, unproductive, indecisive loser who may or may not have a thing for half human hybrids, big mechs and even bigger ships.
Is it a reunited Yugoslavia in the 21st century? Is a rebel colony world in the far future? Who knows, who cares?
New Yugoslavia just is.

I'm not sure, but I know that when I launched Companio (which was a kind of Digimon-Pokemon-Esgue RP) it caught on. It even had a sequel so I imagine a Pokemon RP would do well. I wouldn't say they get overwhelming enrollment but rather that they get a suitable amount- a bit like Pokemon it's self- a small party of characters and that's perfect.

I was however in a Pokemon RP some time back that had quite a few players- open world in a city. It didn't focus on a group traveling around so much as scattered lives. That has a good sized cast to it though characters only associated in small groups of 2 to 3. I think their where perhaps 8 players involved in that one.

Umm, what I'm about to say might be a bit...weird.

Here goes...

Could a Pokemon RP surrounding the concept of human-Pokemon hybrids being used for warfare or spec ops purposes work?

I'd propose instead doing what was done with Companio- having such an RP not pokemon but incorporating elements of the setting. The closest thing in Pokemon to what has been proposed regarding warfare is the Great War mentioned in the old games. If I recall a pokemon saved on the trainers during that war but it remains the only mention of war in the series. So creating your own world that incorporates elements of Pokemon into it but has an environment conductive to such hybridization and war is what I suggest as something that would catch on.

>When you decide to consider that possibility but then you get a bit too deep into your mind and are now not sure if you wanted to use pokemorphs because you actually thought it could be interesting, you're just lazy or you maybe have a fetish or something so then you just go sod it and ask...

"Hey, remember that one time in the old series of Doctor Who where there were those grey daleks who didn't like the crippled old guy who made them and the white and gold daleks who did like said crippled old guy because he was their emperor and had a glorified race war throughout time and space because some of them were cyborgs and some weren't?
What about an RP about that?"

Translation from idiotese: Dalek civil war RP...maybe...possibly...

Possible, I mean... you'd have to really think Dalek to write it. I'm a Tom Baker fan and thus most of what I know of the Daleks is from that era of the show. I do know a bit of the David Tennet years (a friend an I would watch it) so I've seen mor. I don't think I'd be of much help but I do think it's possible to pull of.

RP INTEREST AND FEEDBACK REQUEST
Please provide as much detail as possible.
RP's Overarching Concept: Sort of like a faction-based RP of guilds / merchant families based in a fictional map of a medieval city and surrounding countryside. OP-led events will allow for dynamic change of events.
Genre/s: Medieval, history, sandbox
Character or Faction Based: Faction
Detailed Description: XXX - a thriving, independent city-state - has no shortage of powerful merchant families. Led by a stagnant prince who has almost entirely resigned his power to a council of these families, be one of these families. What are your goals? Be a virtuous family and provide for the needy? Seize the power of the city to manipulate it to your desire? Simply make some income to get by? All is possible - unless the other families don't want it to happen.

Need Help With: Fleshing out the description, potential things to add, and if this is possible or not.

Please leave this hashtag in place: #Mentorhelp

Short Description: Welcome to (CITY), a thriving microstate upon the coast of (REGION). Ships come and go from the port. Where once ruled a monarch he now rules only in name. The Patrician houses, and guilds hold the power here- one of which you lead. This is a state where ties of family mean nearly as much as coin. Who you work for, where you stand - all determined by such. Some court the Church, others the heart, the mind, and pockets of the city. Your family has had a long history of navigating this ecosystem. Generations have bribed, patroned, and campaigned- and now as leader of your house, like the captain of a merchant man, you must steer the future. Will you lead your house to become the icons of piety in the city? Will you see routes expand bring new goods to the port, or perhaps your ambitions lie in the governing council- to perhaps remove the last visage of the prince's power- or invigorate new life to the throne? Perhaps you heart burns with a desire for battle upon distant shores- to see the territory of the city grow providing new land for your house to hold? The choice is yours, Patrician.
