History :
In the days of the First Republic of Texas, the United States was unwilling to allow another Slave holding state in it's fold. Despite the Republic of Texas's begging, prostating itself before the United States of America, it's larger Eastern Neighbor would not budge. Now there was one hope, one dangerous mistress who toyed with the idea of allowing Texas into it's fold. That would be the British Empire, or the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Originally the hinting at the fact Texas might join the British Empire was only to make the Americans wary of having their cousins across the pond get another holding in North America. However, at this point, it became a viable option. Rule by Mexico City, or Rule by London? Rule by Austin would be preferable, but the economics of the Republic deteriorated at every possible turn. Soon, at the doors of societal collapse, the Republic of Texas was annexed, making it the officially part of the British Empire in the year 1854. Slavery was abolished, though the institution had fallen into decline with the economics of the Republic as they were. This enraged the Mexican Government, however the Mexican government was also in debt to the British Government. That didn't stop tensions from rising, until war broke out. The American Civil war that is.
When the American Civil war broke out, it left room for a more aggressive British foreign policy. It started over a border dispute over what was classified as Texan lands, which escalated to full blow warfare. Soon came more troops, and the infamous Royal Navy leading to an eventual British Victory over Mexico, expanding the British lands there, taken formerly unsettled lands by Mexico. This ended up being a lot of Northern Mexico, all given to the British Colony of Texas, who was over joyed at this expansion of it's land. Then came the Gold Rush(Mexico didn't find it) which brought even more people west, and immigrants to the colony. As Texas continued it's development, it soon became one of the more respectable settlements of the Empire. In the year 1889 it became a Commonwealth, giving Texas some of it's independence back. This being the case, Texas was more than ready for the new challenges. Austin bringing back Texans to it's now Parliament, and Presidency, it was glorious. The Commonwealth of Texas beganwhoring itself out lots of trade, following the steps of Australia and the United States in that regard. It was also considered one of the fastest developing places in the Empire, Oil only exploding that fact when it was discovered. This also lead to the rise of big corporations, Steel Monopolies, Oil, etc. Industrialization came to Texas, and so did lots of people from Europe. It had land, it has jobs, it had "Freedom". What else could you want? Cities like Galveston, Houston(Amplified by oil) Fort Worth, Dallas, and Austin got big fast. Then there were cities in the west, San Francisco, Sanguine(Los Vegas), Los Angeles, and more.
The 20th century gave rise to threats to the Empire, namely WW1. When the war broke out, the Commonwealth of Texas dutifully declared war on Germany. Now, Texas was more free spirited, and more sense of self than other commonwealth. The Texans, sons of the defenders of the Alamo, went in as Texans, not Loyal Sons of Great Britain. That being said, Texan forces distinguished themselves time and time again on the battlefields of Europe. Meanwhile Texas was beginning production of greater proportions for the British war machine.
