President Erdogan stepped up to the podium in his press briefing room, in front of a contingent of various state owned news outlets, and a few closely monitored independent regional reporters.
This was the first formal appearance he had made since announcing another wave of arrests four months ago against a series of opposition politicians, and ‘pro-democracy’ activists.
However, it was clear that the address today was not about internal matters, because of the group of army generals stood behind the President, having just met with him. Erdogan was clearly about to talk of foreign matters now.
He began talking; the journalists quickly turned their dictaphones one, and the TV cameras focused on the podium,
”The Senior military leadership has just convened in the Presidential complex today, and for the past several hours, we have been discussing an appropriate strategy to take against the pressing threat posed by the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the Russian Federation.
Since the fallout of the Arab Spring, both nations have been seeking to make political gains in the Middle East, sewing discord into the region and threatening the prospect of nations rebuilding themselves and continuing to live in relative peace.
A Cold War has descended upon the Middle East, and nations are steadily joining the two camps that divide it. Proxy wars fought in Yemen, Syria, Iraq and, to some extent, Afghanistan, have allowed the Russians and Iranians to flex their muscles, and test the resolve of their opposition. And admittedly, we have failed to stand up to these aggressive impulses of an Axis of Evil. And that gives them every reason to believe that they have the ability to continue to spread their tentacles of influence deeper into the Middle East.
We can only wait to see what move they take next, what new nation they choose to divide and control.
Or, we can take a new approach.
We have been mocked and laughed at for too long by them, as we continue to say that we will stop them, but fail to act. We have happily stood by, whilst they keep the regime of Assad in power in Syria. The Assad regime are, undoubtedly, fascists to every degree. Not just in their calculated brutality, but their belief that they are superior to every one of us here. And we cannot stand for their crimes against us, nor their crimes against the repressed people of Syria, who suffer under the yoke, the cruel yoke, of a despotic, illegitimate regime.
The senior military leadership have decided that today we bring and end to our silent bystanding, our walking by on the other side of the road.
The Iranians and the Russians and the Syrians continue to abuse the international laws that enshrine the rights of their citizens, and the rights of other countries citizens.
The Iranians have begun to build a fake façade around themselves, appealing to the UN and west to lift sanctions, and let them ‘co-operate peacefully’. If the west fails to see through this façade, and agrees to Iran’s appeals, then the Islamic Republic will only resume it’s clandestine development of weapons of mass destruction, and it will only escalate its involvement and responsibility in exacerbating conflicts in the Middle East.
They are openly attempting to increase their military capabilities, as GHORB has begun cooperating with the Russians to purchase new updated weaponry and military hardware, for carrying out their destructive intentions.
Meanwhile, the Russians go further, by inviting Iran and Syria to join the evil alliance of CSTO. The memory of the Cold War is being rejuvenated, as Russia attempts to make political gains, building up its military bloc, slowly creating puppet states all around it. One by one, nations fall to the quasi-unstoppable spread of Russia, both in Europe and in Asia,
So now it is time for us to step up, and stop it. Turkey is positioned right in the middle of all this. We have the greatest ability to oppose the imperialist endeavours that happen all around us. As such, the senior military leadership has created a plan of military action, which is being implemented as we speak.
A naval blockade is amalgamating around the Syrian Coast. 12 frigates and corvettes, a destroyer, our sole aircraft carrier, and a number of submarines shall prevent any vessel from entering or exiting the ports of Latakia and Tartous. This shall put heavy pressure on the Assad regime, whilst our military decide further appropriate action to take against that regime. The blockade should also prevent any Russian naval vessels going to bases in Syria, thus reducing their military influence in Syria, and minimising their flow of supplies into the nation.
We shall stop the Russians seeking gains via the sea.
And we shall stop the Iranians seeking gains by air.
If any Iranian aircraft 50 km of Turkish territory, it shall be shot down without hesitation, no matter what it’s purpose is. Turkish airspace shall now be closed to any Russian or Iranian aircraft.
I have written letters to the two nations, demanding that they withdraw their support of the Assad regime, if they wish for our blockade to be withdrawn. However, we expect that they will not rescind their dangerous support for a dangerous dictator, and as such, we expect the situation will escalate. For that reason, our military is preparing for any possible action that needs to be taken against CSTO or the ADR.
Economically, our nation shall suspend all trading with CSTO and ADR nations. This could be a blow to Turkey initially, but eventually we will accommodate for the changes, and we shall find other markets to trade with. The less money that flows into and out of these nations, the better.
I have also written to CESDOT Headquarters in Brussels, to which we are fully committed. I have requested that they, rather than lift sanctions, increase sanctions on Russia, Syria and Iran, and they join us in our strong opposition against this axis.
Turkey shall lead the west in the fight against the spread of tyrannical Imperialism from the east. To preserve peace and prosperity in the Middle East, and indeed in the rest of the world, CESDOT need to support us, and need to oppose these threats with us.
Thank you, my military generals will now go into more details about the actions we have taken.”
The cameras followed him off stage, and several journlaists began applauding as he left the room, and a general took his place to talk military details.
To - Common European Security and Defense Organization Treaty , Brussels From - The Republic of Turkey RE: Opposition towards Iran and Russia To all nations of CESDOT, The Republic of Turkey has increased its stance against the threatening alliances of CSTO and the ADR of Syria and Iran, and urges Europe not to lift sanctions against Iran and Russia. Following the address by President Erdogan, the Turkish Navy and airforce is conducting operations to prevent Russian vessels getting to and from Syria and to prevent most Iranian aircraft arriving in Syria. We have also suspended all trading with CSTO and ADR nations, and we recommend that CESDOT does so too. We cannot comply to Iran’s appeals for co-operation with the west, as they will only try to deceive us, and resume developments of nuclear weapons. Russia and Iran have no intention to stop their dangerous activities in the Middle East, and their support for the terrible Assad regime. We urge you to follow Turkey’s lead, and take a firm stance against their aggressions, both economically and militarily. Mustafa Pasha , Representative of Turkey to CESDOT |
To - Governments of Russia and Iran From - The Republic of Turkey RE: Opposition towards Iran and Russia To the government of Russia and Iran, The Republic of Turkey has begun military operations to decrease the influence of your two nations in the Middle East. From here on, a blockade shall prevent vessels ships arriving at the Syrian Coast, minimising Russian supplies entering the nation. At the same time, we shall not permit any Iranian aircraft to fly within 50 km of Turkey, or it will be shot down. Our airspace is now closed to both of your nations. Similarly, trading between CSTO and the ADR shall be suspended, and Turkey will oppose any attempts by Iran to appeal to the west for co-operation. If you wish for these tensions to subside, then you must immediately withdraw support for the Assad regime, and stop attempting to make political gains in the Middle East. However, I expect you will both fail to comply with my requests, and continue on your disastrous route. As such, I warn you that Turkey is prepared to escalate the situation to stop both of your actions, no matter what the cost is. Reccip Tayip Erdogan , President of Turkey |
