Nationstates Name - Fascist Republic of Bermuda
Nation Name - Syrian Arab Republic

Capital - Damascus
Type of Government - Unitary dominant-party semi-presidential republic
Head of State(s) - Bashar Al-Assad
Image of Leader - President Al-Assad
Party in Power - Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party – Syria Region
Executive Title - President
Religion Breakdown - 87% Islam, 10% Christianity, 3% Druzism
Flag - Flag
National Anthem - Humat ad-Diyar (Guardians of the Homeland)

Public Goals - Rebuild Syria, ensure Syrian territorial integrity, maintain the alliance with Iran
Private Goals - Destroy the influence of Saudi Arabia, ensure a strong Russo-Syrian relationship and potentially military alliance, eradicate the influence of radical religious elements in the Syrian government, keep Bashar Al-Assad in power, spread Ba’athist ideals, détente with Israel

Total military size - 200,000
Breakdown of ground sector -
  • 4,750 combat tanks
  • 5,000 armored fighting vehicles
  • 500 self-propelled artillery pieces
  • 2,500 towed artillery pieces
  • 700 rocket projectors
Breakdown of naval sector -
  • 2 frigates
  • 9 missile boats
  • 14 patrol boats
  • 7 minesweepers
  • 3 landing ships
Breakdown of airforce sector -
  • 200 fighter aircraft
  • 250 attack aircraft
  • 140 transport aircraft
  • 70 trainer aircraft
  • 250 total helicopters
  • 50 attack helicopters
Major foreign military suppliers- Russian Federation
Extra military information - The Syrian Arab Armed Forces are disorganized and took heavy losses in the Syrian Civil War. However, the Army and Air Force have a large amount of remarkably modern equipment provided by Russia in the last phase of the Civil War. Interestingly, a number of all-female volunteer units are still present in the Army, a legacy of the Civil War, kept around largely due to the shortage of manpower. The SAAF maintains an arsenal of chemical weapons, with old research programs in biological warfare in cooperation with Russia. Syria does not possess any nuclear weapons, but it does have a nuclear reactor outside of the city of Al-Qusayr.

Currency - Syrian pound (SYP)
Currency and value of currency compared to USD - 515 SYP for US$1
Major import/export partners -
Import Partners: Turkey, China, South Korea, Russia
Export Partners: Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, India, and Turkey

Major Domestic Issues - Devastation of the Civil War, military and government disorganization, remnant radical Sunni terrorists
Major Foreign Issues - Israeli occupation of the Golan Heights, the alliance with Iran, the Kurdish holdings, Saudi Arabian interference, the relationship with Russia

History - The 11-year Syrian Civil War devastated the nation. Hundreds of thousands were killed, millions were displaced. The Syrian Government won a country of rubble, and now they had to rebuild it. However, Syria has many enemies, which meant that it must to capitalize on the friendships it does have. Relations with Iran, already high due to cooperation during the Civil War, were finally formalized with the forming of the Axis of Resistance to counter the influence of Saudi Arabia, who had funded (and, it has been alleged, continues to fund) radical Sunni insurgents against the Syrian government. The Kurds maintain sovereignty over a part of Syrian land, unofficially let go during the Civil War to give the Syrian Government one less enemy to fight. Israel, as always, remains a large specter on the horizon. Syria struggles to regain its footing even two years after the end of the Civil War. However, reconstruction efforts are moving along decently well, and the final stubborn pockets of resistance are growing fewer and fewer. It would seem Syria is finally looking up, even if it will be a long road to prosperity.[/box]

[b]History: 2019. saw another election victory for Trudeau and his Liberal party. However, the way NATO broke down and tensions with both Russia and conservative USA government were troublesome for Trudeau administration. His decision to support Scottish independence referendum and involve himself in Middle East on the side of Kurdish state further damaged his popularity. In the 2023. election he won by narrow majority and had to form coalition government with the NDP. The first year of the new government was marked with renewed debates about the status of Quebec and relations with the UK conservative government. The popularity of socialists and the presence of social democrats in the government had forced Trudeau to make some concession regarding expansion of welfare state and to legalize marijuana.

Emphasis is placed upon government support and the Constitution, which uses the military as a means to break apart ethnic violence and heal the wounds of war. Nice application, but History and Party in Power are still empty.

It's work in progress, had to run and grab a bite to eat. Shall be done in the next few hours.

I was wondering, once I write up the history, can I enter the IC in the middle of a proposed referendum as the DR Congo and the Republic of the Congo seek to reach a unification agreement? The basis will be explained in the history, but basically, stability, economic growth, and intense media campaigns originating from the DRC prompts open dialogue to unite Kinasha and Brazzaville. Infrastructure projects uniting the countries electrical grids and transport networks further emphasized the unification direction, so it's not very far from a reality.

I would have to say sadly no, I can allow you to have already started unification campaigns, but I cannot allow you to start off in the middle of the referendum. As of now Kinshasa and Brazzaville do not have a proper bridge connecting the two cities, so their connection is actually rather limited. This is also prompted by RC worries that political turmoil from the DRC would be able to spread easily to the RC if further connections as made. So you will have to try and convince me that it would be beneficial for the RC to join the DRC whilst in the IC. Sorry, but yeah, I just think it would be a bit too much to have you start off with a unification referendum.

Italy's one of the one which does have a decent bit of Anti-EU sentiment, but it's only 34% in favor of leaving, so it'll be difficult. And either way, the Confederation is just a loose idea. How I would accomplish it, I haven't the faintest.

I shall toss untold amounts of Ragu soaked tortellini to soil your German plots!!!!

Italy's one of the one which does have a decent bit of Anti-EU sentiment, but it's only 34% in favor of leaving, so it'll be difficult. And either way, the Confederation is just a loose idea. How I would accomplish it, I haven't the faintest.

Oh yes, I'm quite aware of Italy's situation. Also, since the UK isn't part of the EU anymore, there are really only 3 major powers in the Union: Germany, France, and Italy......

I'm quite curious to see how our three nations, who are the core of Europe, will interact.
