I think he means in terms of mechanics, for example as Indonesia I wouldn't be able to do something like exterminate all the Muslims or nuke Moscow

It still applies though. If you read the OP fully, you'd see that all of the events that happened and countries that formed did so under realistic circumstances. "After both war torn nations are weakened, Kurdistan successfully declares independence" is realistic, but then there's "ASEAN, made up of competing countries with a variety of different ethnic groups, cultures, religions, and differing governments, unifies".

A unified ASEAN is both unrealistic and unfit for this RP. To sum it up, there are no new nations allowed unless you RP a rebellion, or diplomatically unify with other countries to form a new nation. ASEAN would not be possible under either.

The U.S. government treated North Korea as a rogue state, while North Korea redoubled its efforts to acquire nuclear weapons to avoid the fate of Iraq.

On 17 December 2011, the supreme leader of North Korea Kim Jong-il died from a heart attack. His youngest son Kim Jong-un was announced as his successor. Try to find someone who is part of the leading party you are going for, and try to have a good reason for the party that is in power to be in power in your history unless it is already the leading party currently.

History [MUST LINE UP WITH HISTORY IN "STATUS" SECTION, NOT SET IN STONE AND MUST BE APPROVED BY OPs, WRITE IT LIKE IT'S GOING IN THE "STATUS" SECTION - Once the Dutch East Indies, Indonesia was once the jewel of the Dutch Empire, known for having a massive reserve of various spices and natural resources. After gaining independence from the Dutch Empire in 1949, Indonesia has proven itself to be a formidable nation. With a massive industry and population, a formidable army and large economy, the young South-East Asian Republic has proved itself to be a force not easily dismissed. However, there are many problems that plagued the nation after its birth, with her first president, Soekarno, seeking dreams of grandeur. And Suharto, her second president, who would become military dictator for over 30 years, gradually weakening the country to enrich his own family. After the New Order Era, Indonesia would continue to struggle as her government continued to become more and more corrupt, and her economy starting to become unstable. However, all of that would change upon the presidency of Joko Widodo.

The first president of Indonesia not to come from a military or aristocratic background, but in fact a humble village background, Widodo soon officialised himself as a humble and caring president, one who actually listened to the people and attempted to fix the country that he had lived in. From 2014-2018, Indonesia started to see progress not seen for many years. New infrastructure projects brought people out of unemployment, improved welfare and education proved effective in starting to take care of the masses. Even the long corruption that inhabited the country like a parasite, though still holding strong, was starting to loosen its grip. All seemed to go well until mid-2019. As the Islamic State finally capitulated in the Middle East, a series of terrorist attacks would occur across the country, predominantly in Jakarta. Not only that, but armed militants could be seen attacking government buildings alongside traitors. Notable buildings like the Ritz Carlton Airlangga Apartment, Ciputra Shopping Mall, and the Jakarta Intercultural School would be bombed. This would be known as the "Krisis Jakarta" (Jakarta Crisis) and the "Revolusi Mei" (May Revolution), where Radical Islamic State groups in Indonesia, supported by Islamic State survivors who escaped the Middle East, would attempt to launch a coup to establish a "Kekhalifahan Baru" (New Caliphate) in Indonesia in an attempt to revive the terrorist movement.

What was most notable was not the concentrated terrorist attacks, but also how it showed how deep corruption ran in Indonesia. You see, there were several ministries and organisations in the Indonesian Government that, when the attack occurred, either did not attempt anything to try and stop the damage or Terrorists, and some whose members even openly joined the attackers. For example, upon the explosions occurring, some of the firefighter groups in Jakarta did not immediately respond to the fires caused by explosions, having been bribed by the Radicals. There were also units of police that not only let the radicals through checkpoints but also joined them, paid like common mercenaries rather than actual police. The "revolution" would last for over a week, with perhaps the only reliable government forces being the military, who had taken it upon themselves to restore order: sending in troops to pacify cities and using their resources to take the places of government groups who had failed to do their jobs. During that period, 512 civilians, 126 Military and 67 Government personnel would be killed, with around 1,000 wounded. The radicals would suffer 378 being killed, with around 700 being captured. Despite the loss of life, the actual collateral damage was smaller than anticipated, as the radicals did not use many explosives except for the initial aforementioned targets, clearly looking to cause as little structural and infrastructure damage so to more easily control the country when they had planned to succeed.

Though his general governmental and moral stance did not change much, Joko Widodo was quite affected by the event which, further recommended by the military, convinced him to declare a nation-wide martial law of the country, as the military started to fill the cities and governmental structures. During this time, there would be a heavy beat down on corruption, as hundreds of government officials were arrested by the military, some for conspiring with the radicals, others for corruption alone. Several of the more higher ranking and notable collaborating and corrupted officials would be publically executed for treason in what would be known by Western Powers as the 'Widodo Purges,' despite the fact Widodo had little to do with the actual processing and execution of the officials, all of that mainly being carried out by the military. Eventually, the purges would pass, and martial law lifted, however, military influence in government significantly increased as Widodo saw them as some of the only reliable forces during the attempted coup. With that, Widodo swore to make Indonesia stronger so to avoid such an event happening again.

He would replace many of these positions with more publically reliable officials (many of them coming from his own camp) and would start many new public projects to repair the damage and compensate the dead, with most of the Indonesian population united by the attack. Many of the radical Islamist groups in Indonesia lost much of their support overnight, and would quickly dissolve as they faded into insignificance. The economy would start to get better, as taxation started to be further reinforced and illegal trade deals would be much more looked closely at, with more secretive elements of the police and military starting to look behind the scenes as more were arrested. Widodo would also pass many environmental acts to try and reverse the effects of poaching and deforestation in the past. A year after the attack, Indonesia was able to more or less recover. Several years later, Indonesia once again started to thrive as, still united, the nation stepped forward to try and come out better. Now however, as the attack started to fade from the minds of the public, radical islamist and corrupt elements have started to take shape once more, encountering much more difficulty as state security increased significantly, personal freedom no longer becoming as important.

Now with a nation coming out of a disaster stronger then ever before, Indonesia looks to new horizons, and to new challenges.

Accepted, barring anyone else seeing a problem.

Also looks good, accepted! Going to be interesting how you impact the Indo-Pacific region, especially since things seem to be heating up there.
